I have a very simple return and only use a CPA for peace of mind. Maybe I'm spoiled, but my previous CPA did my taxes on the spot and answered my questions right away. Last year she retired, so I went with these new guys. The question I asked was pretty simple... "Can I contribute to an IRA this year?" I would imagine that any CPA would be able to figure that out right away, but this lady had to look into it. The real problem is that after a month of waiting, I still didn't get my taxes back. I emailed and asked... No response. A few days later, I emailed again... No response. After a WEEK, I emailed and asked if they can please respond to my previous emails. No response... I called... they're too busy. I called back... Again too busy. After a while, I just barraged them with phone calls emphasizing that I expect a response. I felt sorry for the poor admin and the receptionist whom I had to bother with 20 calls, but it was the only way to get through. Second star comes because when they finally responded, they had my paperwork ready to go. To their credit, the lady doing my taxes seemed brand new at this, and had no idea what she was doing. A professional organization, however, would have a senior member helping her. Taking a long time to finish the taxes is ok. Not responding to emails, well, I can live with that. Both together, that's a problem. They didn't seem to understand that people take their taxes seriously.
