Poke Works Review - Cedar Bluff, Knoxville, TN Initial Impression: Nice looking building, but there weren't many vehicles in the parking lot and no customers inside when we entered. Two employees were present, but neither greeted us upon entry. Ordering Experience: When we approached the counter, the male employee asked my wife, "What do you want?" She placed her rice order, and he asked, "Do you want anything on it?" When my turn came, the female employee was neither welcoming nor friendly. I ordered rice but hesitated for a moment since it was my first time there. When I asked about the Hawaiian chicken, she bluntly responded, "It's just teriyaki chicken." When I asked if I could try it, she became agitated and angrily explained that it was a plate, not a bowl, and would be different. I decided to try it anyway. She proceeded to cut the chicken into smaller pieces, and I ordered my toppings. Payment and Service: When it came time to pay, they asked, "Do you want anything else?" We replied yes and ordered drinks. The total came to $48. I paid by card and left a 15% tip. The food was handed to us with no "thank you" or acknowledgment. Food Quality: The rice was extremely hard--like break-your-teeth hard--and was challenging to eat without risk of dental damage. However, the chicken and other veggies were very good. Overall Atmosphere: While dining inside, two more customers entered, and none were greeted. There was no friendly atmosphere, and we joked that either the employees hate each other, hate their job, or simply hate customers. Final Thoughts: I typically write positive reviews, but this experience needed to be shared. If you work in a service business with the public, you should be a people person. If you're not, perhaps consider finding a different job. Everyone has bad days, which is why I still left a tip despite the poor service and feeling like I was a bother rather than a welcomed customer. My money and time are valuable to me. Fantastic, if not the the best poke chain (warning: I have never actually been to Hawai'i to make any real comparisons) around this area. Ever since I made my dad a fan of poke a couple years ago, we always try the poke in a town when traveling around the southeast. This place, my friends, is so well-rounded in the basic menu but most of all, stellar service. Starting with the toppings - they have soft tofu (also as a protein but also as a free topping), surimi salad, and gochujang sauce! Best of all, I love the detail they add to their miso soup, which includes BOTH tofu and green onions. I also love the variety in their teas - hibiscus, apple vinegar, and mandarin, just to name a few. The employee who was the mastermind behind our bowls and whom we happily chatted with (cannot even attempt to spell his name but he was a cool Sengalese one) was so pleasant and empathetic as we came into the store in soiled clothes, in our failed attempt to rescue our car that got stuck in the mud next door. If I ever see another Pokeworks... no doubt it's going be our next meal! read more

Hubby and I were in the area to get service on our car and walked next door to Pokeworks (first time trying) for lunch. Luckily, there wasn't any line, so we were able to take our time and ask employees what the item consists of. They are selection of toppings to add on, even if the item you selected doesn't have it. I got #6: Sweet Shoyu Tofu and hubby got #1: Sweet Sesame Chicken. The service was amazing, they were super sweet and patient, and we didn't feel rushed. Overall, everything was good. This is a refreshing addition to a very carb and cheese heavy Southern town. The options are as healthy as you choose them to be and there are so many ways to customize the food to your liking. You can order inside and watch them build your meal or there is a drive-thru as well. Feeling woozy by the thought of raw fish? Don't fret. Cooked chicken, shrimp, or tofu are also options. You also have the ability to order your proteins seared on the top. The app allows you to build rewards and fully see and customize all of your options. I ordered a regular poke bowl with white rice, shrimp, and ahi tuna. So many sauces, but I chose the Umami Shoyu sauce, which is slightly sweet like terriyaki. I also ordered the spicy aioli on the side to try it for next time and drizzle it on the garlic spam musubi my husband and I split. The musubi was interesting...seared spam slice on a bed of sesame-coated rice. Glad we tried it once but no need to get it again. For your bowl or salad, there are an abundance of toppings to choose from and some add-ons that are an additional charge, too. I added cabbage, edamame, corn, sesame seeds, wonton strips, cucumber, and paid a tad extra for avocado. I could do without the corn next time and am crossing fingers that the avocado is a bit more fresh next time, as the texture was a great addition to the bowl but it was browned with an aftertaste that was a bit bitter. The edamame, cucumber, and sesame seeds are a must-have and I loved the wonton strips paired with the softness of the tuna. My husband mentioned that he finds this spot pricey, but I feel like $15-ish per bowl is worth it for a good amount of proteins and it was big enough that it will last me two meals. Meh is the only way I can describe this place. I really don't know what I was expecting when we stopped in. It's like the Subway of Poke bowls. The inside itself could have used a bit of wiping down, but they were busy. Service was fast and friendly. I had a shrimp plate and again, it was just meh. Something I could definitely make at home. Husband had a bowl and left half of the fish pieces behind. Not that it tasted funny, he just wasn't into it. Portions were generous! read more

