I recently got a facial from Kirsten, and was a bit disappointed, especially after seeing all the incredible reviews on Yelp! That was the whole reason I booked, and so I went in with high hopes. Let me start by saying Kirsten is a very kind woman. For the facial itself, there seemed to be much more massage (hands, arms, neck) than treatment. Felt nice, but not what I booked. I had a few white heads, her esthetician-modality doesn't believe in traditional extractions, so these were left untouched. Multiple times, she left the treatment room to let people into the boutique, which took away from feeling relaxed. Lastly, when we wrapped up, I saw it was 30 minutes past the allotted time I booked (ended at 3:50 on my appointment booking, saw my watch around 4:18). I had a commitment at 4:30, so this left me in a pinch. Maybe it was an off day, maybe this is standard, but I will likely not be returning. read more

10/10 would get a facial by Codie again! I had an appointment with Codie for a facial and it was the most relaxing of all the facials I've gotten. The prep work was thorough, extractions were painless and massages were soothing. The products used worked great on my face, based on my skin conditions and what she recommended for me. I typically stay awake for the facials but I was so relaxed that I fell asleep! I left the shop with glowing skin and felt amazing the next morning. New to the neighborhood and I was initially worried I'd have to give up my usual place for a potentially not so good place. I worried for nothing! Pono is a cute shop with great vibes and cool design that offers a multitude of services. So far I can only speak to their waxing services and they've been great every single time. They're quick, efficient and friendly. My wallet doesn't cry as much anymore, hooray! But most importantly, my eyebrows and mustache are happy with Pono's work. I go to Pono for several of my services. The space is so welcoming. The decor is gorgeous and really sets the mood for whichever service you're getting. Deb does all my waxing and usually my facials and she's amazing! I trust her completely and know that I will always be satisfied with her work. You can tell she has been in the business for several years because she really knows what she's doing and does it with such ease. She is very knowledgeable and really knows what is best for your skin type. I always look forward to my services with Debra. UPDATE: I recently received a facial from Jessie which was phenomenal! Found Pono and booked a treatment. I am so glad I finally did it! Natasha was amazing; super sweet and gentle, explaining everything throughout the process. First time trying them out and very pleased with the results. I got my brows waxed and a lash lift + tint for my wedding on Friday. It was my first time getting my brows waxed after 2 years and my first time getting a lash lift ever. My right lashes didn't take to it right away, but I was able to get it fixed and they're perfect. I would definitely come here again, everyone is really sweet and welcoming. After getting waxed in many places around SF and NYC over the past 10 years, I've picked out some of my favorites. Some of my factors include convenient location (easy by transit or parking), extra care by esthetician, comfort of place, and products used. I just got waxed at Pono today and it went super quick and easy. The decor and vibe are very relaxing. I love the barn door that leads to a back room, which has another private room for waxing. The products feel great on my skin, smell good, and the esthetician did a thorough job of understanding my history with waxing, skin sensitivities, and follow up care. As accustomed to waxing as my body is, I still like gentle reminders to breathe as a strip is being pulled and feeling like I'm not being rushed in and out. I think there's a balance between doing the wax quickly and making the client feel comfortable. My wax today felt a little more rushed that I'm used to, and that's the only reason why I'm giving four stars. Otherwise, I'm excited to return and try a facial! read more

LONG OVERDUE: Having started coming here since the very beginning this review is totally overdue. Let me start by saying I am a licensed esthetician and super particular about my brows. Surprisingly I like to get them done over doing them myself because I feel like it's just better off that way as I can be tweezer happy with a magnifier. Haha Needless to say my eyebrow artist was moving to Chico, CA and I had to find a new person ASAP. I am very familiar with Glen Park since my mom works at "The Park Salon" and in HS I worked at Destination Bakery. So when I read in the Glen Park newspaper that "Pono" was being built I was pretty juiced. Still had reservations since it was new and I didn't have much to go off of. My mom saw Debra for a facial and said it was fabulous. After that my sister, niece and cousin went to see her for their brows. I was skeptic until seeing that their brows looked great. So I decided to try Pono and absolutely loved it! Debra is everything and more. Her warmth, realness, sense of humor has me entertained for each of our 15 minutes every 3-4 weeks. Not to mention I love supporting small businesses and she's a SF NATIVE! (Which was just a bonus) She and her staff make Pono such a relaxing and positive place to be. I can highly recommend anyone at Pono as i have also seen Jessie and Maria. Every time I leave Pono I leave happy and sometimes with a great new pair of earrings. I L O V E P O N O I cannot say enough good things about Pono. They check every box. Is the shop clean and pleasant? It's pristine and drop dead gorgeous. Are the staff members talented and kind? If I were better at making friends I would be friends with each and every one of these ladies because they are all the kindest most wonderful people you will meet. Are the prices reasonable? Absolutely. Convenient location? Right across the street from a BART station and freeway entrances going north and south. Parking is quite easy in this area, several bus lines, scooters everywhere - it's a no brainer. I have had facials and waxing services here and have never had better anywhere else. Quite frankly, simply sitting in their lobby sipping their beautiful tea (or a cheeky glass of wine) feels like a vacation. I'd pay just to do that. I have been a client of Pono's ever since they opened. I used to only book my appointments with Debra because she is just absolutely wonderful, incredibly talented and incredibly sweet. Then I had an appointment with Jessie and found out that she's just as wonderful as Debra. Then I had an appointment with Michelle and she blew me away (love ya Michelle xoxo). Today I saw Klaudia for a waxing appt and yet again - AMAZING HUMAN BEING. All of these ladies are so cool, so fun to talk to, so kind and unbelievably talented. I have never had a wax that is as comfortable as it is here. Today was my first appointment after many many months (I was mourning a death and not taking care of myself) and it was virtually pain-free. I didn't even use the numbing spray that they offer and it was so quick and possibly the least painful wax I've ever had. Debra is the creator, owner, and glowing light at PONO. Debra has curated such a space of warmth and beauty that you start to wonder where you even are. Spoiler alert: not Kansas, anymore. Well, my skin was about as dry and dusty as Kansas in the Dust Bowl... When I entered the shop there was a steamy cup of tea and friendly team of esthies to welcome me. After a chat about my skin needs, goals, and 5-year plan (jk), Debra cleansed and moisturized the hell out of my skin AND soul. She was so attentive and informative in a way that left me feeling empowered about the areas I worry most about. The products felt amazing and like they actually did something! PONO sits at the gateway to Glen Park and glows like a beacon calling you from the kitty-corner BART station (read: easy to get to!) I've been coming here for a while now and I refuse to go anywhere else ever again. I get my brows done and I've always had issues with my brows not being even or framing my face well. Here they're able to make your brows look so good and they're always so friendly and sweet. The vibes are always immaculate, it always smells good but it's not overpowering artificial smell which I appreciate. They only serve one client at a time which I love! Shortly after I started going to them I moved to LA for school, but I wait to get my brows done when I visit home because that's how much I trust them and only them lol. 10/10 recommend you won't be disappointed. read more
