We have been here several times when in Kingston. Located on Princess Street it is a popular place for students. Ordering is done via the QR Code on the table and menu consists of everything you would normally expect from Fried Chicken to GamJaTang to Bibimbap to a variety of soups and stews. One thing you don't get upon sitting is tea. Not sure if it's because the clientele is mostly students. Everyone gets a glass of cold water. Good choice of soju and other bottled drinks. What we ordered: Soon Tofu Stew with Pork - decent sized cubes of pork in a spicy tofu stew served with a side of rice Pork Katsu - served with a gravy on top of the katsu and side of rice and cabbage slaw Spicy Chicken - served with rice and a fried egg on top of the rice Flavours were good and portion sizes were okay. What was sad was the banchan we were served. Again not sure if it's the customer population but what we got was not spectacular in choice or flavour. I actually think it's gotten worse. Podonamu 8/10 We are regulars at this place that is conveniently located on Princess St in downtown Kingston. Unlike most Korean places, you need to ask for the side dishes (kimchi, potato salad and bean sprouts). Overall, one of our favourites! Half and half chicken: This is a mix of the Korean sauce fried chicken and Korean fried chicken. Perfect to share for groups where some people like spicy foods while others can't handle it. Dukbokki with ramen: This is a perfect spicy meal for a cold day! Good to share between 2 people. Rice cakes: This is made with the same sauce as the Korean sauce fried chicken. Compared to places I've tried, the food here was just average. The service here was very quick and attentive but I just think that they should add more variety to their menu. I ordered the spicy tuna kimbap and the beef dolsot bibimbap. The kimbap was very underwhelming. It was just rice and tuna and some other veggies with some type of gochujang-based dollop of sauce. It had okay flavour to it. The bibimbap was made with ground beef so I didn't enjoy it too much. I added the sauce to the rice but even the sauce couldn't give it an extra boost of flavour. If I do return, I'll likely try the fried chicken as they seem to have a good variety of flavours. read more

One of the very first places I've been to since coming to Kingston. Ordered the Pork Bone Soup for myself and the Dukbokki to share. Have no complaints about the food, honestly it's pretty average, nothing mind-blowing or anything, just good and simple Korean food. Pork Bone Soup wasn't too spicy and had a decent amount of meat. Dukbokki was pretty big for the price with all the usual ingredients like ramen, cheese, sausage etc. The price is pretty average when comparing to other places with most dishes hovering around the $12-15 mark. The place is incredibly homey. Felt very cozy and comfortable without being squished. Also even being small, we didn't have to wait because there are many tables for 2! TL;DR - good, simple Korean food for a decent price This place has been a Kingston mainstay. We've gone so many times that we affectionately refer to it as "Pods". This place is without a doubt a top tier Korean restaurant in Kingston along with Gangnam Style. There are a few dishes we consistently order: Gamjatang: Very flavourful. Sometimes overly so - the salt level can be so concentrated that we actually have to dilute it with water. They are pretty generous with the pork bones though (which are always very succulent and tender), and the flavour of the soup is always top notch. Order if you can handle heavy handed application of salt. Soon tofu soup with seafood: Our go to order here. A spicy, light, flavourful seafood soup with vegetables and seafood. Perfect for a cold day - easy to eat. While this is not even close to Toronto stores like Buk Chang Soon Tofu, it is still quite tasty, and we would recommend for anyone. TL; DR Podo Namu is a great place to sit down and grab something to eat. With amazing Korean food and a unique atmosphere you cant go wrong. I was really in the mood for some Thai food, when my favorite restaurant was closed, I decided to take walk down Princess St. to find somewhere else to eat. I had heard of Podo Namu before, and when I passed it the windows were steamed up, I had to go in and see what was going on. The restaurant was super cozy, and the steam looked like it was coming from the kitchen as well as all the Korean hot spots that were being served. I sat down and was given a menu, I started off with some ginger tea. The tea was nice and was perfect on a cold day. I decided to order some fried rice cakes ($6) and the dolsot bibimbap as a main course ($14). The rice cakes came first and were served in a sweet sauce and were incredible. I had never had rice cakes before and I enjoyed them a lot, it was really worth the $6 I payed for it. Then came the dolsot bibimbap which was served in a hot bowl with carrots, rice, pork, and egg. This is one of my favorite dishes and was great, it was also served with Korean side dishes (Banchan) that were extremely tasty. Podo Namu is now one of my favorite spots in all of Kingston and is a perfect place for a cold winters night. I can't wait to go back and try some new things off their menu! I am a big bibimbap and Korean foodie, by far best bibimbap in Kingston! The atmosphere is very cozy, the staff was nice and helpful and the food was amazing. Bibimbap was exactly how it should be and the sizzling bowl was actually sizzling and the rice was perfectly crisped! We also got the fried chicken.... forget KFC, forget Popeyes, the Korean fried chicken was out of this world! Hot, crispy juicy but not oily it was absolute perfection! This was absolutely delicious! My boyfriend & I went on Saturday night for dinner and there was a line out to the door (I know now that it's because it's very good!) We were seated fairly quickly despite being a small restaurant and the wait staff was very nice. Our waitor apologized a few times for service being slow but I didn't think it was too bad. We had the pork bone soup & the beef bulgogi, both were full of flavour and would order again. We also had an appetizer that was