The trail is lined with a bunch of trees and continually crossed by a bunch of streams and rivers flowing from the Delaware Water Gap. The Buttermilk Falls are definitely a must see and with half of it frozen, it definitely gave me some white walker vibes. Overall the hike is pretty easy and scenic throughout so I'd definitely recommend (although I'd definitely check weather and road conditions before going).

It's easy to moderate (there are stairs) and well shaded by trees. There's also a historic ruin of what was once a wool mill. There was ample parking, and it was not crowded during a summer week day. This review is specifically for the Mount Minsi Loop Trail. There is also a lookout point you can drive/easily park at a few minutes away. The small parking lots here fill up quickly, but if you can snag a spot it is worth the visit. There is a small trail around Lenape Lake; the fall colors around the lake are beautiful. There is also a picnic table near the lake. This area is part of the Appalachian Trail making it a great spot for hikers and nature lovers alike. You do not need to be an avid hiker to enjoy the easy trail here. There are no restrooms facilities here and parking is very limited.

It's a two hour drive from Long Island and 3.5 hours when there's a fire that's closed down the Throgs Neck Bridge. But this lake, also near Blue Mountain Lake is amazing. A few years back you would have been hard pressed to find anyone else there but on a hot Saturday in summer, there were about 30 people and some families picnicing, lounging and boozing by the water. The water was warm and almost everyone was a local who had their own kayaks, rafts and floatation devices. We traded beers for rafts and sat in the middle of the lake for at least an hour. The park closes at 10pm but most people leave around sun down so if you bring music, BUG SPRAY, a lantern and flashlights, and the game Apples to Apples you can have yourself a private lake side party undisturbed from 8 - 10p. Downsides: It costs so much money to go over bridges now from NY to NJ make sure to borrow mom or dad's EZ Pass! DAMN! Again, bring bug spray. My legs are itchy, itchy, itchy now. WARNING: It is very easy to get lost coming to this lake. Your GPS may not know what you're talking about because it's hard to enter a town name for the location in Jersey. Here's how to get there (you can thank me later - just don't tell a lot of people) Take 80 to Exit 1 - the entrance of the delaware water gap rec. area. Ask for a map w/ the person at the visitor's entrance but basically you're looking for a general store that leads you down a windy road (past blue mountain lake) and veer left at the rocky path at the end of the road. There really aren't any signs so getting a map and coming in from Exit 1 is your best bet. ALSO BE CAREFUL if you get lost and someone points you to CRANDon lake. This is Crater Lake and that's what you're looking for. My friend got very lost because of his bad hearing.

You get a pretty good cardio workout as you traverse across the rock scrambles. It's a somewhat strenuous hike. For an easier time, go up the Red Dot trail and come down the Blue Dot trail. It's a loop! If you're looking for a less strenuous hike, you can go up and down the Blue Dot trail, but you'll miss a good view on the Red Dot trail. The Red Dot trail has an amazing view of the Delaware Water Gap and Mt Minsi. As you go further up, you'll reach the high point. Going down the Blue Dot trail, you'll eventually come across beautiful waterfalls and hike right by the river. Absolutely gorgeous! Don't forget to bring plenty of water!

I thought this trail would be overridden by tourists and post Covid new hikers but I was shocked it wasn't crowded - went on black friday, maybe everyone was shopping and it was a little chilly. After thorough research, best route up is by taking the red trail and taking the blue trail back. The red trail up to the top is all rock scrambling, constant climbing up rocks till you get to the top. The blue trail back is not as much scrambling and a gradual decline down rather than a straight up climb. I can't imagine taking the red trail down, it would take longer and is definitely harder. There are multiple parking lots so beware of where you park though the lots are close by walking distance. McDonald's is 7 minutes away without traffic so that can be a great incentive to come, grab grub right after. When I finished hike around 1, parking lot was quite full.

The park closes at 5 PM, so we missed the opportunity to hike out and see the waterfalls themselves. That was definitely disappointing, but honestly, the time we were able to spend walking around the grounds was still absolutely amazing. The entire property is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. There is so much natural scenery, beautiful trees, trails, and gorgeous surroundings that you can really appreciate the beauty of the area just by walking around. It was a great place to slow down, enjoy nature, take some pictures, and just take in the scenery. You can tell there is a lot to explore, and we definitely didn't get to experience everything during our visit. Even though we missed the main attraction this time, we left excited to come back rather than disappointed. We are definitely planning another visit, and next time we'll make sure to get there much earlier so we have plenty of time to explore the trails and finally see the famous waterfalls. Bushkill Falls is definitely going back on our list of places to visit. The grounds alone were beautiful enough to make the trip worthwhile, and I can only imagine how incredible the falls and hiking trails are when you have enough time to experience everything. If you're visiting the Poconos or traveling through Pennsylvania, this is definitely a place worth putting on your list. Just make sure you arrive early enough to enjoy everything! There are 3-4 different loops and based on the time you have you can choose one path .. yellow loops are average difficulty .. it does have some path which is a little steep steps, but not difficult for middle age people.. might be a little stressful for elderly people with knee pain issues.. there is also a red loop which is a lot more of Walk and takes more time.. there are maps showing each path and approximate distance.. parking is a bit crazy, especially near the entrance.. parking is free.. tickets are about $21 which isn't too bad . Liked it overall .

