I would strongly caution anyone considering living at this apartment complex. My experience here was extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and honestly felt dishonest from start to finish. The management and office staff were incredibly difficult to deal with and consistently avoided accountability. One of the biggest issues was the security deposit. They advertise it as a "refundable deposit," but then tack on a so-called "nonrefundable cleaning fee" regardless of whether you leave the apartment spotless or clean it yourself. I specifically asked THREE separate times for a copy of the rental agreement or documentation that clearly stated this policy, and they refused to provide it every single time. That alone says a lot. Maintenance issues were another nightmare. My washer and dryer were broken for THREE MONTHS, and despite multiple requests and follow-ups, management offered no urgency, no temporary solution, no compensation, and barely any communication. For an apartment complex charging the amount they do, that level of neglect is unacceptable. What bothered me even more was how they handled serious property issues. I personally have video evidence of staff painting over what appeared to be mold stains instead of properly addressing the problem. Covering up potential mold with paint instead of professionally treating it is irresponsible and concerning, especially for tenants' health and safety. Overall, the staff and management came across as disorganized, dismissive, and more focused on keeping tenants' money than actually helping residents. Communication was poor, promises were rarely followed through on, and every issue became unnecessarily difficult. I rarely leave negative reviews, but people deserve to know what they may be walking into before signing a lease here. Save yourself the stress, document EVERYTHING, and think twice before renting from this complex. read more

I cannot rave enough about this complex. I recently downsized from a two bedroom to a one bedroom within this complex. Tailiyah who works in the leasing office has been AMAZING. The whole staff is. I have been talking to Tailiyah from the start of moving in the complex in January 2024. She is person who sold me in the first place to move in. She's just very professional, courteous and friendly. Her whole demeanor made it just such a welcoming experience. When it came time for me to switch apartments i was so set that i did not want to be on a top floor unit, though i had never actually even looked nor lived in a top floor unit. She had listened to what i wanted in my apartment switch, more lighting, space needs etc. and she showed me a unit on the top floor. I cant say enough how much i appreciate her listening to what i really was looking for in my apartment. I moved in to my top floor unit at the end of January and i am so in love with my place now! I love coming home to my place. I have all the things that i talked to Tailiyah about, so much more natural light like i asked about and such a spacious feel. She even helped me pick a color for my wall that i asked to be painted! Absolutely feel like she went above and beyond to make me feel happy in my space. read more

Move here if you want the staff to not follow through with there job your car to get stolen from the parking lot when you ask for help about that they ignore you and provide personal details about your lease and account to people who claim it's ok with out verifying that the information is valid. My experience at PlumTree Apartments for the past 3 years almost 4, has been truly Amazing! I want to acknowledge the staff (Sierra, Moosa, and Sergio) they are all so kind, have great communication, and very understanding, helpful individuals. They truly made me & my family feel safe and happy living here. This complex is very safe & friendly. Everything is near by, grocery (Lucky's, Nobhill, Safeway), Fast food (McDonalds, IHOP, Chipotle, Tacobell, BurgerKing,etc.) There is also a Kaiser & VA Clinic 3-5 minutes away. We have been living here for one year, and I have to say, it's been really nice. My only complaint is how expensive the Bay Area in general is, and that spending $2000+ on a one bedroom apartment is considered cheap. We are currently at $2300 for a one bedroom, one bath apartment with washer and dryer included in the unit. We picked this complex due to the location for our jobs. It is centrally located to local shops and the freeway. The neighborhood is quiet and pretty peaceful. Crime is almost nonexistent in this area, and we feel safe walking around at night, which is a must in the world today. Even though this is a decent size complex, it still has a relaxed and mellow feel to it. The property management here is top notch. If there is ever an issue, it is resolved promptly and professionally. The entire property staff from management to maintenance is very professional, polite, and courteous. I luckily have not had any major issues with my residence, but I know if I did, it would be handled swiftly and professionally. Overall, this is a wonderful place to live. We renewed our lease for another year, and did not think twice about it. Having a great location, a quiet neighborhood, great property management, and good neighbors made it easy to want to stay. I have nothing but nice things to write about my experience at Plum Tree Apartments, having now resided here for about a year. I spent a good six weeks touring other apartments before happily landing here. My non-negotiable requirements included: Pet-friendly; excellent (as in excellent CENTRAL air