Biergarten is located in the Hotel Monaco and is a great rooftop patio in nice weather. We took the elevator up and walked right on in on a Friday night and it wasn't busy. We got to pick out our seats and a server came over to take our orders. Their menu mostly consists of drinks (cocktails, beer, wine) and a small handful of snacks. If you want more substantial food you'll have to go somewhere else. I got the spiced nuts which were a great snack. I thought my cocktail was decent. My friends got the Miami Vice frozen cocktail and the Pina Colada. My friend's Pina Colada tasted strange and our server was really nice about it and got her something else. read more

Manager on 05/30/2026 (white beard) was incredibly rude to us. He did rude questions such as "where are you coming from" as a member of our party had a valid federal A-list ID instead of a local driver's license. Same guy rushed us out of the restaurant immediately at close, even though the kitchen closed 45 minutes prior and the bill was paid with only the drinks to finish. We were incredibly frustrated and will seek opportunities to support more hospitable restaurants. read more

Great place for a post work happy hour! Plenty of space and large tables for big groups. Located inside hotel Monaco, take the elevator to the rooftop and the doors are right when you get off. Sometimes they have live music playing, the past 2 times I've been there's been a nice guitarist. Our server was kind and attentive and I was a fan of their draft beers! I believe I got one from Cinderlands. I think Jackworth's Ginger Beer would be nice on tap here as well. There are no happy hour drink specials but my $8 draft felt reasonably priced. We don't know. We were in Pittsburgh and staying Downtown. Our evenings were booked, so we were thrilled to hear they had Sunday hours. We took our crew to the location, but they weren't open. We checked the website, and it said it opened at noon, but it wasn't. We asked the hotel associate where the business is located, and they just changed their hours since they didn't have much traffic at noon. We had a show we were going to that evening and a dinner reservation at 6, so unfortunately, we were unable to check out this establishment and that awesome-looking pretzel on their website. With the "world" connecting via mobile, our party suggests that if you are going to change your hours, you put it on your site. Maybe next time. read more

This place is a dump! Upon arrival, the host told us it would be 30 minutes before any seating would open up and that there was no bar on the rooftop level for us to go down to The Commoner on level one. There were many empty tables, and before our drinks, even arrived at the bar downstairs in less than two minutes, he was calling our phone to come back up to sit at the same tables that were empty when we were just there five minutes ago. None of the pictures seen in the yelp reviews are reality. What arrived upon ordering was Wheat Thins and Ritz Crackers poured on to a plate with some hummus this place claimed to be worth $15. The pretzel seen in the attached pictures was $28. Any time a restaurant has to use stock photos like the one attached beware. You are being deceived. From overpriced drinks, to misleading food items, to empty tables sitting while a hostess claims booked reservations then, five minutes later, out of thin air, the tables are all free, the Biergarten had no problem taking my money and leaving our group hungry and frustrated. Service Staff underaged and nowhere close to justifying $28 pretzels - Good Lord. Don't waste your time or money. We left with $200 taken from us then stopped elsewhere to get something to eat and drink. If you see me walking into this place again, please don't hesitate to give me a flying burrito throat punch for being stupid. read more

Like the Kimpton hotel it sits atop, Biergarten is nothing short of spectacular! High end small plates and cocktails are the go to here. I've dying to try the Biergarten for so long! A few weeks ago, I finally made the trip to Hotel Kimpton! We went on a Tuesday evening around 6:30pm - we ended up getting street parking - so it worked out well. Even though we had never been there before - it was easy to navigate through the hotel. And all of sudden.. we were transported to the beautiful rooftop bar. The atmosphere of the Biergarten is amazing. It wasn't busy when we got there, so we got a table right away. It didn't even feel like we were in Pittsburgh. I ordered the frozen rose and my friend ordered the frozen negroni. I loved the frozen rose. I think the negroni tasted too sweet. I would definitely order the frozen rose again. They also provide fun table games to play! It's such a fun idea. They also have bar snacks - we ordered the giant pretzel. It was delicious. I wanted to experience a rooftop bar in Pittsburgh and ended up finding this place on Yelp. I only had one issue with the place but I would definitely go back again! The atmosphere was very nice with the lights strung across the area. But there was limited amount of seating and the tables were pretty close to each other so there wasn't as much privacy. As for drinks, I ordered the Rooftop Negroni which was a bit strong for my taste. My friend ordered the There Is No Mike which was actually very good. She said it was one of the best drinks she's ever had. I also ordered the pierogies which was good as well. What surprised me was that they had life-sized Jenga in the corners which was a nice addition to the place. They also had the regular sized Jenga for you to play at the tables. It's super modern vibe is enhanced by the crowd it attracts. The patio was filled when we arrived around 5:30, luckily we grabbed a table. The first thing I noticed is the table games. We had Bananagrams and Jenga on our table and had a full size Jenga near by. Seriously cool addition to your typical happy hour conversation. Our server created us right away to take our drink order. The menu is extensive with a combination of cocktails, wines and beers. They have several frozen cocktails on the front page which immediately caught my attention. Take my word - Frozé. I could literally frozé all day here. They don't have a lot of small plate options, but we did try almost everything they offer. My favorite was the pretzel with beer cheese. How can you go wrong? The pretzel is huge and perfect for sharing. A close second is the cheese board. It comes with a variety of mustard and pickled vegetables. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's overpriced for the little variety you get, but I love pickled vegetables. Moral of the story - if you are looking for cheap drinks and eats for happy hour this is not your spot. Choose The Biergarten if you are looking for an evening of elevated fun. read more

