I checked out this place with my partner after seeing some appealing content on Instagram. We both love contrast hydrotherapy and were excited to try Plunj. For context, we both had stressful work weeks and were desperately craving some relaxation and self care.
The good:
-Very clean facility
-Loved the robes in the ladies locker room. It was nice to wear after the final cold plunge as well as in the hallway so I didn't feel exposed.
-The treatment room has paper cups and water so you can stay hydrated. I had forgotten my water bottle so I was really happy with this thoughtful touch.
-We were offered cold towels in the sauna about halfway through our second cycle. Those were refreshing. They smelled like eucalyptus oil which I liked, but for highly sensitive people, know in advance that aromatherapy is part of the experience at this facility.
Opportunities for improvement. These are all related to the atmosphere/vibe which made it very difficult to relax.
-The lighting felt off anywhere. Instead of dim, soft lighting, the place was lit like the custodial staff was about to come for a deep clean. This may have been a fluke during my visit (other posts online suggest a more relaxing atmosphere), but I really wanted to turn the lights off/down in the plunj room and in the hallway.
-I was in room 1 which did not seem to have window coverings. The windows look out at the parking lot and the main road, so from the sauna and the cold plunge you have a view of fast moving cars and people walking right past the window to the other businesses. Since my nervous system was already revved up, I found this busy-ness to be very irritating.
-We were interrupted three times during the one hour session by the very helpful, but unneeded, staff member. She was lovely, but I found myself being unable to relax because she was always there. The first time was less than ten minutes into the session where we were pitched the membership plan. I do not want to be marketed to when I'm trying to relax. When she wasn't in the room, she was back and forth in the hallway and cleaning the glass door to the room. I almost felt like we were being supervised.
I think this is a good place for people who want a lot of attention, but it wasn't for me. I prefer the other contrast spa in town for the peaceful atmosphere and the ability to relax without interruptions. read more
