Have been here a couple of time and have loved it. This is a great state park with tons to do. They have great camping, both tent and RV/trailer, Great Lakes to fish/kayak/boat on and awesome, well makes hiking trails. The campsites and restrooms are well maintained. All of my interactions with the park rangers have been fantastic. This is an easy drive off I-84 and the signage to get around is great. Definitely a place to hit if you are looking for a getaway. read more

First off -they need better signage for the campground. We did not know we were supposed to go to the park office. It looks like an office for the Department of Resources to use and says nothing about the campground on the main road. HUGE, private sites but they are short. Anything over 30' wouldn't fit on most of the sites. Well kept campground with fire pit, grill and picnic table. Level and wooded. Can definitely tell it was built when longer RV's were just a dream! We didn't get any pictures here because it rained the entire time we were there. Enjoyed the quiet! We camped here September 20-23, 2021. Site #329. We never had any contact with any of the staff here. The park office was closed both times we tried to visit. We did have contact with the camp host for having our dogs off leash while we got them out of the Jeep and in to the camper. I thought this was a little extreme especially since we were the only camper at that end of the campground and it was for less than a minute. Extreme. Highly Recommend if you are tent camping or less than 30 feet long. read more

The worst in the whole country. Tried to call several times to make a reservation and nobody picked up the phone so we drove to the place hoping they would have a free spot and arrived to the office and found two people in the office. We were charged a 6 dollar reservation fee even if we were walk ins with no reservation. Not worth for 38 dollars, we got to our site and it wasn't quite level but we managed. There was no water, for these people water means one spigot for everybody in the campground and it wasn't even working the next morning because temps dropped to 30 and the one spigot was frozen! If I had known I had no water in my site I would have filled my tank the afternoon I got here. It was only the middle of October so later in the fall it must be frozen permanently, good luck! Had to go out in the middle of the night 4 times to flip the switch to the 30 amp fuse. At the fourth time I got my 50 amp and reduced it to 30 and finally that fixed the problem. I have no electrical problems ever so it had to be the 30 amp fuse. Not coming back ever, regardless of the name, not even for one night read more

My husband and I came to Promised Land Lake to canoe. Neither of us had ever been to this lake, so we just followed our GPS and it took is right to where we needed to go. There were also signs around telling you where the beach and mooring area was, which was helpful and reassuring. We arrived at 9 am on a Saturday, and the joint was EMPTY AS HELL!!!! I think we saw two other people out on the entire lake the whole time we were there! It was crazy, but enjoyable for us. I was really happy we hadn't gone to another state park (like Ricketts Glen) because I know for a fact that those places would have been packed at that time. The thing about this lake that I didn't know going into our adventure is that the lake is FILLED WITH TREES!!! There are living, full-grown evergreen trees all in the water. It's freaky as hell, and I can't imagine for a second swimming in this lake with all the stuff right beneath the surface. For canoeing, it was fine. Well, let me revise that. There were two occasions when our canoe either ran over a giant tree stump or got caught on a tree stump and we had to use our oars to push off of it. The bottom of our canoe was scratched a bit, and you could hear the boat rolling over the tree branches throughout most of our trek. The other good thing about this lake is that you can only take electric motor boats onto the water (not gas). This keeps things quiet, so I'd imagine if you rented a house on the water, you'd really enjoy the serenity. read more

This is a great campground. The road on the campground is very narrow but we were able to navigate to our site. The sites are large once you get in. Our travel trailer is 32 feet long and our truck is 22 feet long. We are rv newbies and we were able to back in. The park is great to walk or hike. read more

Went here in the morning on an otherwise hot day. Was great! Nice little sandy area of the lake to play in. There was a roped off section in the water that slowly goes to 3 or 4 feet. It was perfect to take our toddler wading and kicking around in the water. There was plenty of parking for the size of the park, but I think the beach area was getting a little crowded when we left around lunch time. Bathrooms were really good for a park. They also had free cold showers and cheap warm showers. Looking forward to going again. read more

Must say I came up for the weekend and stayed locally with some family. I got on my foot path and checked out some local parts and decided to set off and do a jog route through the park which got me almost 7 miles and the views are amazing!!! I attached photos and just note it was a bit cold and restrooms were still open which I believe are open only during part hours. read more

