I grew up in Schofield and have fond memories of Sam's. Every time I'm in town, I make sure to stop because it's the kind of pizza that I dream of. The last time I came in May of 2026 the atmosphere, customer service and everything was spot on except,, every single thing that was ordered in my group was burnt. I believe we ordered six or seven pizzas, two or three orders of garlic bread and everything was a little black burnt. They sell premade pizzas Pepperoni, sausage, cheese for $8.50 each. They also sell a Sammy's Special for $ 9.50. Yet when I had three pizzas made up Ground beef/green pepper they charged me $15.50 a piece. It was not explained to me when I ordered that at the most it would cost me $9.50. The manager had a hard time explaining to me why they were more expensive. Don't think I'll go here again. read more

My family and I were driving through and my husband, who loves pizza, found Sam's off his Google search. We like to try different pizza places on our road trips and Sam's was getting great reviews. We are not disappointed! The restaurant gives a quaint nostalgic feel to when we were kids. There's a little arcade, spacious seating area with open viewable cook area. We were greeted right away and welcomed to choose our own seating. There were a few families already seated but the wait staff was very tentative and we got our drink order in right away. After a few minutes with the menu and a bathroom break for the kids, we ordered. Our pizza fries came out and they were hot and beautiful cooked. The crust was crispy and fluffy, cheese melted with just the right amount of garlic salt. My son ordered some of their new wings. They came out a little after the pizza fries. Unfortunately, being a new item they're probably still working out the kinks but the middle of the wings were cold. Our pizza came out and I told the wait staff and asked if they could put them in the microwave. He said he would take them back. Our waitress came back and was apologetic and said they would make us another batch for here or they could box them up to go. We got them to go since we're working with our three year old on sitting nicely and he was not having it. We got our bill and they were so kind, they took the wings off our bill which they did not have to do but it was very much appreciated. We've been to restaurants where constructive criticism was not received well but we're humbled that there is still an established that knows how to treat their patrons right. Not very impressed. There is hardly anything to pick from on the menu. The food that I did get was rather bland and over salted. The pizza was very greasy and the "garlic bread" is just Texas toast and marinara sauce. Not very much effort put into the quality of food here. Not a tasty meal and service was lacking. A small layer of protection from the cheese so it doesn't get all over your hands and gives it just enough crunch to go along with the cheesy delight. -- Square pieces: I just think this is the cutest thing--bite sized pieces. Good-sized dollop of sausage too. - Garlic bread: hot and soft with a layer of cheese if you order it like that - Coca-Cola memorabilia: it's just like my house or a mini version of the Coke museum in Atlanta with the collection of bottles, rugs, cars, plates, etc. This sealed the deal for a match made in heaven for me since I'm big into Coca-Cola collectibles. - Game room: pinball, artic thunder (love this snowmobile game), a little carousel, and all topped off with a with Packer helmet ride. - Open oven area: always like to see em make the pizza. - Ice cream bar: cute little soda-shoppy area with stools where you can get shakes and such. - Friendly staff: our waitress checked in a lot and was very attentive, - Hours: open Saturday for lunch unlike the other location which isn't open until dinner. This one is also opened til 1am which is fantastic for late night eats. Helpful hint: when out, call ahead, go pick up the pizza right before 1am, go back out for more drinks, and enjoy it after your done for the night. ;-) And yes, we did that! - No boxes: leftovers and orders come in a bag vs. the traditional box which I'm sure saves paper. Best pizza in the area! Deliciously thin crust without being the crunchy papery kind of thin. Generous with the toppings. Onions are diced instead of sliced, personal preference but I like that I don't have an entire slice of onion coming off in one bite. The pizza is cut into small squares which is great to just grab and eat. Friendly staff, fast service. Got a whizzer as well (their version of a blizzard/mcflurry type ice cream) and it was amazing as well! Very creamy and consistent with the mix-ins throughout. Sam's pizza place is the perfect place to go with the family, children's outings, birthday parties for kids, etc. The atmosphere is "fifties" and there is a game room for the kids. There are t.v.s if you want to catch a sporting event. Sam's pizza is good, not great. The night we were there, our pizza crust was over done. There is nothing really special about it. My husband wishes he would have ordered a malt while we were there. This was a great place when our girls were young. Not really our first choice for pizza now that the kids are gone. read more

