The chicken arrived cold, Dry as cardboard, and tasteless. Though I ordered a selection of sauces for the chicken, NONE were delivered. Side of boiled yucca with garlic sauce was hard, dry and had virtually no garlic taste. In sum, all food tasted like it was cooked in the morning (perhaps a day earlier) and left standing on a counter all day. I phoned to complain and request the sauces but finally hung up after 15 minutes on hold. Zero customer service. Strongly suggest you avoid this lousy company. A local took me here and said it was a "very Miami" place. I will say the chicken was good and seasoned well. The sides are just flat out terrible. Rice that sticks together, beans that are bland, etc. Not a lot else more to say than that. I realize cheap food options can be slim in South Beach which is probably why they do well. The service here has really declined over the past year. Everyone that works there looks so miserable. Waking in is so depressing, no one greets you or is slightest bit attentive. Went through the drive thru for a simple order for my family. When I asked for sauce the young lady taking my order named Samantha had SO much attitude for my simple question. If you people do not want to work here's a thought... QUIT! Stop spreading your negative energy to your customers. Great fast food place in south beach , great chicken dishes the best for the prize around here and you have real fresh grilled food for 5-8 bucks compare that to bad food at mc Donald's for more money . I never had a bad chicken there since 10 years . The sauces are great too. One thing is almost every day they are lines till out the door and only one cashier ! And to the management this place needs an upgrade at least paint job and daily cleaning . Plus the homeless situation in front of the store ... Filthy is only word to describe the place... I came in at 10 pm and it looked like a homeless shelter. Left behind food trays were everywhere. I counted 6 people behind the counter moving in slow motion while one who must have gotten off earlier was leaning across the counter discussing what was missing from her take out bag. The only rice available was yellow and it was slung everywhere in prep area... along with whatever else they served. The counter where you place your order had receipts, used sauce cups and food which were there when I arrived and remained after I left 30 minutes later. The pumps that dispensed sauce on the the condiment bar were broken so customers tried to use them grasping napkins. It is the dirtiest place I've ever seen in Miami Beach. I want to start by saying that, I LOVE POLLO TROPICAL! I grew up eating at this food chain. In my past experiences, the food has always been good, the service good (at most locations), and the prices are great! However, today that simply was not the case. I went with a friend for lunch and there was a bit of wait, which is expected, finally got to the register to order and there was a young lady named Stephanie taking orders. Let me tell you about Stephanie, as I waited in line, I saw her picking her nose and putting her finger in her mouth as well, that is pretty gross. She was rude from the very moment I walked up. She avoided looking at me throughout the whole transaction and had an attitude. I walked away feeling like I wasted my money with that kind of service. My friend ordered after me and received the same treatment from this person. He did say something to her about her attitude. She was clearly bothered and expressed that "she did not want to be there", and it showed! As my friend and I wait for our orders, another gentleman walks up to order and she was even more rude and nasty to this poor man who was simply asking her for specifics on his order. I had had enough, so I asked her who the manager was, she pointed at a lady chopping chicken and as if it wasn't already TERRIBLE, the manager asks what the problem was(with a less than polite and professional tone) so I expressed everything to her about Stephanie and the experience I had and she was giving her customers. She simply pulled her aside and shared some words, she never bothered to apologize to me nor did the manager approach me at any point to try and correct the situation, but then she left this person on the register to continue to be nasty to their customers. The manager later on was heard yelling at her employees in a rude manner for all to hear. To top it off there were no salt shakers at condiment station, literally had two little bowls with spoons in it, they had no napkins but a roll of bathroom paper towel. This is BY FAR the worst experience I've EVER had at any of my visits to Pollo and definitely one of the worst experiences I've had ANYWHERE. We went on a Friday at 830pm. Hands down the worst experience I've had at one of these!!! I've been eating pollo tropical FOREVER and I love the place. Therefore I too am most sincerely offended at what's been done here. The chicken was as dry as sand, parts of the rice were clearly undercooked and the plantains were absolutely DISGUSTING!! Whatever lazy and/or cheapskate manager that thought freezing uncooked ripe plantains and just to thaw and fry them later was a