Outstanding semi-dive bar. Great place to watch football and listen to juke-bock. My friend Kurt Daddy took me here, we had excellent service and the drinks were dirt cheap, and also very strong. A little too strong actually because my GF got sick that night and I had to hold her hair back while she hurled. They advertise NY style pizza by Basemore. This was one of THE worst pizza's I have ever had. I am a NY'er but despite this, I think this was an old, reheated pie w a crust that tasted and felt like an old shoe sole. A dark and grubby bar with a crazy loud jukebox, cranky bartenders and a rough crowd that all smell like cigarettes. Really awful.

We went in for the first time, to watch soccer and the Buckeye game. We sat at the bar and there are enough TVs to make everyone happy! The menu was very nice but as a vegan, although they had a burger and a hotdog, I wanted something different. The chef came out to speak to me and, wow, he made me the best spicy vegan quesadilla ever. They have vegan cheese and sausage and the presentation was fantastic. Overall, the service was fantastic, food was noteworthy and the atmosphere was fun! For a little stripmall, dive bar, this place was great! We'll be back. :) read more

The Pointe is a great little neighborhood bar where you check your ego at the door. My friends and I have been frequenting this bar for almost eight years now and it's nice to see that some things never change. You'll see construction workers with lawyers with landscapers with State Representatives. It's not the fanciest of establishments --I've still failed to see a single drink served in a martini glass-- but the regulars are friendly, the prices are super cheap, and it's a great launching point for the rest of the night's activities. There are three pool tables, three steel-tipped dartboards, Golden Tee, two pinball machines and a digital jukebox. They used to have domestic buckets of six beers for $10, but the price has been raised to $11. It's a great spot to bring your friends but if you've had a few too many and need to call a cab, I'd suggest calling Blue Cab. Given the odd location on 33 in Upper Arlington, it once took Yellow Cab and Bobcat over 1+ hours to pick us up. Blue has been the only reliable cab company we could get to show up. read more

For those referring to Pointe Tavern as a Dive bar, uh, you're wrong. They have a pretty decent set up and it is a lot bigger than I anticipated, as the outside of the bar leaves a bit to be desired. We came here with a group of about 10 or so to watch the Buckeyes play in the Sweet 16. We got there right at game time, after realizing King Ave 5 was too packed to even stand. I was surprised at how many people were here! We all found a place to stand and there were plenty of TVs (and a huge projector screen) to keep us happy. Their seating at the bar and tables looks pretty great and I'm sure you would have an easier time finding a spot when March Madness isn't taking over Columbus. There was a sign out front that they recently started serving food (which appeared to be from the Granddad's Pizza folks) and honestly the smell was overwhelming. My clothes still smelled like bar food the next day. But it was one of those things you get used to after 15 minutes or so and I didn't really notice after awhile. We stuck to beers and it was awesome that they were offering $1 Yeungling Draughts during the game. I don't really like Yeungling, but I DO like a one dollar price tag, so you can guess which won. They had a pretty good list of some craft beers as well, though not nearly as extensive as other bars. I peeked into the adjacent room and saw a (few?) pool tables and I think darts. Also, the bathrooms looked fairly new and were clean, which is huge. I'd definitely be into coming back here. Though it's not the most convenient bar for me, it's a great location for bf and his friends in the Grandview/UA area, so count me in. Oh...and dive bar, it is not. read more

A little stinky since the smoking ban. It's a dive for sure. They did invest a bit of money into the fairly new patio. It's a good addition and resting spot for the all the regulars who do smoke. Perhaps everyone? It's the typical combination of dim lighting, stale smell and snack mixes, juke box tunes, pool tables and darts. It's for what it is, it's fine. But I like to feel good when I enter and then leave a place. I don't have those happy in my toes feeling. I actually feel a little depressed. It's kind of a wallow in my problems, escape from reality and drink bar. Kind of reminds me of the Billy Joel song, "Piano Man." read more