like Korean sushi which was very satisfying. My roommate and I go back to Podu Namu week after week for our favourite two dishes - the ddeokbokki and kimbab! Out of all the Korean cuisine places in Kingston, it's the only place that has kimbab (as far as I know?). The fried chicken is also delicious and great for when you're having dinner with a group of friends :) It's a super cute date place, with the most charming interior decor. The food deserves 5 star. To say any Korean restaurants in KST beat Podo is a lie. Although not the most friendly price, the incomparable dishes worth the penny. I'm from Toronto and I would even argue no Korean restaurants there would beat Podo. The dishes are so good that I suspect they are putting addicting drugs in them (a joke of course). The reason I give them 4 stars is the occasional horrible service. This place always gets full and a line and waiters get busy - I get it. However I was once served a dish without utensils and left for 15 minutes - no one ever noticed it. But few weeks later when I decided to give another try the waiter was not there and the utensils are provided once seated. read more

Tofu soup had barely enough tofu floating on top. Seafood or pork? Microscopic shrimp, thinnest slices of pork and squid. Shameful. Bibambap was okay. Slowest service. No hot tea. I have very limited experience with Korean food so take this review with a grain of salt, but the restaurant was average overall. Had the beef bimimbap and a glass noodle dish - both were good but nothing outstanding. If I were to go again I'd go for the Korean fried chicken (table next to us for a big order and looked/smelled delicious) or one of the bigger shareable BBQ plates on their menu. In terms of the location/ambiance, it's simply but nicely decorated and the place was pretty packed (granted it was Saturday evening). Service was similar to most family owned Asian-places, meaning staff didn't give you much attention but weren't rude or off putting either. Came here on a wintery night to avoid cooking at home. I'm not a very creative orderer when it comes to Korean; I just love the simplicity of Bimbimbap so much, that it's my happy go-to order! What I absolutely loved about their bimbimbap is that never in my life have I had a stone bowl that was a hot as this one! it was crackling long after it arrived, and I really enjoyed getting some crispy bits mixed into my bowl. The spicy Korean fried chicken is phenomenal and highly addicting- they seem to alternate between boneless chicken thighs and legs, depending on the day, with boneless being the better option. Salty, sweet, acidic, rich, - usually fried well, rarely has been a bit soggy. Close second might be the spicy pork bulgogi- very tender, quite spicy, and salty but not overly so. Really nice flavour with the thick gochujang sauce. Other recommendations would be the soondubu (both pork and seafood are excellent and piping hot- perfect for a cold winter day), and kimchi jjigae which has a very nice acidity to it for those who like that. Can get quite busy especially on weekends and service slows down a bit. Otherwise, the service is relatively timely, friendly, and attentive. A cute, quirky little place that I have gone to on multiple occasions. A girl's gotta have her fried chicken fix once in a while and this is definitely a place that will satisfy that desire. Came for and early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. The place was packed and only had one server. That being said, she did a decent job in trying to attend to all the guest. Service was minimal. Food also took over 30 minutes to get to the table. But that might just be us.. As the table next to us ordered when we got our food and go their food before we even finished (15 minutes). Food is consistently good :) from my experiences here. Portions aren't too big. The menu has changed from when I first went. Menu includes so good hardy Korean food. Broth for their soups is typically on point. They have the classic dishes. I wished they hd ore side dishes like most Korean restaurants I am used to. Our table of two came received one small dish of kimchi. Good food, by don't be expecting a lot of meat in your dish. I ordered kimchi jjigae and my dad ordered bulgogi, which cost around $25 all together and we were too full to finish it all. It took a while to be made but when we got it it was amazing! I've heard that sometimes the kimchi is a bit off, but the kimchi we were served today was really good. Absolutely disappointed by the service. Our food was delivered to the wrong table, which had three native Koreans; they were immediately informed of the mistake and were apologized to, but we were told much later and we didn't even receive an apology or anything complimentary from the waitress that made the mistake. She gave us an attitude, didn't apologize for anything and continued to give us nasty looks as she walked past, whereas the Koreans were treated like actual human beings. We waited for our food for over an hour, whereas the other table received everything much earlier, despite getting there later than we did. We talked to the waitress, who said, "What do you want us to do? - There's nothing I can do about it" in a very condescending way without even an apology. It was her mistake, but she acted like we were the troublemakers. When we asked for the manager, we had to wait another 20 minutes and when he finally came to speak to us, he was also very patrionizing in a terrible manner of customer service. He didn't seem to care about the way we were treated, saying "we didn't see her attitude, but we scolded her for the mix up". He seemed visibly shocked, and even stuttered when we began to speak Korean to him, because he was under the assumption that we couldn't understand what they were saying - they were complaining about us behind our back in Korean. We eventually did get the item for free, but the way we were treated was horrendous, extremely disrespectful and ignorant, to the point that we suspected discrimination. We wouldn't have minded the mix up if we were treated sincerely, but they completely brushed us off and tended to the native Korean table.
