My first time going to a "Belgian Restaurant" Food was good! We tried the mussels, the cheese board with accompaniments, the croque monsieur, and the carbonnade flamande. The food was good but not "great". The sandwich was lacking ham, there was barely any on on it and the ham was overcooked. Mussels that my fiancé raved about and called best in the city were just good. Again--not exceptional. He even said they're usually better (he's dined here before, I haven't) The Carbonnnade flamanade was great! Their fries were also fantastic. Our cheese board was also good (aside from me not liking blue cheese and it having blue cheese on it) Overall, I really liked it but it's not my favorite in the city or anything like that. Always held out Point Brugge as one of my favorite food destinations, but things have sadly changed; not for the good. I have added it to the nostalgic list of restaurants that use to be wonderful and now have become mediocre and overpriced. The main draw are the mussels: were phenomenal; now the size of the mussels themselves barely qualify as the size of a pea. The sauce was mucho bland ; a no flavor zone. The frittes look as if they were taken from the bottom of the barrel; small pieces and crumbs. The service was terrible; had to send a flare up, everytime she was needed, considering there was at least 5 servers congregating at the end of the bar made it frustrating. I hope and pray at the end of the day that someone takes charge and brings back Point Brugge to where it was. Thank you. read more

APPALLING. A SHADOW of its former self. Mediocre food, discourteous service, and to top it all off, a FILTHY restaurant. I was last at Point Brugge in April 2022, when the grub and warm welcome were well-worth the price. I'm not sure what has happened since then, but if my most recent experience is anything to go by, SERIOUS changes have to be undertaken at this once gem of Point Breeze for it to justify the equally serious price increases that have gone by since then. The food: BLAND and prepared without care for the customer. To start off, my companion and I both got the "soup du jour." It was tomato and onion cream. Completely mediocre and far too sweet. I could've bought a prepared soup at Trader Joe's of the same quality. For our mains, I got a $36 (!) salmon with fried veggies and lentils. The fish was OK (it's hard to wreck good salmon), but the veggies were positively DRIPPING in oil and the lentils were salted to all hell. I could not finish the latter. My companion ordered a $16 vegetable sandwich and specifically requested no red onions. Guess what? The sandwich and its side salad were chock-full of red onion slices. So much for customer service. The restaurant: GROSS. The remnants of mussels and other food items were LITTERED all over the floor of the "top" area of the restaurant. The walls are full of cracks; the paint is peeling; and where the drywall meets the floorboard, AVERT your gaze! Giant, gaping holes pepper the entire lower part of the wall, as if positively begging for a rodent infestation. How is this up to code? The service: UNFRIENDLY. I think we were served by the manager. He had sort of a strange attitude and cadence, and only asked us anything about the food BEFORE we had started eating the soups. Consider asking us after we've finished something? I think he was mad that I had only ordered a water. Sorry! Alcohol is bad for you, and I for one wasn't going to slurp down a sugary "mocktail" next to all those oily mushrooms. Next stop? UPMC Presby. Apart from him, the staff was underdressed and loud (although, for what it's worth, a bit friendlier). However, I prefer to know if I'm interacting with a paid employee or a freight train driver who has just gotten off a 16-hour-shift driving on the CSX mailine. I get it: nobody is expecting you to wear a tuxedo in 2026. But let's at least try to outdress the most casual of customers, no? Considering Point Brugge was once a place I took people from out-of-town to show off the East End, this is a sad, sad fall from grace. Before the pandemic, we went to Point Brugge Cafe fairly often and always loved the food. The mussels were fantastic, as were the frites and bread served with them. Our most recent visits, however, haven't been as good. The mussels are still very good, particularly the classic style. However, the quality of the frites has declined and the bread tastes stale. On our last visit I ordered the Croque Monsieur and was very disappointed. If there was bechamel sauce, it was very minimal--beyond detection. All I could taste was the melted gruyere. We will be going back to the cafe; hopefully some of the finer points of the food will be improved. read more

Mussel fail. Mussels need to be served in the vessel they are cooked in so that they stay warm. This is crucial. Served in a cold bowl and three minutes later, one has cold mussels and cold broth. Poor quality mussels as well. Not a large restaurant so make the minimal investment required for proper mussels served in the correct way. French fries were good. read more

Overall very solid spot. Busy and relatively small, so be prepared to wait for a table. They have an excellent Belgian beer menu of course, lots to try. Service was a bit curt and slow, but no bother. We had: Moules frites - this is normally an entree, but our party of four split it as an appetizer. It was really tasty! Pretty standard. Chicken Milanese - this was quite good, although the "candied peppers" were just pickled jalapeños, which was a bit strange but ultimately fine My other dining mates had steak frites, short rib, and shrimp curry and all spoke highly of it. Overall I'm not sure I would return, but the place is definitely solid for what it's going for! read more

Really cute and classy European style cafe. Love the vibes inside. Went with my family for a quick lunch after my graduation ceremony :') We didn't have a reservation but we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. Once we ordered, the food came out fast. Everything was tasty and flavorful! We weren't too hungry so we only ordered three dishes/apps to share. I love the plating here so much -- it's so unpretentious which makes it really beautiful. Great spot for a lunch, but I'd come hungrier next time to try more of the menu! read more

