    Curry Goat Roti

Close to Burger King and NASA. We tried the curry goat roti and coco bread. Both were huge and just okay. The curry wasn't complex in flavor and the roti tasted oily and flavorless similar to jerky toughness. I wouldn't come again but it didn't job. This place is probably best for jerk and sweets.

    Hairy ass food.

Do NOT waste your money here!! Not only are the portions small for the pricing, but I found MULTIPLE hairs in my curry goat. They DO NOT offer refunds. There are much better places in the area, I heavily encourage you to spend your money elsewhere.

Visited this place a few times this summer as an alternative to my normal Jamaican cuisine spot. I was referred to try this place and going in I did not have real expectations other than to fix a craving however I left with a feeling of gratitude. One thing I like about this place is the food seems fresh. When experiencing Jamaican food in the DMV sometimes it can be a dice roll but and when you find a good restaurant it becomes a go-to especially if they are consistent. Sometimes you can tell food isn't fresh when it is loaded with salt as a preservative or to restore flavor. Weakness For Sweetness seems to pass the freshness test. My first experience this summer I thought perhaps the food lacked the full flavor I am accustomed to however after that first visit it was clear to me that other Jamaican restaurants simply were over seasoning their dishes. Another thing to note is Weakness For Sweetness spares no open space in the to-go box. They fill the to-go boxes with food. Every time I visited this summer I was able to save some of the food for leftovers. I ordered Large both times. Actually my wife and kids were able to share two large meals. They also sell baked goods here however I probably won't purchase any more sweets from here because the cakes don't seem to have the depth of flavor and sweetness I am accustomed to. It could be a cultural thing but I expect a bit more from pound cake and lemon cake. I tried the cakes on two separate occasions to confirm. The cakes tastes good but again just a bit short of my general expectations. For me there are options at other places to meet my sweet tooth. I want to talk about the customer service but again I recognize that generally many Caribbean restaurants in the DMV aren't known for their interpersonal friendliness. At Weakness For Sweetness I've tried engaging the older lady who takes the orders and packs the food and honestly the interactions have been very dry however I know the respect and appreciation is there because she always is very deliberate and intentional when thanking me as she hands me my food and depart. My last visit this gesture was bit of a relief because her interaction with me was rather cold up until that point and I wasn't sure if I rubbed her the wrong way or if she just was having a bad day. Overall, this place is good and one which I will return. To date I have tried the following dishes from Weakness For Sweetness: 1) Oxtail 2) Brown Stew Chicken 3) Curry Goat 4) Plantains 5) Rice & Peas 6) Beef Patty 7) Strawberry Mango Ginger drink 8) Lemon Cake 9) Butter Pound Cake

I walk in and to my surprise I did not expect for Chef Lou himself to be standing there to wait on me?! It's kind of like going to Wendy's only to be greeted by the little red head girl with freckles?! (Don't know why I get such a kick out of stuff like that). The bakery (no lie) is about the size of a handicap bathroom stall and is designed for pick up orders only. Chef Lou was very pleasant and talkative. We hit it off immediately. He gave me a complimentary mini sweet potato cake with cream cheese icing. While in the car I took a bite, then another. I could taste hints of orange and lemon, the cake was moist and very firm. The cream cheese frosting was made by scratch. I was impressed, this bakery does not cut corners when it comes to ingredients. Chef Lou also specializes in catering international cuisine such as Mediterranean, Indian, and Caribbean. His cakes are amazing; you can taste the love put into them! The strawberry shortcake was so dainty and the strawberries were fresh. My mom and all her church lady friends were tickled pink! Chef Lou is now my resident baker, I will no longer drive into the city to buy a fancy designer cake, now knowing that I have a gem right here in my own community!

However, I was able to finally make it this time around, about half an hour before closing time to see what they had to offer. Chef Lou Parker has been a chef for about 30 years and had this location for about 14 years. He is a really nice guy, and we had a great conversation in regards to the desserts and catering services he offers as well as him trying to offer a 'personal chef/intimate cooking classes' for those who are interested. He apparently caters to the World Bank, NASA, as well as conventions down at the Verizon Center, so I thought that was pretty impressive (he stated that his specialty is 'oriental' food, so I thought that was kind of funny). The place itself is small, so it's only a carry-out or where you call in to get your orders in. He offers pastries (cinnamon rolls, brownies, canollis, eclairs, etc.), pies (lemon, raspberry, French apple, sweet potato, etc.), fruit tarts, cakes, sheet cakes, and ice cream. They had some limited dessert selections, and I did ask if the goods were baked fresh daily (the answer was no, but he did state that they were still fresh) and which desserts were the most popular - Chef Lou stated that pretty much everything in the case, so we got one of each! They were all 'individual-sized:' sweet potato pie, strawberry shortcake, carrot cake, a brownie, a cinnamon roll, a chocolate cupcake, a chocolate-glazed doughnut with sprinkles, and a square bread pudding. My favorite out of them all was the strawberry shortcake, as the shortcake itself wasn't overly sweet and was fluffy, while the macerated strawberries was delicious and a great complement. The others were forgettable, as they were a little stale/too dry/a bit flavorless for my taste. It seems as if this is a favorite local place for grabbing some bargain desserts, for catering services, as well as cake orders for events. I'm glad I was finally able to try this place out! +strawberry shortcake

Parking is challenging at peak times. The selection of baked goods is varied and fresh. The line to buy items can get long. There's a decent-sized space to "eat-in", should you want. The sweet potato/chili/pistachio bialy is quite a creation, really like it, zings big time. I've never seen that flavor combo in a bialy before and hope they keep making it. The gingerbread with meyer lemon glaze has a very deep ginger flavor that's quite memorable. Not as keen about the breads. The parking lot is crowded and a bit of a mess. Coming on a weekend meant waiting in line, and it was not a speedy line. The selection was interesting, but they were struggling to keep up with demand. I ordered the last piece of multiple styles of baked goods, which I suspect was upsetting for the people behind me but which was a decision that worked out well for the recipients of my haul. The loaf was richly sour and the butter I got with it tasted cultured, the other pastries and things I tried didn't quite leave the same impression. Maybe coming at a less busy time yields a better selection.