conditioning; parking; top-floor unit; in-unit washer/dryer; central location; no street noise. These demands definitely limited my options; also, what some complexes were attempting to pass as central A/C was not amusing. I am very happy with my unit and love being home. I have a sunny balcony where hangs my puppy. The ceilings are unusually high rather than claustrophobic. My place is yummy-cool irrespective of the heat, without my PG&E bill being crazy. The grounds are clean and well-kept. It is nice to have a community pool. I have a convenient, assigned parking spot. I have enjoyed getting to know (most of) my neighbors, and especially their respective pets. I really have been pleased with the friendliness and responsiveness of the staff. My puppy makes too-frequent trips to the Rental Office to avail himself of the bottomless bowl of dog treats (Thank you!). Amandi, Moosa and Sierra always make us feel welcome and unintrusive. They were collectively supportive in my dealings with a not-ideally-considerate neighbor, and helped resolve the situation. [All of the above is genuine, true and unsolicited]. read more

I live next to Plum Tree apartments and while it's a lovely complex I have an issue with the constant pre-8am leaf-blowers and mowers. Some work from home and it's maddening to not only to be subjected to the high-decibel thrum every morning but to have the men blowing leaves and dirt through the chain link fence onto nearby cars really sucks too. I have been at plumtree for about 2 and a half years now and I can honestly say that I am very happy here. The office staff is great and always addresses our concerns or needs right away. This is the only apartment complex I've lived in that guarantees your service request within 72 hours. It's so nice that the maintenance man, Sergio, always shows up (most of the time that day or the next day) right away and is happy to fix the problem. Chris and Tony in the office are super nice and helpful. I love stopping by the office for a complimentary coffee and treat for my dog and a quick chat with whomever is in the office. Anne is the manager and she is always willing to help and address any concerns I have. Anything I have addressed with her has been handled right away. To be honest, I'm not sure why plum tree has been getting so many bad reviews lately. I have lived in a few comparable apartments around the area and plum tree offers the most for what you get for the price. The staff is great and more importantly, I feel very safe in the neighborhood. I think there may be some fake accounts writing reviews on here that just aren't true or there is some type of personal vendetta happening. Lived at this apartment complex for almost two years. The first year was fine then after Ann (new manager) of the building came into the picture it went down hill from there, first of all there have been gunshots that went off during a drive by here and for the ignorant people who want to jump to conclusions before checking there information here is the website to locate that: cityofmartinez.org case number: 18-3208 Multiple people near my building heard the gun shots, some of them even called it in. So that's that. Now the apartment complex itself, It's mediocre for the price they charge, I've seen some very nice apartments nicer than these for better prices (one reason why I moved) trash is consistency over filled, people park there cars for months at a time (which by the way is a policy they have, you can't park it there for long periods of time) I have come out of my apartment at 5am for work and I have seen homeless people walking and screaming at themselves. The management, Absolutely horrible, Ann is by far the rudest person I have ever meant and dealt with (other reviews about her on here are the same) I had an instance where my neighbor wanted to play there music all night and day, me not being scared of any type of confrontation at all went over there and told them multiple times to turn it down to where the cops had to be called, I grew up where you never call the cops you deal with your problems yourself but when I had brought this to the attention to Ann, Chris and Tony none of them did nothing about it to where the cops had to be called the officer himself even said that management needs to grow a back bone and deal with it. So if you move here and have issues with noise and neighbors don't expect management to help or deal with it for you, your on your own. I have witnessed and heard "management" talk bad about other tenants at this complex at the party's they would hold, they would sit in the back and whisper and laugh about people. I've talked people who have lived at this apartment for years (longer than most people there) and they are actively looking to leave because of management and how downhill that complex has went. I'm leaving this review for people to look closely and do there homework before they move into any type of apartment. I have never been more miserable than living at this complex for those two years, I had my stuff packed up and ready to go on my last day and I was out of there. Update: Also if you notice how close some of these reviews have been when posted, every time there is a negative review someone goes on there and posts a positive one, be mindful when someone says it's "There first review" they are having these people go on here and make random "Positive reviews" to boost there ratings, some of the information they know about other tenants they only got from management, it's not hard to see what's going on here, management is asking these people who "They are