This spot definitely has a pub atmosphere. Big bar, good beer, plenty of liquor choices & tvs mounted for watching the game. I chose a house salad with crispy chicken & bacon. it was excellent! Crispy chicken means a breast coated with beer batter that was fried to crunchy, juicy perfection. Crisp bacon & lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, cheese & homemade Ranch dressing made this a tasty meal. We also had the artichoke dip which made a perfect lunch for us. The kids enjoyed their food. The staff was helpful and gave advice on how to best consume our giant drink. We were in the middle of nowhere, and saw a billboard for Ope Haus, stating that it was about 15 miles away. Looking at our GPS and then out the windows of my truck, 15 miles felt better than our options, and boy oh boy I'm glad we made the drive. The cheese curds alone were perfection, but it was my Mushroom Cakes, which were reminiscent of a crab cake but... I am assuming vegan? Not really sure what all was in them, but there is zero doubt if I lived within an hour of Ope Haus, I would order them *all the time* and bring every vegetarian I know along with me. Super super super good. Nothing about the atmosphere is particularly noteworthy, but it is worth noting that Ope Haus is in a town with VERY little else, so a little planning is required. Cliff's Notes: After we ate my husband said: why did you want to come here?? Typical pub, except the seating was not very comfortable. Our waitress was the best part about the place. The women's bathroom had a pool of some unknown liquid on the floor in the larger bathroom stall and I would hate to think of someone with a walker or wheelchair having to slosh through that. Ugh. As for the food, it was pretty bland. The cheese curds were either fried too long or the oil in the fryer was too hot, as a lot of them were hollow and didn't contain cheese. My mushroom scansin swiss burger was not cooked to medium as I requested (it was overcooked) and didn't have a grilled flavor. Hubby said his Nashville "hot" crispy chicken biscuit made him feel sorry for the people of Nashville if that's all the heat they could take. I paid extra for a brandy old fashioned with Korbel and seriously just tasted soda and simple syrup. This place was definitely not worth going out of the way for. read more

This restaurant/pub is an excellent small town gem for Barneveld. We stopped on the way home for lunch on a Thursday. This place is huge! The bar itself is massive as well. The wait staff was quick and considerate. We started with sharing an order of fried cheese curds. They were excellent...lightly breaded and totally gooey. We found them a bit on the greasy side. Maybe the chef could gently drain them before plating? Our burgers and mushroom sandwich were all good values, as they included one side choice. The mushroom sandwich needed more seasoning or a special sauce, but it was cooked perfectly. The fries were awesome--crispy, hot, and not heavily salted. The burgers were nicely cooked but could have used more seasoning. The burger buns were especially fresh and soft. Nice place to stop by for lunch! read more

Nice atmosphere and about a 20 minute wait to sit. Started with the cheese curds- WOW! The lightest batter ever! Delicious, an absolute winner. It's Friday night, so of course we had the fish fry. They offer 2 or 3 pcs, 2 is really enough as they're large pieces. Last time I had their walleye, this time I had the deep fried cod. Also a light batter, but a little heavier than the curds. This is a place. The people were nice. The room was a long, concrete sort of room, and I seriously don't recall what I ordered. Possibly some cheese curds? I do know that my son had a pizza. He said that apart from the crust, which seemed premade, the nondescript tomato sauce, and the Pick and Save shredded mozzarella cheese like product, it was a pizza. Faint praise. I read they were really keen on local sourcing of products. Maybe they could expand that definition of local a bit farther and upgrade the quality. Wait. Now I remember. I did have cheese curds. Drove 1.5 hours for lunch. I've followed this place on social media for quite sometime and just had to try it. Well worth it! Alex was a great bartender and was very welcoming. Clean place, nice decor and everyone was kind and smiling. Bloody. AWESOME! Food. DELISH! Such plentiful portions we both brought some "home for later". This was a stop on our scour the rural Wisconsin land scape meandering to our dinner destination which was a cool way to do it and the same for our way home. This place is spacious and long with a long bar and hi tables along the window. Plenty of TVs makes it feel like a sports bar. The ceiling is a mix match doors for a cool look. Service was great with the friendly kid helping us. We didn't try any food and just a drink so I can't comment on the food. I tried my first white claw which was disappointing so I had the bartender throw a shot of raspberry vodka in it as a pick me up. Overall it was a nice place to have a drink. read more

