We came here for the music and it was fantastic. The big rocking blues band was wonderful--played a lot of songs that we knew growing up in the 80s. The food was not good. But I don't think that's the point of this place. Large portions at a reasonable price but can't say I liked any item. Went in on a Saturday evening looking for a table for 6 people. Place was pretty busy, but we got lucky and found one right away. The service was excellent - fast, friendly and professional. Nice beer selection with regular, craft and non-beer options. The menu was simple, which I like. The table ordered some rosemary potato wedges and atomic fireballs for apps. Very good. We tried some wings, also good. They were fried crispy on the outside and tender inside. Sauce had a great flavor and had the right amount. For the main, I had a Fantasma Burger. Highly recommended!!! The bun was buttered and grilled, the double patties were cooked perfectly, and the sauce and toppings were spot on. It's still one of the best spots in Columbus. The best happy hour. They have a great local craft beer list. A full liquor bar and several wine options in single serve bottles. Live music that is out of sight. I got a Downeast Cider, and my man got an Elvis Juice. Here again for day drinking with The League Bowlers. Perfect for us 'old' people home before 7 pm. I love that they now have food on Sundays. The in bar restaurant used to only be open 6 days a week. This only makes this place even better. We love coming here. They have two rooms, two bars, two sets of bathrooms. One large outdoor patio with a fire. Their own parking lot out back. You can also park in the front during certain days and times. read more

I've been coming here for oh, at least a decade. Even when I lived in Zanesville, about an hour away, friends and I would purposely come to town to go to Woodlands. The music is what draws us here. I almost always only come here when there is a live show taking place. The space itself is split into two, one side is the bar and kitchen, the other side is the music venue. They also have a great patio out front. I had pizza here once way back in the day, but I usually just order a few drinks while I'm here. The venue side has a small bar but the kitchen side is where they have the most options. As I mentioned, the main reason I come here is for the music. I've seen the Floorwalkers once or twice and I always make it a priority to come when the Spikedrivers are playing. I went to OU where they've played often, and try to catch them whenever they are in town. The space has a whole light system and the sound is usually pretty good. I like that they give you wristbands so you can walk back and forth between spaces. I also like that you can purchase tickets ahead of time instead of paying cash at the door. I can't believe how much Woodlands has changed in the last few years! The music room has gotten some pretty amazing soundproofing, and the patio door in that room has been removed, making way for a MUCH bigger stage! I had the pleasure of visiting on their "NYE do-over" night last weekend and the bar provided complimentary glasses of champagne for everyone at the show. As always, the staff is top-tier, and the band was awesome. I love how great the lighting looks with the new setup. Woodlands has ever been a top favorite of mine, and I can't wait to go back again soon! It's a totally different Woodlands than the place I went to in college, but it really still has the same heart and soul. They can keep the extra $8. It seems they needed more than I do. Always verify your receipt before you sign, don't get to tipsy that you won't make sure because they definitely won't make sure they are charging correctly. I went to this bar the first week of April. A fee days later I verify my account and the second transaction was not correct. I called in a week later once the transaction actually finalized. Gave my info and all. Three weeks passed, no change. So I called again, same parson that took my info the first time. Sounded very nice and apologetic, gave the info a second time. I trusted that everything was gone be fine. Today June 7th, 2025, something reminded me of the transaction and decided to give a glance and see if it was resolve. What do you know? It was not! Hey woodlands and blackbird thank you for the awesome takeout order today. We got Birria and chicken crunchwraps, atomic fireballs, and chips and dips. Everything was made with care and presented beautifully. Sooo delicious. I wish I had pics but we demolished everything. So many delicious dips came with the meals too. My husband who uses a wheelchair and I had a great time seeing one of our favorite artists at this venue; however, the bar had no plan in place for accommodating customers with disabilities--specifically mobility impairments. We called ahead and were told the venue was accessible and to simply "ask if we needed anything." Upon arrival, we waited in line at will call--we didn't realize we were essentially standing in a line for first-come first-serve limited seating available in the music venue. By the time we got into the venue, all of the seats and tables were taken, leaving only the very front for my husband in his wheelchair to sit where he could see the performers. We decided to hang out in the back for easier access to the restrooms because we didn't want to get trapped in the crowd at the front. While in the back, my husband was constantly tripped over and spilled on by both other customers and servers, not to mention people kept trying to force us to sit in front, which we did not want. Before the show, a waiter seated another woman with a cane behind us, essentially setting up a make-shift disabled section in front of the men's bathroom with no view of the stage. Seats were not offered to her partner or me, so I kept crouching down to be able to talk with my husband. Woodlands Tavern would benefit from having designated accessible seating available for customers with disabilities. A little surprised I haven't already reviewed this. I am not a regular, but get here for shows once in awhile. Acoustics are great. There's a small stage where you come in, and the main one in the other room. Met my cousin and Tom H. to see Hayseed Dixie this time. The opening act was good, and kept the crowd busy while waiting. On that side, there are plenty of tables, and of course the bar. The bartenders were busy but friendly and fast. There's a decent beer selection, and barbecue from Land Yacht, I hear. It looked really good, but sadly I wasn't hungry. Over on the other side, the stage is a bit bigger and there are fewer tables. We saw a helluva show, and you could sit, stand, dance, or go out on the patio. There is a small bar on that side, and with restrooms on both sides pretty much every need was met. All in all, a great place to see a band, with plenty of food and drink options. Parking is very limited out front, so scope out the neighborhood behind them for legal spots. read more