My favorite mussels in the Pittsburgh let alone anywhere else I've traveled. Service is solid. Place can get busy and loud. Small business feel in a good way. They do not take a reservation so good place to go when you don't want to get a reservation but at the same time regular dinner hours can lead to waits. Also a big fan of their steak and frites. This is THE place to go if you love mussels. Tonight I had the red curry sauce and my friend had the traditional white wine sauce. This has been a spot of mine for a long while, but it's been about 2 years since I've been. The food was just as good as I remembered! We got the steak frites (you cannot leave without getting their fries and basil mayo) and we also got the Mac & goat cheese fritters. All of which were amazing! One of our favorite brunch/lunch spots located in a small neighborhood. They also have a nice selection of local beers and some craft cocktails. I love the comfort food here. The poutine here is quite good, I think they have added more toppings over the past few times we have gone here and it has gotten better with each visit. I had the mussels here recently and they were also quite good. The sauce they came in was absolutely perfect and when we depleted the mussels, the sauce was immediately scooped up. Mains here are quite impressive. Their brunch menu changes frequently, but the specials have been very tasty (ex. fried chicken sandwich with goat cheese, yum!). My favorite item thats always on the menu is the Carbonnade Flamande. The sauce is super savory and the braised beef is tender and flavorful. The portion is also very large, I can make two meals out of one order. We end up taking all our friends/family from out of town here and its always a hit. Point Brugge has always been one of my favorite restaurants. I have loved their moules and frites. The last two visits, however, have been so disappointing, I may never return. Tonight we ordered our usual and the dishes were bland (both the classic and the scampi) and some mussels were cool. At first I thought it was just me, but on the way home, my husband had the same comment. It makes me sad because I have spent many birthday dinners there, but I'd prefer to remember it as it was, not as what it's become, which to me, is mediocre. read more

My daughter, Muff and I recently went to the Point Breeze house sale and went past the Point Brugge Café and decided that we would come back. And come back, we did! This place is definitely hipster chic, but has food that is good enough to dispel any misgivings that you may have regarding about hipster places having great food. My daughter and I were thoroughly impressed with our service and our food. Since my daughter wasn't overly hungry, we ordered the Brugge Fries, a large House salad to share and she ordered the day's soup, which was a crab chowder. I ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab cake with Sweet potato and arugula salad with chipotle horseradish crema. The crab soup had a "New Orleans" accent to it with a tomato base and was quite filling and tasty. I lived too close to Baltimore for years and had way too many excellent crab cakes to tolerate crab cakes with a bunch of filler. The crab cake that I was served at Point Brugge wasn't the largest crab cake I've ever been served, but it was dang tasty with just enough filler to hold the crabmeat together. Aww, my personal kind of bliss! And the twice fried fries were delicious! No ifs, ands or buts about it! If you are having a fresh-cut fries jones, please satisfy your craving here. You may want to sit outside of the kitchen and just demand more fries until you are completely stuffed! We will be back! read more

A neighborhood favorite that adds a lot to the city as a whole. The menu almost never changes, except for the prices. A goat-cheese salad is now $17, and adding a salmon filet is an additional $11 (if memory serves, this combo was $18, pre-pandemic). Given prices now, we don't eat out as much any more, but when we do, we still try to support PBC. read more

I recently visited Point Brugge Cafe and had a great time. I was impressed by the well-crafted and unique drinks, as well as the delicious food, although some dishes weren't served piping hot (which I reduced one star for). You could tell our dishes sat for a little before being served. But the taste and ambiance made up for it! I ordered the Carbonnade Flamade. Taste of the meat in sauce was perfect, fries were crisped, carrots could have used some flavour. My partner enjoyed his mussels dinner. Plenty of mussels on the plate. The standout, however, was the incredible service. The cafe's ambiance and neighborhood added to the experience. I would highly suggest sitting out in the quaint patio at this cafe and enjoying the food and environment. read more

I'm a little sad to write this review. I have loved previous meals at Point Brugge and Park Bruges, but the other night I went with my wife for her birthday and we had a bad experience. Though, before starting, I'll say that we had no complaints about the service - it was friendly and attentive. The food, on the other hand, was all drenched in salt and frankly, not very good. For entrees, I ordered the Scottish Salmon, and was really disappointed with the portion sizes. Compared to previous visits to Point Brugge, the salmon piece this time seemed almost half the size. It was paired with equally pathetically small amounts of cauliflower and risotto, and this mini plate was $28. Everything was way too salty (unfortunately, I did not snap a picture of this dish). My wife ordered the Moules Frites with dijon sauce - a speciality of the cafe.  She has ordered the classic white wine and curry sauces previously and has always loved them. The dijon sauce was way too salty and more of a thick ketchup consistency than a broth. The dijon was way too strong, and combined with the saltiness, left her not wanting to finish the dish and with a decent case of dry mouth. Lastly, what happened to the frites?? We always have loved the twice cooked recipe (they advertise this on the menu) but the frites this visit seemed just once cooked and way more generic than we'd expect at Point Brugge. Just meh. I hope this visit was just an anomaly! Maybe they are struggling after Covid and cutting back on portion sizes, labor (e.g., the time it takes to bake frites twice), etc. If that's the case, I feel for them. But after this visit I'm not sure we'll go back any time soon. read more

Lives up to its neighborhood gathering spot slogan. What a great small spot right in the heart of the Point Breeze neighborhood. Absolutely love the Moules Frites with the spicy arrabiata sauce.