We stayed two nights over a weekend and I felt like I had a great little vacation! Highly recommended if you're looking for a nearby gorgeous spot for nature anytime of the year! Hello Yelp World! This is my first review, not for a restaurant, but for this spectacular hike up…read moreMount Tammany at Worthington State Forest. So I've picked up hiking the last few years because not only is it great exercise and you get to enjoy awesome views but it's free, unless you count the cost of getting there. My first attempt at hiking here was denied several weeks ago when I came on a Sunday at 10am, huge mistake! Because of the pandemic, only the Kittatinny Point Visitor Center lot is open, and by this time on a weekend the parking lot was packed to the gills. So do yourself a favor and either avoid coming here late, or not come at all on a weekend, otherwise the park ranger will turn you away if the lot is full. Today I got here at 9am. Score!!! Only a half-dozen cars were parked here on this Monday morning. Follow the signs to the beginning of the red dot trail, which is located on the west side of Route 80, to begin this challenging hike. There are other trails at Mount Tammany but the red-blue trail seems to most popular. Be warned, the trail is quite steep and will involve a lot of rock scrambles. I will admit my teenage son was flying up the mountain while I was taking it slow and gasping for air, haha! So if you haven't twisted an ankle or got bit by a rattlesnake or copperhead - yes, there is a signpost warning about the snakes, but I didn't see any - you will come upon two overlooks with beautiful views of Mt. Minsi and the Delaware Water Gap. The first viewpoint is about three-quarters of the way up the red trail and the other one is at the summit. You should definitely scramble down the rocks a bit if you're comfortable with it to get much better vistas. After taking in the views and catching your breath you will continue along the red dot trail which will connect you with the blue dot trail. Follow the blue trail to descend the mountain. While not as steep coming down, there are still lots of loose rocks that you need to be wary of. As you near the end of your hike on the blue dot trail, you are rewarded once again with a beautiful little waterfall. Hikers were wading in the stream here to cool off, but I took a pass. Once you've finished taking your pictures here, cross the bridge and continue on the white trail, which is actually part of the Appalachian Trail, and you will end up back at the beginning of the red dot trail where you began. You can now go back under the underpass to head back to your car at the visitor center.

So happy we stood here! Long story short, my group arrived at dingmans just before sunset after…read moreleaving rivers-bend campsite because it seemed desolate and too remote for my friends and I. While we wanted space, we also didn't want to be the only campers for miles. We decided to go to dingmans campground in hopes that they would have a space available for my group. The two young ladies at the front desk of the office were so welcoming, kind, and accommodating. They had a few spots open (the campground is huge) we stood at lot 79.. which was a short walk to the river and close to two separate bathe houses. The campsites are decently spaced from each other, but I do advise you ask employees which lots have more space in between them, because some are more private then others. Most importantly the bathrooms and showers were kept clean, were moderately new, and always had toilet paper and hand soap. Alcohol is prohibited, the site is dog friendly, located an hour and a half from NYC, and surrounded by trails and and water activities. Only negative was that the river was closed from swimming because of high levels of bacteria as a result of the storm that the north east got hit by a couple days prior to our stay, which is not the fault of the campground. We plan on going back once more before the end of summer :)

We really liked it the last time and were excited to come back…read more First, they have an excellent camp store, entrance area, beautiful well spaced sites, river access and great services, like wood delivery. All those parts are fantastic. There were a few cons. First, there is zero cell service at the park. While I know it's not the camps fault, it makes communication very difficult. The store/check-in area has Wi-Fi, which causes people to congregate there and clutters up parking, etc. A few nicely placed Wi-Fi zones would really help. There are not enough bathrooms overall. The folks in the no amenity areas need a functioning bathroom. The Porta pot is disgustingly, so they walk to one of two bathrooms. There are 3 toilets and 2 shower stalls, per gender. This is not enough for all the use. This was evidenced this weekend as the septic system filled and the restrooms was closed from 6pm Sat until 7:30 am Sun when the poop truck showed up to pump it out. There is nothing like being woken up by a poop truck running next to your tent listening to the pump. Everyone has the right to use the bathroom however there are just not enough functioning facilities for the value of people in all the sites Finally, my group of 8 reserved 3 sites. We all spaced out and followed quiet times. The 2 groups surrounding us must have had 6 tents each on their sites. Their kids were unattended, playing badminton on the roads, football in the sites and up till 11:30 yelling and blasting music. No one cared. Because there's no Internet, it was like a parade of cars and headlights throughout the night for people to go up to the office. You knew this was happening because they had to yell at everyone in their site that they were going up to the office to use the Internet quick. I think this camp has so much potential. If they could just make some of these improvements, it would be a complete game changer. Beautiful camp, excellent hosts around the office, but just needs a little more attention in some of the more 'necessary' areas.

SHOTWELL -- I camped at a lean-to at Showell camp grounds. The shelter was great, had plenty of…read morespace for my queen sized bed and my double seater folding chair. I used my small portable generator for power/lights. Wood purchased at the ranger station seemed to burn better than any wood I found around the campsite so I used purchased wood to start camp fires then used wood found around camp. What I didn't like was the shower facilities are at another camp entirely, Lake Ocquittunk, and that kind of sucked especially when I went looking for it at night. It's about 6 miles away but it gave me the opportunity to pull off at the gas station for some snacks, still it's location is super inconvenient. This place is great for winter camping and although the shelters are relatively close to each other, it's so cold that nobody is out bothering anyone. I plan on visiting this place in the summer to see how the tent sites are but I'll bring a portable toilet since the bath rooms are relatively far from the better more private camp sites.