close with" go on there and of course never give the full truth. New review: 3/1/22. Once again, I want to share the top-notch service I received today from Sergio. I have to say he takes the time to listen when he is out and about amongst the property. He answered a lot of questions regarding a recent repair request, he also shared ideas in the future along the lines of my interest in a larger space and didn't hesitate to mention the several properties available within Sequoia properties. I also appreciate that once a month the property manager Ann and her staff put together creative options for residents . Last month this included an onsite food truck providing residents to buy lobster right outside of their home ! Over the holidays they provided the residents a gingerbread kit and at Halloween we got a candy bag and a needlepoint craft. For me, all of these kind gestures add a bit of spark and fun to your average workday ! They say it is the little things that go a long way. I've lived in plum tree apartments for 2 years. I can proudly say that plum tree is one of the best apartments that I have lived in. Management and neighbors are all friendly and nice. Apartment property is kept clean. I've never really had a problem finding a parking spot. I love my apartment unit; floor plan is spacious and renovated; it has laundry in unit. You can't find anything like that with the price they offer around here. I have lived here for about two years and absolutely LOVE it! The apartments are beautifully remodeled and the neighborhood is very quiet. However, it really is the people that work at this property that are the shining stars. Chris, Tony, and Sergio do the most amazing job at making sure everyone feels taken care of and appreciated. I had a recent issue with my heater not working and not only did Sergio deal with the issue within an hour, but Chris and Tony at the front desk were checking in with me after to make sure everything was fixed properly. My impression of Plum Tree has changed in the 3 years we've resided here. Goods things about this apartment complex; I love my neighbors and the community is very dog/pet friendly. The recent changes in the leasing office and apartment management over the last 2 years has resulted in the property quickly going downhill. There are overflowing garbage dumpsters and dog waste canisters, a major rat infestation, litter scattered throughout the property. This summer dogs are allowed in the pool area and actually swim in the pool. Last summer Contra Costa County health dept closed the pool. There are broken sprinklers that flow like a Disneyland water fountain that create large muddy holes surrounding sidewalks that are impossible NOT to walk through. Dog waste bags all over the property. It smells horrible. Landscaping is atrocious with areas that get ignored and pockets of leaves blown into corners but never gathered or picked up. Sadly this is not the nice, manicured community we moved into. It was once beautiful. We've had to put in over a dozen trouble tickets since we moved into a larger unit 18 months ago. Numerous issues with plumbing, overflowing toilets, the shower head breaking, kitchen faucet breaking, replacement of the refrigerator after 3 attempts to fix (+cost of groceries), replacement of washer & dryer after 3 attempts to fix and the numerous quick fixes that never worked. Our previous neighbors had a major water leak from the apartment above and had everything ruined when a pipe broke. They told us it was a nightmare experience and they ended up getting an attorney. I can only guess that there maybe some serious underlying plumbing issues that have not been addressed as I have serious plumbing issues too. The newest community manager invokes fear with me. She is rude and unfriendly towards us. I've never seen her smile. Maintenance has proven incapable of fixing or repairing and when you try/attempt to discuss this with the property management you are given nothing but excuses. If you don't put in the request online it falls through the cracks. No one in the leasing office accepts responsibility.A high turnover of leasing office staff and poor management makes a once beautiful property unattractive to current residents. read more

We needed maintenance on our garbage disposal and was helped right away. Their maintenance man Sergio is AMAZING! He is very helpful, respectful and very personable. As a resident of Plum Tree Apartments, I can go on and on singing the praises of the staff and my fellow residents. The office staff, specifically Chris, is always professional, friendly and eager to solve any rare issues that may pop up. Sergio, the maintenance engineer, was the wonderful man who sold me on my apartment. He is always available and quick to respond to any maintenance issues that occurs. His cheerful disposition and kind words almost makes me want to break stuff just so I can chat with him (I don't do it, but you get what I mean ;). The community property is safe, quiet, and clean. I have never experienced what DJ has. There has been no gunshots nor have I seen these screaming homeless individuals or intoxicated people wandering around. Parking is open with designated spots for the residents. I am thankful for the open spots due to my past experience with other complexes that require parking tags for the limited visitor parking spots. Although I do not have any pets, the property is pet friendly. I have not had any experience with pet waste being of any issue. The apartments have ample space for myself. The website is transparent on the specs concerning size. The appliances are up to date and each apartment has a washer and dryer (major points for that). The accent wall was perfect and added to the decor of my apartment. Bathrooms with great counter space and a door to separate the sink from the shower/toilet area. The closet is sufficient with three sliding doors worthy of space. Valet trash service is available and appreciated (I hate taking out the trash). I look forward to another year with Plum Tree and my fellow residents. For future residents, come visit the community for yourself and determine if the bad reviews reflect the atmosphere and vibe you receive during your tour. I bet it doesn't. read more