Highly recommend! I usually prefer NY style pizza, but this pizza is outstanding. Thin crust and cut in squares. I ordered a cheese. Ate the whole 12" pizza myself! Crust was crisp on the edges and the sauce was perfect - not too sweet, not too bland. Cheese was superb. Also ordered cheese toast, which was good, but a little too much garlic for me. I was in the Wausau area on business and a friend said there was one restaurant in the Wausau area I had to try. It was Sam's Pizza Palace. I would not say this is the best pizza in the world, but it is defiantly in my top 10. If you like thick crust pizza, this is not the place for you. Their crust is the perfect balance between too thin and hand tossed. There sauce and cheese are balanced so one does not overwhelm the other. They have a wide selection of ingredients and they make sure you have some on your pizza. Even the next day, their pizza was good. The service was great and friendly. This is a small town pizza place, not a chain, you are treated as a friend, not just another customer. I love the decor. I am a Coca-Cola collector, so all the memorabilia on the walls and in cases is worth the stop. The place is clean and large enough for big groups. The make the pizza right out front so you can see the care they put into each pizza. You can only get beer at Sam's Pizza Palace, one of the reasons I did not give it a higher rating. I like wine with my pizza, but that is not the end of the world, they do service Coca-Cola products. read more

My family is from Wausau and I grew up on Sam's. Their pizza is the best - 5 stars all the way. Stopping at Sams is a requirement when we're all in town. Do yourself a favor and go to the original location on Elm in Wausau. The Schofield location is a disaster. We've given it several tries due to the size of our group (Elm Street is very small!) and every time has been a nightmare. Tonight we called ahead and ordered 5 pizzas for pick up. We were told to come pick up in an hour. When we got there they said it would be ready in 15 minutes. Then we were told 10 more minutes. When we checked again they suddenly didn't have our order -which we had already paid for. Extremely disappointing and also not the first time this has happened to us at this location. We've never had any issues at the Elm Street and will only be going to that location from now on. read more

Great pizza! Best family atmosphere that we've seen so far. Cheesy breadstick appetizer is good but looks like something you threw together in college. And the sauce that is served with it taste like someone simply dumped Italian seasoning straight into canned tomatoes sauce. But the pizza is fantastic! And super affordable! We were Sam's Pizza lovers for years. After the sale of the business the new owners need to go back to the original way that they were known for. Ordered a large pizza with mushrooms, beef, Canadian bacon, and onions. Ordered it half baked and picked it up. Cost was now $33 DOLLARS. The beef now looks like sausage not crumbled as before, Canadian bacon comes as large round pieces and before was small cubes. Pizza is not like it used to be. Sam's Pizza is my absolute favorite pizza of all time! The crust is thin and crispy and the sauce is just slightly sweet! We always order sausage and onion with mushrooms on 1/3 (for my husband). Normally at other places, we'd order pepperoni, but at Sam's, the sausage is the best! And the onions they use are also slightly sweet-give the onions a try! It's impossible to pick up your pizza and not drool from the aroma! It smells so good! They hide the mushrooms under the cheese, so we are always looking for which 1/3 is my husband's-but he says Sam's mushrooms are great, and they are generous with them. The pizzas are cut in small squares, not like a pie. And every small piece has a fairly large sausage on it! It's a very unique pizza and we are addicted! You can also get them 1/2 cooked and finish baking at home if you want to ensure it's nice and hot. Also, you can order a day ahead of time and get them partially cooked and frozen! When we lived in the country, we did this a lot from the Sam's in Wausau, but now we are just a few miles away from the Schofield store. Sam's has spoiled us and we never want any other pizza! Stopped here on Saturday late afternoon with my daughter as we were just passing through town and wanted a pizza. Ordered a pizza along with some garlic bread and everything was delicious. Nice crispy thin crust, just how we like it. Staff were friendly as well. We were looking for a low key place to eat on a Sunday with a toddler. Sam's reminds me of pizza parlors from my childhood. They have arcade games in the front, and friendly teenagers waiting tables. Pizza was good, and the little slices gave you amnesia about how much you ate. We didn't have to worry if our toddler burst into a happy song, or played with his Legos at the table. Everybody was pretty chill, lots of families and Wausau locals. Will come again. read more

This place is a classic. I have been going here since I was a kid. From birthday parties to Christmas parties to meeting friends after a high school football game or dance, it was always the place to be. They have great thin crust pizza! It has a classic feel with a game room and the staff wearing white uniforms and the women in skirts. You can watch them make your pizzas behind the counter.