This park is a must for anyone!!! Beautiful grounds and easy to get to. Spent an entire day with my two young children and my husband and loved every moment. The playground is great for kids of all ages. The concession stand has a great selection and is moderately priced. We brought a our own food but got some sweet treats which were well worth it. I recommend the funnel cake, which was massive. There is no entry fee and parking is vast and free as well. The beach is beautiful but does get packed as the day goes on. If you want a spot with picnic tables arrive early! They also allow grills of all kinds which is great for larger get togetherness. Worth the trip from anywhere! read more

Very nice state park -- huge sites are different in various locations some close together some more private with trees in between -- lots of places to tent and several cabins $40 for the night we have a 33 ft towable 50 amp hook up-- most sites on both sides are on the lake-- sites are not even graded stone -- we are transitioning southbound to Fla so this is a 1 night stop-- i could see staying here for a few days, hiking, biking, fishing, canoe/kayak-- not sure what is near by did not research as we only planned to stay 1 nite-- would definitely stay here again if on the route and possibly for a few days read more

We stopped for 1 night. Stayed @Beechwood #410. Perhaps other sections are different. The person who checked us in? It's like we were bothering him. Not the best way to greet visitors. *Moss on the parking pad so thick it's a slipping hazard. *Grass hadn't been mowed nor had any trees been trimmed. *Which leads me to my next point; the fire ring was directly under a low hanging tree. If it hadn't been raining I'd be leery of using it. *Crowded, small sites. 19' trailer with a car felt cramped. *Water? Good luck. 3 spigots for 100 camp sites. I'll boondock in a Walmart parking lot or highway rest area before I go back. read more

This past weekend was our second time camping in the park for a long weekend trip. The time before this was last October when the temperatures were a bit colder. Both of our stays there were fantastic. Last October we tent camped and this year we were in one of their cottages located in the Pickerel Point campground. This seems to be the place to be. After we checked in at the main office some random camper who was also checking in commented on how we were staying in Pickerel Point and how we were lucky. This part of the campground is kind of a peninsula in the lake. I imagine in the summer months every site is probably booked and this place is humming with activity. The bathrooms were super clean and the shower facilities were very clean as well, some of the cleanest I have ever experienced. We tried to go to the museum located in this campground but it was closed for the season. The beach at Pickerel Point is also nice and walking distance from anywhere in this specific campground. Last year we camped in a different campground since Pickerel Point was closed for the season. There are many hikes available for different levels which is also nice. For anyone that cares about cell phone service, (I don't because I want to disconnect while camping) the service is spotty/non existent for AT&T. My husband has Verizon and got some service depending on where we were in the park. Beautiful park. We had an excellent time and will definitely be back next year with more family! read more

This has been a favorite of our family and some others that we know for many years. It is actually two lakes connected by a non-navigable creek - the main lake has a large day-use beach with some concessions, a boat rental, and waterfront camping at Pickerel Point campground (our favorite). Non-waterfront campsites are also nearby both lakes. Pickerel was closed for renovations for a few years, but is now back. It used to be a 'rustic' campground - no electric hookups and some rather odoriferous pit toilets. The renovations changed all that - brand new flush toilets, dish washing facilities, and hookups for the RV set. The RV sites are closest to the road (but a short walk to the water), while most of the waterfront sites are reserved for tent camping and do not have any hookups. I was concerned about this change (we are tent campers), but found that having the RV's keeps the sites occupied during the week, which is actually sort of nice. And we were not bothered by noise from them at all. There is a small beach at the end of Pickerel Point, and the water there never gets deeper than four feet, which makes it more relaxing for parents of young children. It is easy walking distance to the bathroom, but has no concessions. Pets are now also allowed at certain sites throughout the park. Lower Lake is more rustic and mostly used for fishing. There is a beautiful waterfall next to the lower lake, only about a 1/2 mile hike along the creek from the parking lot near the dam at the end of the lake. There are a few rental cabins, and lots of private cabins in the park. There is a road that circles the lake, which is great for casual bike riders (gentle grades, little traffic, great views). Along part of that road is a tiny town with a general store that carries all the usual supplies, including bait and some fishing gear. Overall this is a great retreat, just far away enough from the city to feel like a destination. The elevation is about 1800 feet, so nights can get chilly and mountain weather rules. read more

