PNW Fitness is a huge gym in the center of Capitol Hill's Broadway shopping and restaurant district with lots of great equipment and a very friendly, knowledgeable staff. After over a decade of friendly, welcoming staff, the current staff leaves much to be desired. The person at the desk has been on her phone, not even looking up, when I check in. The elevator to the gym on the second floor is out of service, and the person at the desk was unwilling to do anything other than laugh and say it wasn't her problem. I'm ready to go elsewhere if they don't get their act together soon. read more

Not worth the price. They basically canceled all their group classes, and then decide to raise their prices. The pluming never works, the urinal in the men's room has been out of order for months, the stalls are constantly closed for repair, and the bathroom sink wasn't working for months. Also, they didn't notify me when they recently increased their membership costs. I didn't find out until I was billed. The person at the front desk said that they had sent out letters/emails, which isn't true, I didn't receive any communications. There was an inconspicuous sign posted at the front desk which you wouldn't notice unless it was pointed out to you. Not good enough. Other people I've spoken to also said they did not receive any notice about a price increase. There are better gyms that charge less and have more to offer. I'll be canceling my membership and going somewhere else. Two stars for the convenient location. read more

I am writing this review because I am a member of this gym who is tired of dealing with broken equipment and broken plumbing. Call a d*** plumber! What is wrong with you? Plumbing broken for months -- are you kidding me? No excuses. Broken equipment I can understand - maybe there isn't a new machine available. But the machine in this photo has been broken since around September or August of 2022. It is now just about February 2023. Again, this needs to be fixed. No excuses. Get your act together. I will update this review if these issues are fixed, but as of now, unless this is the only gym in your area and you don't have a car, I would advise you to go elsewhere. read more

I've been working out with two friends who wanted to start lifting. They knew nothing so I offered to work out with them. They'd tag along and do my exercise routine with me for months. After the winter holidays as we were leaving the club after our workout, we were stopped by a woman named Erin who said she worked in the back office. She said that a personal trainer on staff had accused us of using the gym for personal training. She then threatened to cancel our gym memberships if this did not stop. I asked her to clarify what she meant by "personal training" because my friends and I workout together and have done so for months. She said that personal training was working out with coaching. I pressed for more clarification because I was still confused. She didn't offer much more that was helpful except to say, "it's pretty black and white." She also called the fitness manager Dave "obnoxious." Talk about professionalism. I'm disappointed that PNW Fitness would allow an employee to approach their paying customers in such an unprofessional manner. First, Erin did not cite any gym policy or refer to our membership agreement during the discussion. Suspiciously, one of my friends was treated poorly by a trainer after he decided not to purchase personal training. As Erin couldn't define the prohibited activity, I am inclined to believe that the complaint that started this was motivated by the trainer my friend decided not to hire. Second, she did not provide any written documentation describing the alleged infraction(s). So I reached out to Rafael, the club's manager of operations. At first he was helpful, and said he'd request a statement from the accusing trainer and discuss the incident with the personal training team. He also said that someone from their corporate office would reach out to me. That was over a month and a half ago. I have received no contact from anyone at PNW Fitness since. I've reviewed the membership agreement and it's a complete joke. It says, "Personal Training. Member and/or Member's guest will not perform or receive any personalized training with any other members or non-members." With that vague language, anyone offering to spot a friend or suggest an exercise could be kicked out. Also, the member agreement prohibits cell phone usage on the gym floor and just about half of everyone there is on their phone all the time. In the time since this incident, I've heard a trainer say the F-word loudly twice on the gym floor, I've seen a trainer in plainclothes clearly training their friend on the bench press, and I've seen multiple members teaching their friends exercises, which would also be in violation of the member agreement. I do not recommend PNW Fitness because they choose if and when to enforce their rules. When a member complains about what they believe is unfair, no follow up. read more

