This morning I went to have a root canal procedure by Dr. Jay Bayat. While the procedure went okay, I became very concerned about this clinic's practices. After having my mouth deadened, I was waiting for the operation to begin. No one was in the room with me. I felt a rubbing along my left side while I was laying fully reclined in the chair. There was a large dog next to me. Not mine. He licked the left side of my face. I spoke up and asked that the dog be removed. There may have been cursing. Mine. The dog was removed. The procedure then was completed. At the end of the process, I mentioned to Dr. Bayat that a dog should not have been in the room. He said it was okay with OSHA rules and called me an "angry old man." I'd never consented to a dog being in the room. He also said if I had not been scheduled at the clinic, I would not have gotten an appointment anywhere for three to four months. Upon leaving the clinic, I asked the bill be sent to me as I wanted time to contact OSHA, the Oregon Dental Association, and my Medicare Advantage insurance company. **ALERT If you are expecting a painful Root Canal, DO NOT go to Salem Endodontic. This was amazing. What a great experience. The procedure was quick and pain free. Instructions afterwards were to take 2 ibupropin alternating with Tylenol for several hours. I took two IB's when I got home and nothing afterwards. Did not feel one moment of pain. Avoid if you can. The quality has declined in the last several years - office staff communication skills are exceptionally poor, last-minute "reminder" calls and "confirmations" are usually less than 24 hours, confusion and miscommunication about insurance coverage, and overall rude, condescending attitudes combined with poor verbal skills when trying to schedule, clarify, or communicate with staff. Disappointing because Bayat does great work, but dealing with the staff has been one nightmare after another, and in the end was not worth the hassle and stress. read more

Today my Wife and I went to this business. The day prior my wife went in for an office visit, and consultation. This cost me $360.00. Came back today as they were either going to pull my wifes tooth or do a root canal. They weren't sure which one they would do yet. Upon arrival Tracy the woman up front advised that we needed to set up a payment plan and wanted our credit card number. We both explained we haven't even received any services yet! If you end up just pulling the tooth, (which the dentist told my wife was a 70% chance of doing), we our insurance will pick up the entire amount. Tracy stated if we don't set up a payment plan then they won't do any work on my wife! Tracy is an extremely rude and arrogant person. The entire ordeal felt like I was being strong armed. We both told her lets see what the Dentist elects to do first, then if needed we will set up the payment plan. She basically told us no way, and get out! If you want to feel strong armed, and being treated like crap, go to this place. They won't dissappoint. If I could I give them zero stars, or negative stars. I also am going to be talking to an attorney about getting my $360.00 back. That's just absurd to charge that for a damn office visit. read more

My recent root canal under an existing crown was a positive experience. Dr. Bayat and his assistant were very professional and kind. I was a bit nervous but learned that Dr. Bayat and I shared a connection with Afghanistan. So I asked him to please discuss this during my procedure and time flew by. I was referred to this office with a worst possible case abscessed tooth. It was a molar with four roots and Dr. Christiansen had to work through a gold crown. It took two sessions of over an hour each, and widely separated in time to permit tissue to recover. Advanced 3-D x-rays had to be taken to even find the last root. A nightmare case, but Dr. Christiansen just would not give up until he had completed the job to his professional standards. Near as I can tell, I was charged the normal rate for any molar and was not upcharged when the problems were revealed. Dr. Christiansen prefers a chilly operating theater. You're immobile for an hour, so be prepared---I wore longies, upper and lower. read more

This team is amazing!! I recently was a patient not once but twice. Yes 2 root canals. They are very professional, knowledgeable and made me feel at ease. The best part I was in and out in under an hour! I don't like long procedures and they made me feel so comfortable even laughing through my procedure. I would recommend them everytime!! I recently received a root canal from Dr. Bayat and Kara for an infected tooth, and was pleasantly surprised that the process only took about 20 minutes and was absolutely painless. My dentist referred me to this office for special root canal work. The specialist I saw was Dr. Murata and he is amazing!! He did a root canal on one of my crowned teeth and saved the crown ( not always possible). This is the second time he has done a complicated procedure for me. He did one several years ago and it was also done so very well. He explains what he is doing all through the procedure, keeping you prepared for what comes next. I have been fighting with Tracy for months about billing my secondary insurance. She keeps saying she billed them and made me pay money out of pocket which I have never had to do having double coverage of dental insurance. Today I was informed she sent to claim a week ago. I called the insurance guess what they never received it. She couldn't get me a straight answer on what the bill would be before or after insurance. Today she tells me they don't bill secondary insurance after all the other stuff she has said. I told her to email me the bill and I would contact insurance. Well she can't do that either. She has to mail me the bill. Not at all happy. The dental doctor was wonderful. The ladies up front not so much. Just rude and unhelpful with no upfront cost information to provide. read more

