I have been here for over 20 years and seen the changes to this market. After it was taken over a huge difference has appeared Why no one has stepped up is beyond me! There no longer is a bakery or for that matter anything just a bunch of PILED up equipment. The produce is disgusting! Rotten broccoli, cauliflower that is brown , bins with rotten potatoes even store wit pineapple! bugs yes bugs! Many of the premade salads have been sitting there longer than they should even have chicken in there. The AC is never working properly. Help said yes they always say it's getting fixed If some doesn't say this nothing gets done!!! Of course weekenders do not know any difference. I am ready to contact board of health. Just visited the Ponderosa. Sad that you visit Pine for a quiet weekend and go to the local market and they are playing loud Grunge music. If you want us to get out of the market quickly, it worked. Place is also filthy. read more

This seems to be one of the only markets in town, and it has a decent variety. Just, more on the packaged food variety- it wasn't busy & there wasn't an abundance of anything fresh. The food court is kind of obsolete. For a Saturday, it was pretty much shut down. No activity or fresh deli food whatsoever. Noticed the same with produce when walking through the store- very SMALL produce section, and quite pricey for the quality available. This ended up being more of a last ditch effort to find what is readily available. There was only one staff member working, that we saw. She was manning both the register & also tobacco/alcohol counter along with everything else. Constantly having to apologize for a brief wait- where are all the other employees? There was a local selling homemade salsa & chips at the front near the entrance. That was actually the highlight of this visit. We ended up getting some great snacks! Also loved the fun Arizona Lottery scratch card "scraper" keychains available! This is a great "I forgot something" stop. Otherwise, it would be difficult to do a full grocery shopping round here with the limited selection, produce in specific. A lot of items have been sitting for a minute. The parking lot suggests it's a lot busier than it really is. For how many vehicles were parked, we were virtually almost the only ones in the actual store. Also noticed there is a video rental center- not sure if it is closed or still open to the public but it wasn't sectioned off. Probably the last of it's sort these days! Decent prices for what you can find. We appreciated there is a local grocer, but it's likely locals are getting all the major groceries elsewhere because this one doesn't offer nearly what you'd find in a major chain with everything readily available. The best thing we got here was the homemade chips & salsa from the local seller at the table front of store. read more

Well, it's a small mountain town market. But it surprisingly has about anything that you need. It also carries unique snacks. Not too small, I would say a medium sized store. Friendly cashier. If you are in the Strawberry/Pine area, this is it. And it's not that bad. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Always friendly staff. They have saved me gallons of gasoline by not having to travel back into payson. They have frozen foods, canned goods? Small quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables. Large selection of beer, chip and bread. Just about everything. They are doing a small remodel moving the checkout from the middle to the side. They should be able to stock more items with this update. Ponderosa provides a valuable service to this small town. They may never compete with the mega supermarkets, but the prices are reasonable. This market has a surprisingly good selection of grocery and fresh produce items and the prices are reasonable given its location in the small town of Pine. There is a large selection of snack food, drinks and liquor typical of any quick stop type market, but there is also a good selection of canned and boxed goods like cereal, pasta, beans, fruit and veg. The frozen section is heavy on ice cream, sausages and meets, and frozen dinners. There is also a decent amount of fresh meat, poultry, cheese and all the typical fresh produce such as bananas, apples, broccoli, onions, carrots, mushrooms and even asparagus. The small deli area has fried chicken and some packaged bakery sweets like brownies, cakes and cookies. If you are visiting the Pine area for a few days, you will find everything you need without having to drive down to Payson. read more

My family and I were traveling through town on 1/7/23 and I wanted to circle back to check out the store and maybe pick up a few things. We were greeted with the most unfriendly look from the cashier. A lady I'm guessing in her 50's maybe 60's. She either wasn't happy to be there or didn't like us being there. We are a very average looking family, we aren't loud or obnoxious, so I am not sure what her issue was. It could be race related, my wife is latina and I am half white and asian (mistaken for latino by many), which would be unfortunate if that was her problem. We picked up a few things and I went to pay. She was staring off at something else, not sure what, but didn't acknowledge me until she was done with it. No greeting whatsoever, scanned my items, told me the total and asked if I wanted a receipt. Didn't even have the courtesy to turn the little bag carousel in our direction to take our items. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. Last time we stop there. read more

Nice place to pick up items you forgot to bring with you on your trip to Pine. We have a house in Pine and as we need we stop in for things we run out of or forget to bring. There is a coffee shop inside and I make a daily walk to sit for a while and drink a cup. Everyone is exceptionally friendly. This will be my coffee spot when I am in Pine. Yes there are others. They or most are not open at the hours I walk and want a coffee or they are only open on weekends. Thank you for being open at 6:am and being friendly. read more

Sadly this store is not what it used to be. (Been coming here for 30 years) I heard the store has new ownership which may be why it's declined so fast. We go here when we just need to grab a few things to avoid driving all the way to Walmart.. but I'm afraid we won't be coming here anymore. Stopped in to get a few things and we found moldy food through out the store, meat that should be red that is brown, and out dated products everywhere. Went to grab tortillas and almost all the tortillas on the shelf were covered in green mold like they've been sitting there for months and no one's checking the product in the store. We got grossed out and put everything in our cart back on the shelves and left and drove all the way to Walmart. I don't trust the food here anymore. Also, really sad they took the food service area out, you used to be able to buy some great rotisserie chickens and pies here. You can tell a-lot of the products they used to get locally they are now just whole sale buying from big companies instead of supporting the community. Also, they no longer carry a lot of the products they used to, even more limited products here then the old store. You really need to have people checking over your products for quality every day/checking dates.. it's not right to be selling expired foods to people. I'm sad for the people who live here full time and are reduced to this quality of a store now. read more

