I wanted to treat myself to a birthday pedicure and did not want to travel to my home nail spa in Queens. I conducted a thorough Yelp investigation and stumbled upon Polish. This little shop is squeezed into a tight corner of a adjoining shopping plaza on Glen Cove Rd and is easy to miss. I walked in around 1:00 and was taken right away. They have a small collection of nail colors as soon as you walk in. I found a cute pink Hello Kitty Collection shade by OPI. This salon is extremely clean and they practice sanitary grooming here. All the tools were in a vacuum sterile pack and a brand new pumice scrub was used to exfoliate the bottom of my feet. A gentleman did my nails. He took his time and they came out ok. I just wish they would use oil as opposed to cheap lotion on customers feet. My skin shouldn't be dry or chapped when I leave the salon. They lost a star there for me. As well as with the filing and shaping of my nails. It wasn't as perfect as I'm used to with my salon in Queens. Overall this was a very relaxing environment. It's as quiet as a library here. There's a sign that says to be mindful of your cell phone use. I felt very relaxed the whole time. The gentleman gave me the best happy ending massage while I dried my toes. This place leaves something to be desired. First off its stuck in 1997, Please update and create a more pleasant environment for you clients. Decor is old and run down. Blah. I have been several times, loving it at first of course but as I continued to patron the "salon" the quality and service rapidly declined. Firstly they are NOT the warmest people. Upon walking in, you barely receive a smile let alone a greeting. The reception is cold and uninviting. You are demanded to say what service you need and under pressure to choose the color you will be looking at for the next two week (if the manicure manages to last the same day) You are then seated at a less than sanitary manicure table with tools and lotions etc that have probably been sitting in the same crusty bottle for years. Yuck! I am convinced that the tools, in particular the emory boards are used on her, him, and the entire community! Yuck! They proceed to rush through the gel manicure and do 75 other things simultaneously. If I am paying you, concentrate on me... not texting your man or heating up and eating your food in the back...Again, highly unsanitary. I payed for a gel manicure with an extra $10 charge for metallic of which chipped within hours of receiving the gel manicure... like really? Went back following day of business and she re-did the entire set. As I sit here and type this email, it is beginning to chip again. Evidently something is being done WRONG or a step is missing. She was gentle, focused, and very meticulous. She spent a long time on my cuticles compared to other places who are more focused on the quickness of the visit. Ultimately, my manicure looks very nice, but I had some concern with how I was treated. First, the technician working on my nails cut me. I didn't bleed, but she broke the skin enough that whatever substance she put on my hands next burned. Like really, really burned. I kept my mouth shut because I was in a hurry and just wanted it to be over. That was about an hour ago, and my left ring finger still feels painful to the touch. I have never experienced a burning sensation during a manicure until this time. Second, picking the color of my new polish is one of my favorite things. I like to leisurely look over the options while my nails are done. I was not given that option. When it was time for polish, she simply asked what color I wanted. I requested to see the options in the book. She handed me three books, and then stood over me, asking what color I wanted every thirty seconds, until I made a hurried decision. My pedicure was very relaxing, I selected the lemon honey pedicure which the sign said was $29. My pedicure came out good. I was going to get a gel manicure but I didn't really care for the color selection they had. They had "gelish" brand gel nail polish. I went for a regular manicure and got an extra vinyl(something) top coat for an extra $1.50 to make my manicure last longer. She charged me $25.50 for everything and I was like is that for the pedicure too? And she said yes. I was confused but of course wasn't going to argue about the cheaper price. I wasn't super happy with the manicure as there was bubbles once it dried and I also smudged it once or twice trying to reset the hand and feet dryers, the button is under a shelf and I should have been more careful. I love it here. Very relaxing, really cute inside with huge comfortable massage chairs, and it's always spotlessly clean. They have new color options for gel all the time. Last month, I smashed one of my acrylic nails back into the nail bed. The result was gory looking and really painful. Katrina