Honestly I did not see this place from the street when I had been passing by for so many years now. Google showed me where it was and I was surprised I had never seen it. It's in the corner of the shopping center where the Paul Mitchell school is. So we were greeted when we walked in. Their workers are friendly. The menu is very expansive and kind of hard to read so I had to look at the one posted at the counter. There are many many options. We got the brown sugar caramel brûlée boba. Tried this place with an acquaintance as it was one of their favorite tea places and they wanted me to try it! It wasn't busy so that was a plus. They have a great array of drinks all very different and unique can be a bit overwhelming for a first timer like me. I got their spring love blended which was an additional 1.25 charge. Their prices are on the higher side compared to the quality of what they offer ingredient wise. My drink was too sweet so I didn't end up finishing it and my friend also was dissatisfied with the taro tornado (I think it's called) she usually gets and got overcharged for her drink that didn't even have all the correct toppings on it. I recently stopped by to visit because I was already in the plaza. I had been here once before years ago and never came back for a reason I cannot remember. The store is spacious and their menu is pretty large. Service was quick and friendly. I tried the pomegranate watermelon green tea that they were advertising on a little chalk board near the register. The drink is sweet and tart at the same time, very refreshing on a hot summer day. I asked for 50% sugar and it was still very sweet, so ask for even less if you don't have a sweet tooth. The boba has the perfect chewy texture I want in my boba. Downside is that all the drinks are pretty pricey before you even add any toppings. I still cannot remember the reason I didn't come back after my first visit, but it will be in the rotation now! read more

Cute spot tucked in a corner of a strip mall with lots of bridal stores and an Indian market, lots of seating to hang out, a photo op spot, and friendly staff. Popped in here as it was close to where we were running errands today, I was drawn to this spot because of other users pics and knew what I wanted before we got there- the ube crème brûlée. My honey got the coconut drink, it's typically what he likes to stick to. My drink was very pretty and super sweet on first sip, but after stirring it and making it less pretty, it was good and not as sweet as the initial sip. I've been here a few times with my sister and cousins. They have some of the best boba drinks in town in my opinion, so you can't go wrong with most of their options. The only negatives are that the service is not always the absolute best. Half of the times I went the person taking our orders didn't seem too happy, it's hard for them to hear you so you have to speak up, and if you don't say the specific name then they could get confused on what you are trying to order. Lastly, they are usually pretty busy so it is a bit of a wait. BUT nonetheless it's not a big deal if you don't let it be and the boba is definitely worth it. Came here on 02/09/22 during my lunch break and I was very surprised that it was not very busy during the lunch hour. There was a few customers leaving when I was entering and a gal waiting inside just chilling. They have several menus and I was impressed of how much Taro options they had on the menu. Upon entering they have a unique decor that is nice inside and very spacious inside as well. They have so many drink options along with the toppings. I am very picky with my toppings and just stick to the safe route of Boba only as I am not a fan of the Jelly toppings (my personal preference). Anywho, I was not really greeted upon entering but I was acknowledged eventually when I walked up to the counter. There was a man and a lady working. I am in a Match Rose kick and I didn't see any fusions listed but only separately so I requested Match and Rose together which they said they would check and see if they can merge the two together and GUESS WHAT they were able to! YAY! I inquired if it is dairy free and they said yes. My drink came up with no problem and I left happily. In my car - the first sip is always the best sip and it didn't disappoint at all. The drink was very light in my opinion for a Matcha Drink which personally lacked a lot of flavor but it was "alright"... it wasn't terrible and it wasn't the worse. I definitely had better in a heart beat but I shall say they did do their best to make my request so I can't fault them for that as it is not an item on the menu. I personally would not get that fusion again here. I definitely would like to try out their other drinks for sure and see what it is like. The boba was good and it was a nice refreshing light lunch I was looking for. Overall, I was satisfied with my drink for the most part. Stopped in on 3-25-22 after stopping by Paul Mitchell in the same complex. I didn't know it was located here, just happened to see the sign and decided to get drinks on that hot day. I got the Ooh La La, Hokkaido oolong milk tea with boba and grass jelly. I also got a Strawberry Fantasy for my daughter. I wish the milk tea tasted more of the oolong and I realized I don't really care for chewy boba - I looove popping boba, have to remember that. There was lots of boba and grass jelly - I was pretty full afterwards! The strawberry drink was also good. There are a good amount of tables for sitting inside, no outside tables. The shop is cute with an IG ready wall and lots of props around as well as cute decor that looks like it's been moved to corners to accommodate social distancing. Service was friendly and prompt. Always a great time. Two years later and Popping Ave. is still poppin' Black Tiger drink is pictured here. There are two options for the milk - whole or milk tea. It comes with the boba, coffee jelly, flan, and cream. Its $6.50 with whole and $6.85 with