Chicago-style pizza in Central Wisconsin? Yes, it's awesome! I came across a friend's Instagram page when I saw the massive red pie. My husband is a huge fan of deep dish pizza and and we had to try it. This establishment is about 40-miles north from where I reside but worth it. Definitely something we ate with a fork and knife when we brought it home. The sauce is delicious. It's well seasoned with plenty of herbs and spices. Even for its size, I'm happy to report that the middle of the pie was cooked throughly. That was one thing I was concerned with. We've only done take-out twice and didn't dine in either time. But when I'm back in the Midwest, you better believe it's the first thing I'm looking for! On a recent family weekend in Wausau, I stumbled across Ropa's on Yelp and immediately had to put in an order! We got a couple big deep dish pizzas and a few regular thin crust pies for our group and loved every bite! They have a ton of toppings and crust styles, but the deep dish seems to be their specialty. We got it delivered, which went as quickly as could be expected with so much snow on the ground, but they were very helpful with their service. Ropa's is a gem of a place tucked away in a small strip shopping plaza just off the highway. Traveling up to the Northwoods in Wisconsin, we usually stop in Wausau to eat. By luck we saw reviews for Ropa's and decided to stop in. Ropa's is mostly take out and I think delivery but they have a couple of tables in front you can eat on. Various slices both pan and thin crust were on display and we chose both pan and thin slices. Wow is all I could say after tasting them. Everyone wants to refer to Chicago pizza if they make pizza but saying it and doing it are two different things. Ropa's is clearly in the latter group. Great crust, sauce, toppings and cheese make for an outstanding pizza. Staff is super friendly as well. Only wish would be for Ropa's to be more if a restaurant with a larger seating area. Delivery Pizza took a long time (2 hours) and was cold on arrival. We called and we were given some credit towards next time. Pizza was pretty good after heating in the oven. Thank you to the owners for your response.. the pizza was great.. We understand that running a business is hard.. We were more inclined to leave a review because we were met with a lot of resistance when calling to tell the manager that our pizza was cold and late. After having several lunch slices over the past year, with deep dish slices only on Fridays, I decided to order a whole deep dish pizza for dinner. Inside Chicagoland, you could not get away with topping a deep dish pizza with anything other than pepperoni or sausage, but in Wausau all the toppings are available. We added green pepper, onions, along with pepperoni. Traditional, very flavorful tomato sauce topped our pie. The thickness was half of what I have had in Chicago, and the crust was unusually bland. We were in town staying one night for Special Olympics state bowling. Decided we wanted pizza, but didn't want Pizza Hut. We decided on Ropa's as half of our family wanted pizza and the other half wanted boneless chicken wings. We were a little apprehensive due to the negative reviews on the delivery time, but decided since we had nothing else going on, to order Ropa's. We ordered thin crust canadian bacon and pineapple pizza and boneless wings with ranch dressing. We ordered on-line....super easy! Feedback on this....the delivery time stated 50 minutes, but it was more like 1.5 hours. I realize if they posted 1.5 hours it might freak someone out, but I can see why the reviews were negative. This is a hard one.....not sure what I would do on this. Regarding the food....the pizza was delicious. The crust was the perfect thickness. It was crisp and done perfectly, no burnt edges as sometimes you can get with pizza. The sauce was really good. Not too sweet, not to salty. Bonus...the crust to sauce ratio was spot on. Sometimes thin crust can get soggy and messy if using to much sauce. The pineapple was in the perfect size chunks and the canadian bacon was diced...my favorite. The boneless wings were good, my family really enjoyed them. The ranch dressing was amazing! Overall, the food was worth the wait and the driver delivered with a friendly greeting and included paper plates and napkins! No, neither my wife, uncle, or father's cousin's former roommate are from Chicago, so I do not have the "unique" qualifications of other reviewers. I just know really good pizza when I put it in my mouth, and this is it. Cheesy, tasty marinara, quality toppings, and a perfect crust. I agree that you probably don't want to stay in the tiny dining area to eat. I also agree that quality takes time, so if you're in a rush, go get some generic pizza from the nearest run-of-the-mill pizza chain and eat in fifteen minutes. But if you're willing to wait for good food, support local businesses, and pay a fair price for a great product, check this place out. And if you're going to get all bent out of shape when the pizza doesn't arrive the moment you expected it and they don't throw themselves to the floor to apologize, then you just don't understand how small delivery businesses operate. They have a couple drivers, and they estimate the time it takes based on present business. If the phone rings off the hook with other orders that need to be delivered in the same area as you after you hang up, what do you want them to do? Start calling everybody back and saying it might take a little longer than they first thought, or start making pizzas and delivering orders? If you want the fast food experience with corporate lackeys bowing and apologizing the minute something isn't to your liking, got to a fast food restaurant. So why four stars instead of five? The wings. These were the standard Sysco anorexic chicken drummies in the same generic hot sauce you'd get anywhere. Don't go for the wings unless you really need a fix. You guys really need to consider all the negative feedback about delivery time and work to hire more people, or change ur business model so everything isn't from scratch. I'm a huge fan of your thin crust pizza, its my favorite here in Wausau, but every time I've ordered (at least 8 times), you are never on time, not even close. Always claim an hour for delivery, and it's more like 1.5-2 hours which is ridiculous and unacceptable. Dominos delivers in 20 mins. It's now a Thursday evening and it's been close to 1.5 hours. Last time the pizza took nearly 2 hours and I called and was told the delivery guy was in an accident...very hard to believe. Ordered delivery on a Monday night. We were told it would be an hour, instead waited an hour and a half. We called them after an hour or so and they said it was on the way. No apology was offered. Now, we're from Chicago so if we know one thing, it's pizza. First the pizza wasn't even warm and it certainly wasnt hot like it should be. The sauce was mediocre at best and the crust was bland as bland could be. The pepperoni had a decent taste but nothing spectacular or anything worth returning for. There are other pizza places in town that are much better options (ahem... Politos). To summarize the experience at Ropa's...the customer service is non-existent which is really a shame. As in, you're the one who gave the ETA on the order so if I call back, be decent about the mess up, slow service or whatever. The pizza was sad. We won't be returning. read more

However this time ordering, the lady initially said it would take an hour and a half to get the pizza. The time comes and still no pizza, we call, and they said the driver just left. 30 mins later, call and the lady was really quite rude and frustrating... arguing saying it was only so and so minutes since we called last.