I had a fairly complex root canal done by Dr. Bayat. It took two sessions, and I must say that it was as pleasant an experience as a root canal can be. He is an excellent dentist who, along with being very skilled, comes across as a friendly and caring person. I also want to comment on the staff, from the dental assistants to the receptionists. They were all courteous and professional and helped make me comfortable. Hopefully, I won't need any further root canals, but if I do, I will definitely go back to Dr. Bayat and his staff. read more

I would not recommend going to this dentist. I was referred here by an emergency dentist for a couple of root canals. I went to the office and got a 3D image of my teeth that cost over $100 out of pocket, and talked to the dentist for about 10 minutes. I was given a quote for the work that needed to done and made an appointment to return. After talking it over with my wife, we decided that the bill would be more than we could afford, and I was to look for a different dentist. To be clear; I did not cancel my appointment. Life got hectic and I neglected to call them back, that's 100% on me. Fast forward to my current situation, this dentist is charging me $100 for not showing up to my scheduled appointment. Let me make it clear: I am legally obligated to pay this, as it was stipulated in the "fine print" of the paperwork I signed. But honestly, if a business wants to soak someone for $100 when they've decided that they don't want to utilize their services... In my humble opinion that is just bad business. What I would expect from a customer focused business (and make no mistake, health care is a business in the current paradigm) would be a response more like; "We are sorry to find that you chose not to utilize our services, we hope you will consider us in the future." Instead, I am paying $100 for the privilege of not getting my teeth worked on. Caveat emptor, as they say. read more

I was referred to Salem Endodontic by my dentist to get a root canal done and I am very pleased with the care I was given. The office staff is easy to work with. My procedure was done by Dr. Christensen. He was so thorough with making sure I understood what steps he was taking to fix my tooth. Throughout the procedure he would check on me to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. His assistant was great as well. They make an awesome team. I recently saw Dr Murata and had a major root canal done. I have a 5 teeth bridge and it was a tooth under the bridge that was infected. I really was stalling to get this done. I saw him when I was having horrible pain and my regular dentist gave me amoxicillin and once my abscess calmed back down, I really thought about NOT getting this done. But then I did research and read where this abscess can leak and explode and get into my bloodstream and cause more harm. Anyways I bit the bullet and Dr Murata gave me gas (nitrous) and talk about being relaxed and I was at the appointment 2 hours, but the time flew by and he is such a sweet kind man. I love that he explains everything in detail that is going to happen next. I highly recommend them, the office staff and the dental assistant were all super caring. read more

I had a CT and a root canal performed here. I was given a quote during my consultation that did not seem right and requested that it be checked with my insurance companies before my visit for the CT. They'd assured me everything was good. I paid upfront before each visit the amount quoted and was sent an additional bill for service. When I went in to ask what was up they told me they were out of network for my primary insurance and offered a payment plan as a resolution. The dentist was nice and procedure went well but the lack of practicing with ethics will ensure I don't go back. read more

These people are a joke. I went in to get a root canal to save my tooth and when I went in they took rads on my tooth and when they told me to bite down using my compromised tooth it shattered and instead of doing the root canal they poked at my tooth and used cold spray on it told me its a dead tooth which is why I went in for the procedure and then sent me on my way and told me Id have to schedule for the procedure which I had a referral for to start out with and they made me pay full price. I recently had a root canal by Dr. Jay Bayat. It the 4th root canal I have had in the last 20 years. My experience was so awful that I would not recommend this practitioner to do any type of procedure. It was like his very first time doing this procedure. He was very disorganized and didn't know where items were or what to do. He also had the staff put the temporary on but he didn't come back to ensure that the crown was on correctly so my bite was uneven until I could get into my dentist the following week since his office didn't return my message I left with the answering service. In addition, I received 2 bills within a week of each other, with the second statement telling me it was the final notice and I would be sent to collections if it wasn't paid immediately. I was shocked! And one more thing, staff were not consistently wearing masks, and the Dr. didn't wear any eye protection. This was against infection control procedures and COVID requirements. read more

I went in to finish a root canal that my previous dentist had started.. I was told I needed a 3D image or x Ray on that tooth.. fine I have never had that done before. Then I was told I needed another x Ray on the problem tooth. I explained I had just had multiple x rays done a week before. I asked why I couldn't use those and was told it was just protocol by the dental assistant and that they wouldn't see me unless I was willing to get there's done. I asked to call my husband to talk and within about 5 minutes she was back telling me I had to make a decision immediately. I was then told by the receptionist that they need there own angles on the x Ray and that's why they insist on there own.. fine that makes sense why the dental assistant couldn't explain that I'm not sure.. I am not willing to get work done at a place that is unwilling to explain things and give you what I feel is a reasonable amount of time to make decisions that involve your body.. read more