I'm sooo glad they opened this location near me! I love sushi and poke bowls are the next best thing. I ordered the Seoul Poke...it had a great spicy flavor. All the ingredients were fresh and the kimchi was delicious! I noticed they had a variety of teas, so I made sure I tried a few of them. The Mandarin Cardamom tea was my favorite. Yay a poke option close to my parents! I'm a huge poke fan and happy to report, the food is good! It's brand-spanking new - I think maybe just a few days old? The space feels clean and bright, and the AC & air circulation feels strong which is comforting for both the raw fish and during these pandemic times. The staff is very friendly, and they have a drive-thru option too. You can order one of their signature works, or make a custom version - a bowl, burrito, salad or nachos. Regular w/ 2 proteins = $11.95. Large w/ 3 proteins = $14.95. I wish they had a small size b/c the regular is pretty big for me -- but I'm good w/ leftovers lol. We did the custom regular bowl, Chipotle style where you pick your ingredients as you move down the line. We did half salad, half brown rice for the base. Tuna & salmon for our proteins. Cucumber, shredded cabbage, sweet corn, edamame, mango & jalapeno for our mix-ins. Sriracha aioli (aka spicy mayo and my go-to for poke bowls) as our sauce for one bowl, and Pokeworks Classic + Sweet Chili Gochujang for the other. Then seaweed salad, green onion, pickled ginger, shredded nori & onion crisps for our toppings. All the veggies & raw were fresh - well except for the avocado but I know keeping it from browning is a challenge for everyone. And voila, you have a very tasty, healthy & filling bowl - and you will feel great afterwards :) FYI they have a Pokeworks loyalty app - if you're a poke fan like me, definitely worth the download! I will be a repeat customer for sure! Very happy to have Poke in the neighborhood! I ordered takeaway and it was as I had specified and ready before I got there. The only thing is, I didn't 100% love my poke bowl so I ate half of it and picked out the fish to eat. The edamame had a slightly funky taste so they may have gone bad. My food was toward the last hour of the store's hours so maybe it was out all day or something. That said, I ate until I was stuffed...it was a large bowl (3 protein and a lot of veg). Next time, I know what I would change for my order. I didn't like the spicy salmon. It wasn't spicy/flavorful and it was basically just chopped up salmon. So I would just get a second portion of the regular salmon next time. I tried half cauliflower-rice half salad and the cauliflower took up too much of the bowl and had no flavor but was soupy. The salad I didn't love so I barely ate that. I would just get all rice next time. Steamed shrimp was ok but didn't have flavor and I got like maybe four pieces? Would get fish next time. I asked for the original sauce but didn't really taste it. I would go easy on the veg next time so the sauce could get on more stuff. Food was very mid for the price. Total came out to over $18 for a regular bowl and a drink. Every table was dirty and so sticky that my phone wallet literally got stuck to the table. The toilet in the bathroom was wobbly and not secure. And on top of it all, one of the workers had a small dog (maybe a yorkie) he was carrying around throughout the back kitchen area. Nice find in the Knoxville area. Items are marked as gluten free and vegan, which is appreciated. Got a bowl with brown rice and tofu and customized it with my favorite toppings. The server was really efficient and helpful. I asked him if they, by chance, had gluten free soy sauce, aka tamari, and he went to look in a book. Sadly, they did not. Unfortunately the only sauce available for my dietary needs was a sesame oil with chili flakes and salt. Not being a big fan of adding oils to food, I hope they'll consider getting gluten free soy sauce as an option. They have organic soda fountain beverages, and those were tasty and appreciated. Love this place. I really enjoy sushi, but don't want to spend $40 on lunch. This is a great way to get my sushi lunch fix, for under $20. The food is always fresh and well seasoned. I usually get the #2. It's the spicy tuna in a poke bowl with brown rice and heavy on the seasoning sauce. It's plenty of food and always delicious. Side notes, interior is always clean, staff is always able to answer any questions I may have, fast and friendly to boot. The longest I've had to wait to order was 3 mins. When ordering for lunch, I use the Yelp app. Order ahead and use the drive through to pick it up. If your not a sushi/raw fish person, they do have chicken and cooked shrimp options that even my 10 year old enjoys. The drink selection is eclectic. Not the usual Coke/Pepsi selections. Try the Mandarin Cardamom tea. This is one of my favorite places to get food. I eat here at least 1/wk. read more

I went to pokeworks on Friday evening. My very first visit and it wasn't bad or great. I ordered the sweet tofu shoyu. I also ordered musabi. Musabi is spam and rice wrapped with a band of seaweed. Spam was something I ate as a kid and loved. The musabi wasn't as good I'd hoped. The spam was a little burnt and the flavor was kinda bland. Pokeworks has a floor plan that reminds me of subway. I like the food taste but I do wish they were more consistent with serving sizes. I get the same thing every time I come and depending who makes it, it is completely hit or miss. Specially, some people put almost no rice and others put a regular amount; last time I went there was one scoop of rice for a normal bowl so not only did it look half empty it had significantly too much rice for the bowl. I had to go home and make rice just to dilute the sauce level and give it some substance; not something I would like to do when spending $15 on my meal. I usually come as a treat to myself at the end of the week after my hospital shift but lately the inconsistency has been off putting. I love the food so I might just go to another location in the future! - I have also noticed when my significant other orders our food he gets more overall than when I do. I am not sure if they give sizes based on gender/size but this doesn't seem fair since we pay the same price. I typically split this into my lunch and dinner, so when paying the same price for the meal I would like to get the same portions as everyone else! read more

Everything is really cold (sooo important!) and the kale noodles are a fun change up from the standard rice or lettuce. Love all the options, especially the toasted garlic chips!
