We went on a Sunday and they were having a Halloween celebration so it was super busy upstairs. I loved the old school mall atmosphere and variety of options. We stopped at a perfume stand (where my friend gets all her perfumes) and the stand owner was very kind and helped us choose the scent we were looking for. We also checked out the food court and probably got the best chips and salsas and pupusas I've ever had and the a western wear/boot store. The boots were high quality and sourced from Mexico which was super cool! Next time I go definitely want to explore more. read more

Come to Apollo Restaurant & Bar Come it's in the hood ... but the place is so romantic wish I had someone who I can share it with. It's very nice and they play great bachata music. There service is great beautiful woman who are nice and attentive. Recommend highly. read more

Happy Mexican and Elsalvadorian Independence Day! I am from Japan, but I live in a Hispanic Neighborhood. It made me feel like eating their food instead of sushi! I know the mall become a hangout spot for Hispanics. I went there. I just want to make sure the food court is located on the second floor. There was a wide range of choices. I picked up pupusas from El Salvador and tacos from Mexico. They were great! Many years ago, this mall was notoriously famous for being a high crime area. This place is honestly 2.5 stars. I do rank this place higher simply because for a mall it's doing something I've rarely see. It doesn't have any major stores besides a Burlington but it also has its own little flea market area too but I don't like that this place has at least 10 barbershops. The mall does need more diversity of shops but overall, not a bad place. read more

This was the old Sharpstown mall that I used to go to as a kid and learned how to drive in the parking lot. Haven't really shopped in this place in many years, but ended up driving by the area tonight and saw some fireworks with the kids. They do have a restaurant as part of this mall I've visited a few years ago that was good and had some live bands and dancing. Not sure if it's still there...if you are here late, make sure you're aware of your surroundings. I'm comfortable with the area but that's cuz I consider it home. Other people think it's a high crime area. But hey, crime happens everywhere. Don't leave stuff in your car in case of break ins. My car...has nothing of value...maybe some diapers for the baby? Come on, people. It is what it is. PlazAmericas Mall isn't gonna get any better. I waited few years to write a review because I want to see the progress. To me, I looked at the photos I took 3 years ago. It has improved the cleanliness, security and a sense of family-friendly environment. Considering it as a building with air conditioning, I use this mall as a place to gain my daily steps. I walked a "loop" (wrapping around exterior of each store) in 15 minutes. Estimated a half-mile starting from the southeast entrance. There isn't another perfect day in Houston, doesn't matter what weather condition is outside. It's always comfortable in the mall. At the end of my walk, I stop at Thirsty's to replenish my thirst or go upstairs Food Court to refuel my energy. Then, I walk to the massage chair for a 30-minute relaxation for just $5. As you read other reviewers said about the jewelry vendors. Yes, they're a little aggressive with people pass by. That's the nature of business. They are near the entryway by Melrose Family Fashion, right by Houston Jewelry Center entrance. The food court upstairs is filled with Hispanic food choices. A giant playhouse on the other side of stage is your children's place to be. The bathroom is cleaner than Hong Kong City Mall, believe or not. If you want to beef about a particular business in the mall, write a review on its biz page. My only gripe about this mall is the rough parking lot. The surface is the original as it was built many decades ago. The stripes are faded. To avoid damages to your car, just park far away from other cars. They got plenty of parking spaces. You hear about discrimination and racism but you never hope it happens to you. You would think that people now are more educated about racism but not with Manns Wholesale Jewelry. I walked in this small jewelry area called Manns Wholesale with two tiny dogs in a buggy which had a top so the dogs were zipped in. These particular dogs are for people that have allergies. I paid over 3500.00 for each. When I came in I was yelled at by a lady named Reyna who said she was allergic to dogs, I tried to explain since they were totally closed up and she had a mask on it wouldn't be a problem but she continued to scream for me to take the dogs out of the store even though she went into a room and closed the door but to avoid any problems I did what they asked but that wasn't good enough they wanted to take the dogs completely down the hall which in this case I could barely see them. The son of Mr. Mann kept yelling telling me to move them further and further away, which I did and kept looking down the hall to make sure that no one would take them. Now since I did what they asked you would think everything would be ok but that wasn't the case. As I stood there with two customers in the store both of them being taken care of, 4 Mexican girls who were employees and one man stood there just looking at me. Not one person asked if they could help me. As I was standing there and maybe 10 minutes passed 4 Mexican men came in and walked right by me into the store and Mr. Manns son jumped up literally ran to them shaking each one of their hands and proceeded to show them bracelets all the time I was standing g there waiting for just one employee to help me but it didn't happen. As I stood there I thought why am I standing and being treated with totally disregard from uneducated and ignorant people because I was white and perhaps they felt I didn't belong there because that's exactly how they treated me. I finally left and went somewhere else to purchase my bracelet where I was treated like anyone should be treated especially when your a paying a customer. So if your white and you want to be discriminated against and know that racism is alive and well go to Manns Wholesale Jewelers we're they cater to only Mexican people you as a white person won't be waited on. read more

