The pizzas are awesome! Just the way you'd expect a pizza from a wood-fired oven. The appetizers are also very good, as they are complemented with strips of pizza dough....from the wood fired oven. The marinara sauce with the garlic bread could use more seasoning to give it flavor (garlic, salt, pepper, onion powder, etc.) The burgers are huge. They have good flavor, nice and juicy. And boy they are big! You better have a good appetite to clear the plate. The service was alittle slow, but all the staff was very polite and aware of the slowness. They comp'd us an appetizer as a result. Overall, it's a great place to hang out and a friendly place to bring the family. And worth the drive for really good pizza. read more

We had seven people for dinner and they only had a table for six. We asked the waitress if we could pull up an extra chair. She said that was fine And brought us a chair. After we had ordered and received our drinks the owner came by and started yelling at us for disregarding her policy of not having more than six people at a table. We did not see a posted policy that no more than six people would be allowed at a table. We offered to split into two groups multiple times. We also said we could eat what we ordered and not ever come back. She said she appreciated that we not come back. She continued to yell at us. Just passing thru and thought we would try this local restaurant. We had a caprese salad and a pizza carne. The balsamic vinegar was slightly sweet which I appreciate. The pizza was fantastic. Bacon was great, crust wasn't chewy but perfectly cooked. They gave us a side of pizza sauce which was slightly spicy which I loved. The waitress went above and beyond. She was very kind as we rushed her because we were on the road. My only issue was the way someone talked to our waitress. My friend had the Tender 7 Wood Fire pizza and I had the Spaghetti w/Meatball/garlic bread. We shared with each other. Their pizza was the best Wood Fire pizza I ever had. The sauce was delicious. The Spaghetti was good but just a tad bland and could have used a bit more sauce as well. The meatballs were also a tad bland. Not to say it wasn't good, it was. The garlic bread that came with the spaghetti however was so excellent and I would order a meal on just that if I could. The fire oven was beautiful as well and it was fun watching the chef using it. We were visiting the area and made a special trip to Mineral Point from Madison, just to eat at Popolo Pizzaeria (during the 3 hr window it would be open ‍) only to be told that they couldn't seat us because we would "overwhelm the kitchen." Popolo? NEVER AGAIN! For several years we have visited Mineral Point to take art classes at Shake Rag Alley. We always arrive later on a Friday and have had dinners at Popolo, ordering pizza and chianti. I have always asked that the toppings be added to the edge of the pizza, any added cost not a problem. I don't care for an inch or more burnt crust around the edge. The young men preparing the pizzas always did a good job. This year was different. On arrival we were seated a few feet from the open pizza prep area. We immediately ordered a bottle of wine and each had a glass. I then asked the server for our pizza, asking that the toppings go to the edge. This year the pizza maker was a lone, older woman. Apparently hearing our order she walked over and screamed, in an angry voice "If you want that kind of pizza go to Midway!". I tried to explain that in past years the pizza makers added topping to the edge. She screamed again "I am the owner. If you want that kind of pizza go to Midway". I wanted to leave, but my wife, a peacemaker, pointed out that we already started our wine and ordered pizza, so we should stay. We ate the pizza and left. I can't tell you if it was any good, I was so angry. The only positive thing I could say is that the server was courteous. I will never go back. The following Sunday afternoon we did try Midway Bar & Grill for the first time. Their pizza was excellent, with the toppings added nearly to the edge. I have never been to mineral point but this restaurant is definitely a reason to go back. Me and my girlfriend went here to eat after visiting the house on the rock and we were both extremely pleasantly surprised. The aesthetic and the quality of the interior was one thing, the waitress was also very personable and kind and timely, and the food was absolutely amazing, it was very reasonably priced and the pizza was much higher quality than I've ever had before, all together it costed about 32 dollars for a pizza and two alcoholic drinks but the experience felt very high end. I would definitely recommend for a nice date night or family gathering! read more