Terrible service. Each year DCNR employees seem to be totally surprised that customers will be arriving for Memorial Day weekend. Grass is uncut and VERY high. Asked employee to cut the lot - he replied that he doesn't have time. We cut our OWN grass. Should give the Pa. state park a bill for my time maintaining their campground. Pretty big park and quite scenic lake. It took much longer to row across the lake, than anticipated. There is a whirlwind spot in the middle which can be a little bit of a nuisance to navigate your way out lol. We stayed the weekend of July 22-25 in the Northwoods Area #446, Lower Lake Campgrounds. While the campsites were nice, and the restrooms and showers were clean, the rules were very strict. The camp host, who is on #451, yelled at us a few times for being loud. According to this camp host, quiet time is 9pm to 8am. The camp host made her rounds yelling and reprimanding the campers in the area. Since this was summer time, and daylight was pretty much close to 9pm, it was impossible to do anything after 9pm that wouldn't inconvenience the camp host. When it was dark, we had to stay very quiet around the camp fire. We were so scared to laugh or even talk at a normal volume at the fear of getting the camp host mad. And in the morning, the camp host yelled at us because one of the kids was up early and woke her up. We go camping every year and this is the worst experience we've had as a family. The camp rules are just too strict and the camp host is really just unkind and mean that made our yearly family camping trip a really bad experience. This campsite really need to have better camp hosts who can relate to younger generations and younger families and can understand that people are just enjoying their time with family and friends. Never going back here again. read more

Spent labor weekend there we arrive Saturday at noon and left Monday afternoon and it was beautiful. there are so many things to do there, the camping places are very spacious and clean, the bathrooms are wonderful and very close to the campsites; the showers are clean and super hot water. they have a laundromat, they have a dishwashing sink. Everything is very close to it. the staff is very friendly the park rangers are very professionals and the rates are very economic. We paid $70 for two nights but is very worth it. The park is extremely well maintained. Drove a couple of minutes to the lake beach. And we rented row boats for $35 for 70 minutes. They also have pedaling boats,motor boats and not 100% sure if they rent kayaks as well but there sure were many kayaking in the lake. We saw the famous or infamous water snakes although i was scared its was an unforgettable experience. On our way back to the camp site from the lake we saw a mama bear and her twin cubs. PLEASE GO THERE. it is certainly amazing and beautiful. read more

Promised Land State Park is in Pike County, 10 miles north of Canadensis, along PA 390. The park is easily reached from interstates 80 and 84. The park is within a one to three hour drive from Allentown, Easton, Bethlehem, Reading, Harrisburg, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, and is about 100 miles north of Philadelphia and 35 miles from the New York and New Jersey state borders. There are two sand beaches that are open from late-May to mid-September, 8 a.m. to sunset. The Main Beach is in the Picnic Area. The Pickerel Point Beach is on the end of Pickerel Point. Swim at your own risk. Please read and follow posted rules for swimming. If you get hungry, there is a food concession offers numerous items including pizza, hotdogs, hamburgers, pierogies, nachos, pretzels, French fries, chicken nuggets, soda, candy, and ice cream. This is a review of Deerfield campsite only. I picked a tent site there at random online. I chose poorly, as we learned when we arrived and saw how bad site 208 was. It was very small and open to the world, with only a sloping, stone-covered plot for our tent. No privacy. Avoid site 208. If I can help even one person to not get stuck there, I've done my job. Several sites in the back of the loop were nice, with trees partially blocking them, and a lot more space, with grassy ground for the tent. Not wanting to be stuck with site 208, I made a list of better sites and drove back to the office. The ranger barely acknowledged me as he checked availability, and walked off without a word a couple times to do something else. In the end, only one site I asked about was open for 2 nights. Site 223. And it was barely better than 208. Bright sun shone through gaps in the trees and fried us as we tried to cook. We were still pretty open to everyone who passed, but there was a recessed grassy area for the tent. The bathrooms at Deerfield were nice. Showers were nice, BUT they were a long walk away, in Pickerel Point campsite. Dogs are allowed in Deerfield, and we had ours. No problems with other dogs or late-night howling, but you never know what you'll get. We hiked around Conservation Island, and it was a nice trail, with plenty of waterside benches. We tried Bear Wallow Trail, but it was not that great. Little Falls trail was very nice. We swam at the main beach. Very rocky sand made it hard to stand and walk in the water. But it was pleasant enough, despite goose crap everywhere. read more

