We gutted our entire landscaping, removing the sundried grass and overgrown planters to put in artificial grass, a paved porch, and drought resistant plants. Polo and his crew just transformed my garden and I've received unsolicited compliments from my neighbors. My one neighbor even asked him to come do a quote for her when she saw his work completing. In three days, they pruned my fruit trees, overgrown shrubs, rebuild my garden bed and added a pergola in cedar + rebuilt and got my fountain working again with a new pump and rewiring. They pressure washed my pavers and stone walkway, resanded, and sealed them as well. They took out an unsightly old rosemary hedge and installed butterfly bush, African iris, star jasmine and more + removed and replaced the old bark mulch so it looks brand new. Polo and the crew really came through and delivered exactly what I expected. The front and side yard of my corner-lot house have been neglected with dead junipers along the borders and broken sprinkler valves. I decided the fix this time would be to replace the dead plants with drought tolerant new plants. I got several quotes and asked about how the heavy compact clay soil could be amended for new plants to grow better. Most landscaper told me they had rototillers to loosen the soil up to 18 inches. Polo mentioned he could bring an excavator for an extra 300 and in the end he still had the best price for the whole job. The work spanned over two days and I checked in many times to understand how the crew did the work. They fixed the sprinkler valves and wiring for the side yard. Two new drip line valves were added in the front for the new plants along the border. Additional issues were brought to me. The sunken water meter concrete lid in the side yard was raised to be level with the ground surface. A decades-old galvanized steel pipe connecting the valves to the house was rusting away underground and had to be replaced. The crew had an array of power tools to get the job done. Digging holes through the clay soil for 1 gallon and 5 gallon potted plants was made possible by a 2-person auger and a power trench shovel. I might have been overly attentive to the whole process compared to other homeowners. The crew and Polo probably preferred just showing me the end results. For the quality work that Polo does, I have to say his pricing for me was quite modest. Polo has had years of experience working on big projects and now he's started his own new business. Knowing now how he pays his crew by the hours and how much I paid him, I understand how it can be difficult as a business owner to pay himself. For anyone considering any landscaping projects, know how the size of the crew matches your needs so they can deliver the best value for everyone's time and your money. I know my yard still has other issues with the lawn and I need to plan for more repairs and maintenance. For what I asked for, Polo's work met my full expectation. read more

He put in a red common brick in cement border around a tree in the bay yard. He suggested detail cut corners and that looked so much better than just parallel bricks. He showed us the bill from South Bay Supply where he prefers to get bricks for 90 cents each, instead of red common from Lowe's or Home Depot at 43 cents each. And he left behind the company's hose spray nozzle we have left on the porch for weeks. The new lawn border is level and looks great ! read more

My wife read great things about Polo's Landscaping in a neighborhood mailing list of recommended contractors so we called him for an estimate along with a few other contractors. His estimate was well priced and well thought out. As we went along he mentioned other options for our consideration, but was not pushy. When we agreed on terms and started work, his team started the next day and worked for about 10 days straight. All were professional and responsible. Polo was very open to either work with other contractors I might wish to use for some related plumbing and electrical or make suggestions. In the case that I went with one of his recommended contractors he guaranteed the quality of the work with the promise to fix it if anything was not done correctly. The work we had done by Polo's Landscaping was the following: 1) Added complete sprinkler system in back yard including controller and everything. 2) New sod (grass) installed in yard. 3) Brick sidewalks pulled up, ground leveled, foundation added under sidewalk, and sidewalk bricks replaced and sealed in a better pattern than before. 4) Removed some unused flowerbeds to increase grass area. 5) Dug 2 foot trench for installation of underground electric, plumbing, sewer, and water to a wood shop building in my back yard that I am planning to make into a guest cottage. Our overall price did come in higher than we originally expected, but I consider this my own fault. During the job, my wife and I thought of a couple of extra things we needed and Polo worked them in with a reasonable cost. He also did make a few recommendations that I did decide to go with and I am glad I took his advice in all respects. For example, he suggested that the brick sidewalk be re-laid with a herringbone pattern rather than the simpler alternating directions it had previously been laid with. This involved extra work and cutting of many bricks and the edges and did add to the cost, but the result is better than I could have hoped. Polo was not pushy on the suggestions, but instead respectful of my wish to keep costs down, but cognizant of certain things that would cost more to do later. He did a number of things that were above our agreed contract essentially for free to (in my opinion) keep the overall job quality up to his standards. For example, he used a sealer on brick sidewalks that was a higher quality than I had specified. And when he heard I was planning to add sprinklers in my front yard next year, he made sure the sprinkler controller and all related elements of the sprinkler system accounted for the later addition to make it simpler when the time comes. After the job was finihsed, since it is easy to kill new grass, Polo has kept coming back to check on the grass and sprinklers every 2 or 3 days to make sure all is well. In a few small cases he has changed a sprinkler head or made minor alterations to fix any brown spots that were starting in the grass. And day before yesterday, he called me concerned saying my current lawn mowing company had cut the grass in a couple of ways that were not good for my new grass and he had someone come and do the job to his standards...at his expense. I have been extremely satisfied with Polo's Landscapiing and especially Polo himself. I have confidence and trust in his work, his pride of workmanship, and his opinions about what will look good later (at the stage when it is hard to visualize the end result). I will definitely be using Polo for the remainder of my landscaping needs next year. Thanks. read more
