Thursday night shows are discounts, so it's a great way to see live theater at an affordable price. The place only has 60 seats so there is a great view from each seat. I would probably skip the first row seats because you have to look up at the stage a bit. You can't buy tickets online and can only begin purchasing tickets two weeks before the show, which is kind of a hassle for planning purposes. Try it out (especially the musicals) and you won't be disappointed.

A Dickens of a Christmas is part of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, but it is a separate event…read more While the Renaissance Faire takes place during the Summer and Fall on the main grounds of the property, A Dickens of a Christmas takes place the month before Christmas in the Mount Hope Mansion (around Halloween, there is a Poe event that is held here as well). A Dickens of a Christmas has become a bit of a tradition for my family the past few years. In the style of the Renaissance Faire, the cast portrays characters from Victorian England. The audience is very much involved in all aspects of the play. The scenario is that the "Queen" is throwing a Christmas party, and everyone in the audience is a guest. After a brief introduction, the audience is split into three groups who rotate through three different parts of the performance. One room typically involves Charles Dickens putting on a performance of his "new story," A Christmas Carol. Another room usually has the audience singing Christmas carols with the Queen, and the final room usually involves the telling of some sort of Christmas story. While I've gone for the past four years, I've never gotten bored. The cast always manages to keep things new and fresh. It is quite fun and entertaining. There is a lot of interaction, and the characters are usually very funny. I suppose it's the sort of thing you really have to experience first hand to fully understand though. If you're a fan of Renaissance Faires or any sort of theater, I'd really recommend going to a performance of A Dickens of a Christmas.

Dinner started at 5:30, and it is off to the right, before the main gate to the faire. We were greeted and then sat at a table. The server was nice and helpful. I chose the pot roast, and my date chose the asparagus Mac and cheese. Everything was good. There was a self serve station for soup, salad, and bread. The soups were good too. As far as the actual Dickens of a Christmas show, it was fun and interesting to watch the actors in their roles, clothes and all. There were three different shows, depicting different stories. Each had its own decorations, actors, and ambiance. My favorite was the story of Scrooge and the ghosts who visit him during the night. Everyone was very polite and I had a good time watching the show. I will be back next year!

Well, that's what I did. I went to Midtown cinema to see Sinners. It was a rainy, gloomy day, so it was perfect to go to the movie theater. I worked for myself, so I was able to go to a matinee at roughly about 1 PM. It was a very nice experience. Since I since I had the theater to my entire self I purchased a popcorn and a soda and of course the movie ticket! Well I was surprised to only find out that my bill came out to be $32 for a movie midday however I continued to watch the movie and this movie was okay! But that part that threw me off were the vampires. I definitely wasn't expecting that, but that was a great little pot plot twist at the end. I was not too fond of it, but the cinema was very nice. The bathrooms were very clean and the staff made up for it. I actually got a chance to talk to one of the staff members and we talked about movies and I told them how I didn't understand why it was vampires and then also Hoodoo which I came to find out. Is a different type of magic than Voodoo. I love that the film was fictional and based on a folklore, talking to someone at the movie theater, who actually studied film themselves was an amazing experience. I enjoy the conversation with the staff more than the movie.

You could see heads on screen when people walked in or out of the theater, which was cool; have not had that experience since my younger days. Everyone was polite and courteous of other guests. It was a great experience for my daughters and I.

Parking was really easy as well, and lots of fair-goers in costume which was cool. The weekends are themed and family friendly. We really liked the Scotch Egg stand. They have been posting their hours on facebook since Dauphin County moved to the Green Zone. all stations are sanitized daily. Some of the kids displays / activities are as follows: train display, insect inspection station, a 'farm', bikes, toys, etc. STEM activities: stop motion film building, art station bubble wrap, geostix challenge, engineering design, gears, pebble challenge, etc. The museum is available for field trips, birthday parties, etc. The museum is powered 100% by volunteers. Our kids had a blast!

I appreciate that they have 3D options for movies in addition to standard definition. As far as movie snack prices go, it'll bleed you dry like any movie theatre these days, but honestly it's worth skipping the snacks to see a movie on the big screen if that's an issue (or you can just share one box of candy/popcorn with friends/kids). I am a firm believer in the movie theatre experience (streaming is just not the same) and I am incredibly grateful to have a movie theatre here in Carlisle!