Woodlands is a pretty good bar for a happy hour special. I like the bar specials which are good. The bar is overall among the nicer ones in the area. It can be hard to find a parking spot here. There is only a small lot and street parking is limited. It has lots of good specials. It claims to have the best happy hour in Columbus. This can be debated but it really is good. It lasts from 3 to 8. They have domestic bottles or drafts for $2 and crafts for $3, and most cocktails are about $3. It has many local brands including Four Strings and Seventh Son. They also have several great selections on tap, including cider. It's so refreshing and full of flavor. The bartenders are mostly friendly. It's interior was pretty clean and spacious. There's two rooms: the smaller one with the stage, and there's the bigger one. It's a cover for entering the room with the stage. There was plenty of room to dance, but this night it was pretty subdued. I recommend Woodlands Tavern if in the Grandview area. This is much better than Zeno's for sure. Would come back if a good band plays there. read more

I'm knocking a star off my original review. I loved Woodland's when it was Thirsty Ear. The staff was awesome, the Happy Hour couldn't be beat, and it was a hidden gem. Nowadays? The staff is a crapshoot. Some of the bartenders are awesome - a few leave you hanging. For far too long. Even when it's slow. I've noticed if I'm not with a girl, I won't get served until any woman around me has been taken care of (except for Fritz - that guy is awesome and fast). The girl bartenders have all been good - aside from one that gave me a not-clean glass. Simple mistake, she grabbed me a fresh pint when I mentioned (and in a split-second, too). The Happy Hour is still present, and awesome (when they have my IPA on tap). But the parking? Atrocious. It gets incredibly crowded some nights and it's about impossible to find a nearby place to park, let alone a seat inside if there's anything going on (from one of the many amazing shows they put on). The food? Deplorable. I've quit ordering from there, as the past few times I've ordered, I got sick, and the only common denominator of my days were Mikey's Late Night Slice here. I'll be sticking to the gyros down the street from now on. read more

