Horrible cut of my dog. I asked for a person who knew how to cut Bishon dog haircut and when I came to pick my dog up it was horrible she had a poodle haircut . I even warned them if the person cutting my dogs hair knew how to cut Bishon look and they were like yes we do . LIARS ! A Bishon has a teddy bear look . I been told by everyone where did I go and who cut her hair because they did horrible job . I knew I should have not given a tip but I felt bad for the groomer . I am just so disappointed. I came here first place because I saw a 5 star review. NOPE ! Please do not come here if you have a Bishon . Only poodles I guess . Never coming here again nor referring to people . read more

We have been taking our two golden retrievers to this place for over a year now. We absolutely love the freestyle free roam. It's made all the difference with our one dog who is very high anxiety and very fearful of cages, people & anything not "home". She can go get groomed with her brother and sit right beside him as he's getting groomed. This makes her feel safe. It's been really a godsend. Totally recommend this place! read more

In my opinion, Poochini is THE premier dog grooming establishment in ABQ. I'll admit I was more than a little apprehensive when I was first looking for a groomer. We adopted our dog, and he was just learning that he could really trust people. I wanted to choose a place that really LOVES the dogs they groom. At Poochini, I found exactly that. Poochini was highly recommended by friends of ours, and we were very happy with the grooming of our little Mo. This place is also EXTREMELY clean. The staff is wonderful, and conveys a genuine affection for dogs. In fact, their whole operation revolves around providing a comfortable and reassuring environment for your pet before, during, and after grooming. Wow! That was my first thought when I saw my dog Luna, after my dad had dropped her off to get her groomed. Her shave job was perfection. And the care they took with her was amazing. She had had a horrible previous experience with a mobile grooming unit that had cut her "boob". She ended up actually losing one nipple, because it got infected and it was so irritating to her that she nibbled it off one day while I was at work. She had also been cut and manhandled at Petsmart, so needless to say I was a little concerned about taking her to yet, another groomer. However my parents take their dog to Poochini's so I thought I'd give it a try. I started by taking my little dog in to get his nails trimmed. They were fast and thorough and didn't even allow him any time to get upset about the whole affair. Then I took Luna (my big girl) there for a full grooming and shave down. As stated above, I couldn't be happier with Luna's shave down. She looks beautiful and tidy. It's clear that someone took a lot of time to really do the job correctly. I've actually never seen her look this good before. And they also brushed her teeth, trimmed her nails, and sent her home with a beautiful little neckerchief! I will absolutely be using Poochini's for all grooming from this point forward. If you've had any substandard grooming experiences with your animals, I highly recommend trying Poochini's as I'm certain you'll be pleased. read more

Such an amazing experience for my Golden Retriever Oakley and I! This was the first experience for my golden grooming wise. He is a dog that isn't so fond of the bathing experience. I have not been able to give him a full on bath or drying because of his fear. I am an absolute dog mom and will not leave Oakley alone anywhere because of his separation issues. So this was the first time I felt as if I could trust the groomers. Everyone is so kind and nice. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by someone that immediately takes time with your animal. She immediately went and got his groomer, Molly, who just was so kind and patient with us both. Molly got down on the floor and just made us both feel so calm about the experience. The whole grooming experience took about 4 hours. Molly took her time with him and bathed him with cups of water in replacement of the normal hose that would normally be used. She also allowed him to air dry for a portion rather than keeping him in the air kennel the whole time. She did the whole works, and made him feel at ease and comfortable the whole time. Overall I will not go any where else! Such an amazing place for such an amazing price! I would recommend Molly any day! read more

Great experience for both me and my dog! Our long time groomer had recently sold her business, so we were searching for a new spot, and decided to try Poochini based on other reviews. We were not disappointed! My dog has a tremendous fear of the groomers, so she started shaking uncontrollably the second we walked in. Molly got down on the floor with her, and took the time to make us both feel at ease with leaving her for a few hours. They have an open play area when the dogs aren't being groomed, so my pup was right at home. We will definitely be back, and I recommend this place to anyone who needs services by people who obviously love animals. read more

Ms. Janet was our old dog groomer and her number is out of order.... that's how this story starts. I was forlorn, what's a dog owner to do, especially a owner of a highly squiggly, rambunctious, slightly grouchy, incredibly fluffy, 8 year old Irish Setter. I desperately searched yelp for someone who was up for the job. Poochinis was far.... but the reviews made me feel... like they cared. That's what I needed, someone who cared about my girl. My first impression was over the phone, the woman went out of her way to make sure Lily's name was spelt correctly. She scheduled us right away. I took the 30 min drive and dropped Lily off. Shante was so loving and already gave me all the warm fuzzies on how she reacted to seeing Lily. Even with the mop on her head and her energy through the roof she didn't seemed phased. I wasn't worried. I came to pick her up and she looked gorgeous, she was happy, and instead of a disgruntled groomer Shante was raving on how sweet Lily was, and how she was such a good girl. I was delighted. Because even though I painted a picture of a difficult dog, that's really only so with difficult people. With the right touch and demeanor my energetic lady will be obedient and quite loving! I will be back to visit Shante! I had to give it a couple of tries before I sat down to write the review. Last year, I adopted an itty-bitty pittie from the shelter---my first dog ever. Not knowing her backstory made it hard to figure out what she would be able to put up with in terms of being touched/handled. Turns out, she's pretty easy-going with most forms of contact (whew!) but it certainly helped that Chante (sp?) had pits of her own and knew when to back off (my furkid was no fan of nail clippers the first time around). For all the things that are included in a general grooming (teeth, ears, anal glands, etc), I think I pay a fair price for my short-haired doggo. I mean, I love her but I certainly don't want to get my hands up in there... The second time around, I asked for the hypoallergenic shampoo and doggo came back smelling lovely (the first time, the scent was a little strong for the both of us). She also comes back decked out a cool little bandana every time! I know I have found a groomer that I can trust with my little shelter mutt aka one of the greatest joys of my life! read more

