The assistant, Branden, was very patient with my daughter and when he was asking her questions, he worded them in ways that was easier for her to understand. If you haven't seen the awful reviews for this place on north Peoria mom's Facebook... go look!! The dentist repeatedly told me my son needed a bunch of cavities filled. I started to get suspicious that she was pushing laser and laughing gas with all these cavities and got a second opinion. He has NO cavities!! Came here because my son is autistic and they have puppies.. doesn't matter!! I cannot believe the blatant lies about my son having cavities. The dentist isn't nice, no good bedside manner. Such a wonderful experience for mom and baby! Each staff member took such great care of my daughter and were very patient and reassuring of her fears. Mounted TVs looping bluey are a brilliant idea! She loved her therapy dog who helped put her even more at ease. Our Dental Hygenist Baylee was so kind and helpful, and Dr. Tran was amazing! Arlene at the front desk scheduled our appointment over the phone and checked us out when we were done and I was so impressed! Our 2.5 year old is very active and leery of anyone touching his mouth. He refused to sit in the exam chair and immediately threw himself on the floor at the start of his appointment. A tantrum was about to happen as he and I had different ideas about how this appointment was going to go. Instead, Jaimie (one of the hygienists) broke the ice by letting our son touch some of the dental tools and she patiently completed his entire cleaning with him standing in front of her. He did so well with her and I was relieved I didn't have to hold him down screaming. Dr. Dan was also amazing. He really listened to my concerns and was not pushy with his recommendations. He was also great with our son who did not cry through his exam - a miracle really! Unfortunately, our current dental insurance does not work with this dental office but I loved our experience so much, I plan to sign up for a different dental plan come open enrollment just so we can take our son back here. read more

I got a written referral specifically to this place from our family dentist who recommended a pediatric dentist. I called and explained that my child has an abscess and an infection and he needs two baby teeth pulled per our regular dentist (again who recommended this pediatric office), and I was told the first available appointment is ONE MONTH out!!! It is NOT an option to wait that long!! I think they should keep open some appointments for emergencies for the kiddos instead of turning them away, which gives the feeling that they don't care about a kid with an emergency!! I found a caring and amazing pediatric dentist nearby who, upon hearing the condition of my kid, scheduled him for the very next morning at 8:30 a.m. It was a very awesome experience, even for my kid who had two teeth pulled! Wish I could give them no stars. Practice has been sold and I was given one business day notice to reschedule my appointments for my children because their appointments that were confirmed a week are now outside their new business hours. My insurance terminates the week after the confirmed appointments and they can't reschedule for a time before my insurance terminates. Under new management; Dr. Whelan has retired and Dr. Petruzzi has returned to his primary practice. Staff all new as well. No concept of customer service at the front desk. I checked in 10 minutes early, and 30 minutes later I had heard nothing from anyone. I checked at the desk and was informed they were running behind and someone would be with me shortly. Apparently, letting me know that upon check-in was not important. Then, as the cleaning and exam revealed a small cavity, the proposed treatment was one that was known to be not covered by insurance, requiring full out-of-pocket payment. Rather than work with the patient to find cost-effective solutions, this new business is intent on raking in as much out-of-pocket cash from patients as possible. STAY AWAY!!! read more

