Went here for a 6mo anniversary date. Has a great ambience. If you ask, they will shape your fried rice in the shape of a heart. Great, cordial service. Did not have to wait for a seat. Great choices of appetizers. Had the spicy tuna sushi, which was great and didn't have to wait long. I got the pad Tai and Thai iced tea, which was delicious. My girl got the shrimp fried rice w/out veges, but it was a bit under seasoned, probably by accident, but they brought it out in the shape of a heart and wished us a happy anniversary! This is hands down the best overall restaurant in the Brandon area. It offers a very calm and authentic ambience to Thai culture with beautiful woodwork seen in the tables and the decor. The wait staff is nothing less than pleasant as they happily take your order with a smile on their face. And the food is just divine. If you're new to trying Thai cuisine, you can start with something like pad Thai or fried rice, but I highly suggest you step out of your comfort zone and try something different! My favorites(it's too hard to choose one) include the fried springrolls, red curry, fried eggplant, som tam(papaya salad), and fried bananas. But, if you're not too keen on any of those, they also offer an extensive sushi menu which is fresh and excellent as well. For me, presentation is key, and this place does not disappoint! They serve their dishes on beautiful fish-shaped platters and form the rice into hearts. Lunch specials here are a steal. My brother had been trying to drag me here for months and after my experience, let's just say he won't have to drag me anymore. It was amazing and the staff was wonderful. We were greeted when we walked in the door and the waitress placed us at a nice quiet table in a corner as she apologized for on behalf of a customer who was speaking very loudly on his cell phone. Ploy Thai is by far my families favorite restaurant. We have probably eaten here 100 times. The crispy duck is incredible, so is the fried eggplant and green curry. I have never been dissatisfied. I've been to this establishment multiple times and have never had such poor service as I experienced today. The customer service today was AWFUL!!!! The waiters were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The waiter came to our table and didn't greet us. He only said "you ready to order?" After two of us ordered, one friend started placing her sushi order but was deciding between two rolls. The waiter literally ran off in the middle of her speaking and said "be back! Let me get somebody else's drink. Every minute counts!". We were baffled at this. In addition, for myself and another friend, our food was much spicier than we requested. He gave us an attitude & then sent somebody else over to the table to assist. He never once asked if we needed refills. Needless to say, we won't be frequenting this establishment anytime in the near future. I would suggest they get a larger staff to help during lunch. so every customer receives good customer service. read more

At one time, this place was the only game in Town, for Thai Food here in Brandon Florida. Of course, there were always better Thai restaurants, and they were either in Tampa, or Lakeland. But, food here WAS reasonably priced, and 1/2 way decent. Pad Thai was always 6.95 here for lunch, your choice of Chicken or Shrimp. We stopped here a few hours ago, sat down, and asked for a Lunch Menu. To our surprise, the lunch portion of Pad Thai has increased in price from 6.95 to 8.50, but wait, it gets even worse. Shrimp Pad Thai is now a dollar extra. That brings the price of a lunch sized serving up to 9.50 a person, not including drinks or tip :( Service was fast and friendly, until I started questioning the owners prices. First, he basically called me a Liar when I told him I used to get the Pad Thai WITH Shrimp for 6.95 on the lunch special. But when I asked him if he was calling me a Liar, he said "That was long time ago". Thanks, but no thanks, we got up and left. We drove up to the Thai Boat Restaurant on Parsons here in Brandon. They do not offer any Lunch Specials, but we got heroic sized plates of Shrimp Pad Thai, absolutely loaded with Shrimp, for the same price as Ploy Thai wanted for a smaller lunch "special", w/o Shrimp. read more

The severs were friendly but we waited well over 30 min for 1 sushi roll, asked 4 times for a side of peanut sauce and waited close to 45 mins for two orders of Pad Thai. They Bahamas Breeze sushi roll was decent. The Pad Thai, is so sweet. I would best describe it as an orange flavor- it was not good. It was not our cup of tea- we like hot not sweet. When I told the waitress I didn't care for the meal (2/3 of which was left in the plate), her response was "Oh.". No offer of a different choice, no adjustment. Friends had the fried rice and stir fried veggies with brown sauce and they have had better at other Thai restaurants. They weren't impressed either. We wanted to try a different spot than our usual and wandered out to try Ploy based on the reviews. The restaurant is cute and very nicely decorated. You can tell it's been there for a long time. We ordered two soups and spring rolls to start. The Thom Ka soup was yummy but the miso was very watered down. We ordered both a noodle and a speciality curry dish. The curry was nice and paired well with the eggplant included. The noodle dish was first brought out drenched in brown sauce. They remade it but it was super bland and noting to rave about. I am thai. I grew up eating authentic Thai food that my Thai mother made. I was craving Thai food and found this place on yelp with many great reviews. I can't say how good the food is if you eat here but I can say that their takeout is probably the worst I have ever experienced. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and they were just ok. The holy basil pork had absolutely NO FLAVOR. The drunken noodles again..NO FLAVOR. The papaya salad had mostly shredded carrots in it as if they ran out of papaya again, the flavor was off, it mostly tasted sweet. The worst was the chicken larb. A larb dish is supposed to be eaten cold or at least room temp. This chicken larb was warm as if they had just cooked the chicken!! Larb meat should already be cooked and refrigerated so that's it's cold when tossed with seasonings and herbs. Plus their take out containers were styrofoam!! I consider myself a pretty tolerant person when it comes to Asian food..I'm mostly just happy not to have cooked it myself..but this was just not worth the time, the drive or the $$ spent. read more

Had been to this restaurant twice 4-5 years ago but unfortunately it has changed significantly in its cuisine, which now is more a Thai imitation, Hong-Kong style cuisine. I had ordered a Massaman curry with chicken as an authentic Thai signature dish, but received a modified Red curry instead (which is much easier to make, even by non-Thai kitchens, than an authentic Thai Massaman curry sauce). Furthermore, they also tried to trick me with the price, since I had ordered and received chicken curry but was charged for a chicken & shrimp curry $5 more than a regular chicken curry price. The waitress was very friendly when I pointed out the mistake on the bill and called the Chinese manager, who refused to give the correct price, although the menu clearly showed that shrimp was a higher charge than just chicken as the meat choice. Hence the restaurant appears to be a fake Thai restaurant with non-Thai kitchen staff, as the Chinese manager also reflected, and none of the other staff appeared to be Thai either. The restaurant now seems to be primarily after making money, and a fake "Thai" restaurant label is selling much better, even if it is not authentic Thai cuisine. There are definitely much better and authentic Thai restaurants in the area, and particularly more honest ones that don't try to trick their customers just to make a few more dollars per dish. read more

Great authentic decor! Food...it was decent. I decided to try their Pad Thai based on the previous reviews and was very disappointed. It was sweet, greasy, and way too orange looking. They also didn't give me enough limes/lemons. I also tried their Tom Kha Gai (Coconut chicken soup) and that was a little better than their Pad Thai, but the flavors were still lacking. They definitely skimp on the lemongrass and galanga root, which makes me sad because that's my favorite soup. Kha in Thai means galanga. Hence, the soup should be enhanced by the galanga root and you shouldn't taste just straight coconut milk. It's decent for a quick Thai food fix. read more