good idea (and that no one would notice) has soarly mistaken and frankly should be SERIOUSLY reexamined in their leadership role... and then demoted. The workers were unprofessional (clearly being petty to each other and overall like misguided children) and the experience itself arduous. Wow some of these reviews are unnecessarily harsh. The place is big and clean-ish for how much volume they do, and centrally located among places that are both less yummy and way more $$. The staff was obviously harried during the lunch rush but really warm and pleasant. Line was LONG but moved right along. Food was greasy but delicious-- it's possible to eat pretty healthy here. (Which I obviously did not do but if you're into that sort of thing, you could do well here without any of your less-fit friends complaining.) You order your food and to actually get your food takes over 45 mins, I seriously do not know how the owner or manager have not done anything to fix this problem. Chicken was actually pretty good. The side orders need lots of improvements, rice was saggy, beans were basically cooked down to water, yuca was bland. The Caribbean soup (sancocho) was not authentic but it was pretty tasty with lots of verduras from central and South America, seasoning was also spot on. Where else can you get lunch for $4 and change (and be full), without feeling like you consumed 1,200 calories? Feeling hungry after a friend stood me up for lunch, I hesitated coming here due to the construction madness on Alton Road. Stupid me, I came anyway instead of grabbing some shorts and a tee and walking over, or driving to the Pollo location in Edgewater. Getting here by car was a mission, due to traffic being diverted to West Avenue as Alton's all torn up due to construction and installation of the water pumps. Ordeal over, I tried parking in their lot, but they have a measly 12 spots or so, and there was nowhere to park, so drive-thru it was. Okay, I can live with that. The girl at the drive-thru had a bit of a smart alecky attitude when I asked if she had included the sauces I requested. She just nodded and kind of raised her eyebrows at me. My bad. I didn't hear you tell the other employee to include sauce in the bag. I said "thank you" and "have a nice day" and didn't hear anything back from her. Okay, bad day, we all have them. I drove home and although my order was correct (yay!), the chicken quarter looked like a cornish hen's quarter because it was so dry and reheated so the meat had shrunk down, rather than being fresh, juicy and plump. I was about to give this place 3 stars until I saw the chicken. It was a bit ridiculous. Also, 75% of my soda was ice. Very messed up that I essentially, paid for less than half a cup of soda and could not get refills and on top of it, was being bamboozled with the illusion of a full cup thanks to the ice. Plastic eating utensils were not included either. The Silver Bluff location gives you tons of sauce, styrofoam plates, and plasticware, all without asking. Pollo Tropical is a great option for a fast, somewhat healthy meal for very, very reasonable prices. But the location on South Beach leaves a lot to be desired. Let's start with the positives - free parking, a drive-through, and filling meals for under $10. But unfortunately for this location, the negatives abound. It's just pretty much gross on the inside. There's a ton of people working there, but the place is never clean. The salsa bar - home to all their awesome sauces (curry mustard, guava BBQ, cilantro garlic and more!) - is a downright mess. The pump-serve containers are half-empty, which results in more messiness as you try to grab some for your meal. For the containers that are just open in general - just, no. On my most recent visit, the yellow rice in my Tropi-Chop was clumpy and mushy, and it was just an overall unsatisfying mess. If I ever return to this Pollo Tropical, it will only be due to an urgent need for a quick, cheap meal. read more

So Pollo Tropical is probably my favorite fast food in Miami (ever since I had to give up Chic-fil-a, long story) and I will eat the heck out of anything on the menu. Unfortunately I do not think this chain has found a way to make cleanliness a core value of their establishments. I am still on the hunt for one that actually meets health codes. But for the price to quality ratio I will keep going back for cheap, healthy fast food. Chicken is amazing, I am obsessed with their ceasar salads, yucca is delicious, the sauces are awesome. Unlike other reviewers, I have always found the counter help to be incredibly friendly, although sometimes orders get back up but that can happen anywhere. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone start policing that salsa bar and the bathrooms! It skeeves me out that I continue to frequent a place that gets so dirty. read more

So when we got here, I was informed it was a Cuban version of El Pollo Loco. I was excited to see that there were so many different sauces that we can dip our food into. First, the person taking our order was very unpleasant. It was our first time there and she was very unhelpful. She had a sour face on, and when we ordered, she said no.