First time at this Barneveld spot and I thought it was great. Our server was excellent, providing recommendations, friendly and authentic. The food is heavy, cheesy, pub fare. So just know before you go that it won't be a healthy meal. The old fashions are good with all the options. The bacon bloody was tasty with house Bloody Mary mix. Whether you're looking for lunch, supper, or a drink, Ope Haus has you covered. I've been twice this year - once for supper and once for an early lunch. Both visits were delicious! They have some of the best chicken biscuits and gravy out there, which feature homemade biscuits. Something they've started to become known for is their Bloody Mary pitcher (pictured). Really glad I finally got to try Ope Haus Pub tonight! It is a great addition to Barneveld and the area. My parents and I split cheese curds (not pictured). They were tasty and fresh. I got the goat grilled cheese which had tasty bacon and apples inside. It was a treat and a fun option. Fries were fresh - not super funky flavor-wise but great texture! Especially dipped in bleu cheese. My dad ate up his tacos while my mom enjoyed part of the pizza and will have leftovers :) cold beers washed everything down. This place was a total surprise and a total delight! It's in Barneveld, right along the Military Ridge bike trail that runs from Verona to Dodgeville. The food was absolutely perfect! I ordered the Saturday night Prime with mashed potatoes and green beans. Pretty basic - but way beyond basic for flavor and quality! Oddly, the stand out for me was the mashed potatoes - I could have eaten a bucket, and I'd come back just for those. The green beans were perfect - not overdone, not underdone and seasoned to perfection. The prime rib was superb. This was a good quality cut of meat and a generous portion (I ordered the Queen Cut - and honestly thought they goofed and brought they accidentally brought the King Cut... The service was fabulous. Staff looked you in the eye when you asked questions and placed your order (so many young people just don't do that any more). They were quick, but not too quick (food that comes out too quickly is not a good sign... just sayin'). The only things I think would have made it better are: 1. No bread. I would have liked a good roll. That seemed to be missing. 2. The place is large and open with tables spread out and felt a little like it was a repurposed building (which it is since there was a video drop box still on the front...). Other than those two minor elements - I will be going back time and again. This place is a real gem! read more

Ope is a great spot for pub food! We tried their fish fry, which was crispy and fresh, some of the best fish fry we've had. But the real attraction is the Uff--Da Bloody, a massive 60 oz Bloody Mary with with 2 sliders, fried cheese curds, chicken wings, olives, sausage, and more. It is a bit pricy, but is plenty of food and booze for two people (though I recommend three people or more...it is a whole pitcher of Bloody Mary!). I'm not usually a Blood Mary fan, but this one was very good, very well seasoned and with a low heat, just enough spice to give it a bit of a kick but not so much as to blow your socks off. It tasted very fresh. Also really enjoyed the sliders, which means their burgers are probably top-notch. Barneveld may be a bit out of the way, but it's worth the drive for some superlative pub food! read more

This is my second visit to Ope Haus and it was as disappointing as the first time. The salmon tacos sounded like a great option and looked great. I called ahead and they said twenty minutes. I waited twenty five just to be safe and headed there to have to wait another 15. The food was hot, great. It was also $19. The taste was good except the amount of grease that came from the tacos, it was bad. Not even Taco Bell is that bad. I'd expect that if it was fried salmon but blackened salmon shouldn't be this greasy. Go if you want a Wisconsin "themed" bar, but don't expect much. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants! It's on my way to/from my family's seasonal campsite. I had the Ope Burger and oh my goodness, it was delicious! Even if you don't like a lot on your burgers, (like me), it's still delicious. Service was excellent, food came quick but not fast-food quick, and my family was seated right away. This place is coming along nicely. Cold drinks, friendly service, and good food (seems they've sorted through the opening week bumps). Recommend trying the horseshoe! It's a central IL 'delicacy', with the Chicken dipped in Buffalo sauce & ranch on the side for dipping. Dinner was good. There were only 2 waitresses the night we went and they hustled to give great service. They had help from all of the boys working as well.