I truly love living in this community. The rent is very reasonable, considering pricing in the more expensive, neighboring cities like Walnut Creek, Danville etc. it's hard to find a unit with Washer/Dryer anywhere in the Bay Area anymore, especially at these prices. The staff are friendly and helpful but what I love most are the peace and quiet and how dog friendly this community is. EVERYONE has a dog or cat, it seems, and the pet community here is very connected. If you want to have central heat/air and washer/dryer in unit but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, this is definitely the spot. read more

We have lived at sequoia properties the last 2 years (regency plaza and then plum tree apartments) and both times we worked with Chris on move in and move out. He is the best! He is always responsive and quick to assist should anything come up. Anytime I emailed or called he answered my questions and got back to me quickly and efficiently. The property itself was great and the location is walking distance to a lot of great nearby amenities. The pool and hot tub are great and they do a great job at keeping the property clean and secure. We never had any safety issues living at either property. This is a great place to live and the leasing staff is super helpful and great as well! Maintenance is prompt and thorough. The complex is pin drop quiet. Visitors to our apartment are amazed how quiet and respectful everyone is in the community. I love that I was able to pick an accent paint color for the interior which makes our place even more homey. I would recommend Plum Tree to family and friends. I have been a resident of Plum Tree Apartments since November 2013. They are one of only two apartment complexes in Martinez that offer washer and dryer. I have found living here very comfortable, convenient to shopping, and easy freeway access. It is within walking distance to everything you need. The apartment layout is nice and I have an upgraded kitchen. The grounds are well cared for and the deck around the pool was recently redone. Apartment management has been responsive to the minor issues I have encountered (e.g., light bulb out, etc.). Pets are allowed and most residents have dogs. Some residents are not as considerate as others in picking up after their dog defecates in the landscaping. Plum Tree is a nice place to live and I would recommend it to anyone looking to rent an apartment in Martinez. read more

Hello, my wife and I have lived here at Plum Tree Apartments with our 4 year old daughter for 2 years now and absolutely love it!! The pool is great in the summer. They provide a grill by the pool so you can cook while you take a dip. Awesome jacuzzi for those colder evenings. We don't own any pets but it is definitely a very dog friendly environment. I've always had the fear of someone breaking into our car or even people stealing packages from our door but nope, everyone has been amazing here. The staff is great here! Whenever there's an issue, they address it as soon as they can. We are extremely comfortable here and cannot recommend this place enough! read more

The office staff is not just there to respond to issues, they are friendly neighbors themselves. I appreciate that the rental rules and changes are clearly communicated. My service requests have been resolved as soon as possible. Not only are there in-unit washer/dryers, but there is valet trash, a pool, spa, small fitness room, and seasonal community gatherings. OK, let me start by stating that if you have a dog this is the property for you. If you do not have a dog be prepared to walk outside every morning to the smell of a dog park, urine, especially when it rains. Now comes the rest of the story. I gave 30 days notice on 1/8/19 that we were going to be vacating the property due to the fact that our upstairs neighbors are up till 11:30 PM at night and are up at 4:30 AM being louder than acceptable considering what we pay.....management could care less and they never followed up on our complaints. We got to the point where we were sleeping with earplugs every night and in some situations missing our alarms going off. Have had my vehicle broken in to twice in the middle of the night and some neighbors have had gas siphoned from their vehicles as well. The interior "updating" is shotty at best. I've lived in many apartment complexes over my 12+ years as renter and I'm proud to say this is the first place that I've truly loved living. Their leasing staff is friendly, helpful and prompt. Sergio, the lead maintenance manager, goes above and beyond. The property is well kept and quiet. I've never once felt unsafe here or thought about leaving. On top of that, I love my apartment/its finishes and my neighbors and so does my dog Oscar! I was more than happy to resign my lease and will be sad when one day I buy my own home and have to leave. If you want a review that is not biased, influenced by a raffle