I've seen enough Instagram stories and Thrillist articles to know that Biergarten is the PLACE to be in Pittsburgh. It's a beautiful bar set on top of Hotel Monaco and if you're looking for a who's who of the 'Burgh, you'll find them here. The hotel itself is breathtaking. I've seen a lot of hotels in my life and Kimpton's Hotel Monaco line always impresses. There are no immediate signs upon entrance to assist you to their Biergarten, but the elevators are obvious and there's signage next to the elevator doors to help you to your destination. Unlike the majority of the rooftop bars in Cincinnati, you will not face the riverfront and have an unobstructed view. There will be buildings all around joining you for your after dinner/game/show drinks. I didn't mind it though. Just something to keep in mind if you're expecting to see something. My friend and I visited during the last open weekend of the season so beers were specially priced. I enjoyed a draft of my Cincinnati go-to, Rhinegeist Bubbles, for $4. That's quite a steal given the quality of the brew and the place I bought it from. There's an ample amount of seating and standing tables to choose from at Biergarten. My friend and I chose the opposite side of a half used standing area, only to be awkwardly intruded upon by a group that parked themselves smack dab in the middle of myself and the other party. Not Biergarten's fault by any means, but a small, small annoyance during an otherwise stellar experience. I will most certainly be visiting Biergarten again when it opens up next season. It brings trendy to the Steel City downtown bar scene without being pretentious. Biergarten will remain the place to be seen for years to come with Pittsburgh - and I am just fine with that. read more

I spent the night at Hotel Monaco Saturday 8/6/16. After enjoying a complimentary beer in the living room, I headed up to the rooftop deck to for another drink. While the prices are a buck or two more than I'd like to pay, the ambience made up for it. It's a super-cute little space with some round tables and a couple of traditional Biergarten-style long tables with benches. While I didn't get to try any of the food, every order that came past my table looked delectable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They made the experience pleasurable, even though the place was packed and they were all running around like crazy. Unless you're staying at the hotel, I probably wouldn't recommend hanging out for more than a beer or two, but it's certainly a place to try at least once. read more

