Very reasonable prices. The pizza was excellent. The service was great. They have fountain soda and a few bottles of beer. A couple of sides, but not an extensive menu. This is a pizza place. Sadly when I arrived, I noticed the no concealed carry permitted signs on the door, which is enough for me not to support this business. I don't know about others, but if there is a "no guns" sign on the door It is most likely a place I may actually need one, so best to be avoided. AMAZING!!! We are from Chicago, and are picky about pizza. Were in town skiing and arrived back at the hotel with our two kids. Ordered and picked up A MONSTER sized pizza. Total New York style! 20 inch pizza 1/2 sausage and 1/2 pepperoni. Let's just say, we had 1 1/2 pieces left. We inhaled it. So amazingly good. The dough has a slight sweetness. Staying in a hotel and read the great reviews of this place on Yelp. Unfortunately they do not deliver and I had some work to catch up on so I used "Wausau to Go" and got a pizza delivered. Pizza is hard to do wrong, but doing it just right seems to be an art form. Polito's Pizza does a fine job. Smack downtown with limited parking, the atmosphere is hip and lively with all types coming in for bit to eat. Large windows let the sun in, brick walls give it that trendy loft look, and fast moving pizza people behind the counter usher us all along. Three of us ate for 20 Dollars each with drinks and two slices, which was hard to beat. Food was good, exceeding my expectations for what I would have expected this far north. I would definitely go back on my next visit. Parking is limited, so be ready for a walk from around the corner or up the road. Food: Super fresh. Staff: Friendly. Atmosphere: Comfortable and spacious. Cleanliness: Incredibly clean. Price: Affordable. I paid a solid 4.75 for a slice and drink. You enter and approach the counter with your choice of over ten pizzas made fresh by-the-slice picks. I settled for a Philly cheese steak slice with jalepenos. They popped it in the oven handed me my drink paid for my order and it was finished. Premade pizzas just need a kick in the oven. And the taste is out of this world. I was so happy to find a place in Wisconsin that serves sweet tea. What is a pizza joint with out a few arcade machines in the back. They have them too. There are many different creative types of pizza including steak and fries, mac and cheese, BBQ chicken, etc. they also have your traditional pepperoni, sausage, Mediterranean. Today I had a slice with tomato, feta, and spinach and it was delicious. I usually do the mac and cheese because that is my favorite. Never been a fan of food sitting out in a counter whether covered by glass or not. Call me old school but I don't like my pizza experimented with. So I get the basic stuff. However as a by the slice place I've never seen the point of putting all your pizzas out and reheating. It's a business point of doing volume before quality. Maybe the kids can't cook to order that well. I enjoy by the slice places, I'm willing to wait for made to order freshness, my taste homies (buds) are too mature for reheated 25 minute old pizza. Crust is run of the mill, get better in some grocery store selections. Sauce is bland. I've eaten here twice once cause a chick wanted to go here and I was looking to score. The other time I forgot. I'm surprised that no one has written a review. They have a very nice variety of pizzas. This is a cool place to stop in when you are in downtown Wausau. Buy one or two slices and enjoy. My wife and I stopped in to pick up some slices to take with us to a couple of the concerts they had last summer at the 400 Block. Ah, summer! It seems so far away right now. But I digress. With each bite I had to remind myself I was on earth and not in the sublime ether, where I will live forever eating Polito's pizza (because I'm from NY but I love Wisconsin). Unless you happen to be standing there as the pizza is coming out of the oven, they cut it, leave it sit for God knows how long, and when you come in they throw a piece or two, of your choice, in their mini ovens for a couple minutes to bring back to temperature. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't agree with Eric A.'s review. Once I bit into my slice, it had flavor that impressed me for a slice of pizza that's not freshly made on the spot. Yet, they do change out their slices every two hours. I have to say that I am particular with sauce and I thought the sauce was pretty good. One of my faves. I don't know where Eric has gone to have better pizza, but I've been to Italy where the best pizza is supposed to come from. Good and fast service, reasonable prices, and DELICIOUS pizza! While I must say that I wish they'd have more locations that delivered, I often find myself doing whatever I need to do in order to get some of their pizza! If there are any downsides, they are that there's only one type of crust to choose from, which is what most call "Brooklyn style", and that their Wausau location has limited parking. But as long as you don't mind those 2 small flaws, you'll love this place! Very cool atmosphere, feels like a downtown pizza shop in New York, great variety of different pizzas you can get, and all taste amazing! I personally prefer the Mac and cheese the most. They built this place 4 years ago, and I believe it was their 3rd location, and within that timespan, it's grown to 8 different locations already! I would not go so far as to say that Polito's is transcendent pizza, but it does everything, and a little more, than you would expect from a NY by-the-slice place. Which is to say that everything is reasonably balanced in terms of a crust-sauce-topping ratio, ingredients are decent, and the crust is tender enough to have some chew while maintaining the structural integrity necessary to support a large slice. Is it VPN Neapolitan pizza cooked by a master pizzaiolo? No. But it's solid, the staff is nice, and the space is pretty cool and very clean (certainly cleaner than many by-the-slice places I've experienced in NY and elsewhere). However, in the interest of full disclosure, what prompted me to write the review is the fact that Bernard L. gave this place 1-star, inexplicably arguing that he "enjoys by the slice places" but feels that slices should be made fresh and that places that pre-cook their pies should disappear. I just wanted to point out that the reviewer's grasp on cuisine (by-the-slice places all pre-cook their pizzas, I'm mystified by where he developed an appreciation for them if not ones that pre-cook), geometry (pizzas are round; slices are wedges that when nestled in close proximity form a circle, and it's pretty difficult to just make a fraction of said circle fresh to order), biology (taste buds are not your "homies"), and, mostly, sexual reproduction (if you wanted to "score" with a "chick," maybe you should have dug a little deeper and taken her somewhere super classy, like, say, Olive Garden, Romeo) are all pretty suspect. I hope Bernard did not "score" that night, or others (see, e.g., Darwin). But his review should not dissuade you from eating at Polito's. It's just fine. read more

Yum. My darling husband and I strolled in here for lunch today and were both very impressed! The place was quite packed just after noon but people were in and out quickly - tables opened up at a nice pace. I loved how many slice options they had and very much recommend both the supreme and bbq chicken pizza! The reheated slices were great, so I can only imagine how delicious an entire pizza will be. Polito's Pizza is awesome. If you've had Ian's Pizza in Madison than you know what to expect at Polito's. Think mac & cheese pizza and steak & fries pizza. The prices are reasonable and the service is quick. Most importantly is that the pizza is delicious.