giveaway by the apartment complex, or by friends of apartment management, this is the review you should consider. Dog friendly property with good maintenance. That being said, residents here are extremely loud, rude, and inconsiderate. People here do not care if you are being disturbed. I have had to call the police department on multiple occasions due to noise complaints. Office management is hit or miss. I have had experiences where they are nice and helpful, however I have also had experiences of them being mean to residents and talking poorly about them. I find overall professionalism is lacking. Office hours were lucky to be 4 days a week. Nothing is done with rule enforcement. Parking is a free for all. Some residents park 3+ cars on the property. No parking passes or anything to regulate. Don't get stuck next to the huge trucks that can't fit in their lines, because for some reason people in an apartment complex need a big truck.... if you report vehicles parked in multiple spots for instance to management, they somehow don't make it out of their office to do anything about it. Non-smoking policies are disregarded. I visually watched multiple residents on a daily basis smoking on their balconies. So called security patrol at night is nonexistent and the number you call doesn't even think they monitor your community half of the time. Apartments are overpriced and NON-NEGOTIABLE. Be prepared for rent prices to hike/drop on a flip of a dime. Gardening/ Grounds maintenance is extremely sloppy, poor, and damage things more than they are fixed. Pipes are bursting constantly creating giant water spouts. People's dogs poop everywhere. If you live next to Morello, you will experience the great experience of drunk people extremely late at night walking, people smoking right next to your window, homeless people screaming to themselves, constant vehicles going down the road, and if you lucky.... gunshots. (Yes, this is true.) If you don't want to take my word for it, MPD releases activity reports for every single day. There is no monitoring of who comes in or out of the complex and there is no security surveillance overlooking the property. Garbage is always overflowing, and people are dumping stuff 24/7. Electric car stations are not hooked up, so disregard that feature. With all this being said, property has been on an avalanche of a downward slide since the old property manager left mid 2018. My recommendation, give yourself your own little personal walk around tour on a Sunday afternoon and greatly consider choosing someplace else. I lived here for over 9 years, worse property manger I have ever had to deal with. Anne Taylor is very nasty, rude and inconsiderate. My neighbors leave dog waste and beer bottles out on the patio front and do not pick up the waste. I have notified Anne about this several times, and she does absolutely nothing about this. Anne smokes weed on the property and supports LBGT community. I live in the 812 Apartment area. Very nasty place to live. Dog waste is everywhere. Loud music at night. My neighbors are intoxicated at night and Anne Taylor parties with tenants and hides in the office all day laughing at tenants and being rude to me. Good location, spacious floor plans and a welcome community for dogs and dog lovers. The maintenance staff is very friendly, responsive and attentive...the grounds and units are well maintained. Unfortunately, I have been dealing with several issues that have made MY experience there rather unpleasant...to say the least. Starting with my neighbors, one of which I share a wall with. There are late night drunk fests on the regular with slamming doors, loud music, and people under the influence running through the community and the parking lots...not to mention driving through them. They leave a solid trail of broken bottles, cigarette butts, and trash for the rest of us to contend with. When the alcohol kicks in they jump fences and wreak havoc on the shared areas in the community, like the pool and hot tub which I happen to live in front of. When the alcohol runs out, the fights begin and negotiating at 2 am with drunk neighbors doesn't really pan out. The police have been called more times than I am sure I keep track of, and now it appears they, too, are sick of it. Despite my numerous contact with Sequoia Equities and the PT management, nothing has been done and the rage continues. Can't remember a weekend that I and/or my guests and neighbors haven't been subjected to their late night chaos. As if that's not enough, we have now been told to remove any and all personal touches, such as plants, windchimes and statuary from our patio ledges and anything attached to the building or decks. They say it's in the interest of curb appeal. How can a barren landscape have more appeal than color and art? My apartment faces the pool and the pool deck is about 4 feet higher than my ground floor. Without my plants and windchimes I am 100% exposed to everyone at the pool. I will have ZERO privacy. Must be human nature but everyone at the pool looks right into my apartment.... I have asked Seqouia Equities to consider this, unfortunately, my experience is of little concern to them. They say that at Plum Tree Apartments "the experience matters". I am finding this really difficult to buy into. If privacy and a community of neighbors who have mutual respect for oneanother is important to you then I would encourage you to LOOK ELSEWHERE. Regrettably, I would not recommend this community to anyone at this time and can't wait to be released from my lease and on my way to a better place. read more
