Oooooooo! I was craving a shrimp quesadilla with sour cream and jalapeños. This wasn't the Lauriol Plaza Seafood quesadilla but the shrimp quesadilla was full of yummy shrimp, peppers and onions and had good flavor. I'm so full! I could only eat one piece. I was able to sample all the sides I ordered and they were all delicious as well. My French Fries were piping hot and the plantains were my favorite. Definitely check this place out! They have an extensive menu with yummy seafood options. I placed my order over the phone and the young man who took my order was welcoming when I arrived. Not sure how I have never been to this place considering I literally live right down the street and love all things Latin cuisine. Located in Fairway shopping center, plenty of parking. Signage says "chicken". I ordered two papusa revueltas and black beans. Papusas are my jam! These days this warms my heart and my belly. The papusa like most places comes with slaw and a sauce. The slaw is yummy but I also prefer mine with a bit more spice so I don't generally use my own sauce. The papusa was delightful but came a part as I was eating it, I'm not used to that. Please do not judge a book by its cover. This small unassuming restaurant offers amazing food!!! My wife, who is very picky about her food, ordered the chicken quesadillas. If you are a person of a certain age, you are familiar with the "Mikey" commercials. Well, this was that moment-she gave her meal a robust thumbs up and declared that this is now a "go-to" place for her. I had the whole fried tilapia and was equally impressed. The shrimp are teeny tiny though so I would definitely make them with bigger shrimp. It tastes good I'm not gonna complain. It would be helpful if they cut the quesadilla into smaller pieces. I first noticed this style of char-broiled rotisserie chicken some years back, when Crispy & Juicy opened up on Rockville Pike. I liked it well enough, but it is one of those things you've got to be in the mood for. I would go for months before I had a craving but when I do, I wasn't always in Rockville, so I started keeping an eye out for places like this. Crispy & Juicy is Peruvian style, or so I'm told and there are a couple of other places much like it, but with different names. Since they weren't outstanding or noteworthy, i can't recall their names offhand. I first saw signs in the neighborhood, and they looked rather amateurish, but I've learned not to judge a book by its cover, and that definitely applies here. Silvestre Chicken is Salvadoran style, and it not only offers the signature bird, but a nice range of other dishes from fajitas (beef, chicken, shrimp) to sandwiches and tacos using a variety of grilled meats and whole fish dishes. All of the ones I've tried have been very good. Aesthetically, it isn't much to look at- sort of reminds me of the carryout places of my youth on Long Island, but its clean, there are booths and tables, a TV that's usually tuned to a Latin channel (mostly futbol, or soccer as we call it here in the States lol) and there's a cooler with drinks and desserts inside. I've never gotten either of those, but I'm sure they're what you'd expect. Service is always polite, and fast. Very fast. There's barely a wait time if you're just looking for chicken, which can be paired with rice, salad, grilled veggies or steak fries (which are very good). The wait for a steak dish is somewhat longer, but nothing ridiculous. They have a limited option for dipping sauces, and I get the impression those are handmade, as are the tortillas used for the fajitas and tacos. It is a family establishment and I get the impression there's more than one but whatever, it isn't a chain so far as I know. The food is erally good, the service is as well. If you're into this type of cuisine and you're nearby, this is the place. Look no further. read more

A welcomed new kid on the block, Silvestre Chicken is located in the formerly situated KBQ Chicken in Fairwood Plaza. They specialize in rotisserie and authentic charbroiled chicken. It's a modest dining area with only 5 or 6 tables, but you can also call your order in for take-out. The woman behind the counter taking the orders was very friendly and patient while taking the orders. She was happy to answer any questions about the menu I had. All of the menu items that I ate were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The rotisserie chicken took the cake for me! A smokey and well seasoned chicken, all cooked within its own juices to keep it moist and juicy. Please note that if you order the rice, it's not your average white rice, but yellow rice with peas and corn - very good flavor. The chicken burrito is big enough for two meals. They stuff so much yummy goodness inside it (chicken, rice, beans, lettuce, etc.) they can barely close it. Chipotle who? Lol The prices were also rather reasonable. Since the business is brand spanking new (at the time of me writing this review) they are running some food specials that you should check out. It's a welcomed addition to the area and I can pretty much guarantee with the amount of food that they give you, if you come in for lunch, you won't even think about dinner. Silvestre Chicken! I'm not exactly sure how long it's been at this location but this is my first time actually going to this particular chain of Peruvian style rotisserie chicken restaurants. There are several in and around the areas I'm sure most of you know and still seem to have the same common theme which is obviously rotisserie chicken. I was blessed