I go here and like it well enough. I wish there were a Sauna. It's clean and well-managed. There aren't enough classes but overall I'm satisfied. What I don't like is most of the gym smells like grocery store Fried Chicken. It wafts up from the QFC that its directly on top of. Almost like the exaust from the chicken fryer empties right into the gym. Geez. it's gross. I hate smelling food when I'm trying to get my fat ass to work out. Contract Violations You give them your credit card info, they'll charge whatever they want... I emailed/forwarded my original contract and asked them politely if they could honor it... Their respond? They just cancelled my membership. They lie and say it's in the terms of your contract (that's why I forwarded my contract and asked them to point out where) They lie and say they posted a memo on the front desk... if that's true, why didn't didn't they train their staff to point it out... because the memo is not dated and only appeared after people raised concerns of contract violations... I liked it just fine before, a little expensive for what you get without amenities but it was worth the convenience to where I live. Today, without an email or letter saying rates were changing, I see a $97 charge on my credit card! If you're going to change rates you need to let people know when and how much so they can make the decision if it's worth staying and to budget accordingly. Be careful of the scam. I was visiting in town for a month and I did the one month Groupon deal. I confirmed TWICE with the employee that there would be no recurring charges, but still got billed for a second month. I contacted them regarding the surprise charge and was kicked to ABC fitness the account management. In response to the owner's reply on Google reviews, the very first thing I told your sales was that I was visiting. None of them informed me about the Groupon deal applies to local residents only. They simply processed it and told me it's a one time payment with no reoccurring charges, while in fact I got charged for a second month without any notice. Stop blaming the customers when you do not clearly state rules and give out completely FALSE informations. read more

This place is awesome. The random low ratings on here seem to all be from people who've never actually used the gym. As a local resident, this has become my go to gym. Much better than pricey group classes like Orangetheory. The trainers are knowledgeable and the gym goers are polite, friendly and positive. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a gym. The Gym itself is great! It's very clean, there's a kind community there and a plethora of equipment to use. The pay process is what brought the rating down for me. I went to put my account on pause for a little while and learned that PNW Fitness doesn't deal with the financial side, an external company called ABC Fitness Solutions from Redmond does; which I believe results in some communication problems. The frozen fee advertised to me was $10 a month; but after a month of being frozen, the 3rd party claimed I owed $72 (which included unknown service fees, as per an ABC Team Member). I spoke with them a little bit, but I decided to withdraw completely from this gym after this interaction. Other than the Financial Org, this Gym is really solid. read more

I've been going to PNW Fitness for about 6 months now and I couldn't have been happier with a gym. I will say, when it's busy-it's busy. It's really hard to get a squat racks between the hours of 630-930 am and 430-8 pm so I've had to get creative with dumbells. Everyone is super friendly and there's a lot of trainers around if you have any questions. The locker room/restrooms are clean and the machines are taken care of regularly. I will say the biggest benefit of the gym is all the classes they have available for you throughout the day. The spin classes are awesome and am looking forward to trying out the yoga class! read more

Visited today after being a member at the former Gold's gym downtown. I'm impressed by the amount of new equipment they have recently added. Definitely can tell they are investing in growth. From stepping in the door, they made a great impression on the customer service component. The employee that checked me took a break from his meal to show me around the facility when he observed it was my first visit. Nice touch, as I didn't ask, he simply said "Welcome! Let me show you around." If you are into lifting, they have pretty much all you ever need. Cardio also seems ample, but I wasn't there prime time after work rush hour, so it may be different then. Good selection of fitness drinks and supplements. Only major observed cons are they still could use more heavy dumbbell sets and 45 pound+ plates. Was stuck waiting for long periods for a 20 pound range consisting of 4 different sets of dumbbells. Three of which never made it back to the rack during my visit. If you are a member and haven't been recently, sounds like you should check out the improvements. If you lift heavy and off-hours, I'd definitely recommend this gym. read more

I called today to get pricing for a new membership. The person who answered said that there was not a sales person in until 8:30 and that she would have him call me once he was in. I have not received this call and after reading some other reviews on yelp it seems like this may be a norm for this establishment. I find it weird that a person who is responsible for answering phones is not able provide potential customers with a base starting price even if memberships do vary. I have never called a gym before and gotten this type of response where someone would have to call me back in order for me to find out a membership price. read more

What a nice gym! I remember swinging by a few years ago while this place was still Gold's Gym. The only thing different really is the name now. The equipment is all the same and the staff are friendly as always. The staff definitely want to foster a great community here. As a powerlifter, my only complaint is the lack of squat racks and space for deadlifts. It's always fun walking around to see what new equipment I haven't used yet, though. If you're looking for a new gym to go to, check out their Groupon deal! I think it's slowly increasing as years go by, but ~15$ for a month trial membership is FANTASTIC! Only slight issue is parking. The gym will validate an hour but only during certain business hours. I suppose you could just use the 1 hour free QFC parking and get some shopping done too! read more

I'm looking for a new gym and tried to visit for the free week trial. The person working the front desk was typically passive aggressive: involved In some sort of personal conversation with someone else, then finally remembering that his job was to help people, asking if I lived locally, and not visiting. Then asked me to wait an indeterminate amount of time for someone to be free to show me around. I didn't think it would be this hard to simply find a place that actually wants my business to exercise.... Also having someone in a sleeveless muscle shirt and a backwards baseball cap, with no indication that he works there, probably isn't the most effective desk staff. read more