I absolutely love taking my dog to Poochini! Their office is very clean and neat and their staff is very friendly. Poochini always does a wonderful job and they don't keep my pup there for an ungodly amount of time! This is the one place my dog is actually happy to go into and to leave! I've been going to Poochini since they opened and have had Marissa grooming my guy for even longer! I highly recommend her as a groomer! Clean, friendly and oh my goodness my boy was given back to me SHINING and sooooo soft. He is a Border Collie mix with a double coat that just hangs on like grim death, no amount of raking on my part was getting that crud out. In desperation I decided I would try a groomer, man did I pick the right one, he must be 5 pounds lighter, so shiney and so so soft. He was not at all upset when I picked him up so as he had never been to the groomer before that says a lot right there. I will definitely be going back. read more

But seriously, Everyone at Poochinis is great, I am a dog owner since I was 18, grew up with dogs my entire life of which all were "indoor" pets unlike many people in NM who don't treat their dogs with love and care and keep them outside like cattle- I "spoil" my pets as they are well cared for, fed probably better than some children in NM are, they are taken to a VET when needed AND especially GROOMED regularly since they feel so much better after they are bathed! Theo the owner is a very kind, gentle soul and a great groomer with our dogs, Marissa is def my favorite groomer & person at Poochini's as well. They listen to you as to want you want done, your pets come home happy. With that in mind anyone looking for a place that doesn't lock up your dogs in kennels so they can socialize post grooming. Our long-haired cat had several mats that he just would not let us touch. Poochini was so good with him! They washed him, groomed him, combed out some of the mats on the sides, and shaved his belly. We picked him up and he smelled so good! He also seems much more comfortable now with his shaved tummy. We'll definitely be using Poochini again on a regular basis! read more

This is a wonderful place to send your fur-children! I was hesitant to drop off our two doxies because they're a bit unsure of new places, things and people but they instantly warmed up to the groomers. We highly recommend Poochini. Our little dog is very easily frightened, probably because of bad experiences at other grooming places, but at Poochini, we feel our dog is in good hands. Jessica is kind and gentle with Lana, always greeting her and cuddling her for a little while to make her feel safe. She also follows our specifications to the letter, leaving ear fringe, eyelashes, and tail untouched. That's not easy to do with a squirmy pup! The place is clean, the grooming is excellent, but most importantly, we feel we can trust Jessica with our little Lana. When we pick her up after being groomed, Lana is always happy and never appears to be traumatized, the way she did at other places. Finally, we've found a trustworthy groomer! Not only is the customer service at Poochini consistently professional and amazing, but the overall quality is top notch and the best in the city. Poochini is very clean and inviting, and our dogs always come out happy, looking fabulous, fresh, and with a complimentary bandana. The BEST thing I love about Poochini is they don't kennel our dogs... The dogs get to hang out in a closed-off space that has a water bowl, tons of toys, and other dogs to play and socialize with. We took our Basset Hound, Fozzie, in to be groomed by Noah. Fozzie loved Noah, and you could always tell he was really good with Fozzie, and has a genuine love and care for animals. All of the groomers there seem like this: very friendly, great customer service, and really take their time with your pet. As far as the facility, they have a large area for the pets to freely roam, which made the experience more enjoyable for Fozzie. When we picked him up, he was always clean and happy. We have since moved states, and we miss having Poochini!! read more

I've already reviewed Marissa once before, but I thought another one was in order. We recently lost a baby she had been grooming for us for a couple of years and adopted another one. He's very high strung, with a long history of being abandoned before he was picked up by the city and subsequently adopted. He's loud, can be vicious with the nails, and is really squirrel-y. I was worried dropping him off; I shouldn't have been. Marissa did a wonderful job. He got a lion cut, his nails trimmed, and a quick bath for some problem areas. He's so much happier and more comfortable, especially with the temperatures starting to rise. I can't recommend Marissa enough. She's an asset to Poochini. read more

Theo is our groomer here. We take our dog Zendo and he is excited from the moment we pull up. Theo gets more hair out of his coat than any groomer we tried before. He is incredible. Woohoo! This is a great place for grooming. The shop is clean, spacious, and fun. Theo makes my two little Papillons so beautiful they actually perk up and act like rock stars when he's done. Blinding white, glossy black, fluffy coats, trim nails, the works. The price is right, the work is great, the location is good, and Theo is superb. The clincher to the deal is the groomers' atttitudes: do they really like the dogs (and cats on Sunday), or is this just a job? Brought my mini Aussie into this groomer after reading the great reviews, and found out that they were definitely not an exaggeration. The owners/groomers are friendly and personable, and happily answered all my questions. They were very affectionate to my admittedly nutty dog, and took him to the back, where they showed me where he would be waiting for his groom. Instead of crates, there is a bright, clean, open play area for the dogs, complete with water and toys. When I picked him up a few hours later, he looked like a different dog- soft, smelled decidedly undog-like, and a lot cuter than when I dropped him off. Marissa had some fantastic suggestions for maintaining his coat, and I left very satisfied. Even my grumpy husband, who is usually being driven crazy by the dog, couldn't stop petting him. We'll absolutely be back, probably with another one of our dogs in tow. Can't recommend them enough! read more
