I am crushed. I never go to salons ( I can ruin my hair at home for free) but it's my birthday next week and I wanted to do something special and look good. Caitlyn was very nice and lovely to talk to but she destroyed my hair. I have included the before, reference and after pictures. I could tell she knew she had messed up and just kept cutting. After every round of thinning and snipping and thinning and snipping, she kept saying, "now that looks a little better" or "I'm starting to like that more." The bottom layer of my hair is thinned so much it is practically gone, taking away so many options for a redemption haircut that could look anything similar to the reference. She obliterated my bangs, they are so small and the same length as the top layer of hair she cut. Somehow even though I spent the whole appointment telling her "please don't make my hair round", "I hate round hair." "My hair does not look good rounded" it somehow got rounder and rounder with every cut. When she was done she said it "looks like that because it's not styled" and proceeded to hot iron it and try to give it style. It was still awful and she knew that. She tried to put gel in it and it did not help at all. Then she said the issue was that she "blow dried it with a round brush" and that we should wash it again and give it a more natural dry so it "looks more like the picture" the after photos I have attached are with that natural dry. At the very end as I was leaving she told me to wait and that she "missed a part" and went in for at least 5 more snips at the back before I said I had to go. I left crying and went to another salon to see what could be done to salvage it and they audibly gasped when they saw how uneven the hair was and recommended I reach out to the owner because this was "not okay." When I emailed poppy with these pictures asking for a refund, they said the best they could do was Caitlyn offer me a "complementary second cut to fix up some areas I'm unhappy with" and claimed my hair couldn't possibly look like the reference and it would if it was styled. She tried to style it and it only made it worse. She will not be touching my hair again. I have had bobs like that before, I KNOW my hair is not unable to look like that and that this reference picture was very obtainable for my hair type and length. 65$ more poor and I look like a coconut. My birthday is in 5 days and I cannot look in the mirror. UPDATE: When I spoke with the owner of poppy, Rach, she was incredibly accommodating and understanding. She got me in ASAP for an appointment with her and fixed my hair up. I loved that she stopped every step of the way to talk about what I thought. I was also given a conditioning treatment in addition to her fixing my hair up. She worked hard to make everything right. Rach was fantastic and I am MUCH more into my hair now! read more

I warned them I had a lot of hair, but that wasn't heeded. Appointment was at 12:15, wasn't in a chair until 1:30. I wanted a wolf cut with frosted tips, what I got was so atrocious my new stylist has recommended small claims court. I paid $250 + $50 tip because I was almost made to be late to work after telling her repeatedly that I needed to be done by 4 that I didn't get to check it, AND she told me to come back so she could "fix" it for free. After checking it at work, I cried for 20 min. It is that bad. So I told the stylist I wanted someone else to fix it. Apparently, being honest with your bad experiences will cause the owner to crash-out, send you patronizing emails about "expectations" and "disrespectful" language when no one was called the names I had rattling around in my head, in addition to telling you, "I hope you have the day you deserve" and banning you from the store. Oh, and the stylists will spend the entire time complaining about their personal problems to you like you're there to "fix" them when the reality is you're trapped in a chair while they lament how hard their lives are and out of politeness, you'll just smile and nod. I started with hair color and cuts here (which were great!) but lately it's been all about the monthly featured facials with Casey. She's super nice and the room is comfortable. I love that the table/bed is heated! Each appointment basically feels like a one hour face massage with products and steam. I might have even fallen asleep once or twice. She also does waxing so I've also gotten my eyebrows waxed by her and once came in for a face wax, just because I've been wanting to see how that's would feel. Those appointments were also lovely but obviously not quite as relaxing as a facial. Scheduling is easy through the Schedulicity app. For hair I sometimes still go the "wait list" route, though, because I tend to enjoy trying to meet everyone instead of always going to the same person. It's all positive, though - sometimes my schedule just aligns with a different person. I also love learning about and trying different businesses, and it's hard to do that if I always go to the same place/person. One of the Poppy stylists recently took over as the new owner of the salon so I'm excited to see what's coming next. They've already mentioned that new nail and lash services are coming soon. read more

Hair cut seemed like it was a bit rushed, started late and as soon as the next customer came in for the person who was cutting my hair they seemed to speed up a little bit. I came in after I had booked a curly cut online which claimed that it would also come with like a personalized product referral, but I did not get any of that. Yes, I did come in with my hair brushed out, but that should not change how my hair is cut since she did cut it wet. When I said my hair is normally curlier than this I was responded with yea I can see a slight wave, and proceeded to not cut my hair in a curly way. Why offer a curly hair cut if you don't know how to deal with curly hair, probably should change the list of services you offer. Afterwards I barely got any product out in my hair since I didn't want to put heat on it and I ended up going home and having to redo it. My hair looks so choppy and the sides seem uneven. My first time visiting this salon. I was scheduled for a partial highlight and hair cut. Unfortunately I had a bad experience. My hair is darker than when I went in. I can't see any blonde highlights and I have streaks of purple hues in my hair. I was told it was from the toner and it would eventually wash out. I've never had my hair turn out like this before! For $165 I expected a lot more. Definitely will not be returning....I will have to go to someone else to fix it. :( read more