I grew up in the area and the last time I came here it was called Sharpstown Mall. It's not the same as I remember it. I remember guys passing out mixtapes, which have blown up since. Guys used to spray paint shirts and would have their tattoo place set up. I guess I'm just disappointed because it's changed so much. The only reason why I came in was cuz hubby wanted to come check it out. Idk if I'll come back. It's just not the same anymore!! "What's in a name?" PlazAmericas? Plaza Americas? Americas Plaza development near downtown seems to think a lawsuit is in the name, because some people get confused looking for one or the other. Meanwhile, the signs out front say "PlazAmericas" The mall, formerly Sharpstown Center for decades, was renovated for about $10 million with a focus towards Latino customers; hence, the name of the Plaza. It is not at all what I envisioned after reading the Chronicle article announcing the project. It turned out to be (so far) a nice clean mall with a number of brand name stores, aimed primarily at low-budget folks. Knowing the reputation of the former mall, these investors have security beefed-up. The center of the mall has a security center with many camera monitoring stations, as well as security guards on the beat. I did not see any suspicious or worrisome characters (including the guards), and felt safe the times I have been here. El Marcado, a store with booth-businesses will open in January 2011. Hopefully, this will be much cleaner and less hassle than New Market in Kolkata. Parking at the entrance on Bellaire is not easy. The mall was practically empty, but the parking spaces are taken near the entrance. I conclude the employees are parking where the customers should be parking. Music in the mall was very good and cheerful pop-Latin, without being overbearing. I enjoyed my strolls through the renovated mall and recommend it, at least during the week. From the vendors I talked to, I understand the weekend is apparently more crowded, but not overly so. read more

Wow wow wow this mall falls in the category with Almeda Mall. I am not sure if Almeda is better than this mall or not. My mum and I were looking for the old Sharpstown Mall and we found this mall--as we walked in for what it seemed like a flea market we were lost thinking this was the mall.. in fact the flea market is just inside of the mall. The super uniform store is here--to the very back. The uniform store DOESN'T have A/C--but they do have a giant fan in the front of the store. They have all kinds, different color uniforms for medical field or for the kids. It was a lot of security here too. I will come back just to see if it cheaper here or to walk around. read more

They have a good variety of sneaker stores, but I personally wouldn't come here to actually shop or to shop for clothes specifically. But hey, could be your cup of tea. Most of the merchandise here is junk. You'll find lots of toys, fake name brand stuff, car stereos, tons of jewelry and some clothes stores. There are also a few furniture stores. It looks like 50% of the shops are either empty or closed. The best thing here is going to be the food and snacks. There are Latin restaurants and snack shops spread around. Its kind of like a indoor flea market. A hybrid mall. I got a depressing vibe from the place. Not many people, sellers standing around bored. The Gamexpress business located in this mall is the MOST unprofessional I've ever dealt with. Was given a price quote and paid in full $70 at the store to repair the hard dive and update the software for a PS4 slim. Picked up the PS4 and got home only to be told by the owner of the PS4, a 15 year old by the way, that someone from the store is contacting them for $79 more for the service that was already paid for. A male and female from the Gamexpress called and texted the owner of the PS4 continuously. Even to the point the employees wanted the money cash app. When the owner and employees of Gamexpress was told no to given more money, this was the text message sent to the phone number belonging to a 15 year old. It's unbelievable that a business would talk and try to ripe off a 15 year old in this way. Truly sad. read more

About cells and jewels airlink. Shop M106. The person there is a CHEAT and a LIAR!! DONT BUY FROM HERE!!. So I randomly went to this shop as I wanted to buy a cell mounting device. I asked the price and he said 25. In the previous shop it was 15 so I tried to bargain. He said 20 but then I told about previous shop and he said OK. After that I gave my card and he charged me 21.65 without confirming the price. I asked him to cancel the transaction and he said he can't. I tried calling his manager, but that person never picked up. I really doubt that he gave me the right number. He told me his name was Mohammed Khan but I doubt that too. Fucking asshole!!!! I visited this place about 3 times over the past 5 years. When the movie theatre was available I went more often. Since the name change to PlazAmericas it does not appeal to me other than phone repair or phone accessories. You can park near Mercado entrance and walk straight through to cell repair on the right. Across the highway from the highway is where I tend to go for a bite to eat like Salata. The parking here is extremely tight and recommend you parking further away if you don't want to get dinged. My only beef is the Spanish vendors who try to sell to me. Yeah , I speak Spanish but I'm not interested in your products. The mall has jewelry, shoes, salons where I see most shoppers go. It's a shame they don't try to improve it towards people who will spend instead of those who don't do it. I concur on others dress down to avoid pushy vendors. The Spanish laundry and Hispanic market should relocate, change dress code, invite more trendy store vendors. If you look at demographics, there is variety of people that live in the area. Some are Asian, Indian, college students, young couples, entrepreneurs, and my group who tends to shop online. Perform a marketing survey next time. This is one of the main reasons we are relocating because of the culturally restricted shopping options. read more