A few Pros: Heavy Ranger presence, not annoying great history Hiking Good for bikes big lake Pet friendly Cons: People, it's a campground, slow down! way too much speeding campsites at Pickerel Point a bit close Poor sat signal do to trees on the SW of every site. So what, I like to watch football! Need a bike or car to access much of the park across the road need more on land fishing spots RV sites could use more gravel Otherwise, this was a typical PA state park with excellent scenery and history. The CCC really made this park a nice retreat. Rangers won't mess with you if you don't deserve it; so check yourself before you gripe about it. We didn't use the facilities, but the RR at the end of Pickerel Point smelled really bad. Again people, SLOW DOWN in the campground. We were genuinely shocked at the speed of some vehicles. read more

The hiking trails are amazing! We have been there five years now and have not seen half of the trails yet. This year, we are going to hike the Bruce Lake trail. Conservation Island trail is the easiest and only about a one mile loop, it is nice for beginners or if you are hiking with a group of people of differing abilities. There are a ton of camping sites for tent or trailer. Camping sites range from waters edge on the lake to wooded areas. The rustic cabins are RUSTIC! Not too clean, but if you want a weekend getaway and you're not afraid of spiders and snakes, you might like them. Horseback riding on the trails is permitted, but NO horse rental stables nearby. Great park. We went here for the first time in August 2017. We camped in the lower campground. There is plenty to do in the area. Good places to eat that run between dive bars to three star restaurants. The camp sites are paved and level. Most are not pull through but are angled for easy back in. The park is well patrolled and has a really safe feel to it. There are plenty of hiking and wildlife observation opportunities. It is bear country so be aware. They have a blind at the end of Bear Run Road where you can sit quietly and photograph wildlife. I was thrilled to learn there is a NO DOG circuit to camp in. There is very little satellite coverage and what there is can be quite spotty. Not really a problem because we go camping to get away from all that. Went to the beach one day. The beach is the reason they did not get 5 stars. We did not mind the crowds, but two feet into the lake was a line of rocks that seemed to go the entire distance around the shoreline. They need to be removed. All in all I think we have found a new go to place to camp. read more

Assigned plot of land is smaller than my backyard (and I live in brooklyn, NY so that's saying a lot). Quiet time is at 9 which they strictly enforced (even on July 4th weekend.. I have been taking my family here for a few years now and stay in The Pines, which is a really old and rustic camping area, but a really short walk to the main beach. Just cross the bridge by the dam and you are at the boat rental shack. Go past that, follow the path by the cottages and make the first right and you are right at the Lake Store where they have everything you might need while camping and a good ice cream stand too! If you don't make the right towards the store, you run into Conservation Island, which is just a great place to hike around. No bikes allowed on the island and what you bring to the island you leave with. It is a very clean island with nice trails and some benches to sit and enjoy the beautiful views from. Pickerel point is beautiful, modern and has it's own beach but a little to far from everything to let the kids hike off on their own because the road there can get busy. If you stay at the Pines and really need to shower, you can take a quick drive over to Pickerel and use the really nice facilities they have over there. The camp host and park staff and friendly and professional. If your neighbors are being too loud at night (quiet hours start at 9 PM), tell the camp host and the rangers will have a talk with them. If they keep it up, they will be asked to leave. So if you are planning a loud late night get together, forget it. Strumming a guitar quietly or telling stories around the fire are OK. Alcohol is not allowed, but there is so much to enjoy that you really don't need it. There is a bar or two on the main road you can go have a few before bed, but I've never been in them. There are trails everywhere to hike. The one by Lower Falls is a favorite, but get a map of the trails from the office and find out for yourself. We just discovered a trail when hiking with the ranger if you drive past Pickerel Point and park by the boat launch that has a great creek to splash around in and catch crawfish. I forced hubby to go camping with me. No he said, I don't want to he said, we don't have the equipment he said. Thursday night I shopped, bought a tent, a lantern, a cooler, and we went camping! We found Promised Land State Park to be clean, well cared for, and staff there to be very knowledgeable. Facilities were fine (nothing to write home about). But the toilets flushed and the water ran! We found our camping spot to be spacious and clean. The fire ring, lantern pole and picnic table were in close proximity to each other. And best of all, hubby now likes camping!! read more