sat with me for what must have been 2.5-3 hours soaking off the busted tip and filing it down with an emery board little by little. The customer service is great. I went to this salon for a mani/pedi the day before a wedding. I got there at around 6:45 (they close at 8), and didn't leave until 8:00. I didn't get anything special (milk & honey pedi, which wasn't really worth the money. The massage wasn't very good, and the girl was *really* slow. So slow, I asked for one coat of polish instead of two because I was getting antsy and really wanted to leave. Not the relaxing experience I'm used to at my hometown salon. Then they didn't give me the basket of colors to choose from for my SNS manicure until I asked for it... 2 seconds later after she hands it over she asks what color. Like girl u just gave it to me i need to see the colors first. For my SNS manicure she used the regular uv gel top coat. She pointed to my callus but despite me saying to do whatever she needed to do with it, nothing was done. I usually get my nails done is NYC (Manhattan) since I live there, however since I had happened to be on the island for work one day, decided to give this place a try. First off the salon appeared to be clean and orderly which was nice, however I was not b far impressed with the overall experience. I had a regular manicure/ pedicure and I as well assumed that the prices were going to be the same, if not less than in Manhattan and that wasn't the case. For a regular mani/ pedi in the city, I normally pay $20 and here it was a total of $35 with tax and had to pay extra for quick dry. Okay, that was not a deal breaker, although a large deciding factor of whether I would return or not in the future. The primary reason, I would not recommend or return it that the same evening the nail polish on one nail chipped/ peeled half way and by the second day, all my nails were chipped. By day three some nailed had chipped/ peeled entirely. A regular mani at my reglar place in the city potentially will chip about a week later but even that is rare. It usually just grows out with some minor chipping. Lastly, I was not sold on the 10 minute back massage I had added for $11 which the masseuse worked her hands so quickly, absolutely nothing about it was relaxing. It instead tickled me and left me a lot more tense that before it started. When I had asked her to slow down, she asked me "How?". What do you mean "How"? Definitely was not sold on the experience or results of this salon. read more

I was hesitant to try a new place (I'm originally from CT and had been going back to get my nails done which I realized was so silly)... but I'm glad I chose to go here. I made an appointment, but there was no one else there when I arrived, so I don't know if an appointment was really necessary. I didn't feel rushed, she took her time and asked what I thought as she went along. I feel like my nails look better than I expected. They are a little expensive, but I guess that's just Long Island lol $30 for a gel fill, $2 to cut them shorter, $17 for the gel polish, and I had 2 tips that needed to be replaced and those are $5 each. So I don't know! I'm looking for a new nail place. I saw this one and decided to go in. On Tuesday and Wednesdays they have a special gel manicures for $22 when its regularly $25. Not a big sale if you ask me but whatever. I walked in and was greeted by all the employees. The place was completely empty, no one was there, which made me feel a little weird because usually that would make you think and raise a red flag... I got a gel mani, the girl was very patient and slow. My nails came out ok. There a little bumpy but none has lifted yet. The corners however are starting to chip, after a week. I didn't like their color choices, so I asked for a French manicure. Now every other nail salon that I've been to automatically tells you, it's this much, extra, extra! Whenever you ask for something. Well I should've know better when she didnt say anything. Is it my mistake I didn't asked, no doubt. For French is $7 dollars, plus tip. So I've spend in the end $35. It's not bad but still. I also looked into a gel pedi and goodness gracious they wanted $42! Just for a pedi!? Now, I don't know how much they go for in other places. But if that's how much it is, people are out of their mind, that's all I'm saying. I also didn't like that they speak there language and seem to be coming up with a price, right there and then. Powder gel peeling/chipping a couple of hours after getting it done. I've gotten powder gel at 4 different salons and they are more expensive than the others and they use a UV gel top coat which makes no sense. That's the point of POWDER GEL. HENCE why it's peeling and chipping after only a couple of HOURS!!! So frustrating. Also, the lady doing my nails made three of my fingers bleed.