This place is kind of tough to rate for me, which is why they are ending up at a solid three. I had this place on a list for awhile. But once I found out they were home to Preston's Burger Joint (which I hear about ALL THE TIME!) it moved straight to the top of my list! Burgers and fries are my absolute favorite, so I had to get there to try it out. I planned to go there on a weeknight with friends, one of whom I hadn't seen in forever and we had a ton of catching up to do. Well as soon as I walked in the door, I literally had to motion to my friends that we needed to step outside. This place was WAY TOO LOUD!! Like I couldn't even hear myself loud. I get that there is live music and I am used to that at other establishments. I don't know if it's how this place is set up or what, but it is unbearably deafening in here! I told my friends that I could not stay there with that loud music. And there weren't any tables left either, so for the time being we walked down to Byrnes. MUCH better noise level in there. You can talk at a normal volume! Again, my friends and I hadn't seen each other in forever. There is no way you can "catch up" with anyone at a noise level like it was at Woodlands! However, after 45 mins at Byrnes, we were getting hungry and I REALLY wanted to try that burger. Luckily, we walked back over to Woodlands and the live music had moved into the other room, so it had turned back into a traditional bar vibe. Again, music level louder than I'd want, but it was at least bearable. We quickly put our orders in at the window for Preston's. I was pleased to see that they had Platform Red Martian in stock since it had only been released a few days prior. I got a can of that as we waited. Our food came out quickly and the burger is TOTALLY worth the hype! (See my review on the separate page for Preston's). I devoured it and could barely talk to my friends because I was so into this burger! So all in all, this place is a good spot and I love the food that they have available via Preston's. But I just so thoroughly was turned off by the loud music, that I'd be hesitant to come back here again unless I knew for sure that live music isn't happening. I went here after a run with friends in Grandview and grabbed a beer outside on their outdoor patio. Can't comment on the food, but they had an interesting assortment of beers including a Terrapin Luau Krunkles (was a local beer I've enjoyed in other cities on the east coast) which was very cool to see. WOW! We had drinks on their patio on Tuesday 8/11/20 and had PHENOMENAL service by the 2 bartenders! A young woman and a young man that were attentive, efficient and friendly!! Social distancing, masks and obvious sanitizing! These 2 were great! Place is clean, drinks were good! We haven't been in awhile so maybe I'm a bit behind but we haven't been since they re-did the inside with the greenery wall and all the new TVs. This Third Avenue establishment has lost something over the years. No longer able to serve Mikey's Late Night--as it is gone and the connector refurbished-- it kind of lost the neighborhood appeal and now must rely on its venue function. Unfortunetly, I find Woodland's space to be below average for concerts. The clientelle is students basically, and other young professionals. It's not exactly like campus, with the nieve and Columbus inexperienced; it's not the fake ID flashing wild undergrad underclassmen, nor the too wild bubbled up hormonal home free tasting the first benifits and dangers of freedom, but the more toned down and Ctown savy older type. So venue lovers older than 30 can feel right in. It has a nice patio. If you have never been there it is in a more archetectually mature block of Grandview so the scene from it has sone charm. More spacey than it seems from the street, they also light beautiful fire pits when the weather is down. The inside has two sections for music. The main section is normal tavern with bar, tables, and a stage tucked beside the entrance. It is kind of hard to enjoy bands from the bar as you must look across through the entrance path. They have a second larger room that seems ripe for dancing. Not a lot of tables in here, and weirdly, must of them were reserved the night I came, that was after paying a cover to enter. There is a bar in that room too but it wasn't maned. So my party sat at a table on the side. Drink choices were average for Grandview, the service was good. There was little energy in the air. Now I was suffering from the killer sinus from hell which could explain me, but it didn't seem like anyone else was energetic either; the place was not festive. I think a lack of proper event management was to blame. It had been a few since the visited before last; it may had been an off night, or maybe it has lost a step. My last visit didn't seem that fun. read more

I've been to Woodlands Tavern a handful of times and really like the layout and feel of the place. I'm nowhere close to being a regular, but if I lived closer, I'd be here every weekend. They always have a great selection of local beers on draft, and they just recently moved from serving Mikey's Late Night to having their own food. I can't say the food I tried was amazing, but I wasn't expecting much from a $2.50 chili cheese dog and fries. Surprisingly, the fries were $4, which seems a bit high for fries, but they were pretty tasty. The aioli that comes with them is really good, but I couldn't taste much of the Cajun seasoning. The place has a great patio as well with a fire pit which makes it an awesome place to chill in the Spring and Fall when it's a little cooler. You can catch a live show next door, but it's mostly local bands, and I'm not up with the local scene anymore. If that's your thing though, it's a great place to watch them. In my experience so far, half the bartenders have been great while the other half just don't seem like they want to be there. That's always kind of a bummer, but it's not going to ruin my night, since I didn't come for them. There's not a lot of parking, so I suggest grabbing an Uber or taking a cab. If you're looking for a fun place off the beaten path that's usually happening at night, then this is a very cool and hip spot to be. read more

Super cool place to see music acts in the second, smaller room. We went to an intimate show on Saturday, to see Charlie Mars. They seat around 60, I am guessing, and he did a meet and greet after. Their happy hour extends to Saturdays and ends at 8, so we were able to get there early enough for special drink prices. I need to update folks on the pizza situation. I haven't been to the Thirsty Ear in quite some time and forgot how much I like it. The venue is small and intimate and is known to be one of Columbus's best live-music bars. Expect a regular dose of blues, as this is home base for the Columbus Blues Alliance, but the Thirsty Ear also brings in local and national jazz and folk bands, with the occasional funk and country act thrown in. I have never eaten here before last night, but was pleasantly surprised with the fish-n-chips. They were not greasy or too fishy tasting and had a light breading that sat well with me, given we were eating bar food at 10 PM. The drinks are reasonable and they carry quite a few good imports on draught. I had wine for $5 per glass and the bottles of domestic beers (as I noticed on the tab) were $3.50. So over all, the Thirsty Ear makes for an affordable night out for live music lovers. The cover charges vary depending on the night of the week and the musical act, but expect to pay somewhere between $5 and $25. read more
