I love stopping by Poke House whenever I get a craving for a fresh high quality ahi bowl. The portions here are more than generous, and the price point matches the quality. The fish here is wild-caught and they try to stick with buying local sustainably sourced seafood, which is why it always tastes so fresh and clean. For bowls, they offer signature ones already put together so it saves you the hassle of trying to figure out what you want. You can also build your own though. My go to is usually the Tuna Lover bowl. It comes with 3 tuna offerings, such as ahi, spicy tuna and garlic oyster tuna. It also includes cucumber, white and green onions, masago, and furikake. For the sauces they use a citrus ponzu and house shoyu. Served over rice and it also comes with seaweed salad and crab salad. So good! I can never finish the bowl because it's so filling, but the left overs still taste delicious. Customer service here is always friendly and the restaurant is well kept. You can either dine inside or enjoy your meal outside. I love dining outside because it gives me a chance to people watch and it is located at Paseo Nuevo Mall, so the location is perfect. The topping variety was also great, so it actually feels fun building your bowl instead of the same basic options everywhere. I got the miso salmon, and while I'm not sure I really tasted much of the miso flavor specifically, the fish was still super good and fresh. Also, whatever that purple seaweed topping was? So yummy. That ended up being one of my favorite parts. They have some seating inside plus a bunch of outdoor seating, which is such a nice vibe if the weather's good. I first discovered Poké House, here in the Paseo Nuevo Mall last year during SB Burrito Week. They had an incredibly delicious offering which was unlike anything I had ever eaten before (and am hoping they offer it again this next year). Of course I had to research the Meaning of "Poké, (POH-keh), and learned that it's Hawaiian for 'to slice,' or 'cut crosswise into pieces.' It is a dish of diced raw fish tossed in sauce and served as either an appetizer or Main Course (thank you Wikipedia). I then became a regular here and have thoroughly enjoyed their Hand Rolls, "Build Your Own" Combo Meals, Hot Bowls, and Signature Bowls. I always find something new here, and their staff is very helpful with putting them all together, as well as making suggestions to make each meal special. And now here they are during SB Burger Week with a delicious Spicy Tuna Slider. They swap out the traditional bun for compacted Sushi Rice seasoned with Furikake, and wrapped in a sheet of Nori. And then inside, with a generous scoop of house made tuna, there is mixed greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and jalapeno. And yes, it can be eaten just like a traditional burger. Incredibly tasty. Although I usually order my Poké to-go, they have a nice and clean dining space as you enter. The bowls make it easy to take for a picnic, or better yet, for the Free Summer Cinema on the grounds of the beautiful Santa Barbara Courthouse. read more