their house milk tea - not including tax. The place is still cute as always. There are small four tables. Each one with a two seater couch and one chair on the other side. There is wide picnic table with one long bench on one side. There's plenty of room for people to hang out. There are SO many options for drinks. They have more than ten drink specials with each one having its unique taste and toppings. These are $5.99 and up. The most expensive being $6.75, any other toppings on top of them ones it already has is an extra .50 or .75. They also have fruity tea drinks for $5.99 and regular milk teas for $4.99. So price wise - they're not bad. The employees are wonderful! The girl who helped me was kind to explain the difference between their whole milk and the house milk tea. I noticed that each of them say "have a good day" after to the customer when they notice them going after their drink they just set out for them. I don't know about you, but I appreciate things like that. I came to journal here. I was originally going to go a Starbucks, but it can get cramped, busy, and the seating isn't super comfortable there, and it's always cold (that's not their fault, Starbucks employees are constantly moving and working with hot drinks so they need to stay cool). I came here two years ago remembering how chill it was to be just be with friends and how it wasn't super busy but not super isolated from the rest of Fresno. There aren't any major stores in this particular lot, so it makes sense that it doesn't have a long line people inside. That does not mean it's not worthy, it just means that Popping Ave is the kind of place that if you know where it is, then you've found an almost-undiscovered jewel. During my latest visit into Fresno, I've been let down by my past favorite boba shops. Until I found now my newest favorite in Popping Ave Boba Tea! Located in an unassuming dumpy strip mall, I relied on fellow Yelpers high ratings and reviews to lead me here. Getting past this declining strip mall appearance, the interior is decently decorated with your typical Instagram worthy backdrops. The menu offers plenty in traditional milk teas and other unique offerings in their fruit teas, salted cheese creamas, and food items. We ordered my usual roasted oolong milk tea with boba and under the suggestion of the cashier we also got the Spring Love Fruit Tea which is a blend of mango and pineapple with rainbow jelly and mango bits. The Oolong was perfect in deep tea flavor, the boba was perfectly cooked tender in the center, and the fruit tea was refreshing and lightly sweet (asked for 0% sugar and 25% ice). Popping Ave. Milk Tea was the first to catch my eye. It has received plenty of positive reviews. I have noticed it is one of a handful of popular boba cafes all within a 1.5 radius (going east, west and north) of Cal State Fresno. Smart! I like the Black Tiger milk tea, $5.75 (reg) - black sugar, boba, salted cheese crema, flan, coffee jelly. It is #2 on the top 19 most popular drink specials. Apparently, their #1 is so popular, it is covered up with a SOLD OUT sign so new patrons like me do not even know what the drink is. I like the interesting concept of combining flan and crema with popular Vietnamese teas, fruit bits and flavors, toppings and different boba choices. Moreover, there are 12 choices of fruity teas for $5.25 each. Their entire menu includes milk teas, hot milk tea, mocha, latte, hot and iced black and green teas, smoothies and Vietnamese coffees. Toppings include various flavors of boba and jellies, whipped cream, egg pudding, chia seeds, cheese crema, flan, coconut bits, Oreo pieces, taro pieces. Their daily drink specials like the Purple Rain is more gimmicky with a cool name but not among my favorites. There are an interesting mixture of ingredients to many of the drinks. When it doubt or do not know what to order, I always say go with a fruit tea or smoothie. Not bad but I have already found other spots I find more preferable. read more

An Okinawa milk tea (not the special one) Its my favorite milk tea and today it tasted nothing like it, it tasted like there was something weird in it... We asked if they did anything different and said no, then went on to basically tell us that we were just crazy and we were in the wrong. They refused to remake it. When we got to the car, we recognized the odd taste, it was coconut. They put coconut in this drink. My mom actually has a mild allergy to coconut and it actually made her sick. EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIMED THEY DID NOTHING WRONG. This place always has terrible customer service. There's signs saying that if your drink is not what you asked for, it's your fault for not reviewing your order before you pay. This place has all the trappings of the modern day teashop - a nice instagrammable vibe inside with nice decorations and backgrounds, a comfortable seating area (unavailable during covid-era), and trendy Korean hip hop playing in the background. Unfortunately, the tea was not very good. I'd give the tea a 1/5, definitely on the sweeter side even at 25% sugar but it just tasted like day old tea with a somewhat strange aftertaste. The boba was decent 4/5 semi-sweet and good texture, but the combination just did not taste very good. Similar comments on the House tea. Perhaps they were just not using freshly brewed tea on this day but unlikely to try their other options. Kinda disappointing. But no one was inside when I went on Sunday so the worker may have been rocking out. The service was fine. It seemed to be only one worker and she was doing it all. I prefer their teas as they are refreshing and light in comparison to their slushes- but both are great for the warmer weather. Next time I have to try their appetizers! Their prices are relatively cheaper than other boba shops I have been to in Fresno, so that's always a plus! They have happy hours from 4-7 pm on Monday-Thursday for either a 15% or 10% discount (I forgot the exact number).