It's as bad as it looks from the outside. It's like a mall that used to be a mall (I assume it did) with regular stores, but they all left for greener pastures (or bankruptcy) and instead of shuttering the mall, they just rented out all of the spaces to bootlegged operations selling puppies, grillz, trinkets and....Foot Locker. Foot Locker remains, have no fear! Easily the worst mall I've ever been to. The only reason I was over here was because my boyfriend had an eye doc appointment across the street and I needed to kill an hour. It is anchored (if you can call it that) by a low grade Burlington Coat Factory, wherein I found a lovely scarf, but not much else. The bleakest of black Fridays exists at Plaz Americas Mall. Anyone who's from Houston knows about the legend of Sharpstown Mall, and whether or not the name gets changed a million times it will ALWAYS be Sharpstown Mall in my eyes. I remember a friend from Austin who visited me a while back and asked me to take him to Sharpstown Mall because he heard a lot about it. Haha! Obviously the new renovation was catered to attract the Hispanic demographic, and you will quickly find that out when you walk through flea-market style cubicles in the "mercado" area. But not the cool type of flea markets.... just the over-priced imports from China and Mexico. Other than that small change, it's still the same 'ol Sharpstown. I have to say that the only reason why I think they haven't tore it down is because the shoe stores make lots of profit. The shoe stores here make a killing off the release of new Jordans, and often time you'll see long lines during that time. I have always come and always hated due to the fact that it attract way to much Mexican culture not that is a nothing wrong with that I myself am Hispanic but don't enjoy this stores (just not my taste ) I enjoy more stores like Zara , American apparel , forever 21 and express etc. What I do enjoy about this mall/flea market is the flea marked food court they have some delicious popusas and this drink called MORRO Is based on seeds and the taste is a little bit eccentric but good The mall food court is ok but mostly I go for the popusas and for the people that are mistaking this place for a flea market well this whole building has like 4 section the mall the flea market a washateria and a grocerie store which I think is more for Latinos than American influence people read more

You know how every town has that one ratchet mall? Well if you ask me, this mall is just that and some. First of all it's like a flea market to be real with you. Its so tacky that as you're trying to walk around to go to the little stores the people working at the booths are trying to ask you if you want your nose pierced. Like um whettt o.O if it's not your nose it's other body parts. So ratchet!! Anyways my friend and I came in here to look around and try to find something to wear since it was 5 o'clock traffic and any other mall would've been hell to try and get to. How you know this place is like a flea market because there are NO real mall stores. Everything is low budget. I would say avoid this place but if you want a quick find outfit and do not care if it messes up after the first wash, then by all means go here. This place is a graveyard. Its pretty sad when a mall's ONLY anchor store is a run down Burlington's Coat Factory. Out of pure curiosity, I dropped by today for the first time since they switched over from the Sharpstown name. This was the mall I always went to with the family when I was a kid and it was pretty sad to see how dilapidated it was now. I hate to be so blunt, but this place is for Gypsies to sell things to Mexicans who let their kids run everywhere. The only thing here that might be worth going for is the typical mall shoes stores (Journeys, Champs, Footaction). Everything else is pretty shady and lame. Short walk around the mall and I noticed some G-Shock watches in one of those counters/glass shelves store/vendor whatever you call it. They had a kid running the place. Checked out the watches they had on top of the counter and was uninterested; was about to walk away when the kid running the stand said, "Hey wanna see more watches?". To be polite, I said sure. He walked me over to another stand at the opposite side and pulled out a couple G-Shocks from under the counter. Looked at them for a second and knew they were knockoffs (quality seemed shoddy and a sticker on the back said Made in China; I have a bunch of G-Shocks and always checking out the G-Shock game...never had a genuine G-Shock with a Made in China sticker on the back). Made the Yao Ming "eff that" face and walk outta there. PlazAmericas? Never ever again. So out in the parking lot, this gypsy lady came up to me and told me she worked at a wholesale and would sell me some cologne out of her trunk. No thanks. Tear that mall down and make it a Wal-Mart. Ghetto fabulous! If you took three regular sized flea markets and smooshed them into an abandoned mall you would get this terrific space. We went on a Saturday, and there was decent parking. Inside there must have bern 20+ places to buy gold chains, 4+ quinencera dress shops, and 3 separate performers simultaneously in different parts of the mall entertaining families and children (two clown acts and a magician with birds). The whole experience was AWESOME! Will definitely be back, on Saturday afternoons is when the vibe seems liveliest. read more

It is nice to see a mall like Sharpstown being turned around with new stores, entertainment, and more things to do. I bring the kids there on the weekends when it is too hot to play outside or when it is raining and they run around the jungle gym and play on the airplane (?!) they have inside.