It's a pretty typical clean gym with the rare quality of having 4 squat racks. I work out here almost every day and it has almost everything you need, but for the price it's a little small and I would only recommend it if you live close by and can walk to it. (Plus it's above a qfc) If you are considering it, you should definitely get a tour and sign up in person. read more

I recently took a year off from this gym to try out a 'boutique' gym in the area. I've recently started coming back and noticed they had some new Cycle classes. Instantly loved the Cycle Chaos classes as they are at the same intense level of the classes I had done at a much more expensive gym. Love the mix of off-the-bike full body strength training with spin. Coach Aaron and Coach John are the sweetest. They will even REFILL YOUR WATER BOTTLE FOR YOU in the middle of class. They also offer towels and gloves as well. That's boutique gym level service/intensity at a normal gym price. You will be dead by the end of the hour class. It's awesome. I really hope the gym expands this class to more days and times (would love to see these classes offered earlier than 7pm) as they are getting quite popular. read more

Thank you for having the 7-day class pass - I'm grateful to have been able to take advantage of this. I came here for a 7-day trial period to check out the gym in the area (mainly to up my cardio in the wintry cold months). This gym was well-kept. There are lots of good looking individuals whom you can check out, and inspire you to work harder to get in the same shape as they. When I registered, one of the workers sat down with me to talk about my goals, where I was at in terms of reaching my goals, made small talk (where he asked where I lived, what I do, how did I like Seattle). I understand that it was part of the process to introduce new members to the gym and how it works. It was definitely long-winded -more than I would like. Two days later, I received an email from the same guy who asked me to come in to check out the gym. Initiation cost at this time is: $250 plus $80 per month. I've been going to PNW fitness since October of 2021 and I absolutely love it. I didn't think my experience could be better until I started training with Eddie! He is the literal best. Our training sessions are difficult but he is so good at explaining how to do the exercises and how the exercises are helping my athletic ability. While I of course am after some aesthetic physical changes, I feel so much stronger and best of all, I feel so confident in the gym! I can take the exercises that Eddie shows me and apply them in my own work outs and I feel so confident that I'm doing them correctly. PNW's business practices are unethical at best, fraudulent at worst. And there are many pieces to the puzzle. 1, They advertise a non-existent free trial; 2, they minimize your concerns whenever money issues come up; 3, they make it extremely difficult to cancel due to a hard-to-reach third party account management company. And the list goes on and on and on. If you ever have to deal with customer service, rest assured, you'll find yourself feeling as if you're merely a dollar sign to these people. And by the way, the majority of the reviews, on YELP, that point to this problem have somehow been embedded into, and hidden behind, a link called "not recommended customer reviews." PNW Fitness is an awesome neighborhood gym! My partner and I moved to Seattle in June 2018, and immediately went to PNW fitness on Broadway to sign up. The process was relatively quick and painless, but then again, we also already knew what we wanted to sign up for (1 year prepaid). Be warned, the signup process includes your normal dose of upsales, training packages, etc. Just go through it, have an open mind, and sign up for what feels good to you! Unlike a downtown gym, neighborhood gyms tend to have a more constant stream of gym-goers with a couple peak times. We tend to avoid epic peak times, and we're NEVER inundated with too many people. We're lucky to be able to do this, for sure. The front desk staff is awesome. Brandy and Rafael are friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. The trainers seem like they know what they're doing, though I have not trained with anyone yet. In addition, they have a really healthy class schedule - our favorite right now is Monica's cycling class on Tuesdays at 10:30am. Monica delivers a high-intensity spin class with great music, great vibes, and lots of sweat! The equipment feels new, and is well-maintained. I use almost every piece of equipment at the gym, save for the isolation machines. Freeweights, squat racks, benches, cable machines, and deadlift area are all well organized and well maintained. If I had to complain about something, it would be the really good looking, fit people who come to this gym. Admittedly, it can be a little distracting from a purely human nature perspective ;). It could be worse. All in all, a great gym. (To those complaining about crowds: you need to stop going to the gym during rush hour - and if you have no choice, suck it up. Definitely one of the better and most reasonably priced gyms in Seattle! It does get pretty crowded during peak hours but you can still use the equipment or station you want to work out at if you have a little patience. It's also pretty clean and well maintained. One of the things the I love the most about this gym is that most people here actually DO re-rack their weights after they're done with them! That was a huge pet peeve of mine when I was living back east in the NYC area where dumbbells would be scattered all over the gym! And most people here are also pretty good about using wipes to clean up the station they just worked out at! UNHEARD of back east! Hell they didn't even have wipes to use for clean up! If you don't have to come here during rush hour I'm 100% certain you'll find its a great gym to frequent. I've never had a problem with over crowding and sometimes I get to the gym around 5pm after work and 9-10am on weekdays. Weekends it seems like everyone gets their gym out of the way fairly early too. It's in a great location, the monthly price is decent and the grocery store being right there is quite nice. The machines are well maintained and there's enough variety that your probably not going to run out of the ability to switch it up. My only gripe / complaint is that on top of the quite large sign up fee (first month, last month and a 100$ sign-up fee) there's an "annual fee" of 54$ per membership. Within the first two months my wife and I dropped a pretty penny for memberships ($800). I'm not sure what the extra 108$ is for ? read more