It takes a lot for me to write a review on a place that mainly focuses on drinks. There is only so much you can say, but not at biergarten. I was really blown away by not only the atmosphere, but by the taste of my frozen drink and pretzel I ordered to "snack" on. First things first, biergarten sits up on the 9th floor of hotel monaco (which is a really unique hotel). It wasn't too packed for a busy Saturday night in Pittsburgh (pride/arts festival), thankfully. No one likes waiting for drinks, let's face it. It was definitely a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but still set up in a way that didn't make you feel smothered. They also have jenga on each of the tables and connect four. My friends and I really had a great time playing! I ordered the pretzel and absolutely LOVED it. I have had a lot of pretzels in my day and that one was so soft. I am not sure how they make their pretzel dough, but they are doing something right! For my drink, I ordered the Frosecco which was frozen and had Zonin Prosecco, Havana Club Añejo Blanco, White Peach, and Lime. I loved this and could have kept drinking them all night. The only thing that stopped me was the $14 price tag. Totally worth it in my opinion though. That is one thing to keep in mind about this place is you will end up forking up a lot of cash. If you are looking for a classy rooftop to find yourself on, check out biergarten! If you are worried about parking, no worries they can valet your car for you. Awesome place for a few drinks with friends on a nice warm day or evening. A group of friends met here on a Saturday for a girls day. I wish there were more tables that you could separate because we had to sit in between two different couples on the middle of a bench/group table and it was a little awkward. Drink menu was average- absolutely was able to find something I wanted, but I wasn't overly impressed with the selection either. If you have some time to kill before really kicking your night off I would 100% recommend stopping for a drink! So this is a bit of a mixed review for me. I like rooftops (and skylines), and finding a cool rooftop bar in downtown Pittsburgh was a dream come true. Beirgarten is on the 9th floor. Once you get off the elevator, it's to your right. You can't miss it. You seat yourself on giant communal wooden picnic tables, which I really like. It's great to chat with new people! The snacks and the mixed drinks, like the frozè and frosecco, are great. It's so trendy that I hate to love it (but I love it). A couple of cons about the place--when it's busy, it's almost impossible to flag down someone to order drinks, or to get your checks. When you deviate from the menu, the servers seem to struggle a bit. My friend had to have her simple drink remade twice. Also, in terms of vodka choices, they only have Smirnoff or Grey Goose?!?! The pros--good drinks off the menu, great soft pretzels, skyline view--definitely outweigh the cons for me personally. I'll be back to enjoy some more froseccos! read more

Our first time at the Biergarten was fun! Luckily on a Friday we arrived early enough to share a table with a nice couple because there is very minimal seating or standing room. It's such a small space that you need to arrive early because it gets so packed. I enjoyed that you can walk up and order food or drinks yourself or be waited on. There is an actual garden that is in view next to it which was cool, but I can say the view was average. All you see is another tall building from the top haha. The atmosphere was very fun and the staff was very friendly! The drinks were delicious and expensive! Food was tasty. We ordered chips and dip and some pretzel sticks with beer cheese. We made new random friends and had a good time. Since it's a bit too pricy I don't see us coming back too often, but since it was fun and tasteful we will come back in the future. read more

This was a neat place to spend a Friday night! There are only a handful of rooftop bars in Pittsburgh, and especially in the downtown location this was a neat experience. We arrived around dinner time. The place was already fairly crowded, but we managed to snag a spot at a table fairly early on. It was beautiful to be up there while the sun was setting and could see the reflection off the windows of buildings nearby. It was a little bit trick to figure out where to go within the hotel itself, but once you're in the elevator, it's clearly labeled 'biergarten' or something like that to select the correct floor. The rooftop bar itself is more casual than the hotel, so I felt a little strange walking through without being in business professional. The food menu is limited, but the drink menu is extensive. I tried one of their frozen drinks, which the server said was their take on a mango margarita, and later settled with a beer. The only downfall was that I was not expecting the prices to be as high as they were. But I don't think this would deter me from coming back, I just wish I had researched a little bit before. Our server Zach was fantastic, and checked on us frequently. There were only two for a Friday night, but you would never tell that they normally had more, the servers were awesome! read more

What a great little spot in downtown Pittsburgh! I've been to Biergarten two times now and overall I have nothing bad to really say about the place. My first visit we went late on a Saturday so we did have a wait to get in but the Commoner bar is right downstairs and if you don't finish your drink down there you are allowed to bring it up with you. It was decorated with strung up lights and the atmosphere was great. No annoying, young, and drunk college kids. It was a nice mix of people probably in their upper 20's up to people probably in their 60's. While the view isn't of anything super fantastic it's still awesome. I ordered the pickle plate and a large pretzel. The pretzel is a must every time I visit and it never disappoints. I would highly recommend getting one or two to share depending on how many people are in your party. While the pickle plate wasn't bad it definitely wasn't out of this world by any means. My second visit was on a Friday after work for happy hour with some friends. The place wasn't as crowded so I was actually able to check out where the life size games were. We also discovered they have jenga sets for the tables! If you are looking for a new place to try in the summer months I would definitely recommend you check out Biergarten. read more

As the summer wraps up and the weather becomes chillier, I can't help but think about the good times I've had at Biergarten. I love this place. Chill, nice atmosphere, communal tables, yummy snacks (and omg is that giant pretzel giant!). The drinks are a bit pricey but hey, this is a classy place! AND fun little games like Jenga, oversized Jenga, and oversized Connect Four. I saw a couple go on a first(?) date here and it is definitely a perfect date spot, but also one where you can go with a group of friends and actually hear each other and enjoy each other's company.
