So follow up from over charges. Today I received a follow up call on my complaint to the Oregon Board of Dentistry. Yes I received my money back after hours and hours of fighting. Most people are unaware of EOB(explanation of benefits) and never compare what they should've paid (per insurance contracts) and what they did pay. My case is closed but I was advised that there is an ongoing investigation due to fraudulent practices and charges and it was suggested that I post this and let others know to contact dental board for all complaints. read more

I hardly slept at all last night due to the pain from a failed root canal performed years ago. I called Dr. Nguyen at 7:30 am as a new patient and had an appointment for noon. The reception staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and had my insurance pre-authorization done and waiting for me when I arrived. Honestly, the wait was longer than I would have liked, but being a new patient and being seen with such short notice I didn't mind terribly. The doctor and his assistant were professional, informative and friendly. They have nice equipment and technology and took the time to show me the benefits of it. I felt a pinch during the initial numbing injection, and not much else after that. Afraid of getting a Root Canal...fear no longer!!!! Dr. Nguyen and his staff are by far the best I've ever been to in my 56 years of life. It started with the phone call I made to get in because I was in so much pain, being new to the area I went off reviews and I am so glad I did. Anita made me feel so relaxed and that she really cared about me as a person, someone deathly fearful of having dental work done, and reassuring me it would be okay and that Dr. Nguyen was the best in town. I was treated with respect and tender care when arriving at the office. My exam went great and they got me in the next day for the root canal. I had one experience with a root canal about a year ago in San Diego, CA and it was horrible, so my trepidation to have another one sent my anxiety spinning out of control. The appointment went so smoothly and everyone was gentle and attentive to my needs and anxiety. To say it was pain free would be a lie, I did feel one teeny tiny pinch when Dr. Nguyen started to numb my mouth, a pinch so small it was hardly noticeable and lasted maybe a nanosecond. From then on I WAS PAIN FREE!!!! If you need a root canal this is the place to go. Don't hesitate out of fear as postponing the procedure could make you suffer needlessly. Pick up the phone and call Polaris Dental, you won't regret the decision. I went several months in pain, now thanks to Dr. Nguyen I don't have to suffer any longer. I was very nervous going into the dentist. As I have had very bad and painful experiences at the dentist. Dr. Nguyen and his staff were SO kind and SO THOROUGH and made my experience wonderful. I literally fell asleep during a root canal and had zero recovery time, as far as pain or problems. They truly care about their patients. I have had lots of dental work per Polaris. Dr. Nguyen - I call him: Dr. Win. He is a PATIENT ADVOCATE. He is a perfectionist. He will keep your tooth - if at all possible, and not pressure you into a more expensive procedure(s). The staff has always worked me in, so that he could help with the pain, and do the procedures that are needed. As a side note, Dr. Win goes several times a year to conferences to learn new and better techniques. I want to share my experience of my first root canal this past week. I was deathly afraid and apprehensive about the procedure. During my consultation Dr. Nguyen he not only spent time explaining the procedure, he educated me as to why it needed to be done. I was so worked up about the whole concept of a root canal that when I returned a few days later for the root canal I hard time deciding if I could actually go through with it. I'm happy to say is was nothing like I had feared. He talks you through the procedure and puts you at ease. I think the worse part for me was the anticipation of the unknown. My experience was basically painless, the only thing that was uncomfortable with the numbing injections. Dr. Nguyen and his staff was extremely patient and professional. Had a root canal done here, 3 weeks later still in pain, I called the office and they said there's nothing they can do. I went to another dentist told him of the situation, he did some testing and said the tooth is cracked, needed to be extracted. I wish the dentist was honest, instead of charging me 2,000.00 for a root canal that he knew wouldn't help. By the way, the moment he is done he asks you to review him on google...I thought it was just me, but he headed next door and told the next patient the same thing. On my way out, the receptionist stopped me and asked me to review them on google. Really? she wanted to 'show me how' but I really had to go and told her I will figure it out, she handed me an instruction how to...so yes, here is my overdue review. I had horrific tooth pain over a long holiday weekend, and Tuesday morning, Polaris got me into their Salem office for a consult that blessedly led to a same-day root canal. It wasn't 100% painless (the longer you wait, the less possible a totally painless procedure gets, so don't wait), but it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared. They were INCREDIBLY professional and calm and competent and communicative, and they worked so courteously with each other, and I felt like I was in excellent hands. And I was! Afterward, the pain was gone. It's been 2 weeks now, and I'm well into the crown process (not with them, they don't do crowns), with no pain at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH, DR. NGUYEN! read more

They were all super nice and took care of me. I was scared it was going to hurt but it was painful and they took good care of me.