This restaurant is such a gem! I'm from the Madison area, but my sister works in the Mineral Point area, so we met her for dinner here and we were so impressed. The interior and exterior is so cute and welcoming. The service is out of this world. Our waiter was so attentive and apologetic of a wait for food that wasn't even long. We wanted to order the whole menu-- and we came pretty close! We ordered a few drinks, and the best one by far was the pom liquor one served in a copper mug. We started with the caprese salad, spinach artichoke dip, and garlic bread. We were very hungry and devoured these appetizers, and boy they were delicious! We were pretty full after all the apps, and we joked about stopping after those! However, we ordered the lasagna, margherita pizza, tortellini pasta, and pork belly mac and cheese. We all absolutely loved our meals. The pork belly mac and cheese was incredible at the restaurant, and it was even better reheated the next day! The pork was so tender it was unbelievable! The pizza crust was one of the best I've ever tasted. You could even see them putting the pizza in the wood fired oven, which was so cool! The lasagna was hearty and delicious, as was the tortellini. The crust was the best I've ever had, the sausage just the right amount of spicy, and the salad tastes like it was right from someone's garden. My husband and I stopped by at 5 on Sunday. Their hours on the door say 4-8 Sunday. There was no one there, but the door was open. Absolutely sensational! I walked in and smelled the roasted tomatoes and fresh bread in the kitchen! I ordered the calamari to start and the pizza belladonna and added their house made sausage. The ingredients were super fresh and the sausage was very good as well. Kellie was our server and she was exceptional, friendly, and recommended the house sausage when I asked if I could add a meat. I would recommend Popolo, highly! We really enjoyed our meal at Popolo's - it's a great find in Mineral Point! The bartender let us in on a little secret about their pomegranate mule (not on the menu) but it was delicious, without being too sweet! The flatbread + warm cheese/marinara appetizer was my favorite. We also tried the caprese salad, calamari, pork belly risotto and a build your own pizza. The pork belly risotto was great, just as rich as I assumed it would be. All the food was excellent, I only marked it down one star due to the service. We called to make a reservation for 5 and they said we could only make reservations for 6, but that we should have no problems. Nice ambience, and I've eaten there several times, but lately the food has been disappointing. It was much better a couple of years ago, pre-pandemic. The pizza is still OK, but this past week I ordered a lamb ragu on pasta, and it was utterly bland, tasteless. I won't be going back soon, and if I do I will stick with pizza. Another downer - they don't serve any wine by the glass. The servers are quick to point out that you can take the rest of a bottle home that you don't finish (and they do have some modestly priced bottles - kudos for that). But be careful, if you're driving, this will violate Wisconsin's open container law, unless the bottle is placed somewhere that is inaccessible from the driver's seat. read more

We hadn't been here for over a year and realized Friday night what we had been missing! My wife and our oldest daughter stopped in and had an amazing meal. The pizzas were hot and crispy and the shrimp Alfredo had just the right amount of everything. Not too much Alfredo sauce, not too much garlic, it was perfect. The bar had a nice selection of tap beers. We showed up a little before 6:00. There was a 40 minute wait and the bar was full. My guy had the chicken cacciatore which I had a bite of. It was super tender and tasty. The matcha green tea cake with mascarpone cream cheese frosting was flavorful but not super heavy. I've been to this restaurant twice to celebrate my father's birthday. There's a reason we go back. Popolo is a quaint restaurant that offers delicious food and a large selection of drinks. On our most recent visit they had a specials menu of drinks and food. I ordered the scallops and was not disappointed, they were absolutely delicious! Though, while the prices are fairly reasonable, I was pretty disappointed that my meal only came with two scallops. The place is decently sized, but at times it does feel like the tables are a little too close together. We scooted our table forward a bit so the staff could actually pass through with having to force their way between chairs. This place is also accommodating of children, though they don't have a children's menu. But, my niece was pleased with the spaghetti and meatballs! read more