This review is for the office manager Kendall. My family has issues with her for several years and continued to take her unprofessional, disrespectful and incapable attitude because we love Dr. Whelan and the other staff. However we will no longer be going there until someone else has her position. I have to give one star because no one should be put at risk with her working there. My husband and I have 4 kids together. I under and having more then one patient in the same household and different insurances can be frustrating and difficult. I still think that the office should be capable of handling more then one patient though. My biggest issue is Kendall mixing my daughters chart information up with another patient. My daughter has an autoimmune disease and is on several medications. Mixing her information up could at worse, kill her. This also caused for a lot of confusion with billing. The biggest issue with billing is the legal issue. My daughters birth father is supposed to pay 75% of her bill. He has never paid a bill before. She had claimed multiple times that he had paid a portion of her bill. That he called in and paid. I explained to her the importance of being 100% sure because this is all documentation that will and has gone before a judge. She said she was sure. Once she figured out that she had made a mistake and mixed up one child's information with my daughters that it was the other girls father who had paid. To be clear.... my daughters chart had her birthday, name, some information that was hers and someone else's information and another child's picture!! To me this is a huge mistake. I know this because she had me come around the desk and show her which information was my daughters. There have multiple phone calls where Kendall has been unprofessional and rude. Telling me that it's very confusing with all of these kids and all the different insurance. Cutting me off when I'm talking. Being short and snotty on the phone. My husband has witnessed her talking to me like this. Once was while we were on our way into an appointment for me to find out of I had breast cancer. I explained that I would call her back. She was irritated with me. I told her why and she seemed to not believe me. I got a call from my ex husband regarding a bill. I called to ask about the bill. Kendall cut me off and was very rude. She explained that it wasn't a bill it was from insurance. That was fine for her to explain it to me but how she treated me was upsetting. She was on speaker since I was driving. My 15 year old step daughter was in the car with me. She heard the whole conversation. When I got off the phone she asked why the lady was rude and if she didn't like me. She didn't know about previous experiences with her. She didn't know why she stopped going that office. That reason is because of Kendall and how she communicated with my step daughters mom. She refused to take her there after several mistakes were made and the disrespect. I decided to call Kendall back and finally address why she's been rude, unprofessional and hard to deal with. I was at not point during any of our conversations yelling or mad. I ask questions. When I called her back I asked her if she had a problem with me because of how she treats me. This was her response: "you know what Andria, I have been nothing but professional. I was just trying to calm you down. You were yelling. I haven't had an issue with you in two years." I told her I was not yelling I simply asked about what I was told was a bill. I explained that even through the HUGE mistakes that she made I still come to the office because I love everyone else there. Instead of her apologizing for making me feel this way, she immediately was defensive when I asked about an issue with me. I let her know that my step daughter was in the car with me and asked me why she was rude to me which is why I realized it's bad enough that several others have said something. She said "your step daughter doesn't know me". I called my husband after the encounter because I was shocked. He said if she showed exactly how she felt about me when she reacted that way. If she was professional and didn't have any issues she would have said "I am so sorry I made you feel that way." Her responses are shocking and unacceptable. I used to work in the healthcare field. This is 100% not how you should treat patients. I'm surprised that she has worked there this long. I have referred several people to this office. I have seen several people un refer this office because of "the office manager". I left the call asking to leave a message for Dr. Whelan. She said she would but I don't have much faith that she will. I also have several recordings proving this. I started to record after the "10" issue with her. read more

This whole office has been great, my son is 2 but they are patient and kind. And I can tell there are some mothers in that office just how they work with them. Kendall was especially kind to get my son in so quickly, understanding that I was worried but it wasn't really an emergency. But she got me in right away. The dentist, Dr. Whelan did some beautiful work on my sons teeth today! The front desk staff is also wonderful and you can tell the morale is amazing amongst the staff members, which always makes a difference to me! My children have been patients at Pleasant Pediatric Dentistry for over 3 years without issue. Almost a year ago, my daughter (2 years old at the time) went in for a routine checkup and the doctor was holding her head still to do the exam, as she was squirming and trying to get away. This resulted in a stiff neck and her having to go to the chiropractor a few times to resolve the issue. The chiropractor said that she treats a lot of children after dental appointments and that this was a common issue and it was a non-issue for me. My daughter was fine after a few visits to the chiropractor and I didn't place blame on anyone. In fact, I kept our next scheduled appointment because we enjoyed the doctors there. When my daughter went back in for another routine checkup 6 months later, after waiting to be seen for 45 minutes, I made sure to tell the dental assistant (Heather) what had happened at our last visit in hopes that we would take the appointment at my daughter's pace (i.e. not hold her down). Instead of handling the situation with care or concern, she got defensive and told us that she wasn't going to treat us and that she was going to get the office manager. I was in shock. Without even hearing our side of the story, the office manager (Kendal) told us that we would have to leave because she wasn't able to talk to the doctor about what he wanted to do and that he was with a patient. After being there for almost an hour already, I told her that we'd wait to see him. She said that we were not allowed to wait in the private room and kicked us out into the waiting room, where Kendal and Heather both berated me in front of my daughter when I questioned why we weren't being treated. Heather was full on yelling at me, with my daughter in my arms, and Kendall had to get her to stop. I told them that they were unprofessional and uncaring, and Kendall told me that I needed to sit down and be quiet. I stated that I was fine standing, waiting for the doctor, and she told me that she would call the cops if I didn't sit down. I left without ever talking to the doctor, due to their threats. I was absolutely flabbergasted and disgusted that a pediatric dentistry would act like this. I've never been treated so poorly in all my life and now my daughter is frightened anytime we even mention the word "dentist". I'm still in shock and can't understand why this happened. Needless to say, we will NOT be back. read more

Love Dr. Whelan and Dr. Petruzzi! Kendal, the office manager is super nice and so are all of the dental assistants. My kids have been going here since my youngest was 12 months old and my oldest was 3 years old (they are 10 and 8 now). When I found out my DHMO would not cover them going to a pediatric dentist once they turned 7, I changed over to a DPPO has soon as I could. I've always had a fear of dentists and my kids were so comfortable here, I couldn't bear to have them possibly subjected to the same detest of dentists as me. They actually look forward to going to the dentist even when they have to get a small cavity filled every once in awhile, which miraculous to me! Dr Whalen is wonderful! His staff is friendly and thorough. He really engages with the kids so they feel that they are part of their dental hygiene, compared to many dentists that engage with the parent while the child sits there. You can tell he has a high level of concern for the children's well-being and that they are comfortable as they go through this process.