I am beating myself up for not doing my research before booking my appointment. I have been growing my hair out for years and decided to get it cut to get rid of split ends and uneven color. I showed the hairstylist a picture of what I wanted and it was like she interpreted it as me wanting to look like a midwestern mom of six, circa 2001. All I need is a minivan with several "my child was student of the month" stickers to complete the look. My daughter, a natural beauty, went to this place today and got savaged. She has been in tears for hours now. Instead of a short trim, they loped off almost five inches. And her lovely eyebrows, which she she asked to be "cleaned up", now look like they were pulled from Liza Minelli's slack yet over anxious face during a binge at Studio 54. When I told Shanna this, she talked me through the differences and what to expect. Shanna was super friendly and checked in with me throughout the waxing process to make sure I was doing okay. Now, I only speak on behalf of my experience with Heidi, not the salon as a whole, as I've heard positive remarks about Nicole/Nikki. This was sadly one of the worst foils of my life and maybe it was a one-off scenario. But, to be safe for those to come, I will forewarn you about my experience. I asked for a full foil just to make my hair more blonde, nothing major. I didn't want to it to be white blonde nor yellow/orange and I showed her pictures on my phone for examples. Well, my hair turned out like a cheetah in color and tiger in stripes! The underneath was foiled in large chunks and you could tell exactly where she lay each foil because it significantly differs from the next. My roots were untouched and it looked like my hair had already grown out for six weeks. This was clearly not the look I was going for so I went back in the next day to fix it. The way she 'fixed' it was by re-foiling it, thus over processed it and turning some strands silver. It was still not the look I was going for, nor much better. While I am happy to have been offered the chance to fix it, I believe any stylist would be able to tell they did a horrible job and should offer to refund their client. Especially given the fact that this salon is in Pullman where word of mouth is everything with the rotating student population. read more

Be careful about what you say and, make sure you pick the right stylist for you.Look at your hair stylists portfolio or facebook to see if they do good work and,what they specialize in.I did this by asking people about salons and by meeting people at my workplace.I am glad I was referred to Jenna at Poppy my hair was so orange,dry ,layered weirdly and multi colored. I wanted to hide I was a hot mess as I put it.Jenna is a really good stylist she did really well with shaping my hair cut perfectly and ,mixing the right colors.I felt as though this was the best salon I have gone to in the area .I told her I wanted a dirty blonde shade and she added some nice frontal highlights to my hair. Being a person who is very particular about how I want my hair done, I was astonished by how well she did, better than I ever have gotten my hair done before. The things like that in which she did made me realize that she genuinely wanted to achieve what I was wanting for my hair. In addition to this, Poppy has a "processing" room for those who are waiting for their hair to develop the correct color where you can make a coffee, paint your nails, and or relax. I have gone to Poppy several times now, and I love it! The first time was with Heidi during the summer of 2014. I wanted a color that wasn't too far off from my natural, but have it be really light brown in the sunlight. Heidi was able to get me exactly what I wanted and I loved that it was subtle but bright in the sunlight. The 2nd time I went in, I wanted to go all out and do something I always wanted to but never did before: color my hair purple. It was my first time for such a drastic change and so I did some research before making the appointment and several girls recommended Whitney to me. I'm so glad I chose Whitney, she did an AMAZING job on my hair (I ended up getting purple on the top third, then fade into blue, and finally into green). She was so excited and had great energy, you can tell that she is passionate about what she does. I just recently went to see Whitney again and she was very devoted to ensuring I got the color I wanted (dark blue on top, fading to a lighter blue at the edges). She even stayed late when she realized that she needed more time to achieve the color I wanted. Once again I'm blown away by the amazing job she did. I have also gotten a brazilian wax by Shanna. At Poppy they offer a service called sugaring, which I never heard of before, and I don't know what to say about it other than it was interesting and wasn't so bad, at least as far as a brazilian wax goes. She did a great job and I would probably continue seeing her for future brazilians. Overall I definitely recommend Poppy, at least for the types of services that I've gotten there. read more

