Sardi's has better rotisserie/Peruvian chicken, the rotisserie chicken is FAR from their best dish. However, their steak + shrimp combo and shrimp linguini is VERY good. The presentation makes the food extremely appetizing! They are extremely stingy with their mild/spicy sauce, it's an inconvenience to have to ask + pay .50 per (extra) sauce every time. It's not about the money - it's the service. The cashier (same cashier every time - small, petite lady) acts as if you're bothering her, her attitude is terrible. It's almost as if they want you to pay extra for sauce - their sauce containers are the size of a big toe + never more than 1/3-1/2 filled. Annoying. Peruvian chicken is such a common theme in this region that it's difficult to find a place that stands out, that's actually better than average. This one manages to do so. Unassuming, located in a strip mall next to an auto parts store, you kind of know what you're in for. Chicken, Peruvian style, two sides, about ten bucks. Been there, done this. Then you bite into the chicken. It's perfectly seasoned, juicy, and flavourful. It's really good chicken! The sides are great, too. I love their plantains. Cooked well, not too sweet, just delicious. The yuca doesn't taste like bad French fries, but is a unique and rich flavour -- as it should be. This is one of the best Peruvian chicken spots in the region. Hands down (chicken up). read more

I was a huge fan for a long time but after recent visits I have noted the rotisserie chicken is very dry and not as well seasoned, the plantains are dry and hard where as they used to be nicely carmelized on the outside and soft in the middle, and they used to use the large green beans and now use the French style thin ones that are over cooked mushy though still flavorful. So I have been a regular at Pollo Cabana for quite some time now! Among my many favorites at this restaurant are the roasted Peruvian chicken of course, in addition to the plantains and fried yucca. Their spicy green sauce and sweet and savory white sauce are also two of my favorite things that I get whenever I eat here! This past weekend I was driving in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat, I stopped here and wanted to try something new. To my surprise, they revamped their menu and added in many new additions! So I ordered the steak Quesadillas to go! Now talk about deliciousness! The steak was fresh and whole, there were peppers inside, fresh melted cheese and the Quesadillas were stuffed with ingredients on the inside! Pico de gallo and a side salad was included, and I cherished every single bite till the last one! The staff is very courteous and friendly, with quick and prompt service! She had an attitude because I brought back my salmon which was semi raw in the center. They cooked another one, STILL raw in the center. I asked for my money back for that order. For me, Sardi's is not the end all of "Peruvian Chicken" because I've lived in Miami where offerings like Sardi's are a dime a dozen, a lot cheaper, andddd a lot better as well. For those reason, Pollo Cabana stacks up just as well--if not better--than Sardi's. The chicken, rice & peas, and plantains were all very fresh and well-cooked, the facility was clean, and the staff was extremely friendly. I know everyone in the DC area is obsessed with Sardi's so the lines can be outrageous, making wait time a little frustrating. This place is by no means as packed, but I was amazed at how quickly they had my meal ready. Only gripe is the price. Same exact price point as Sardi's with the $8 1/4 chicken meals. Always loved the chicken, used to visit for lunch often when I worked in the area. But they recently added more Peruvian dishes including my favorite lomo saltado, which is tasty and authentic. I like how they even have a pasta variation, I prefer the original but it's really good as well. Service is always good and food is always fresh. I came in around noon and it wasn't really busy and gave my To go order. I got the quarter dark with black beans and rice with chaufa (Peruvian fried rice). This is more of a 3.5 star review. Food is pretty good and I've gone back several times. Thus far, I've tried: 1) The pollo chicken quarter meal - chicken was a little on the dry side, but well flavored. On the breast, couldn't even eat most of the wing because it was so dry. 2) Lomo Saltado - flavorful, but dryish. Asked for more sauce the 2nd time I ordered and it was perfect. 3) Sides: plantain - one occassion was delicious, another dry and unripe. Rice - good. Beans - ok, need more flavor. Fries - ok, nothing special. 4) Dessert - have only tried the rum cake which was pretty good! Service is decent and portions are good. The lomo is definitely enough for 2 meals (Unless you're a 250 lb linebacker). Overall, I do recommend this spot. read more

