Extraordinary service, care, and plants. I heard about this place from my co-worker/friend, who developed a large nursery during the pandemic. She had devoted a large amount of social media content for the new plants that she acquired, particularly from local gardeners and nurseries. After commenting on a couple, she knew I was very intrigued by this Tender Gardener, from whom she made many nice purchases from. During my birthday, she and another colleague purchased a gift card for me. Shortly, I had spent a long time looking through the items they offered. Over the course of 3 months, I noticed they restock on a lot of items that sell out (means their business is doing many things right), and them carrying a lot of exotic items that I have never seen before. Their website also offers a lot of insightful articles that help customers make informed decisions and care for the precious pieces that they purchase. Another great thing about The Tender Gardener is that they offer free Friday deliveries, for purchases of over $30, for Oakland and San Francisco (and have since expanded). I ended up purchasing two plans (photos uploadeded) for a friend who recently purchased a home in Oakland. The purchase, delivery, and service was phenomenal. read more

What I love the most about The Tender Gardener is that- they give us an option to buy the fanciest plants starting at $6 or $8. I haven't seen this option in other stores. I've had a wonderful experience getting my new plant babies from the Tender Gardener. I had messaged them on Instagram which plants they sold were safe for cats and they quickly responded with a whole bunch of great recommendations. I ordered through their website and got free local delivery for my order being over $30. They emailed me the day before delivery asking if there were any special requirements for drop off and worked around my work schedule at home to drop off my plants at a time that worked for me. As an avid gardener indoors and out, I feel like I need to give Lana a shout out as an example of an upstanding business. I've bought a number of indoor plants from Lana (can't beat their beautiful online selection and free delivery during the pandemic!), and unfortunately found some pest issues with a recent purchase. I reached out to Lana with a photo of the problem plant and my current remedy (really want to keep the plant because it's beautiful otherwise). She never got defensive or tried to argue with me (believe me other businesses have done that), and not only offered ideas on how to tackle it, but also shared with me thoughts of how that came about and how she can continue to improve her nursery to prevent future issues. She also offered a replacement or refund if my efforts fail to save the plant, and a discount for future purchase! I understand that bugs happen when you're dealing with living things, and I have to say that by and large most of the plants I got from her are healthy and pest-free. And with this outstanding customer service and thoughtfulness on incorporating customers' feedback, I can say that I'll be shopping with Lana for a while. read more

Just got my first plant delivery from The Tender Gardener and it was a great experience. Before I ordered, I needed to know which plants were cat safe and which would do ok outside. I got a response very quickly and there were ample selections of both types! I ended up ordering the Ponytail Palm Multi and the Chinese Money Plant. The Palm (actually a succulent...who knew?!) is so much more lush than I was expecting. The Chinese Money Plant is adorable. I also asked if they sold soil, which they don't currently, but they were able to give me a great recommendation for getting soil delivered (I don't have a car). Just picked up my order of 2 plants yesterday! Love the website - easy to navigate and the plant pictures are beautiful and accurate. Lana was quick to respond to any questions I had via email. The pickup process was quick and painless. I especially appreciated the brown paper wrapping to protect to leaves of my bushy plants during the drive back. i've been struggling with whether or not i should write this review, but i think it needs to be shared. i've purchased from this business twice, spending a few hundred dollars between the two purchases. i bought a few smaller plants the first time and only one is still with me. i knew one of them (the zebra plant) was heading south shortly after it arrived and emailed for support but was told it was acclimating to my home. i ended up tossing it after it died shortly thereafter, along with two small african violets that arrived in poor condition. i did not intend to purchase from here again, but this shop is one of few in the area that sell kentia palms. i wanted a lower maintenance palm that didn't require bright light and the kentia fit the bill. the delivery went fine but it didn't take long for the kentia to begin to die. i emailed yet again and sent a picture, as requested, and never received a response back. i had to follow up a full month later and was told that "you're either underwatering or overwatering". thanks, i guess? the entire tree (not the fronds but literally the entire plant) is so far keeled over that it can't stand independently and has to be placed against a wall to keep from falling over. it honestly looks like the pot it was planted in is too small. i was also advised to replant the kentia, even though every other nursery/plant shop i've consulted with has strongly advised against it due to the sensitivity of this particular palm. i mentioned in our emails that i have another kentia from another store in the same room that is flourishing and was told that the reason that the palm from this store can't stand on its own and is half dead is because of a difference in top soil. you've got to be kidding me. so if you like throwing away $200+ on expensive palms with slow/no response times, no help, and no actual resolution.. this might be your place. read more