This place has good service, good fresh breads, pastries ,pies, cookies. But last week I purchased Sliced cooked roast beef for sandwiches. Wow what a surprise! so tender, test much better than deli meats.. So good no mayo was needed, just meat lol salt n pepper n soft white bread. I'm JONESING for more! This place is great! When we told people we were going to Pine, AZ they all said the same thing. Buy everything in Phoenix and bring it up because it's really expensive up there. We brought the majority of stuff we needed but stopped to buy a few extra things. This place had great prices, and a ton of stuff! I bought 4 avocados because they were a little on the smaller side, I didn't say anything about them but when I checked out she noticed they were small and only charged me for two! THANK YOU! She didn't have to do that and most places wouldn't. It is locally owned and the people that work there care, and it shows. Everyone visiting Pine should totally go there! read more

They carry a pretty wide selection of items for a smaller store in a mountain town! The tortillas are excellent and they have Boars Head deli meat and cheese. I try to shop local when in Pine and I am impressed with the variety they try to manage. Sadly they forced out the old bakery that was renting space in the store and the new one is terrible...priced high, cheap pre-made terrible crusts. Just save yourself the heartache and skip it. It's more expensive, but if you need a pie, order one in advance from the Randall House or go grab a slice. read more

This is a pretty small market in Pine which is a small place overall. However, it has a decent amount of stuff from vegetables to wine. My mom and I were on a girls trip and decided to make some pasta with steak and grabbed some pasta, garlic, wine (pretty good for $4.99!), and steak. The bakery here has a wide selection of bread, pastries, and pies. We live in Strawberry and love the convenience of this Market. The new face lift inside and bakery are great. Best fresh Salsa around!!! While there are some items that are a little pricy (especially for Wally World customers) the majority are fair and in some cases inexpensive (Their spice cost blow away Wal-Mart). This place has improved their products significantly in the last year, opens early, and has improved customer service. I met one customer who was shopping for Paprika for a special recipe but the market had ran out......the employee tried to see if the bakery had some they could give the customer...when they didn't the employee went to their own house up the street and brought back some for free.....that is small town service at its Max!!! read more

Please read the other reviews and STAY AWAY if you can. The owner is a grumpy old witch and the place is WAY overpriced. I have submitted a complaint to the business bureau. Today is Easter and I needed an ingredient that wasn't available at the gas station where I usually get my last minute things when I can't go to payson. So I went to this market and the witch was there! At first I didn't know she was the owner, but I quickly learned. She started to yell at me and my husband for standing to close in line to the other customer. But she was very nasty, rude and demanding about it. I think it's important to mention that I am a nurse and was standing at an appropriate distance.I recommended her to put marks on the floor like every other business has done to which she replied " Well if I bitch enough maybe you'll get it" that's exactly what she yelled (about a foot away from my face WITHOUT a mask or any PPE ! The IRONY)in the middle of the store as she started to walked away. This is how this store treats their customers on Easter. Me and husband were just dumbfounded. Worst customer service, you have to be walking on egg shells when you go into this place. Signs everywhere about rules of what is allow and not allowed in this place and again to only Pay up to three times the value of basic ingredients. I always try to support small business but with this customer service I hope this place is not in business much longer. Never going back to this place I put up with it today because I needed the ingredients to give my family a nice Easter meal. read more

This place does very well exactly what its supposed to do: save you a trip to Payson. Moreso now than ever before. Now that they have the new building, this place makes life much MUCH easier when spending longer periods in the Pine area. Pretty much anything you'd find in a normal supermarket, you will find here on a smaller scale. The selection may not be as wide as Wal-Mart, but they cover their bases well. I was a vegetarian for a number of years. Never thought theyd have veggie-burgers in their frozen section, but sure enough: Morningstar Farms right there. Good selection of beers, wine, and liquor...another frequent need when in Pine for too long... *cough* :) The bakery puts out nice fresh bread and pastries too, which is awesome, cuz I hate Iron Kidz and the like. The people are friendly too, which rounds out the experience nicely. A little more expensive than a normal super market, but guess what? You will pay for convenience 10 times out of 10, and all things considered, they havent jacked the prices all that much. read more

This market though small has so much variety. Lots of fruits and vegetables. The bakery/deli is so good. Limited selection but what they do make is top notch. The fried zucchini and chicken strips are our favorites. People drive up from the valley for the breads. Also the deli prices are very affordable. The grocery prices are a bit higher than normal but well worth it for the convenience. The employees have always been so kind. read more

We discovered this little store while staying at a cabin nearby. It has the necessities plus some added perks. The Pine Village Bakery is an absolute gem. They have a nice cheese selection for wine pairing. Small but helpful medicine isle. I did notice some food items had expired. No biggie. Still way better than driving into Payson!