with the rank of elite Yelp person and I'm going to milk this thing till the cows come home! It's all I got! :-) So I ordered half Chicken special which is well for those of you who are slow half chicken, a wing breast a leg and thigh. The half Chicken special also comes with two sides. In an effort to make my meal quasi healthy I ordered green beans and my staple beans and rice. The total price for the special was $8 99, with a 99 cents upcharge for adding the beans to the rice. :-( I also ordered a couple of pupusas. One was just cheese the other was chicharron and pixel pork and cheese. Now I am new to pupusas and I took the opportunity to try the popular treat. Best way to describe a pupusas, well the Gringo way to describe a Pupusa, is it's like a small quesadilla made out of Masa. The Masa is filled with cheese and and roll flat and then fried and as a little crispy edging. The pupusas as you can see from the photos are round jobs and have good Browning on them. They're soft, pillowy jobs with a filling inside that is melted tastiness. Pupusas came with some type of coleslaw in a weird tomato sauce in little bags that were tied up and I couldn't untie them take a break in the sides of them and of course the tomato sauce liquid flew all over. :-( I wasn't a big fan of either of the slaw or the sauce. I'm not experienced enough with the pupusas to know if this is what you come with them normally but for me didn't do anything to make it taste better. The string beans house good flavor. You're not overcooked like some places do. They taste like they may be fresh they have a lot of life to them. They were seasoned but I like my string beans a little more seasoning then was put on them. But that's my taste. By themselves I think most people would say they are acceptable The beans and rice was also surprisingly season well! :-) the rice was cooked well, not crunchy and underdone and the beans what cooked through I didn't have that mealyness undercooked beans can have. And I think I taste a bit of pork seasoning? You know? That umami flavoring taste that you get from Porky goodness? It's alive in these beans! Better than other places but have similar menus. The chicken itself had a good flavor in the skin. The meat of the chicken was tender and because I had all four pieces I could sample each. Like most places with rotisserie chickens, the wings were a little dried out but the leg and the thigh were darn tasty. The breast was a little dry but that's what you get with chicken breast so I wasn't surprised at that. The skin once again was nice and cooked you know? Not rubbery like you'd sometimes get when the skin of the chicken is it treated respectfully. Enjoy the chicken. But it is a lot of chicken. In fact it's a lot of food! And for $8 99 it is a good deal. If I were to compare it to other similar rotisserie chickens I got to say I think that's Silvestre least in this case took a little more time preparing my food. On the flip side it took about 15 minutes for my food to be prepared which would be a negative, except the pupusas had to be prepared and cooked which is why I probably took so long. Other customers who just got rotisserie chicken came in after me got their food and were gone before I was probably because of the pupusas Curt So I'm getting Silvestri 5 star rating for now because I was impressed by the quality of the chicken the size of portions and overall I'll probably be back! Finally I don't know what's up with the weird mayonnaise-based sauce that they have. All of the Peruvian chicken places have it and I'm not sure about it personally. Ok, so let's start with good and work to the bad lol... the salmon is AWESOME. I'm not sure that it's on the menu, but I called and asked for it and they had it. I was pleasantly surprised! I usually drive to Sardi's for salmon, but this is better and closer! Now... the shrimp taco ugh. As a California native, my expectations were not high... thank God lol. I've been a fan of Silvestre from Suitland to Largo so I decided to try the one in my backyard. Well, it's more like down 450 and to the left, but you get the point. They need to work on the aesthetics of the restaurant. It's nothing to write home to mom about. It's very hot inside. They have make-shift air conditioners trying to keep the place cool to no avail. There are four tables and a tv if you prefer to eat in. No one ate in during my visit. Anyway, I ordered my usual, the fajita mixta, which includes steak, shrimp and chicken with peppers and onions served with rice and salad. It's on the specials list for $10.99. The usual price is $12.99. The fajita was absolutely delicious! It was well seasoned, plentiful and pretty much on point with the other locations. The yellow rice was cooked perfectly. I would have liked for the salad to be put in a different container but I quickly took care of that when I got home. I also ordered the sweet potato honey bun cake for dessert. They offer several varieties of honey bun cake ( rum, strawberry/lemon,chocolate, sweet potato, coconut, pineapple, etc). These cakes come from a black-owned company called the honey bun cake factory. It's sweet, moist and delicious. You have to try it! I'm glad Silvestre made their way to my neck of the woods. This chicken is seasoned "to the bone" as my father-in-law put it. The food tasted like someone's grandmother was being held hostage in the kitchen. And they have quesadillas, enchiladas, salads, sandwhiches, and much more. You can feed a family of 4 for less than $20 bucks and it's good food!
