I went to Carmax on a Monday after work, without an appointment, and they were able to see me right away. Since the quote started online, it was an easy process to get registered by scanning a barcode and answering a few questions at the window. Once they test drove the car, the quote was the same. I was then given a list of instructions for my Tesla to reset it to its original factory settings. Please note that you have to do all the steps, even the step for the associate. Once that was done, I was brought over to talk to one of reps who presented the paperwork to sign. It was minimal and the explanation was clear. My balance due at the bank will be handled by Carmax and I was given the remainder of the profit via check. The process was pretty seamless! I'd definitely come back again if I have to sell my car.

Despite this, CarMax Kearny Mesa has been a logistical nightmare. I live in Carlsbad, and after making multiple trips down there (a 45-80 minute haul each way), their 'solution' to a minor insurance delay was to send me an automated Salesforce threat stating they would release the car if I didn't show up for a third time on Monday. Maria is 'off' on Monday, and management is apparently content letting a bot handle their business. They are willing to blow up a guaranteed, funded deal over a 48-hour administrative window. If you want to be treated like a person--especially if you've done the work to prove you're a serious buyer--go literally anywhere else. This isn't 'Express' service; it's a 'computer-says-no' bureaucracy that doesn't care about your time, your commute, or your business.

Just the catalytic converters, rims and cooling system runs up higher than 1000. Wheelzy is a better company and they don't play around with there prices and try and change it last minute. This thing had a broken steering wheel, a cracking hole in the roof, and a totally stripped paint job from multiple years at the beach -- and that just barely scratches the surface. The only thing worth a damn on my car was the engine, which had been replaced by the dealer during a recall 35,000 miles ago. I called up Cash For Cars from my office. They had someone out to my parking lot the same day, who shot me straight and paid me in cash that day. They couldn't have made it any easier, and they even saved me some additional money with the way they performed the transfer. If you have a car that's just not worth enough to list and sell privately, call up Cash For Cars. I won't need to use them anytime soon, but I definitely would again.