We (4 families) arrived (to The Pines Campground site) for our check in, which went quickly/smoothly. We had sites 13-18. They were decent sites. Although site 13's fire pit was the only one that was actually usable as is...the others (as well as the majority in the campground) had grill surfaces that were COMPLETELY bent (don't know how or why) into the shape of a "U". So for those fire pits, you'd DEFINITELY need to bring an alternate grill surface only. The fire pits were all round approximately 12" deep and 2" wide. The sites are quite close to each other, but since we came as a group, it didn't bother us..we wanted to be close. (But if you're coming by yourself...hmm..& are expecting lots of privacy... you'll be disappointed. Each site is approximately 30' wide by 35' deep?? They're small & you park your car directly on your site, with enough room...but you definitely can see your neighbors on either side & "across the street." Each site is a mix of grass & small rocks..so DEFINITELY bring a pad to go under your mattress/sleeping bag or you'll be uncomfortable!!! There wasn't much mosquitos. The women's bathrooms in the site were very clean..but I understand the men's weren't very clean...sadly.The shower house is a bit of a walk, of course..not overwhelming by any means! But they're open 10am - 9pm ONLY!!! Bring your quarters..all of the cold water you'd like is free, but hot water is: $0.50/3mins it's on a timer goes on/off promptly!! The women's shower areas were hit & miss as far as cleanliness..VERY SAD..this was COMPLETELY due to NASTY ppl.. why would ANYONE leave personal items/dirty diapers around!? Just NASTY! If it weren't for that (which only seemed to be the case AFTER "beach time" was over..so if you're reading this and you're LAZY/NASTY.. PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF..THERE'S NO NEED TO EVER BE NASTY!(Sorry just had to say it!!) But overall, it's a clean place.. didn't see lots or much garbage around the entire Campground.. I think the problem was only after some families were finished @ the beach & went to the shower areas. One issue we did come across was on Saturday, a huge camper pulled in next to us & proceeded to hook up a HOSE to the "community spicket" & run their generator!!!! We called & complained, rangers said they'd be right over...NEVER EVER SHOWED UP!! We did try to talk to these inconsiderate people, but they were obviously RUDE people..then Sunday morning at 8am we jump up, (from a nice skeepful night after all of their other nonsense)..to the EXTREMELY & OBNOXIOUS sound of their generator!!..ironically they put a sign up in front of their site..it said something like: "run quiet or go home"...can you believe!? I'm still perplexed!!Anyway they left Sunday morning.. thankfully!!! It was kind of "funny" Saturday when we were finished cooking breakfast, we wanted to follow the rules and wash our dishes in the designated place..but we're unsure of the actual location..so we called the office spoke to a ranger, he said he'd be right over..& I'll give him that..he did come over fairly quickly...BUT he wasn't a very informed ranger..he said "oh I think you'll have to wash them in the bathroom?" He must have noticed the look of SHEER DISGUST!!! I said well the brochure, website, & ALL of the signs in the bathrooma EXPLICITLY state to DO NOT DO THAT!! He said "oh really they do!?!?" I was COMPLETELY AMAZED...he obviously didn't have a clue about his job, the rules, the layout of the ENTIRE/ANY PORTION of the Campgrounds!!! So he said he was going to look around for an alternate option..as he did, we did find the spicket & began washing our dishes, when we were half way done...he shows up again & says: "oh so I called maintenance & 'they' said to wash them right where you are." We wondered if we could collect his paycheck on our way out, since he did NOTHING to actually be helpful!!!! One other thing, we knew ahead of time we were only allowed to buy firewood in PA, to use, so we bought some on-site..the guy selling it, is DISHONEST..he PURPOSELY sold us ALL WET WOOD!! We were going to help him put it in our truck..but he said "oh no, I'll get it!!" When we got back to our sites..we realized that he gave us WET WOOD!! TRIED calling him..but he was GONE!! SHAMEFUL I tell you!! We had to DRY our wood out BEFORE we could do anything!! In the meantime one of our friends ran out & bought a duraflame so we could get a fire going!! The wet wood took FOREVER!! But all in all, we had a great time w/ great friends! For some of us, it was our first time camping & some were seasoned campers...as far as forgetting anything..we only forgot the foil..but ran over to the campground store..it was pricey of course..but considering...not a bad thing.. since it was our only item!! read more

We brought three families, 4 adults and 5 teenagers. Had an absolute blast. Clean restrooms. Easy access potable water. We stayed at Pines Campground, so beach was 5 minute walk away. Lake Store stocked well (Ice:)!). Grass could have been mowed. And "hot" showers were not hot, but no big deal to either of those things. Skytop ropes course/ziplines really close.