Came into town looking for a low key bar to chill at and get celebration shots with my girl for her big promotion. We came in, we were welcomed by Carly, and sat down. They had the exact tequila(Casamigos) -2 varieties, actually. We had an awesome time here and met some really cool people. The bar had touch tunes so we had some cool jams playing all night. I had a really nice experience at this bar. I went on a Thursday night when the Browns were playing the Steelers. The bar stools were all filled and about half the table tops were filled. There was only one bartender to handle everything. This poor young lady was completely in the weeds, but she handled it like a boss. She was constantly checking on the customers and you didn't need to wait long to be served. I ordered the fully-loaded fries to eat with my beer. They had a Mexican twist to them in the herbs and spices that were used. Very tasty. I liked my experience here and will definitely be back. Memo to the owner: have another bartender help out on game nights. There is plenty of work for two people. read more

The bartenders are all friendly and know me by name. I have been coming here for years with my friends and it holds a special place in my heart. Come drink strong drinks on the cheap. My wife is from a small, humble town in Northwest Ohio where every bar is a dive bar. When we found Pointe Tavern, she fell in love, and I'm a pretty big fan too. And it's pretty great that it's right in the UA area minutes from our house. There's a nice, big bar with plenty of stools, although every time I've been there, it's mostly been empty, so seats are easy to come by. The beer list is surprisingly good. I always say that I want either really good beer or really cheap beer, and they seem to accomplish both. You can get PBR or Natty Light for under two bucks, or you surprisingly can get Dogfish Head 90 Minute, Bell's Two Hearted, or a rotating choice from Four String on tap. There are plenty of craft bottles in the cooler too. The food's not bad either. They just installed a Grandad's Pizza kitchen in the back, so there are piping hot pizzas and sandwiches, which are cheap and pretty good. The bartenders are all amazingly friendly. Of the three I've had, all have been remarkably friendly and attentive. There are big TVs and little crowd, so this might be a good place to watch some sports. There are also three pool tables (free on Monday), Keno, and pull tabs. If you like dive bars, this one is pretty good. read more

Nice little dive to have a cheap, stiff one and wait for a pizza. A lot of local blue collars go there for beers after work. Pretty average bar. I've been here a few times when meeting people. It's never been a destination for me. There's really nothing great or terrible about it, just a bar. I did end up getting some food last time I was here. I had wings and a sub. Again, not great, but not bad either. I will say that the service last time I was in there wasn't that great. It wasn't busy, but the bartenders were busy chatting with the regulars while others were waiting for a drink. They were friendly once they got around to you though. I have been coming to the Pointe Tavern for almost 5 years. The bar staff has always treated me like family. Although Johnny's tries to lay claim, i believe the Pointe has the coldest drafts in town. The kitchen spits out hot fire, I mean their food is great. The Pointe burgers are especially intriguing with the pepper relish, and beef/sausage patty mixture. In reality, my favorite part is that anytime i come here people are having a blast, whether is 5 people or 50, we all party like its our last night on earth. If you get the pleasure to meet Danielle on Sundays, she can stir your world up and give you a better perspective on life. Ah, Pointe Tavern. If you don't live close to the Grandview/Upper Arlington area, you've probably never heard of it. It's your classic neighborhood dive bar, though it is much larger than it appears from the outside. I usually go here with a group of friends when we just want to avoid the super-crowded and super-loud downtown bars. We usually set up shop in the back by the pool tables, which they have three of. You don't have to worry about getting all dolled up to come here...it's not the type of place you try and pick someone up at. Also, it's not necessarily the cleanest places and some of the chairs kind of creep me out, but I've been to much worse. The crowd can be a bit interesting at times, but it does make for excellent people watching. If you come here, bring your quarters. Between the pool tables, dart boards, juke box and video games, you'll need them. read more

