I walked into Polish n Refine in March 2018 thinking I was getting my nails done one time. I hadn't had my nails done in over a decade. Instead, I ended up coming back every 2-3 weeks for nearly eight years -- and that alone says everything. Monica is truly exceptional. I get builder gel nails with gel polish, and her work is consistently beautiful, precise, and long-lasting. But what really sets her apart is who she is as a person and professional. She owns the business and somehow manages to do everything at once -- welcoming clients, answering phones, supporting other techs with their clients -- all while giving you her full, undivided attention. The nail salon had a very limited number of gel colors available, which was very disappointing as someone who enjoys creative colors. They were also unable to apply the builder gel I rely upon to maintain the length of my nails. As apparently only one out of the three employees there was capable of applying it which was quite disappointing. While it has the potential to be a marvelous nail salon as it is in a great location, the availability of services and colors is unfortunately not up to snuff. read more

Every time I visit Monica (the fantastic owner) she absolutely slays my nails. I used to get only Dip powder. My very first time there I wanted to try getting designs. I went in with a inspo pic and we adjusted it to what worked for my nails (shape and sized) and switched up the colors. She educated me on gel nails and using builder gel to get my nails looking the way I used to do by having tips put on. I have not had dip powder (or tips except for when I have broken my nail) since because with the builder gel, my natural nails can grow without getting damaged each time I change polish because there is no soaking off process. She always is so patient when working with her clients and really makes sure they are satisfied with their nails/service. Highly highly recommend! read more

I've had a problem finding good nail salons in the past, but this place is great! I have been twice and will go for my 3rd time next Friday. The only reason that I don't go all the time is that I live up in Malden and Polish n' Refine is too far. I get my hair done down the block, so I have vowed to make time for my nails every time I make a hair appointment. Both times I went, I got a $25 gel manicure and a $25 regular pedicure. The women there are so nice and the job they did on my nails has been perfect both times. My gel manis last a long time. The only reason I've taken off the polish both times is because I had dark polish and didn't feel like filling in the bottom (new nail growth). They would have lasted 3+ weeks if I had. Pedis last a long time too. About 3 weeks before chipping. This might not be the norm, but both times, I've had one person do my gel nails at the same time as I was getting a pedi from someone else. I loved this has it got me out of there quicker. In any case - I will be back as often as I'm in the area as this is, by far, my favorite nail place in Greater Boston! read more

I was in search of a salon to do my nails for my wedding. Before I even mentioned it was a wedding trial, the techs were incredibly attentive in helping me select the perfect color. After several trial-and-error colors, I chose a sheer pink. Two techs worked together to help me figure out the perfect amount of coats to use to get the polish opaque without looking thick. Something I really appreciate is that absolutely no one brought attention to the fact that I picked off my previous gel manicure or that my cuticles were messy and picked at. This happened twice with two nail techs and both times they were just careful to make sure none of the products stung and worked magic in making my cuticles look beautiful again. Other salons ALWAYS give some sort of scolding even if it's just in the form of a "this isn't good" look. At Polish n' Refine I just felt cared for. Trying to find a clean and well maintained nail salon that won't break the bank is pretty hard. I'm willing to try this place again. But next time I'll book an appointment with Lan or Monica (as other reviewers have suggested). I read those suggestions and wanted to see what would happen if I got a random technician. She didn't speak English well so it was hard to explain what I wanted. Though with translation from a fellow coworker, that wasn't the issue. She was a nice person, though perhaps less experienced. What upset me was that a week later, and my nails chipped less than a week later. What a find! I had a regular mani-pedi. The nail technician, Rachel, was ready for me. She is a true artist, carefully applying the polish after giving me a foot, leg, and hand massage, and trimming cuticles. etc. The salon is really clean, and the salon technicians are very aware of sanitary practices. There was a hugh choice of polish colors. I LOVED the extra touches, like giving me a pair of disposable flip flops so I wouldn't damage the polish by putting my own shoes back on, doing the pedicure before the manicure...and then asking if I wanted to pay after preparing my nails but before the polish was applied (I've been to other places where that hasn't been an option and of course the worry is about damaging the polish.) Then, as I was about to leave (my feet and hands had been under the dryer), the owner came over just to confirm that everything was completely dry. read more

Monica is the best Last year I looked for a good nail salon that does good full acrilic set or even a refil for a while ,I tried more than half of a dozens of salons in West Roxbury and Dedham but no luck .so I decided to remove my acrilic and try to let my own nail grow ,If you had to go thru that you'll know how i felt , it was a torture. Long story short over the summer Classy nails got sold and the new owner took over and change the name to Polish n refine Monica ,either work there or the owner I don't know, but she is amazing she does the best full set and acrilic she's very nice and friendly . Great pedicure! While I remain loyal to my usual pedicure in Brookline, I need to have a good "back up" place and looked through Yelp to see what I could find. P & R had good reviews, so I thought I would just take a chance on a warm Saturday (yeah, those happen occasionally in New England) and walk in. While there was a lot going on, the woman said she could get me in but did say it would be with someone who was "a little slow", and asked if that was OK? Fine with me... I would rather have someone take their time than rush through it, and I had time anyhow. She was very nice, great leg massage, and my feet look nice. At the end, another woman came over to do the color (maybe to speed things up?) but all was good and I would definitely return. $25 for the pedicure, and they have a punch card thing (maybe buy 10 get 1 free?). read more

The pumice sponge was literally in shreds and it made me very concerned that they are using a reusing pumice sponges with different customers. I thought those couldn't be reused per health code. Probably the worst gel manicure I've ever had. With that said, I'm trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt since I came with a friend and her nails turned out great. We both had pedicures that were good as well. The manicure itself was good until it came to the polish. The gel polish is all over my cuticles and skin and just horribly done. It's thick and clumpy in some spots and so thin you can see the nail in others. It doesn't even cover the full nail in some spots. I'm pretty shocked they charged for a job so poorly done and with so much competition in close proximity this would probably not be my first choice ever again. read more

I was in a dire need for a pedicure. Recently new to the area I was interested in the good nail salons. After reading the reviews I decided to come here. I received a manicure and pedicure for $34, which is cheap! My friends & I were worked on right away. The pedicure and manicure were good. I noticed that they spent a longer time on cutting back our cuticles than other salons, which I thought was good. The only complaint I would have is that the scrub that she used on my feet she put back in her box. I thought this was unsanitary. I have truly found my new salon! I've been going to various salons since moving to Dedham, and have been constantly disappointed until now. I had a 3:00 pm appointment, and started right on time. Lan did my pedicure and she was an absolute angel. She was meticulous about making sure each toe was perfect, and she is delicate and yet strong when needed, especially on my heels (which I love)! One of my biggest pet peeves about nail salons is when they take walk-ins in conjunction with clients who already had appointments, and then your nail tech rushes through your appointment. SURPRISE, that isn't the case here! Monica kindly turned away 3 walk-ins while I was there because they were already booked.
