I thoroughly enjoyed living at Muirwood! The amenities of the beautiful pool, valet service for garbage/recycling, new washers and dryers in the laundry rooms and the location are more than enough for me to recommend living there. But I must also mention how great the management is. Gina and Darlene are so nice and accommodating. Very friendly and pleasant always!! Lastly, the apartments themselves are nice and the whole complex is very clean and well maintained. If you are in need of a place to live I highly recommend Muirwood Gardens.

The staff does…read morenot follow DRE regulations about documenting complaints, so every time is like the first time with the office. I have been making ongoing harassment complaints about Tony Morales, the porter onsite, since 2022, and none of these complaints have been documented anywhere outside my personal file. Tony approaches my car any time he thinks no one is looking, and my car gets more damage in this parking lot than when I lived in West Oakland, or Potrero Hill. Keep all your communication with Sequoia Equities in writing. Start organizing those emails with an Index and summaries, because you will want to be organized when you file complaints with BBB, FTC, and DRE. Residents are not this company's clients; investors are. Residents have no value to the staff of this company, and they will treat you that way. Their job is the real estate and investors. The residents might as well be fertilizer. $30,000 a year in rent is not worth following DRE rules to this organization. But sure, the real estate is in the best condition it's been in for years. Another thing: Renewing your lease. They have an automated system that asks you to renew your lease without viewing the new lease, by just clicking a button in your resident portal. In California they cannot force you to sign a new lease, but three people from this organization pressured me to sign a new lease that would not have been in my best interest. By the way, they sent me this "rent renewal" the day after I complained to their staff. Bypass the drama and go straight the regulatory agencies to avoid retaliation.

I would strongly caution anyone considering living at this apartment complex. My experience here…read morewas extremely frustrating, unprofessional, and honestly felt dishonest from start to finish. The management and office staff were incredibly difficult to deal with and consistently avoided accountability. One of the biggest issues was the security deposit. They advertise it as a "refundable deposit," but then tack on a so-called "nonrefundable cleaning fee" regardless of whether you leave the apartment spotless or clean it yourself. I specifically asked THREE separate times for a copy of the rental agreement or documentation that clearly stated this policy, and they refused to provide it every single time. That alone says a lot. Maintenance issues were another nightmare. My washer and dryer were broken for THREE MONTHS, and despite multiple requests and follow-ups, management offered no urgency, no temporary solution, no compensation, and barely any communication. For an apartment complex charging the amount they do, that level of neglect is unacceptable. What bothered me even more was how they handled serious property issues. I personally have video evidence of staff painting over what appeared to be mold stains instead of properly addressing the problem. Covering up potential mold with paint instead of professionally treating it is irresponsible and concerning, especially for tenants' health and safety. Overall, the staff and management came across as disorganized, dismissive, and more focused on keeping tenants' money than actually helping residents. Communication was poor, promises were rarely followed through on, and every issue became unnecessarily difficult. I rarely leave negative reviews, but people deserve to know what they may be walking into before signing a lease here. Save yourself the stress, document EVERYTHING, and think twice before renting from this complex.

    Mountain View House - Volunteering

    Mountain View House

Mountain View House is temporary housing for families in need…read more My wife volunteered for us to cook and serve food this past Tuesday. When she first told me I wasn't extremely happy that she signed up to do it since it was on a Tuesday and if anyone reads my wife's reviews they would know that Tuesday is synonymous with Tacos. Amy, (my wife) had to figure out what we were going to serve for that Tuesday and she choose Spaghetti. I didn't realize that we weren't just going to show up and cook and serve we actually had to buy the food cook it bring it in and serve it at six exactly. We cooked the spaghetti sauce at home first and we were told to make enough food for 30 people 11 of those being adults and the rest kids. We used about 3 pounds of ground beef and a plethora of tomato sauce. It turned out great, then Amy snuck in some weird looking green stuff that I later found out to be something called Broccoli. It was still amazing. We then drove to Martinez where we finished the rest of the cooking. We also brought Garlic Bread that we stuck in the oven when we got there and a salad that Amy had already cut up a bunch of vegetables so all we had to do is toss it. The last thing that we had to to was cook the noodles so we found a giant pot and stuck three packages of noodles in it after it was boiling. Mountain View House was very clean and everyone was very friendly, from the staff who showed us around to the families that were going to enjoy the meal with us. The kitchen was also immaculate and it was very easy to navigate around and cook the rest of the meal. After we were done cooking we served the food and then grabbed plates and went out and ate with the families. Everyone was so nice and so thankful it really felt great to be able to give back to the community in such a one on one environment.

SPENDING MY FREE TIME WISELY…read more I try to fit volunteering into my schedule whenever I can. I enjoy meeting new people and helping out the community, but it can be hard to find free time with my busy life. Often it seems volunteer hours are available weekend mornings, but I enjoy this time at home since I work full-time during the week. I'm always excited to find something close to home, especially if it's mid-week during the evening! I heard about an opportunity to make dinner for homeless families at this temporary housing facility and it worked out with my schedule - I could choose Monday through Friday, and I picked Tuesday. I signed up my husband and myself and agreed to purchase enough food for the families housed here. We showed up early with most of our food precooked (which was great because they follow a strict serving time of 6pm). We only served a couple minutes after 6 and then ate with the families. It was a great experience overall. However, I can hardly afford my own groceries sometimes! I think we'd have to find someone to split the cost with before we could continue to work with this house in the future.