I've been to quite a few pollo places, and this is one of my new favorites. We got a whole chicken to go, and it was super tasty. Since we're doing a lower carb diet when we can, we decided to just get a side of beans. The beans were good, but a little watered down. The chicken was tender and flavorful. It was noticeably less salty than most other chicken that I've had, which is nice. We didn't try anything else, but from the flavors of the foods that we did try, I'm willing to give the other dishes a go. The green sauce was good, but I could have used a little more spice. The staff was super nice, service was quick and with a smile. I will say that it was pretty empty in there when we went, but it was also like 8PM when we went in there. It is super close to home, and in the Greenway plaza, which also has a Safeway, Radio Shack, Petsmart, Ross, Hair Cuttery, Old Navy, etc. Typical strip mall stores. My nose led me to Pollo Cabana. No lie. I was hungry, and figured that their must be a place to eat in this strip mall (I'm not a local, I was staying at a nearby Holiday Inn). As soon as I stepped out of my auto, my nose caught a whiff of rotisserie chicken. I looked around and spied Pollo Cabana, and BAM!, the next thing you know, I was inside. Pollo Cabana has a large menu, each item highlighting a protein either slow-roasted in the rotisserie or grilled in the open kitchen. I opted for a southwest chicken wrap. Dang this thing was delicious. Delicious and HUGE. I ate it all, but if I lived nearby, I would have saved half and brought it home for lunch another day. It was a deal, too. This place has legit Peruvian rotisserie chicken, and the rice and beans and fried plantains that I had were pretty delicious, the plaintains weren't overly oily like some places make it. The chicken was cooked well, nice and juicy, but could be a little crisipier, though. The flavor was pretty good. They have a wide selection for those who want more than just rotisserie chicken, I saw wraps, salads, pulled chicken?! cool. They also have a huge drink selection--not really on the Peruvian side, but there was a lot to choose from. This place is overrated! It's definitely not what it used to be. I waited in line for 20 mins. There were about 4 people in front of me. They had one lady ringing people up and two others prepping and cooking food. Te two others would bring the lady in the front togo containers with food and just leave. The lady behind the register had to take the orders of folks standing infringe of her, take payments, bag 10 orders, grab sauces from behind, call out order numbers that were ready for other folks to pick them up and attend to carry out orders ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! When I finally got to the register I order 1/4 chicken but they didn't have white meat and their veggies were limited according to the cashier!! I waited another 15 mins for my food just to go home and find the veggies were so salty! They were inedible! I had to trash them. The chaufa rice was good but the portion was so small. The experience I had there today while on a business meeting with my manager was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The owner, whom I was unable to get her name, was extremely rude to me when I inquired about the lack of toppings on my order. I ordered a Caesar Bowl with everything on it, under the impression that tomatoes would be included. I opened my food only to discover a caesar salad with rice and beans. Not a big a deal... so I went up to the cashier to ask for a side of tomatoes, and was told that tomatoes do not come with this specific bowl and that I would have to pay an additional fifty cents. Then I was quoted that I would have to pay a dollar for the tomatoes. I politely explained my mistake in ordering and asked for the correct bowl that came with tomatoes free of charge, both bowls priced at $8.99. The owner or manager then, in front of other customers in line, loudly stated that she would not correct my order because I did not want to pay an extra dollar for tomatoes. She stated it was too late for me to correct my order because the food was already made. She then proceeded to approach me and raise her voice at both me and my colleague. She yelled that I was wasting their food and money, and had the audacity to point her finger in my face and put her hands on my shoulder. We politely asked her to lower her voice and to refrain from touching me, and asked for a full refund of the meal. It is unfortunate because my first experience was good, although she was not there. I enjoyed the Amarillo Chicken bowl and was planning to use this establishment for our catered work events. So I am left not only disappointed but upset at how disrespectful the management was to me in front of more than 10 customers. All because of my request for some diced tomatoes.... On the bright side, there are plenty of Peruvian restaurants that will ensure I am satisfied with both their quality of food and customer service. read more

I've had lunch at Pollo Cabana several times and the food is pretty good. So far I've had the Southwestern Chicken Salad, the Cabana Style Cobb Salad, and a Cabana Chicken Platter served with two sides (1/4 Chicken Dark, Fried Plantains, Mixed Fresh Veggies). I can honestly say that I've been pleased with each meal I've had and look forward to trying other items on their menu. Right now I think my favorite meal is the Southwestern Chicken Salad, which I highly recommend trying. Both salads are fairly large and you will definitely be full once you've eaten it. I've actually had half for lunch and half for dinner because they give you so much. The customer service is not bad and there usually isn't too long of a wait. I love Peruvian food and this place always meets my expectation! I look forward to trying other items on their menu. read more

i used a groupon here and i've been here a total of about 4 times. If you have been to Sardis in College Park, you will probably be disappointed, but for the sake of pollo let me explain. I think the biggest down fall here is the lack of traffic compared to Sardis , whether that's due to location or due to quality. With little traffic , in the 4 times i've been (around dinner time) , Pollo Cabana's chickens are not as 'fresh' nor are the sides. Things seem to have far less turn over compared to Sardis where sides and chickens are constantly being refreshed because of the demand. The chicken itself is good i think but a little dry(er) if comparing to Sardis. I've had their beans+ rice, coleslaw, plantains, and yuca. Yuca at Cabana is quite nice and on the level of Sardis! I think they do them well here whatever that means. Sauces: Yellow sauce is good, but a little more mayo based and thick. Their green sauce is super hot in comparison to Sardis too. They do not provide enough sauce here in my opinion. Price: it's cheaper than Sardis , who i think as of 11/12/14 (today) raised their prices. Personally if i have a choice, i wouldn't go to Cabana over Sardis, but with a groupon and if im in a tight schedule and need something super close to where i live, Cabana isn't bad. read more

However, this place is a convenient, quick, and healthy option in Greenbelt if you can't make it up to Sardi's. It's very clean inside, and the menu is easy to follow. I like that they have some options beyond the standard Peruvian chicken menu items such as salads, wraps, and bowls, with toppings that include roasted red peppers, olives, or nuts. The problem is that the chicken is dry and not particularly well-sasoned, and everything I've tried there has been extremely bland. Tried it because of a rebate offer and I was in the neighborhood. Not impressed at all. The chicken skin was smokey, but tough and impervious to the plastic knife. The meat underneath was slightly overcooked and bland. I wound up tearing the meat apart caveman style. The black beans were quite good, but the rice they topped was dry and chewy. Mixed vegetables were fresh, but rubbery. 2 on my scale is "fuel", usually reserved for highway rest stops. My advice for Peruvian chicken: go two exits north and eat a Sardi's. read more

Also I would rather not have the dry leftover from lunch fried rice make a new batch of those coming in so late lunches and dinner.