As a self-professed connoisseur of dive bars, I am officially obsessed with Pointe Tavern. This place has the best makings of a dive bar - dark, dingy, slight mold smell, cold drafts, cheap pitchers, and KENO!! It is a good thing I am not within walking distance to PT. My liver may jump ship if I was. They don't have food, but last time we ordered in pizza and wings the delivery guy forgot napkins and plates but the bartender was happy to oblige. And speaking of bartenders - every time I have been there the same two guys have been behind the bar. They don't try to be your BFF (which I appreciate) but are plenty friendly. Go for a VERY chill time with friends you can get loud with. Just don't take my table. read more

They are under new management and i had heard underwent renovations...I think that was new carpet and a new tv, not much has changed. My clothes still smell weird from this place. Noticed Pointe Tavern had a redo with a nicely redone patio so we stopped in last night. We appreciated the selection of beers on tap and they even had a nice Cabernet for me. They have several tv's and said they are replacing and adding more for football season. I also have had great sliders there. In terms of drink prices, the Pointe still can't be beat. They still offer $2.50 wells during happy hour, and I wish that it was Sky or Stoli or something, but it's not. Still, at 4 for $10, it can't be beat. Don't expect anything uber fancy. If you come to the Pointe, it's a great place to entertain with friends, but don't expect to be entertained. Everybody there is out to have fun and throw darts or shoot pool, and everybody kind of sticks to themselves. I'm a fan, but then again I live in a three mile radius of the bar. It's a little tight on the police jurisdiction side of things. Tread lightly on the drinks or call a cab if you're in it for the long haul. read more

I have been to this bar once before a few years ago and had a great time. HOWEVER ... I went in last night after a nice dinner at Bonefish and was extremely disappointed. I am also a bartender at a "cheers joint" and I would never treat ANY of my customers, even the ones that don't tip the way they treated me last night! I am still left baffled by the lack of care or friendliness towards me. It started off by us attempting to play photo hunt. The touch screen was not working well at all and I had put 6 bucks in it. After two very quick games due to the screen not responding to our touch, I told the bartender (the girl with really long blond hair - unfortunately, she never introduced herself to me so, I have no clue what her name is??) she told me it was a new machine and it should work and then walked away! She didn't even attempt to come around to see that we were telling the truth. I think she thought we were drunk or something and had no idea what we were doing! I was happy when the guy bartender came over to actually see what was going on and after talking a bit about it, he did give me some money back, which was nice and the right thing to do. After that we played the bowling game which was fun :) We decided to play some pool and as we were heading over, I put about 5 bucks in the jukebox and played some Fray, some country, and a couple top 20 songs. While shooting pool, I started to notice my songs were being cut off in the middle and then my whole selection was not played at all!!!!!!!! I went over to the guy bartender and asked why they were not played. He laughed!! And proceeded to tell me they took a vote and found the songs I played were too depressing and they (the bartenders and the regulars, I guess) decided they didn't want to hear them. He said he yelled out to see who played the songs, but while shooting pool and talking to my friend I guess I failed to hear it --- IF that was the case! He then gave me two bucks and never apologized. I then went up to the bar to order another round and two shots. I ordered them from the girl bartender and told her what as in them because, I didn't know if they knew what was in them, the bartenders at the bar I work at said they made that shot up - she proceeded to tell me and a couple of the regulars in there that shot was not made with what I told her to put in it, she had NEVER heard of it made that way EVER and was very snotty about it! I told her I would not be coming in this bar again! She said, that is fine and walked away! Now, with all my regulars at the bar I work at, I don't care how many head banging songs that I can not STAND to listen to....I would NEVER EVER EVER just skip their songs or argue with them about how a shot is made or just blow off the fact that the bar game is not working correctly and costing people money that they were spending in my bar to have a good time! With all of that being said, I still tipped them and I hope they learn not to treat people like that when they are paying customers - I seriously felt like I was in high school or something and I am 30 years old!
