I'll admit I was skeptical walking in. The restaurant is attached to a hotel that isn't the nicest, and the entrance had a strong hotel‑cleaning‑supply smell that made me apprehensive. But from the moment we sat down, it was all uphill from there. The Italian wedding soup was excellent, rich, flavorful, and clearly homemade. The pizza was decent, nothing extraordinary but solid with plenty of cheese. We also ordered the lasagna, the spicy chicken dish, and spaghetti and meatballs. The standout was the spicy chicken: the "spicy red sauce" turned out to be more of a creamy, spicy blend, and it was fantastic. Everything came out piping hot, which I really appreciated. They also bring out warm rolls, and those were surprisingly tasty, soft, fresh, and perfect for dipping. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Oh my goodness--I truly felt like I was back in Italy while dining at Mike's! My husband and I first met Mike when he was part owner of Mama Mia's on the square in Baraboo, and now he's opened his own restaurant as the sole owner. Mike immigrated here legally from Albania and became a U.S. citizen, and you can taste the pride he puts into every dish--everything is homemade, even the pasta. I had the spicy chicken arrabbiata with Alfredo sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The homemade garlic knots were mouthwatering, and the salads were fresh and crisp. My friend ordered the shrimp pasta and loved it. I also brought home two pizzas for my family, and they said it was the best pizza they've ever had! The service was excellent, and the restaurant itself is spacious with a great bar area. From now on, Mike's Italian Restaurant will be our go-to spot whenever we're in Baraboo. My wife and I recently visited this wonderful family-owned Italian restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked through the door, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, who made us feel like family. Our server, his daughter, told us that her father prepares everything from scratch every single day--and you can absolutely taste the difference. Every course was exceptional. From the appetizers to the homemade soup, fresh salad, and incredible entrées, everything was prepared with care and full of authentic flavor. Then came dessert. Even though we were completely stuffed and couldn't imagine eating another bite, we're so glad we ordered the cannoli. It was absolutely outstanding--the perfect way to end an incredible meal. Crispy, fresh, perfectly filled, and easily one of the best cannolis we've ever had. Without a doubt, this is some of the best Italian food we've had outside of New York. It's rare to find a place where the food, hospitality, and family atmosphere all come together so perfectly. What a pleasant surprise. I read all the reviews and came in with expectations. Mike's was much bigger than I imagined and had a nice decor. We sat in a booth in the bar area and had Cody as our server. Started with the Antipasto salad. We split it which was a good idea. Lettuce was fresh and topped with some olives. Pin wheels of cold cuts and cheese were added as a garnish. We thought that was an interesting approach. We continued with a cup of Italian Wedding soup and bread donuts dripping with garlic butter. Wifey had spaghetti and meatballs. Harty serving with about 5 nicely cooked meatballs. Sauce, gravy, was on the sweet side. Meatballs were tender and appeared to be homemade. I went with linguine dressed with olive oil and garlic, and added shrimp and mushrooms for additional flavor. Shrimp were a good size and cooked perfectly. Serving size was very good, but garlic and oil were a little light for my taste. Will definitely order this dish again. It did not disappoint. Mike actually greeted us as we departed. Had an early dinner after some nice antique thrift shopping in downtown Baraboo. We sat at a nice booth and on the walk there, you can take in the generous space. There is a large dining area, bar, and a nice open kitchen to view the lovely brick pizza oven. Our service was attentative, polite, and overall great. They were flexible and checked on us without being intrusive. Food-wise, their presentation is lovely. My wife really had the shrimp florentine and we also shared a medium (16") margheritta pizza with sausage added on. My wife complimented the quality of the shrimp, great texture, fresh flavor, nice preparation. The quantity seemed a little small for the pasta itself. The pasta does include a crisp and fresh side salad and a warm garlic glazed roll. Our pizza was OK. It looks impressive and you quantity-wise was good. The sausage and mozzarella was tasty, but the sauce was very sweet. I get that sugar is added to cut acidic flavor, but the sweet flavor was very pronounced. The crust was also a bit heavier than expected. It does hold the generous ingredients well, but it gets dry and tough at the end, not chewy or doughy. We were so full. read more

I will add this up to "it was my wife's pick!!" One of our repairmen recommended this . . . hopefully, he loved the fish-fry or something, because the fare, the Italian, and the cocktails were all lacking. It was pretty busy, with locals, but I'm not sure why. My first guess should have been that it was connected to a hotel ... and not a five-star hotel. From there, it went down hill. Wow, an absolute gem! Far and away the best meal we had on our family trip to the Dells. Generous portions, delicious recipes, and fresh desserts. Chicken and veal parm entrees were cooked to perfection. Linguine as well as spaghetti and meatballs were also enjoyed by others at our table. Each meal came with homemade bread and a generous side salad or cup of soup. Kids meals were generous portions as well. Complimentary ice cream sandwiches for kids. The tiramisu was rich and creamy, and my Italian dad couldn't stop raving about the "outstanding" cannolis (and believe me when I tell you that he's eaten his share of cannolis in his life!). We couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate my parents' 42nd anniversary! We are from the Chicago suburbs, so we were pleasantly surprised to find this place. I am staying at the attached hotel while Mike's is hosting a party. I am on the 3rd floor on the opposite side of the building and the music is thumping so loudly it is rattling my windows. It started at 4pm and is still going at 10pm. Zero consideration for the hotel guests. read more

It's a relatively large intimately-lit lovely restaurant with a smaller bar in the center, as well as a very bright room available for rental. Booths & tables available for seating. Prices reflect a nicer sit-down restaurant & had a large menu with plenty of options, but the pizza is my definite recommendation. The wait & bar staff have been really fun to talk to and know what they're doing. I've never seen a restaurant be so on top of splitting bills for a large group no-questions-asked. My sister had rented the bright, airy party room multiple times & it has been a great experience. There's a pretty fireplace & a buffet along the wall to line up all of your pizzas/order & the staff is pretty attentive despite being in a closed off area. She was able to bring & hang her own decorations without any issues. It's attached to one of the larger hotels so there is great parking. We live in Baraboo & while we're not very frequent to this location as a date night, it definitely worth popping in to try it out with family & friends! We'll definitely return for larger groups. We walked in on a busy Friday night. Got seated at the last open table. Servers were kind and helpful. Ordered the baked ravioli for appetizer. The sauce was fantastic! I ordered the steak and substituted broccoli instead of noodles. Flavor was excellent and cooked perfectly, medium. My husband had a pepperoni and pineapple calzone. Found this gem thanks to Yelp! Mike greeted us from the kitchen with fist bumps ;) The service was decent and the food was delicious! The pizzas are HUGE! Several commented on the red sauce being sweet, which I would not agree with it. There was something different that I haven't figured out yet, but not in a bad way. The crust was pan style, not thick, perfect IMO. The sausage pieces were huge and the star of the pizza. I opted for the tomato florentine soup which was stellar, with a lot of flavor depth, as if it had been cooking all day! I also ordered the Greek pasta which was a thick spicy lemon & feta sauce. I was surprised when the wait staff asked mild, medium or hot. When in doubt, go medium. It was just a hint of hot, not much, but I think hot would be odd with lemon, feta and shrimp. I was excited about the dinner roll based on pictures. Sadly I was disappointed... it was very fresh and had good flavor but it was very dense, like pizza crust that didn't rise. We wanted to try their cod but it was not available on Sunday, however Mike(The Chef) recommended salmon with lemon sauce. It was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious.
