This is a fast food style Mediterranean grill. We stopped here on the way back home and was hoping to get something less greasy compared to other fast food. The food was okay, served fast, warm. However perhaps we had many Mediterranean food in the past and in comparison Mykenos was lack of flavors in my opinion. We ordered Baba Ganoush,Cheese Pita and a family plate. The Baba Ganoush tasted very plain and it does not have any eggplant flavors. Wished we have gotten the hummus instead, since I felt like all hummus are yummy. The kabobs are also plain tasting, wish we had some hot sauce to add to the flavor. My daughter likes the cheese pita, it's just a pita with sliced cheese in the middle, nothing special. They only have water available to purchase as they stated the fountain was not working. But the apple juice we purchased was from the fountain. The restroom has no toilet paper and after we notified the staffs, no one went and added more. The soap in the ladies room is also not working. They do not offer changing table for toddlers. This was always our go to when we lived in Wausau. Friendly, clean and great food! Our favorite was the gyro sandwich and spanakopita.

We tried takeout and it was glorious! We had the gyro in a pita because it's kind of our test order from Greek restaurants. The meat was juicy and flavourful. There was no weirdness of green peppers or feta on my gyro and that makes me very happy. I'm a traditionalist when I'm looking for Greek food. The tzatziki was awesome. Thick, flavourful and seasoned. No picture taken because I stuffed it in my face too quickly. YUM! I would definitely go and try more dishes from this restaurant. The only reason this is a 4 star review is because I haven't eaten in and have only tried one dish. I will update when I try them again. read more

I haven't lived in Wausau since I was 18 but I still have a lot of family there. When I go back to my adopted hometown for a visit, this is a must stop for lunch before skipping town. Simply the best gyro I've eaten because after shaving the meat, I'm pretty sure they take the extra step of reheating it on a commercial griddle. I like my gyro plain with only meat and tzatziki sauce on pita bread. The meat is hot with the sides touching the griddle slightly crunchy but not dry. The very best Gyro and Greek salad, I've had. Gyro meat seasoning perfect. Lots of meat on the grilled pita bread. Pita bread was warm which added to the dish. The Greek salad had a wonderful dressing. Most of the salads I've had used crumbled feta rather than feta chunks. It's annoying when the black olives are not Kalamata olives so their addition to this salad, along with pepperoncini, lent an additional layer of deliciousness. Typical yet good fries and more than decent gyros. Definitely passable but not my favorite, either. They needed some greens mixed in there if you ask me! On our visit the rice side was yellow but flavorless. We also detested their "honey mustard" - I was in total agreement when my husband urged me to try how terrible it was. We liked their tzatziki just fine though, and that was far more important anyway. The space inside is dated but cozy and very clean. I truly enjoyed Mykenos. I ordered the chicken kabob. You may choose from salad, fries, or rice for your side. I went with the rice. It was yellow rice with a hint of saffron. The chicken kabobs were smoky, lightly charred, and ever so tender on the inside. It was on a skewer with white onion and tomato, alternating. The chicken was flavored with lemon pepper and not overwhelming. Then the fresh, warm pita bread that wrapped everything together. If you came for the décor, this is not the place for you. It's outdated but there's always seating and parking as I found most people purchased "To-Go". The food and price is decent so I will definitely be back. The Con: Lost a star - Service is slow. Went here with some friends for lunch. Walked up to the counter to order. I was expecting more Greek food. A plus - they delivered my food with little wait at my table. I had the gyros plate, which included a good gyro and a weak Greek salad (iceburg lettuce in big pieces, w/ few toppings). Several booths were "extended" with ill-fitting tables and chairs - tacky. This place has greatly improved over the years since opening. The food is really good and tastes fresh. I think the salad could use a little bit more effort, and the yellow rice is somewhat bland, but I really loved it everything else I've tried there. Overall, I really enjoy this place. Their lamb and chicken kabab are incredibly delicious and fairly priced. The pita is lovely and the skewer of grilled tomatoes and onions adds so wonderfully to the dish. I will come back here time and time again to have either one of those. Truly, delicious, the chicken has a slight edge on the lamb as the lamb just isn't lamby enough for me. Their baba ghanoush is absolutely wonderful - truly, some of the best I've had. Mild, slightly smoky and always amazingly fresh tasting. Their gyro is average at best , but gyros are hard to come by in this town. They have Vienna hot dogs here, a wonderful plus that should be noted. It should also be noted that they're pretty delicious and a bit thicker than you will get at a typical Chicago hot dog stand. Here are my issues. One pita for an enormous plate of baba ghanoush. Don't forget to order a second or even a third piece. Their tzatziki sauce is incredibly dull and watery. Their Greek salad is a disturbing joke. Sure the side option comes with a cube of feta and the obligatory kalamata olives, but it also comes horrible bottled Italian dressing! No Greek dressing, not even kind of Greek-ish? It's very salad bar style Italian dressing. The chicken kebab automatically comes with honey mustard. WHAT!? I didn't order chicken nuggets. I thought the honey mustard was a mistake. It wasn't. It actually comes with honey mustard. Ok. I feel like I should take an additional star away for the issues above, but truly, their chicken kabab and baba ghanoush are so delicious that this is a 4 star establishment to me.
