I loved coming here to the PLOUGHSHARES nursery! It was kinda confusing to find it from the gps but we eventually found it.. parking can be challenging but we parked right in front but do not block the walk way! The lady who works there was very helpful and nice :) I believe her name is Linda ..it was fun experience to look around and pick out plants I had not seen anywhere else which was awesome! Definitely recommend this place and we will be coming back for more plants ... you pay at the back and they will Have a computer Incase you want to pay with card instead of cash :)

Ploughshares Nursery is tucked away near the Naval Base. I've been wanting to come here for a while now to get some plants for the house. We go pass by it quite often because the boys go basketball practice at the Alameda Point. Finally got a chance to go yesterday and picked up a few goodies. It's a very nice tranquil nursery very quiet, and you can just walk on your own wondering through the plants. Price is quite reasonable depending on what you want to pick up. I picked up a few unique succulents, hoping that it will thrive at home like it did at the nursery. If you have time stop by all profits goes to a nonprofit if you would like to support.

Wow, this is a wonderful nursery. With the drought, this place offers drought tolerant plants that are native to California. Who wouldn't want to come! Don't be turned off by the words native plants, because there is a lot of interesting, wonderfully smelling and looking plants for our weather. There's also fruit trees, plants and vegetables. You can pretty much get everything here. We came on a very hot day. There isn't any water fountains and I was dying of thirst. There's a good amount of shade offered by their lush section of bamboo. But other than that it's all sun! Be sure to bring a hat or a water bottle. There's a lot to see. They also have some set ups to look at for ideas and decor. It's really pleasant and I'm sure the employees have a lot of fun working here. It's great because there are a lot of bees, lady bugs and butterflies roaming around. We need more of this! Unfortunately because of the heat, we didn't buy anything that day but we will definitely come back to purchase. The workers are very friendly and knowledgable. A must place to go to get plants!

3x of them were from the nursery!

Do you have ocimum tenuiflorum, also known as holy basil or tulasi?

Sorry to disappoint you, but our crop of Holy Basil was destroyed by Racoons. I guess they were rolling in it to treat their flea infestations, it’s remarkably high in menthol.

I approached him and said, "I don't know much about gardening and I have a feeling you do! So I'm wondering if you could help me. I have hydrophobic soil, and my lawn is patchy." He said, "Well you shouldda used compost." I said, "Let's try again, and not start with 'you shouldda.'" I smiled and continued, "We had the seed put in in October, and they used compost. We will be reseeding and re-composting in the fall..." He interrupted and said, "Well I have some advice if you would LISTEN." I said, "I'm listening." He said, "I have some fertilizer with soil conditioner." I said, "Well, I used soil conditioner yesterday." I never raised my voice or took an attitude with him. I just said, "You have expertise, right? And I respect your expertise. Well, I also have expertise, in another field, and when people come to me for advice, I don't speak to them this way. So I'm going to leave now. Have a nice day." My grown son was with me. I asked him, "Am I crazy or was that man very rude?" My son said he couldn't believe the way Greg spoke to me. I looked him up afterward to be sure I wasn't naming the wrong person. It was the owner, Greg Dupuich. I will not be returning to this nursery, and I would not recommend going there as a woman. I have a feeling he would not have spoken to a man this way. Greg did not bother to take the time to understand my problem or ask basic diagnostic questions. When I got home I looked up some examples of questions a helpful specialist could have asked: -What is your soil type? -How deep down is the soil dry? -How old is the lawn? -Have you added any bark, mulch, or compost recently? -Have you tried using a liquid wetting agent or aerator yet? -Are you looking to buy a tool to fix this, or a chemical/soil product? Those are the kinds of questions a skilled, knowledgeable person would ask, and I would have appreciated it if he had taken the time. Beautiful nursery, but I will take my business elsewhere.

I absolutely love Paraiso Plant Studio!…read more They are located in the cute part of Berkeley, where there are tons of shops and restaurants. I wandered into the store, mostly on a whim, and I'm so thrilled that I did! The staff is absolutely sweet, helpful, and makes shopping so easy. Did I plan on buying a plant? Not at all. Did I? Absolutely! All of their plants are indoor specific, and they will help you find the perfect plant. Do you need a plant that goes in that spot in your Home or Office? That's full Senh? They've got you covered. Do you need a plant that prefers subtle or little to no lighting in your home or office? They've got you covered. Their plants are beautiful, healthy, and they range in different sizes from the most petite, too much larger sizes. The plant I picked out with help from one of the staff, not only is perfect for the space that I want it for, but because I also purchased a lovely ceramic pot, as a complementary service, they repotted my plant in its new ceramic pot. They do offer repotting for your plants, and it's obvious that they have a ton of repeat customers. The store was becoming busy as I was looking at all the different plants, gifts, etc., and if people weren't purchasing arrangements, or having repotting done, they were purchasing new plants like I was. This is a special place to get lost in, shop in, and fall in love with plants.

Every person I've encountered has been such a gem; they're kind and down to earth. Some of the plants are a bit on the pricey side, but they are all beautiful and well cared for, and you're supporting a small business, so it's worth it. On my last trip, I scored a beautiful Hoya Kerrii for $13.50. It was such a fantastic deal considering how many leaves it has! I also love that they have tiny plants in tiny pots, which makes you feel like you're growing something from scratch, plus they're super cute! I'm not in the East Bay often but will make sure I stop here, next time I'm in the area. Highly recommend!

Before even walking in, you're greeted with just a beautiful mural on the outside of the building. Then when you walk in, you're greeted by this beautiful greenhouse and plants all around and then you go into the actual plant shop, and it just keeps on going in terms of places to sit, a cute little coffee bar, a very beautiful altar looking space in the back and a couple of little seating areas that are super Vibey and damn gorgeous and sexy. I'm IN LOVE with a plant shop. There isn't any space in this place where you just can't be in all of anything that your eye catches. Everything is intentional and my senses just soaked everything up that this plant shop had to offer. I already knew what planted I wanted to take home with me and I think it was meant to be because it was one of the first plants that I saw before going into the plant shop. It was almost as if I was meant to go here and pick her up and be her mom. While I was there, I also picked up some incense and linen spray because, why not? I ordered a cardamom matcha, which was recommended to me by Simone and I loved my drink. I took my time and drank it in the corner of the shop just soaking up the vibes and just being around it is gorgeous green beings that give off so much positive energy. I got there first thing in the morning when it opened at 10, super calm, and I was the only one in there looking and browsing. Service was excellent and vibes are 10/10. Returning? From the entrance to the back door, the space has been meticulously curated to be welcoming, refreshing, and a place of peace & refuge. I love the variety of foliage available, and was impressed by the education that the staff offered on each of the plants available for sale. One of my favorite aspects of this shop is the partnership with local businesses, where makers can display and sell their wares in a "pass through" fashion, with all proceeds going to the small business owners. What an outstanding way to build community and to provide real estate for micro businesses. Kudos to the staff and the creative team behind Blk Girls Green House! Job well done!
