I initially got my front yard designed by another company but they were charging us way over our budget. We got several quotes from other companies and decided to work with Tony. His team did a really good job and finished the job on time. He did take care of timing to pour concrete, chose appropriate days so the concrete can dry properly without rain messing it up. Tony and MS Gardening took on our landscaping project this year. We had a full re-landscaping in mind for our entire 5000 square feet backyard, court yard and front yard, and this was simultaneous with our indoor remodel. Since we live in an Eichler, our goal was to create a seamless design that would work well to improve the indoor-outdoor living experience. Tony gave us a really competitive quote and understood our intentions and style. Tony with team demolished all our old concrete and landscaping. His team did all the groundwork for the new concrete driveway, walkways, and retaining walls. Tony managed a subcontractor who poured all our new concrete which turned out exactly the way we wanted it. Tony and team then prepared and installed all drainage, drip water and sprinkler systems, outdoor lights, built two large flush Ipe decks, built a custom bench as part of one of the decks, picked up plants all over the Bay for us, planted plants, installed gravel, and advised us about our existing mature trees and their maintenance. Tony told us the project would take 3 months and he finished up within that timeline, which is very impressive. Choosing to work with Tony was the best decision we could have made. This is his own company, so he takes true pride in his work. Tony is honest, patient, kind, communicative and he is a man who keeps his word. We have been so impressed by how he has handled stressful situations with incredible patience and has always kept his spirits up. That has helped us to remain calm as well throughout a stressful remodel. We are very particular clients and Tony has always been respectful of our wishes and design intent. I'm writing a revised post because of subsequent events. Yes. The initial result was what I described... BUT 1. We discussed placing gravel on the new walkways. - When I called to discuss this further (several times in the course of a few weeks.), I was placed in voicemail. - I left a message. No response. - There are now weeds and "volunteers" appearing in those paths (because there was no barrier set up to prevent this from happening. 2. In fact, when I did have the work done (in April - see my original comment) I had asked to have some other pieces moved etc and that was ignored or overlooked. At the time I was so pleased with the improvements, I didn't feel it was worth mentioning. 3. Lastly, there are two valves that he connected to the irrigation he installed. They are the old valves and leak. He never replaced or fixed them - I believe that work should have been included in the estimate he gave me. Since then, one of the shrubs he planted is in the process of dying - so I'm not even sure at this point that sufficient drip lines were laid. I believe Tony knows he has the ability to be a good landscaper. Unfortunately, because he services the San Jose area and agreed to come up to Redwood City, it would appear that he doesn't feel it's worth the effort. read more

When I first found them on Yelp, I got a good feeling, so I never looked further for anyone else. So, unfortunately, I can't comment on the pricing compared to other places, but we are thrilled with how everything turned out for what we paid. I contacted Tony, and he came out within a couple of days to take a look to give us estimates. He sent us the quotes for everything that night (tree trimming, getting rid of all the mulch/turf and putting in the grass in the front yard, installing sprinklers, putting up a fence, making a planter, and other miscellaneous things here and there). He told us that the entire job would take them 2 weeks, starting right away. But in reality, they came out for only 4 days over the span of 2 weeks, and everything was done! I was very impressed with how hardworking and efficient all the guys who came out to work on the project. Every time they came out, they all worked so hard and were so serious that we felt bad interrupting them in any way. They also would always clean up really well before leaving. I can't say enough about their work ethic. I think Rafael was assigned as the main guy for our work. For 2 out of the 4 days, he was the only one working from 8:30am until about 2 or 3pm, and he works REALLY hard!!! A very nice guy with a smile always on his face! Another thing I really liked about them was that when my husband and I came up with some ideas of what we want them to do, all the guys would be honest about whether they think it would look good or not good, or if the job is too small for the amount of work/money involved. They did not just do something because we asked them to do it but would come to consult us multiple times while they were on the job. I appreciated this very much. Also, I liked how Tony did not suggest that we get rid of everything to get everything new. For instance, he suggested that we move the wood fence that we already had instead of getting a new one because what we already had was of very nice quality, and we would not be able to get something like that easily these days. We also had some nice pebbles that I didn't want to throw out but didn't know what to do. Then, he came up with an idea to put them in a completely different place that never occurred to me. They look really nice there! We also liked how flexible they were. For instance, we were thinking of only doing the hedges, but instead, we wanted to add a planter. Tony gave us the quotes right away and added that to our job without any hesitation and delay in the work process. Lastly, I kept asking them if they can do this and that while they were working, and all the guys that we asked said "Okay!" with smiles on their faces and never made me feel bad ("small" things, like can you dig another hole here for my plants even though they were already done in that area, or take away the mulch and landscaping fabric here and there that we did not discuss). They even offered to do more than I asked! After reading some of the negative comments prior to hiring them, I was a bit worried that Tony would not be very responsive. But personally, I found him to be super easy to get in touch with, he replied to all of my many texts right away, so I have no complaints about this at all.
