So this is a local favorite and their chicken is really good. The service can be spotty depending on who's working. The biggest issue is consistency. You go this time and it's great and next time it's ok at best. If there are two menu items I would recommend not to miss it's the puffs and the corn pudding. Both are delicious. I really enjoy going to Pollard's Chicken, located just off South Battlefield Boulevard, in the heart of Chesapeake. One of my favorite items is the Chicken Gizzards. I love the seasoning that they use and they cook them to a crispy brown deliciousness. Their Fried Chicken is just as amazing. I have tried many of the sides but the Green Beans and the Collard Greens are my 2 favorites. The puffs are also really good, especially when they have a little bit of honey on them. Just nasty! Barely breaded tenders are dried out and desperately need seasoning. Mashed potatoes seem like packaged, dehydrated mix as was their chicken gravy, bland. The corn was BROWN and each kernel deflated and smelled of canned corn. What has HAPPENED to this chain! read more

A very nice lunch today at Pollards with a quarter chicken white meat and two sides. The chicken was super hot and delicious, I poured on some of the hot sauce that was at the table and skipped over the corn bread today. Cole slaw was cold and creamy and pretty good, but it did need some pepper to give it flavor. The collard greens were decent but very mushy. Clearly, the hit here is the chicken. Back in the day this was my go to spot for fried chicken and delicious sides. Sadly, they aren't the Pollards they were back then. Many years ago I would have rated them at five stars but today they are just pretty average. They aren't bad but they're not great, a solid three stars. On my most recent visit they were properly observing COVID-19 protocols. Staff is friendly and polite, takeout service is efficient and accurate. There's no worry about parking as the large lot shared with the rest of the businesses at Glenwood Square provides plenty of space. The lot is well maintained and generally free of debris. Getting in and out is convenient with multiple access points, one of which is controlled with a traffic light. read more

Every time that I have ordered from Pollard's the order has been wrong. What I find interesting is that the error never is in favor of me. My order is ALWAYS less than I paid for... three out of three is quite a record. This evening I received exactly HALF of the chicken I ordered. When I called Pollard's, the young woman who answered really put in some effort in letting me know that this half order mix up wasn't at all important. "All complaints go through Uber Eats" When I tried to explain the error was Pollard's, Not UberEats, she stated "Maybe they'll fix it, if push comes to shove" and hung up. Now the phone has been busy for 22 minutes. Obviously off the hook and they have zero intention of fixing their error. Dont waste your time or your money here. read more

Good but not great chicken. You won't taste any spices in the breading, and they don't have any biscuits. They have fried dough they call "puffs", which is better suited to adding honey they serve than hot sauce (I like to soak my chicken in a biscuit with hot sauce!). Overrated and overpriced. The chicken is ok nothing special. The sides we got are awful, the instant mashed potatoes with chicken gravy has no flavor, the Mac n cheese is below average. The puffs are just fried donut holes full of grease. Would have gone to Popeyes if I had known it was this bad. I do not recommend Pollard's. Probably even worse than KFC. At almost $4 for a slice of cake or pie is laughable. The 8 pc we got for $21 wasn't worth that much money. This is soul food without the soul. read more

They only time I come here is after church, which is rarely, and which it also gets crowded easily on Sundays, many other church goers. Its hard to find seating. I felt like we were the only minority group of family that was different, but whatever. As long as we are not treated differently, then I'm fine. We usually get the family package of 8 pieces of chicken and 2 sides: Mashed potatoes, macaroni. I wished they had rice bc i need that with my chicken (Asian people problems). To be honest I felt like I had better chicken at KFC, the chicken didn't seem thoroughly cooked, bc you can see pink and the meat a bit chewy, and the tate was just mediocre. They do also serve chicken gizzards, which I have tried before. It's pretty good, my dad and I like to order that. Overall, I'm not a huge fan of this place. This evening I used DoorDash to grab dinner. In my order was a large order of gizzards. There were other items but I want to focus on this. DoorDash delivers and I placed the items on the table to begin separating and plating as everyone has not yet arrived. I noticed the gizzard container was not even half full. I called the battlefield location to ask if something changed regarding the large sized order she immediately snaps at me asking me how many gizzards are there. I count 9. Oh I forgot to mention it's almost closing time and when I called she hung up. Then I call back. Ok so then she sets the phone down to complain about my call. I hear the whole conversation of her telling the person she knows the order is right because she filled it! So let's circle back. Did I say it was wrong? Does she even know that I was calling to ask a question? No because she was straight up not listening. She reminded me twice they close at 8. She spoke over me while speaking and completely overlooked the purpose of the call. She rants off my total order and I stop her to say my other items are fine you're not listening to me. She finally says well what do you want me to do we close at 8. I then finally started to tell her and she cut me off again stating she can give me an I owe you but that's it we close at 8! Guess what y'all they close at 8 and she still doesn't know my issue. If you are one of the few making it all the way through this horrible experience thank you for reading it. Please check out my profile you will notice I never complain about a single thing I find the best out of every bad scenario but unfortunately this one took the cake. There is absolutely no way to come back from this. Now the question is do I recommend this restaurant well actually yes I do their food is very adequate and enjoyable. I will continue to go to this location and I will continue to give it poor scores as far as service goes but the quality of their food is good and anyone who's anyone knows that this company is a great company and is probably completely unaware of the petty intolerant employee they trusted with their loyal customers. Oh by the way I offered to take a photo of the nine gizzards that were in the container they literally did not consume even half of the Styrofoam container lined with aluminum foil that they were delivered in I wish I did indeed take the photo. I live in Baltimore Maryland and I love this place! My sister lives in Chesapeake and took me there to eat and the food was absolutely amazing, from the fried chicken, to the southern side options, The Mac n cheese and fried apples, Sweet potato pie, I give all 5 stars. My favorite here is the puffs and honey. Omg I brought so many puffs to take back home I wish I could have them sent to me they are so delicious. Pollards has never been a 5 star eat-in experience but they are a ten star eating experience! Food is always fresh and great tasting and they have accommodated many of my last minute requests for bulk chicken and sides with ease. Conveniently located next door to our music lessons at Quality Music, this has become a weekly routine stop for us. The food is consistently good and freshly prepared. I have tried crab cake, fried chicken, baked chicken, clam strips, fried shrimp, but my usual has become the pulled chicken barbecue plate. It comes with two sides (I always get green beans and cinnamon apples) 2 hush-puppies and a "puff" with honey. The puff is almost like a doughnut, but its bread. All good!
