The best hibachi cooking I have had in Knoxville, fried rice wasn't dry and overcooked but it was very moist and flavorful with crisp vegetables as a topping , the steak wasn't Kobe beef but tender and flavorful nonetheless . What really made the meal were the egg rolls that were not over cooked like all of the other Asian food restaurants but were instead had a light flaky crust that was somewhat sweet and had perfectly cooked vegetables inside. Is there anything better than the smell of grilled steak floating through the air?! (Vegetarians - Pay no attention. Nothing to see here.) I was thrilled to try the Kazoku Hibachi food truck for the first time. I found them at The Cave at Hey Bear and after spending a few minutes perusing their menu I was ready to order. There was no line and as I approached the window, the person taking my order seemed less than thrilled that I had decided to do so. I opted for a Hibachi steak and chicken plate. I also ordered a side of beef dumplings since my husband and I were sharing the order. I hadn't paid much attention to the prices on the menu before ordering, but was taken off guard when the total came to nineteen dollars and some change. Thankfully, once the order was ready I was relieved just by the weight of the order. The portions were indeed substantial. This is where my joy died. The food way fine and nothing more. I was disappointed to find that the fried rice was more just rice drowning in some teriyaki type sauce. The zucchini was way overcooked and super soft. The chicken was flavorful, but was overcooked and dry. The steak, on the other hand, was cooked perfectly, but lacked any seasoning or flavor. I enjoyed the sweet carrots enough and the beef dumplings were good. I also enjoyed the heavy ginger flavor in the dumpling meat. Just had lunch there even though Yelp said It's closed today (Sunday). They are in a red truck at the Gas Stop gas station on Broadway, next to Denny's. They said this was their new permanent location, 7-days/week. I am watching my carbs so I was happy to see that they have a "healthy option" where you get double vegetables instead of rice. It's a 50-cent up charge but worth it. Wife and I tried the steak and shrimp and my son and his gf got the chicken. We all enjoyed our meal. It didn't take long, either. I always get the steak hibachi and it's perfectly cooked every time. They are friendly and the prices are pretty reasonable. I usually expect to pay around $10 for lunch anywhere. The dumplings are just like the frozen ones you can get at Kroger so I wasn't impressed with those. Plenty of food though and I've never been disappointed with it. read more

This was the first time I've seen the Kazoku Hibachi Express truck downtown during lunchtime and being a food truck and hibachi fan I had to give them a try. My first experience was my hibachi "go-to," the Chicken & Shrimp combo. I really enjoyed it. The veggies, especially the carrots and zucchini, were great! The chicken and shrimp were both flavorful and cooked just right. The accompanying shrimp sauce was good and though I bought extra I did not need it as the standard 'issue' four ounces was plenty The only downside to me was the combo made this lunch a high prices option. A single entree provides a price more in line with downtown Knoxville lunch prices. The food was good though. The owners/operators were nice and provide very good service so I do recommend Kazoku and will enjoy their food again when I have the chance. read more

I have tried to call the numbers listed for Broadway 15 times now and it just keeps ringing and then hangs up. Kazoku Hibachi Express Had a terrible experience with truck 2 yesterday. They even deleted my post on their page. The truck #2 didn't serve on time due to reasons "beyond their control" at central filling station. The guy kept saying 10 more minutes. Many people walked up asking why they were not open and I told them the guy is saying 10 more mins. That passed and still closed. He finally came out and gave reason for delay by blaming others and I stated not my problem. Kazoku finally started serving and only ONE person wore a mask when its mandatory. My order was placed and my change was practically thrown at me but the guy apologized. I voiced my concerns on their Facebook page and christina stated the employees said I was impatient and banging on doors/windows. How was I doing that sitting down? I can't quite understand the lie. Christina has not provided proof. I urged her to chech security cameras. This truck 2 has always provided bad service and more training in customer service is needed. Honestly, it was just ok. Had them at central filling station last week. I do LOVE that you can sub extra veg instead of rice. The steak was cooked well. But nothing had that much flavor. The onion and zucchini were super soft, mushy almost and were swimming in liquid. I was almost afraid it was going to sog through the container. Didn't love that the carrots were the frozen kind. Delicious! This was my first time trying hibachi and I wasn't disappointed. I had the hibachi chicken entree (fried rice, chicken and veggies). The portions were generous (I saved half for later) and it was flavorful without being too salty. The veggies (broccoli, zucchini and carrots) were especially good.