I have been going to this gym for 8 YEARS! There is such a great variety of equipment, plenty of space, but even better, AMAZING group classes. I feel that it is common for gyms to offer the basic classes, but PNW Fitness takes it ABOVE AND BEYOND. The Cycle Mayhem and Cycle Chaos classes are easily my favorites. CYCLE MAYHEM is a pure hour of buttkicking on the bike. It is a HIT workout where the coaches actually implement techniques into the ride that are relative to street riding. They do all of this to the beat of some form of rock/punk/bass music on an amazing sounds system, and with party lights. It's fun, and it is a killer workout. CYCLE CHAOS is Coach John and Aaron's newest class. It is also an hour, but implements both HIT bike rides as well as off the bike HIT resistant band, plyometrics, bodyweight and strength workouts. It is truly a full body, sweat dripping class. Again, great music, and such a fun and welcoming environment! They tailor their classes to each persons ability, and are VERY in tune with each participants form. They aren't just there to teach, they care about safety, individual improvements and do a great job HYPING up the class. Other classes I suggest - Monica's Saturday morning full body workout and Les Mills GRIT. read more

The ONLY large and relatively inexpensive gym on the hill. Clean and maintained. Friendly staff. So many machines there isn't room to work out unless you're sitting on it. Don't even think about standing in a corner and curling or doing air squats, you're in SOMEBODY'S private bubble wherever you are, due to lack of space. There just isn't enough square footage here, especially since the downtown location was torn down. The crowding is so bad I DAILY consider switching to the local 24 Hr fitness, but so far have refrained simply because that gym is next to the freeway onramp, and I don't feel like crawling in traffic for forty-five minutes to go a block and a half. Pretty soon, though, the crowding at this PNW fitness may just drive me away anyway. The torn vinyl on the quad extension machine hasn't been repaired, even after two months, the tear just gets worse and worse. The buckle on the seated upright decline press closest to the entrance has been broken for three months or more, I just tie it around my waist like a bow now. Machines and benches that aren't working are "under maintenance" for up to a week or more sometimes, even when that machine/bench is the only one in the gym. I'm all for improvisation, but sometimes folks rely on those things. Do they have to put in a work order for a repair and wait? Dunno, but it's annoying. Two of the bulbs in the tanning booth have been burned out for over a year. I'm here because parking is cheap, grocery store's right below, the gym is...okay...and there are no better options. Plus this is where every other gay guy is, so there's the social aspect, too, but I'm thoroughly over the lack of options on the ---Update--- Gym manager called me after reading this review, had the maintenance tech talk to me and direct him where the issues were, and said tech was working on it when we hung up. I love this gym! I was new to Seattle and the staff made me feel like I have a community here. They really create a nice environment. Lots of gym equipment for all different kinds of fitness practices, plenty of space to workout and good camaraderie. I haven't tried the classes yet but they offer a good variety. If you're looking for a personal trainer: I recommend Eddy Woodhouse. He is knowledgable, produces results, and is very fun to work with. read more

I've been a member at PNW Fitness and love this gym. The pricing is straightforward and quite cheap, especially for such a large gym in Capitol Hill. There's all manner of equipment to suit any training style, and pre-covid, there was a huge variety of group training classes (spinning, pilates, Les Mills) included for free with the membership and taught by enthusiastic instructors. The gym is clean, well ventilated, rarely crowded, and well maintained, and the staff is friendly and professional. There's also access to excellent personal trainers. I work with Brandon, which has been a great experience. He's extremely knowledgeable and encouraging, listens to my training goals, and builds fun and challenging workouts to push me towards those goals. He carefully watches my form on every exercise and adjusts my workout if anything feels off, all to make sure I don't get injured. Training with Brandon is taking my fitness to a new level, and I would highly recommend working with him. read more
