Even the fried okra, which should be an easy Southern staple, was disappointing. We left wondering if they changed chefs or management because the difference from our first experience was shocking. Even my mom, who is far from a picky eater, could barely eat her food. It's genuinely upsetting because this used to be a place we loved and enthusiastically recommended to others. And I pile of wood that suggested serious smoking. As you might expect the place is a little rough. Well, not a little rough, really rough, but the food (proteins) is superb. Everything is ala carte, you can pick and choose your proteins by the pound or rib count. Sides were available but we decided to get the chopped salad. When asked what we wanted I responded with "everything." That ended up being 1/3 pound smoked chicken, smoked pork and brisket, and a 1/2 rack of ribs. Superb flavors that were even enhanced by the three bbq sauces available - spicy, sweet and mustard based. Each sauce was distinctive and flavorful. Salad was only ok. It was big but nothing special. We should have tried some sides. Some looked very good. I saw a loaded potato that turned my head. We ate outside on a picnic table. No music, no table service, no bar ... nothing but good food. Highly recommend. Come dressed for battle not the prom. And come hungry.
