Yesterday evening (1/23/2022), my fiancé had the unfortunate experience of finding a blue rubber band in his order of Shrimp & Broccoli, after getting home to sit down and eat his carryout order. I warned him against patronizing this place after our last experience, where the Shrimp & Broccoli we ordered had "brown sauce" that looked like brown gelatin! This indicates to me that the food had been sitting for a while. Nevertheless, he decided to give them another chance. After discovering the rubber band, he contacted Kenny's to let them know and was told to "bring the order back". Now I don't know about most folks, but with the price of gas and COVID, who wants to keep running in and out of the house to drive 20 minutes to return an order? My fiancé isn't a "new customer", so they know his name and number, but I guess his "word" about the rubber band wasn't good enough. We stopped ordering from Kenny's for about over a year ago because the food quality declined after Ms. Kin's departure. Two weeks ago, we decided to give it another try. While it wasn't up to the high standards we remember, it seemed to have improved. However, today's order was disappointing again. The General Tso's chicken was bland and tasted more like orange chicken. The beef and broccoli, as well as the combination fried rice, were just plain bland. It seems Kenny's has cut back on herbs and spices, making the food taste like it was boiled with minimal seasoning. With rising prices, I believe the food quality should match. How have I not discovered this place sooner?! Oh yea, because they were not on Grub Hub haha. But I am glad they were added to the Grub Hub because this place is great!! I ordered delivery. Each time we've ordered we've had to wait AT LEAST 1-1.5 hours before getting our food. This time we ordered at 8:30pm and got our food close to 10pm. Even still we tipped $5 to the delivery guy and proceeded with our horribly late dinner. Low and behold.. my boyfriend finds a small roach looking bug right on top of his pork schezuan. GROSS. This place has gone down tremendously over the last few years. I don't even think it's being operated by the same family from years ago that I've grown to love and be accustomed to. During my last visit, I ordered some pork egg foo yung. I got home and I immediately regret ordering it. It seemed like it was missing something. The meat lacked major flavor and the pieces tasted like it was dried out. That probably would explain why the pork had a difficult time cooking with the eggs. The gravy didn't taste that great either. So much so, that the next morning, when I decided to heat it up and give it another shot (and I heated it up for a long time too), the gravy stayed in the same hard form as it did when it was in the container. I'm sitting there trying to break it the gravy with my fork and I eventually gave up because egg foo yung gravy isn't supposed to do that. On a previous visit, I ordered 5 chicken wings and I was at the very least not impressed by what they had given me. It appeared that they fried them incorrectly. Maybe the grease wasn't hot enough to cook them. Maybe they haven't changed their grease in quite some time. The texture was way too chewy and slimy compared to the chicken wings I've gotten from them in years past and from other carryout spots. The good thing is they still give you a very large portion of food for the price and that statement still applies to their infamous steak and cheese subs. It's still enough meat falling off of the sub for you to make another sandwich. Their name is a misnomer, because 90% of the dishes are "chinese". I'm not sure I would even try their sub. I ate here three times in two weeks since it was convenient. The lunch special came in the square styrofoam to-go container, one dinner entree came in a round plastic container like Olive Garden's soup container, and one dinner entree (shrimp fried rice) came in the typical Chinese to-go rice foldable box. The food a great deal for the average price of $5-6, and I've paid more for worse. I think they make everything to-order, as you have to wait about 15 minutes. I guess I chose the wrong Kenny's Sub Shop because their stead and cheese was so dry and they used cheddar cheese! I've never in my life had a steak and cheese with cheddar cheese. Usually it would come with provolone. But not this one. Not only that but the cheese was barely melted and there was very little mayo which is why the sub was so dry. The service was good. Pretty good food for what it is. It is one of the better carry-outs in the neighborhood. A coworker recommended the chicken wings one day and from then on, it's been a go to on our "carry out night". Lately they've been forgetting our order. We'll say add this or no that, and they'll add it or not do it. One of my favorite things here is the steak and cheese. It's plentiful in size and just good. I first discovered Kenny's Sub Shop over 20 years ago when I lived in the College Park area, surprised to see it was actually a Chinese take-out with American foods (subs/sandwiches/wings, etc.). I decided to give it a try, as I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to General Tso's chicken, and wanted to see how theirs stacked up with the rest. I liked it well enough, although it's slightly different than what I would consider the "classic" style, as the outer batter/breading portion is a little softer, sweeter and syrupy. It doesn't have that classic deep fried crunch. Still, on the flip side the chicken inside is quite meaty and substantial. Other places I've had this dish had a delicious crispy breading, but not much in the way of chicken. Kenny's became one of my favorite establishments that I went to on a weekly basis. I do still make the occasional trek every few months (even though it takes an hour round-trip!), and it's nice to see their quality has remained consistent. Their prices are quite reasonable, and you do get very generous portions. Usually around lunch time it does get busy and crowded, and there's not much standing room space inside. Nonetheless, it's fun to watch the cooks do their thing, and just listening to the deep frying sounds, or the sizzling and clattering sounds of cookware on the griddle and woks adds much to the "greasy spoon" atmosphere. They do have great specials as well, which you can get a hot/cold sub or wings, fries and bottle of soda for $7.25 (price as of this writing) -- a very filling meal. I've had the steak and cheese sub (one of their most popular items), as well as various cold subs and even the gyro combo, all pretty good for a "comfort meal" fix. The establishment itself is pretty much a no-thrills place; it hasn't changed too much after all these years. It may look kind of dingy inside, but it's probably from all of the years they've been there. So many stores and restaurants have come and gone at the Cipriano Square shopping center over the years, but fortunately Kenny's Subs remains as it still has a lot of repeat business to this day -- including me. :) read more

