I love this place so much! The pastries and breakfast items are so good. The buttery crispy croissant are the closest, you can get to Paris without taking the trip. The small coffees here come with 2 espressos unlike Starbucks (tall). Which makes your ice latte taste more like coffee instead of a milk shake. They even serve cortados here. Staff is friendly.

Beautiful little coffee shop attached to a book store. Quiet with music playing, great service and the coffee was exceptional. Also served cinnamon buns and other baked goods but haven't tried them yet. Would highly recommend this place to book lovers.

Lovely new cafe at the wharf right by the Politics and Prose bookstore! Stop by to chat with a friend or study here. The pastries were delicious. I really enjoyed their chocolate chip cookie and their ham and choose croissant. It was the perfect balance of chewy and crispy. Service is also quick and the server is friendly. I love their interior decor with a nice sunroof and ambient lighting. They also have WiFi and a bathroom here

Took a quick scroll around and found this new spot! Nice and modern looking cafe right next to the bookstore! Chill vibes. The barista is absolutely friendly and very accommodating as we were inquiring related to the menu and drinks. Ordered yuzu matcha tonic - definitely refreshing taste as you could taste sparkling tonic to hit off with a slight tone of earthy matcha and a sprite of yuzu citrusy flavors. A delight drink around here! Also tried a chocolate with sea salt cookie, definitely fudgy bite but satisfying integrated flavors. Soft and slightly chewy. Definitely would come back for this cookie if I craved for a chocolate cookie.

I was disappointed by the plain avocado toast that was $18, if you're looking to grab a bite I would suggest to walk down to toastique where they have more reasonable prices for similar menu items that come with additional toppings. The space is minimal and it's a decent place to work if you get there early (it gets more crowded in the afternoon). There are a few large tables with outlets available and it's pretty quiet inside. They do offer a good assortment of pastries which looked delicious.

When I found out that a new bakery opened up at the Wharf, I knew I had to give it a try. We got the quiche and the chocolate cookie, and both were excellent. Both the quiche and cookie were nice and rich, and really hot the spot. I definitely plan on coming back here more.

The Wharf - Washington, DC - out for a lunchtime walk and came across this little bakery cafe. The cafe adjoins Politics and Prose. It's well lit by a beautiful round skylight so probably a nice cafe to take a Zoom call if you had to do so. A number of people were working there when I stopped in. The cafe worker helped me choose from the 3 delicious looking cookie options - double chocolate, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle. She quickly packed my cookie to go in a small brown bag. Back at my desk I tucked in. The cookie had plenty of chocolate chips and a good consistency but also an aftertaste i couldn't identify. I would return but definitely give this cookie a pass.

Super good. Best cafe we tried in DC. The pastry was great! Get the pistachio croissant better than any croissant I had in LA!

Great service, friendly staff awesome food. $14 for a fresh baked loaf of sourdough... Great Chai, designer cappuccino. Comfortable space and outlets for charging are in abundance. Clean quiet shared space with the bookstore.

My favorite bakery has a new location on the Wharf!!! The same delicious pastries and food options are here along with much more seating. There are a couple large communal tables along with smaller bistro-style tables inside and outside. I grabbed a pan suisse here and it's just as tender and delicate as I know. If you're unfamiliar, they make a variety of viennoiserie from standard croissants, one of the best ham and cheese croissants ever, and a fantastic morning bun (my personal fav!). Their basque cheesecake is also a winner and they make a super dense bread pudding that is carb heaven. I can't say there are many businesses I frequent on the Wharf, but this will be my go-to when I'm ever in the neighborhood now. So glad to see this local businesses expanding!

The owner should look up the law because she's way out of compliance: https://code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/council/laws/23-187), but charge a 3% fee if you pay by credit card, which you are required to. They basically give you no option to avoid paying a fee. (In response to the owner's response below: They have a sign that says NO CASH, so is a customer supposed to believe they'll accept cash IF the customer has exact change, as the owner says they will? And if they do accept that cash, then they would, in fact, have cash on hand anyway, which undercuts her claim they have no cash on hand...but they don't because they have a sign that says NO CASH. Every other business in the community doesn't blame the city for their own non-compliant policies, as the owner does, and accepts cash in the same circumstances. Plenty of places are happy to take cash and prefer it, and it is required by DC law. I was surprised to see this NO CASH sign after emailing with the owner about it *a year and a half ago.* I walked right out when I saw the sign.) They also now have a self-serve bar which invites the spread of things like norovirus. There are no sneeze guards. They make it hard for me to support them even though I really have been trying to for years.

We also really appreciated the friendly service and staff members we came across during our time there. The first day I ordered an everything bagel with veggies and cream cheese -- I took out the bacon and the price of the sandwich decreased by $3. The second time I ordered an egg and cheese everything bagel with avocado and latke. The latke was just okay and didn't add much to my sandwich. The everything bagels were really good as well with plenty of seasoning but I think they were a little tougher for our taste (a perfect bagel would be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but the inside was a little tough and the outside wasn't crispy). For a coffee, two bagels, tax and tip, we paid about $32, so they are a bit on the pricier side. But the staff are very kind to the community. The place gets super busy around 9 am, so we learned to just order online the next time and our food was ready within 15 minutes. Other people and us on the first day were waiting over 20 minutes otherwise for our food, which I know can be frustrating. Very popular bagel shop.

The breakfast pretzel was served room temperature, eggs were not to my liking, but good flavor from the bacon and cheese. The pretzel itself self was dry and kinda flavorless. The salted pretzel had a soft interior and crusty exterior with nice salt flakes but didn't live up to my expectations. The pub cheese was a welcome purchase to polish off the pretzel. The sweet pretzel was the best from our order. Pretzel was still dry but the cinnamon sweet topping made the top enjoyable.

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.