TCD is a very poorly ran office with very unprofessional staff. The doctor himself was a nice and gental man, however his office staff creates a "not worth it" feel. No matter how great the dr seemingly is. When working with the staff on scheduling as well as billing matters, they seem to have a very disorganized and non-communicated way of doing things. I would speak with one person on the phone then speak to another in the office and the stories never seem to line up. They never seem to know exactly what they were billing out for or how to handle billing situations. If I were to be able to rate this office I would give it a -0 out of 10. I would not refer any friends or family ever to this office after my experience, as I would also advise whoever might read the reviews to do the same. TCD should not be in business they are dishonest unorganized and unprofessional. read more

I had a tooth that had already had a root canal at my regular dentist years ago, that started giving me trouble again recently. My regular dentist said he had exhausted his options on this tooth, and that usually the next step would be to pull the tooth and get an implant, but that he was always in favor of saving natural teeth whenever possible, and so he sent me to Dr. Nguyen. Dr. Nguyen was able to identify the cause and do a laser-assisted apicoectomy, and saved my tooth. [My mother had implants and they were no walk in the park for her.] Maybe someday, as a last resort, I might need an implant, but until then I prefer to pursue every avenue to preserve my natural teeth, and this is my dentist's philosophy, and Dr. Nguyen's philosophy as well. My dentist told me that Dr. Nguyen is very experienced in these procedures. Dr. Nguyen has done over 10,000(!) root canals, and regularly teaches other endodontists and dentists around the globe. Perhaps the thing I like most about Dr. Nguyen though, beyond his skill set and state-of-the-art treatment facility, is that he takes his work very seriously. He clearly understands that he's operating on a person, not rebuilding somebody's automotive transmission.He takes the time to explain everything in detail. His 3D xray CT microscope is amazing, and he showed me exactly where he was going to work, what he was going to do, and why. I am so glad my dentist knew about Dr. Nguyen, and referred me to him. Dr. Nguyen obviously loves the science and technology of his profession, understands the serious nature of his work, and seems driven to excellence and perfection in everything he does. I am impressed. That is EXACTLY the kind of care, diligence, expertise and professionalism I want from someone who is going to work on my body. read more

I gave my insurance information, ID, and medication list to the receptionist and she proceeds to hand me a laptop and had me enter the information myself which annoyed me and I wondered why I was doing her job? The assistant was pleasant but I could not get through the x-rays because the mouthpiece she inserted was too big and was digging into my jaw, I was gagging and tears were rolling down my face. The assistant asked the doctor to come in and try and he was even worse and so rude! The assistant offered to get a child's mouthpiece and he shood her away and told me "if you can't even get through the x-ray than you should find another dentist". I told him "I'll do that", got up and left. I would not recommend this idiot, what a jerk!!! read more

Dr. N is terrible! He seems very nice amd concerned at first but once the process gets started he is rude, abrupt, aggressive, and very dismissive! My 8 yr old had a root canal and was told to raise her hand if she felt any pain or discomfort. During this process she felt she need to raise her hand and was told by the Dr. N that there was NO way she could be in pain and to put her hand down and stop moving... my daughter spent the rest of the time in tears, with him disregarding and poo pooing any concerns she or I had. It seemed he just wanted to get in and get it done with no regards to mine or my daughters feelings... I am appalled and disgusted! Unless you like to be chastised for your feelings, have them completely dismissed and have the person who is supposed to be making sure everything goes smoothly and that you have a good experience, leave you in tears, don't go here!!! As far as Dr. Tuong Nguyen in the Salem office he does great work, but his customer service and he unmedically necessary treatment need to be reviewed by the AMA, he basically told me that it was his way or the highway if I did not get an ultrasound that my insurance would not cover. I was a referred patient who made an appointment for a root canal that should have only taken one hour. He did 17 xrays on 2 teeth, would not treat me for what I came in for unless he looked at another tooth, he saw two other patients in my time slot, He did not start on my tooth for 3 hours. Meanwhile he said its not about the money, while his receptionist was out front telling a future employee in front of other patients that he closes the whole office down and takes them to mexcio for a week all expenses paid. His work is good, his over billing and unethical billing should be looked into. This man is a fraud. read more

Unprofessional staff. I was verbally chastised for calling and canceling my appointment less than 40 hours after I initially made the appointment because my transportation fell through. After speaking to whomever I spoke with about my rescheduling (not Jody, she actually seemed to know how to speak to someone professionally and with respect), I decided to do a quick google search and found nothing positive about this office! The yelp reviews that have been placed in the "not suggested" category as opposed to the ones that are sponsored speak volumes for this establishment! I can only imagine they changed their name from TCD Endodontists to Polaris Dental Specialists to try and change the reputation they have, but you must change more than the name to make a difference in patients experiences. I cannot speak about the doctor practicing here - but I would recommend doing your research before settling as a patient here.. even with OHP, you have rights and other options if you ask! No one should be talked to by a healthcare professional the way I was spoken to. When I expressed, "You don't have to be so rude, this is out of my control", She rebutted, "I'm not being rude just very blunt..." Nobody needs more anxiety from unfriendly staff about going to the endodontist, it's a scary enough place for most folks. read more