I'm too embarrassed to admit how much I spent on a single poke bowl from Poké House via Postmates. This was several weeks ago, and I was just reminded when I looked up my order--a Tuna Lover Bowl with a couple add-ons, plus a full $20 in tax, tip, and fees. The bowl was quite good, with a sizable serving of fish: spicy tuna, garlic oyster tuna, and ahi tuna, all three pre-marinated and flavorful. It also came with imitation crab salad, masago, cucumber, sweet onion, green onion, furikake, seaweed salad, sesame oil, house shoyu, and citrus ponzu sauce. I got the medium size with a base of sushi rice and opted to add avocado and some sriracha aioli on the side. The aioli was unnecessary, as there was plenty going on in the readymade bowl, but the avocado was nice. I liked my lunch enough that I'd be happy to go to Poké House in person, but I don't know when I'd do that as I'm only ever in Santa Barbara with my husband and kids, who do not eat poke bowls (hence the solo Postmates order, when the three boys had pastries for brunch and called it a day). My family and I were spending the weekend in Santa Barbara and drove up from Anaheim on a late Friday night and we were starving. What better way to have some poke for dinner. We came across Poke House and we were glad we did! Located in downtown area, street parking wasn't too bad to find. The interior of Poke House was very aesthetically pleasing...very modern looking. My husband got their Charred Salmon Bowl which was one of their hot bowls and I ended up building a large bowl (choice of 4 proteins). The torched spicy salmon from the hot bowl was pretty good. The warm salmon complimented the rest of the bowl nicely. The proteins I chose was the ahi tuna, garlic oyster tuna, scottish salmon, and spicy miso salmon. The fish tasted really fresh and not "fishy". I also got to try their Salmon Miso Soup & Rice which was surprisingly really good...I could probably eat 2 of those hehe. Came here on a whim because we were craving poke and I did not expect this to be some of the best poke I've had in my life... and we're from LA(and very experienced poke eaters)! The prices are pretty reasonable if you get a large which is 4 scoops of protein with 1 scoop of crab for $20. We both got larges but I quickly regretted it as it was SO MUCH FOOD. I made my own bowl and they include a free scoop of imitation crab which is great. I tried the spicy tuna, but be warned it is VERY spicy, so I decided to go with the miso salmon and regular ahi tuna. The fish here is super fresh and nicely cut. All the chunks are for the most part very even which is something I also consider when eating poke. No one likes haphazardly cut sashimi pieces! The imitation crab was surprisingly good and not too mayo heavy or bland tasting. I used the sriracha mayo as a topping and be warned, again this place definitely leans on the spicier side! I had to get an extra side of miso aoli(equally as delicious) to cook it down. Loved the toppings as well and the sushi rice was equally as good, perfectly cooked and sweet. Service was fast, you order at a counter and their is plenty of seating outside at the tables which is great! We were impressed with everything at the take out restaurant. A 3 scoop bowl is $19, which may seem high but the fish is fresh and even comes with zucchini noodle base option. I'd say top 3 poke bowl places I've had across the United States. All the toppings, proteins, fruit, sauces... tasted so fresh! I would recommend the Spicy Miso Salmon and the Garlic Oyster for the proteins. I haven't had this mixture before and figured I'd give it a go. The crab salad meat tastes much better than most places that I go to for sushi/poke bowl and say they "only do the freshest". The options for the base definitely were awesome. I usually opt for half greens and half rice, but I did zucchini noodles and rice since I usually don't see that available. Get option number 5 for the sauce if you like spicy. I come to Poke House a lot, and the service tonight was really bad. The food tasted delicious, however I could tell the workers were being really lazy. I came in at 7:50 PM, more than an hour before closing, and they were out of half of the things and didn't want to fill anything up. They also didn't mix my fish/sauce in the silver bowl, and when I asked why they said because they don't have any clean dishes. They also put up the closed sign at 8:30 PM when they don't close until 9 PM. I am very disappointed by the customer service here tonight. read more

I've been eyeing this place for a minute, but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to the hype. The first time I tried Poke House, it was towards the end of the night. I ordered tuna and salmon à la carte. Portions were generous so I threw the leftovers in the fridge; the next morning it was completely rancid. Gross, but I chalked it up to user error. Decided to give them another shot a few weeks later, and it only got worse. This time I tried a poke bowl and the protein was suspiciously WARM... I got queasy and completely lost my appetite. It didn't feel safe to eat. The temperature of the fish was repulsive and ruined what could've otherwise been a nice meal. To add insult to injury, I then discovered a small piece of plastic in the same bowl. This was my final straw. I promptly headed back to the restaurant for a refund. When I got there, there was a quite a long line. The employees made me step aside and wait until the entire line cleared, even though there was ample time to help me out between orders. While I waited, I noticed a Doordasher arrive and the employee handed him a bag that had been waiting on the counter -- unrefrigerated. This only further confirmed my concerns about quality control here and I won't be coming back. Disappointed. read more

I think that other poke places serve more bang for your buck. The chicken hot bowl that I got was ok. The service was exceptional. One of the cashiers got us cups of water which was really nice of him. The ambiance was very clean. I am hoping this place lasts downtown.
