Located in the same plaza as the former Hawaiian Island Surf & Sport, and now Pono Life Sciences…read more You'll find parking is easiest if you park on the Hana HWY side. Especially if you have a foot fracture. You never really know where a specialty physician is located until you have to actually use their services. Fortunately Dr. Douglas Birch is a great doctor. XRays are taken in house, so you don't have to go to a lab or radiology dept. first. They have several options for footwear as well if you are in need of something for better arch support or would like something special for sports foot wear. Scheduling is fairly simple and they have a good selection of availability. I really like the fact that appointments are also confirmed via email and over the phone in advance.

Setting the initial appointment was easy. Dr. Birch was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and had a…read moregood sense of humor. He was direct and to the point, which I appreciated. He took the time to carefully and clearly explain all the options. The Kahului office was clean, conveniently located, and easy to access with parking right out front. That's where the good experience ended. Dealing with the support staff to get my prescription filled was a total nightmare. I provided them with the contact information for my pharmacy and was told at checkout that they would send the prescription electronically. I called the pharmacy the next day to confirm. The prescription was not sent in. I called Dr. Birch's office and was told by a sweet support staff the pharmacy was not in their system, and she had to ask her manager to add it. I asked her to call me to confirm when the prescription was sent in. Several days went by with no call. I called the pharmacy. The prescription was not sent in. I called Dr. Birch's office again and spoke to the same sweet support staff who checked and said it was faxed the day before and, oh but wait, it did not go through. No one called me to notify my. No one called the pharmacy to check the fax number. They simply did not follow up at all until I called. The support staff checked the fax number with me, which is on the pharmacy's website, and they had one digit of the number incorrect. I was told the prescription would be faxed in that day. The next day I called the pharmacy and they did receive the prescription, but it was for the wrong amount. The prescription wasn't sold in the quantity ordered on the fax, so they pharmacy couldn't fill it. It only comes in one size. The next day I called Dr. Birch's office again and a different support staff answered, who transferred me to another staff. I think her name was Angie. I explained that the prescription they sent in was for the incorrect quantity. With all the delays filling it I expressed my concern on timely refills as it's required use was 9 months and they only prescribed enough for 10 days - 20 if I used it once a day instead of twice a day as prescribed. She was extremely rude and sassy. She stated, "So, you want me to tell Dr. Birch..." inserting my concerns in a rude way. She was not the least apologetic for all the mistakes. She blamed me for them faxing it to the wrong number. She didn't acknowledge that they wrote the Rx for the wrong quantity, so the pharmacy could not fill it. The patient should not have to do so much leg work to fill a prescription. While Dr. Birch was kind and respectful, his support staff was the exact opposite. There was no excuse for Angie's sass and rudeness. She should be fired. It's such a shame... if it wasn't for her, Dr. Birch would be 5 stars. She ruins his whole practice. I know mistakes happen and was tolerant until I spoke to Angie. I opted to keep treating with the over-the-counter medication.

When your body speaks to you, listen. Especially when you get older…read more I'm on my feet a lot and have experienced several foot/leg issues where eventually it was resolved. But step in diabetes, where overlooking issues under this condition can be tragic. Just last week at my part time job, a customer came in and I recognized his voice as he's a regular. But I didn't immediately recognize him as he lost a lot of weight and clearly had mobility issues. When I blurted out his name, indeed it was him. He told me he was diabetic and ignored a toe injury where a life-changing procedure slowed him down. For a couple of weeks now, I had what seemed like a blister on one of my toes where it now became 2. It was painful to walk in shoes and when I showed it to family members where one is doing her residency at a large hospital and my sister has been an RN for over 30 years, was told it could be either a blister, callous or wart. I, too, am diabetic and fears crossed my mind. My sister strongly suggested I have it investigated immediately. Step in Ricky Sukita (RS). RS is a podiatrist who has been in practice for over 35 years. Located in Kuakini Physician's Exchange, the office of RS is on the 11th floor. It was so nice to make an appointment where his staff immediately answered the phone when I called. Their records show this wasn't my first time to the office, but I was impressed on the service and professionalism extended to me. I addressed to the staff of my issue and after confirming my address and health insurance plan, I was escorted to an empty office where several minutes later RS showed up. Words cannot express my relief where it was disclosed my issue was callous development. I've had warts before where it was painful and took a long time to resolve. After assessing my regular work and leisure regimen, RS explained of my current condition and how this came all about. He also advised me how to handle this situation and provided me with protection. I appreciated how he informed me and educated me where I understood and didn't feel incompetent that led to my condition. Overall, solid 5-stars to RS and his staff. From making the appointment to walking out of the office after my appointment, there weren't hassles nor stress. I understand RS is taking new patients. If you're looking for a podiatrist, look no further.

In my line of work I used to deal with a lot of physicians being a medical sales rep. Dr. Sukita immediately makes you feel at ease. He treated me for plantar fasciitis making great recommendations in orthotic products and educating me on how to treat my injury. If you're ever in need of great foot care, I would highly recommend Dr. Sekita. His staff is also great! I had made an appointment and arrived at the wrong time, but they worked me in with no problem. Very grateful for Dr.Sukita and his staff

It was painless! And my toe was good! For my second visit I got seen by Dr. Anderson to get the ingrown toenail permanently removed. And thankfully I was able to see them ASAP. I called early in the morning and they were able to schedule me to come in at 3:30pm on the same day! For the procedure I was really anxious at first, because I am not very good with needles, but he was very understanding and patient! He told me to relax and not to worry! We then proceeded to the procedure, which only took 30 minutes and it was super painless! In the end they gave me a sheet on how to take care of my toe! Also, after a week of care you have to do a follow up by either video chatting or coming in person to see how the toe is doing! Overall, I would recommend coming here, staff is really sweet and doctors are super nice too! I live 30 minutes away from the clinic, but it was worth the drive!