I went here to get tape in extensions applied. I had originally bought my own hair for tape in extensions and I tried doing them on my own. it didn't seem very sturdy so I decided I should just spend the money to get my hair i already put in professionally removed and then put back in my hair. It was really important to me that I got these extensions removed professionally so I wouldn't be pulling out my own hair at home. However, when I showed up for my appointment, my stylist began ripping apart my tape ins and ripping them out of my hair. no product, no soaking, NOTHING! I even asked her if there was a certain remover she could use, but she said it's too messy. I sat there for 20 minutes on the verge of tears. she ripped out so much of my hair and even mentioned a slight bald spot she gave me. On top of that, after removing them she didn't clean my hair, and hardly brushed it before starting to reapply. On top of all this I got charged $50 for the removal of my tape ins - which I could've done on my own at home if I knew she was just going to rip them out. I had also brought my own tape, just in case she needed a few extras. Though she ended up using all my own tape that I had ordered and had me sit there holding the hair and handing the hair to her while she retapped them. This was the least enjoyable experience I have ever had at any salon. She put them in my hair and sent me on my way charging me $180. I walked out of the salon feeling gross because she never washed my hair and I hadn't washed it prior thinking she was going to. I walked out on the verge of tears over how much money I spent. Luckily I'm moving away from Pullman, so I can find someone more professional to do my hair. read more

I got my hair cut by Heidi (I think there are 2 stylists named Heidi - if I remember correctly mine was Heidi Anderson). It was horrific! I have cut my own hair with infinitely better results. I uploaded a picture of the haircut above. NOTHING was even. The "layers" she put in my hair didn't even go halfway around my head and there seems to have been no attempt to blend them in. Just a blunt cut. She was spastic and spoke scary-fast the entire time and pulled my hair a couple of times with simply a 'woops' and no apology. Unfortunately I had to leave for work immediately after the haircut and didn't have time to hash it out with her, but I returned the next morning to get a full refund (which she had enough decency to do, although I suspect she just didn't want the humiliation in front of the client currently in her chair). On top of the horrendous hair cut, the product she put in my hair smelled so terribly I actually had to leave work (costing me money) to go home and shower it out before returning to work. I went to Identity to have them fix it and thank goodness for Robyn. She did an amazing job fixing the hack-job that I received. She took one look at my hair and stated "This is worse than what I saw my first week of beauty school." I have heard that the other stylists at Poppy are decent, but I will never return to find out. read more

I had my hair done by Jenna, who was very nice and meticulous with my hair. I have very long, curly hair which many people do not cut or style in ways I like because my hair is unique. But Jenna did a great job, and even gave me new ideas for styling my hair at the end. She is so talented, and I will use her techniques from now on! I also got the strengthening conditioning treatment which has made a big difference in the health of my hair. I would definitely recommend this treatment, and is something I want to do regularly now! This review is only about the Poppy Salon and not the staff - as I stopped by to inquire about making an appointment but did not actually have any services. When I walked in I thought it was so strange that the place was under construction but there weren't any signs that indicated that . . . but then I found out, it's not under construction, this is what the salon is suppose to look like. What? The counters are unfinished plywood; they look terrible and can't be sanitary. The entire salon was messy and felt "dirty" - whether or not it was, it looked as though it was. Since I feel like the environment is a reflection of the quality of service, I will not be making any appointments there. read more

My experience was with Heidi. She was very nice, but ended up over processing my hair and burning my scalp. She cut some one else's hair while bleaching my roots with foil and I think left it on too long. I think some bleach seeped from the foil and got on my scalp. My head felt strange, but didn't hurt during the processing. When done, the color was much lighter than I asked and very brassy. It did not look good. That evening my scalp hurt like crazy. When I spoke with her she offered to fix my hair and denied that my scalp could be burned from processing. She was very nice and told me to put coconut oil on my scalp. It was an accident, but it took 2 months for my scalp to heal. I did not go back so she could fix it. I have never been burned before and that Was enough to make me decide to not go back. read more

I love Salon Poppy. While I was going to school at WSU I needed somewhere to get my hair done, and I stumbled upon Salon Poppy. I chose Nikki as my stylist and was so grateful I did! She made me feel like we had known each other for year and were best friends, none of the awkward first time meeting someone nonsense. She is an absolute color genius (platinum blonde is not always the easiest)! I am really sad that I'm no longer in Pullman and the trip is to far to get my hair done. We had moved to the area in April and was referred to here by a neighbor. I could not make 3 consecutive appts online because you can only do 2. I ended up going in and making them which we were still unable to get on the same day for myself, daughter and son. We had Diana and Jenna. The haircuts were fine even though they were on 3 different days. I called and left a message on a Tuesday to see if they could do an updo on the 25th of Oct. I said it was a saturday by mistake on the phone. I heard nothing back from them. I called and actually got to speak to someone on Thursday, stated when I left the message I had said the 25th was a Saturday instead of Friday. No problem, they would have the person, that does them contact me. Friday I get a text from Diana. Asking what my schedule was like for that day. I replied it was crazy. Could we do 3. She replied, she could not do 3 and suggested I go to another place. I texted back and asked what she had available. Almost a week later still no reply. I have now cancelled our appts that we had set for December. It seems like they really don't want to do business with my family. read more