A Chinese woman cooks well back there but there are a few cooks in total, never know who you will have cooking your food. Meifun was terrible. Way too salty. Noodles were under cooked. I would give five stars if there was reliable online ordering and if customers could reach the restaurant quickly when issues arise. I suppose the problem is that they are too busy even with 2-3 numbers working at a time. I might also add their strange predilection to include complimentary "diabeteas," which, loaded with sugar or not, is a tea that is extremely sweet to my taste and I can never drink. I might suggest that if they are going to offer anything free, they offer the customer a selection of complimentary drinks/appetizers, whatever is economical instead of just the one. Recently went back and wanted to reiterate how much I love this place. One of my favorite shows growing up was WMAC Masters (http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=wmac+masters). I remember being so thrilled as that arbitrary power bar would drop and their ki-symbol would explode. My favorite was Ho Sung Pak b/c 1) he was Korean, 2) he was in TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze, and 3) he had really poofy hair, kinda like a Korean Zack Morris. Then one fateful day, an older kid from my parent's church's gooyuk (area) came over w/ his parents and he laughed at me as I sat with eyes enthralled, sweating at the prospect of Ho Sung winning the dragon belt and he muttered those fateful words: "It's fake." Like finding out WWF was fake. Like finding out Santa Claus didn't have all the keys to apartments in the world (we didn't have a fireplace, so my Santa had keys). Like finding out that doing Kim's Karate doesn't mean nobody will bother you. No matter how many times it happens, finding out that something you love is fake initially feels like a real punch to the gut. But wanna know something? After the initial shock wears off, I couldn't care less most times. Heck, dudes know that most women in magazines are not only shaking what their momma gave 'em, but what Dr. Bigjugs, or Dr. Airbrush gave 'em as well, and they couldn't care less. I still watched WMAC Masters and I still watched WWF/E. Even though I knew Santa Claus wasn't real, I still pretended b/c when you admit you don't believe, you don't get presents from him. Food - This is how I feel about Kenny Sub Shop. Is it real Chinese food? Not if you ask a Chinese person. But that doesn't change the fact that the food here is cheap & tasty. The 3 wings + fries combo ($5) + extra mambo sauce is still my go-to order. And I found a new use for the sauce + wing cartilage from Lester K. - use them to brush your teeth. The lunch specials are still off the chain, as evidenced by all the kids skipping school to get some grub. $5 still gets you coronary-waiting to happen, so you can use all the money you save on food to pay for your bypass surgery. Location - cash and carryout only. Service - orders are ready within 10 minutes. During lunch hours, it's best to order ahead as they have tons of orders to fulfill. Must make a fortune w/ the volume of business they do mitigated by divvying income between seven or more people working at same time. Place is confined -- small waiting area; deeper working kitchen but with hardly any aisle room. Gives the appearance of a real dive but food is pretty darn good and I've been back & back & back. In fact my favorite Chinese carry out. Wasn't going to write anything about Kenny's but it's worth adding two cents. Order over a threshold and they add an egg roll or a tea-lemonade drink. Don't know what the threshold is--they just do it (unless I've been picking up the wrong orders). Door is a bear to open for my wife & me; they know it and will assist missus. I get the feeling that this Kenny's specializes more in American Chinese dishes as opposed to the one in Rockville where they have limited chinese food and more people get their Subs. Regardless, it's okay. I can never finish the food cuz it's drenched in sauce and it's so heavy, but you get what you pay for. The driver calls me stating he can't find my apartment building, turns out the "employee" who took my order gave him the wrong address. Which I wasn't to mad about, but wanted to speak to a manager about the matter: especially considering I had experienced it before. The lady who took my order turned out to be the manager. She wouldn't even allow me to voice my complaint, was very rude, and even hung up on me multiple times. I wouldn't be ordering again, nor would I recommend anyone else to do so. First let me say I have a new go to place in Greenbelt. Kennys is tasty, generously-portioned, and very well priced for what you get. Everything tasted great. The only reason it gets 4 and not a 5 is the General Tsos was mushy and I prefer crispy. No one seems to get that right. That being said, my combo was gorgeous - what felt like three pounds of chicken and rice. The chicken was good, the sauce VERY good. Following the other reviews, I got a steak sub and chicken wings. The steak was heaping as promised, and the wings very tasty. The dumplings were plump and well fried. I got a combo entree, dumplings, 3 wings, half steak sub and 2 additional free egg rolls all for 21.00 bucks. Very solid. Great food at a grest price. Try it! read more

Surprisingly good carryout. Not just that but if you go in you actual get to see them make the food right in front of you, so you actual get to see what you're eating. Everything here is hot, fresh and tasty. The steak and cheese had way too much steak , it was just pouring out of the roll(I'm not complaining). The crispy orange chicken was exactly that, crispy with a hint of orange but no too sweet. The broccoli that was included even seemed to be soaked or cooked in orange, they were awesome as well.
