Great little wine shop I stumbled upon on my walk. They have a great selection with a range of prices. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and helpful and I ended up picking up a rosé and moscato to take home and try out. This was my first time here. AHmazing little wine shop. I didn't walk around because I ordered from the app went in and bags were waiting with my name and walked out! The store is extremely clean and welcoming. The array of wine available is tremendous and the owner, Mozel, is quite knowledgeable of his wine. I've witnessed him rattle off the flavors and names of wine like it's second nature to him. If you have children, there is a small table set up with markers and paper where they can draw and the drawing is placed on the wall to your left when you walk in. I love this wine shop and I always recommend it to my Harlem friends. They have weekly tastings, events, and even cool spotting of influencers and celebs. It's kind of the wine shop to visit if you're in Harlem, especially on a Thursday night. Their variety of wine and other spirits is also a reason to visit. They're often adding new things and switching out the old. Mozel and co also shows great pride in being a staple in this / his community. This is my favorite wine shop! The staff is so cool and helpful. Every time I go in, I'm greeted with a smile. I really like that they don't hound you here. They let you do your thing but are quick to help when you ask. Their selection of wine is out of sight. So many great different choices. My favorite French Malbec is sold here too! Came here last weekend to pick up a red and white wine for a party I was going to. Staff was friendly, helpful, and even poured me a healthy glass of wine to taste. Before I moved to the neighborhood I had been by a couple times and loved their wine tastings, friendly and warm service and selection of wines and spirits. I bought my grandfather a rum from El Salvador with the suggestion of the tasting host and it was delicious! At that moment I knew I'd be back. Now I live in the neighborhood and cherish this shop so much. Moving from West to East Harlem is a bit of a transition. I have yet to visit any liquor shops where the staff is friendly or even where I could grab the bottle myself. While I wish I could find everyday favorites at Pompette I love their unique and carefully curated selection. It's not overwhelming, the staff will help even if they are just there for the tasting and it doesn't break your pockets. I love wine and love this place even more. Definitely a Harlem gem. At the store, it's very well organized, staff is incredibly helpful and they always have great wines being featured. They also enforce only a few people at a time in the store to making shopping safe. I order from the app practically every weekend and my delivery is always on time and never have any issues. This specialized wine shop is a great addition to this part of Harlem. Pompette is a little hidden away on a cross street right off of Lenox. The shop itself is pretty large and has a lot of options at different price points. The staff is incredibly helpful, willing to answer questions and give their opinions and I've tried a lot of new wines because of it. Pompette also does a lot of great events and tastings as well. I went in disposed to like the place. I have lived in Harlem for 13 years and like to support neighborhood businesses over big discount stores. At first glance, they played cool music and seemed to have an interesting selection of wines and spirits, attractive displays, and nice lighting. But the person behind the counter stayed behind the counter, chatting with a couple of people who were sitting in the shop and greeting others who poked their heads in the door. Knowledgeable? Hard to say. He never once inquired what I was looking for or offered to show me around. Helpful? Definitely not. When I asked whether they carried a particular kind of wine, he politely directed me toward the appropriate shelf but made no attempt to help me with my selection, not even "let me know if you have any questions." I picked up a Cab-Franc-Merlot and a Cab-Shiraz Merlot and compared their labels. I eyed the Botanical Gin with curiosity. No interest from the guy. Meanwhile, the volume of the music was turned up to a level where I could not simply ask him a question from 8 feet away but would have had to go back to the counter and lean in. So ... the impression given was that here was a young hipster for whom "being at work" meant chilling in a pleasant environment listening to some tunes, who was remarkably unmotivated when it came to the actual business of selling wine. Or perhaps he decided I did not fit the profile of a new customer the shop would be interested in acquiring. I put my potential purchases back and said "thank you" and "goodbye" on my way out the door, but I guess he didn't hear me over the music, because he did not respond. read more

Really nice wine shop just off Lenox at 131st. I was visiting a family member who lives a block or two away and was put in charge of wine for group dinner and was sent here. No corporate generic wines to be found, nope! An excellent collection of carefully curated bottles. We were having Paella and I was looking for some lighter reds like garnacha/grenache. I spotted a French Pinot, which I grabbed and asked about any Spanish garnacha. The owner said that they didn't have any 100% Garnacha but pointed me to a Garnacha/Syrah blend (85/15%). I then found it's French Ventoux cousin and walked out with three bottles. All about $15, all delicious and all appreciated by the guests. Great spot! read more

This is an updated review as of 12/2016: the manager responded by sending us a number of bottles of wine and apologizing profusely. We feel good about that and continue to order from them. Despite one time When we were given the wrong order and had to wait another hour to get the correct wine, it's been a great experience. We have loved this place ever since they opened. We have two small children, and having wine delivered makes our lives so much easier. Tonight we had a really disappointing experience. We ordered two bottles of wine at 7 PM. It's now 10 PM and they are still not here. We were already charged for the bottles. I called at 8 and was told the delivery person was almost here; that he had taken 10 deliveries at once, which is why it was taking so long. I called at 9 and they were closed, with a full voicemail box. We are now wine-less and sad. So hoping they make amends for this so that we can continue enjoying our neighborhood wine shop! read more

This Wine Shop is the best thing that has happened to me in quite some time. I came here 3 or 4 days in a row while visiting my friend who lives directly across the street from the shop. She was in there chatting with the owner and his friend when I walked in and she introduced me. The guys were so delightful! They were very knowledgeable about their products and gave us excellent advice about which wine to purchase. Their recommendations were fantastic and I can only find that specific wine at their shop! The shop is very well kept and neat. It looks so cool, and everything is arranged very nicely. There aren't any boxes sitting around or any evidence of downstocking etc. They do that stuff in the mornings when they have no customers, which is also a fabulous thing. The shop is well lit with natural light which is greatly appreciated as well, and it is just a wonderful place to be. Honestly. I love stopping by! You should, too! read more

I love Pompette! I live right down the street and always go here if I need to pick something up for a party or special occasion. I know literally NOTHING about wine so I really appreciate how knowledgeable and patient the staff are (seriously, I think they helped me for like a half hour once). Saw this gem on my way from the store and just had to peek in! A friend and I went in on a Sunday and they had free mimosa tastings with prosecco...yum! We were greeted immediately upon entering, the staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is so comfortable and lovely! They have quite an extensive selection of wine at affordable prices and I can't wait to go back! We bought a bottle of Riesling and Prosecco.
